  1. Things still bother me about Gregson's disappearance. First and foremost, where the hell is the body? While I can - just - accept the storyline that he was beaten up and killed by brown-shirts, I find it hard to believe that a bunch of hooligans (and that's what many of them were in the early days) could make a body vanish on the spur of the moment. Germany was in chaos in the 20s, but there were police. Surely they could match up a body with the report of a missing Englishman. Second, he was an Englishman, a well-do-to newspaper owner. Why are the only people who care that he DISAPPEARED in Germany his lover and his lawyers? And if anyone is interested in what Germany was like in the 20s, there is a fabulous book by the late Ariana Franklin called City of Shadows (a mystery about finding the Grand Duchess Anastasia) that I cannot recommend too highly: http://smile.amazon.com/City-Shadows-Ariana-Franklin-ebook/dp/B000GCFX54/ref=sr_1_1?s=digital-text&ie=UTF8&qid=1420607627&sr=1-1&keywords=city+of+shadows ETA: I read the Anna/Bates scene that he felt they weren't "doing it" enough. In fact, I wonder if the rape has left Anna so traumatized (along with the suspicion that Bates murdered Green) that she's been unable to have sexual relations with her husband at all.
  2. This is pure speculation on my part, but perhaps her first husband's constant unfaithfulness has made her sensitive to the subject.
  3. I don't really believe it will be like Under the Gunn, I just needed something to write along with the first episode description and the superficial similarity in format came to mind. If we've seen anything at all from Face Off, it's that these contestants are always ready to help each other and know that learning to work in a team environment is essential to succeeding in the business. They also realize that rather than establishing their own dynasty they are participating in an extended on-air job interview.
  4. Elizabeth McGovern is hosting a series on the Smithsonian channel called Million Dollar American Princesses. It's about rich American girls who married cash-strapped British royalty in the 19th and 20th centuries. Not sure how many episodes there are in total, but the first episode laying the groundwork and discussing Jennie Jerome (Winston Churchill's mother) aired this week.
  5. Hmmm, former winners as team leaders? Let's hope this isn't in the mold (no pun intended) of the less than successful Under the Gunn.
  6. There's a part 2 after the first "commercial". Just hang on.
  7. Recap of episode 1 for those of you (like me) who cannot wait another 6 months or so to see this on PBS: http://www.afterellen.com/tv/407037-last-tango-halifax-recap-3-1-sipping-furry-cup It's a full blow-by-blow recap, not a review, so DO NOT read it if you don't want to be spoiled. Frankly, I find this series to be so well acted that even knowing what's going to happen doesn't ruin watching it later.
  8. I had to pass this on. It's from an interview with Adam Savage of Mythbusters, and he's talking about how they logically test theories for that show: "If you go out to look for Bigfoot and you don’t find him, you’ve only proven one half of the equation—that you don’t know how to find Bigfoot." ETA: New 2-hr episode this Sunday; the crew is going to Britain.
  9. Put me on the list, too. The American version was both captivating due to the bakers and funny due to Jeff. Very low-key, unusual for American competition shows, but I guess all the drama was off-screen with the judges. Everyone on the TWoP thread loved the show, it was certainly worthy of coming back for 6-8 weeks over the summer. I figured the British version would retain what I liked about the American show and I was right. I have no idea who the hosts or the judges are (I only know Paul because he was on the American version). Anyway, I'm in.
  10. Was it ever mentioned on-air that the Save could be given to another team or is it just coming up in post-race interviews? Also, I don't remember any pit-stop clues including the phrase 'You have X dollars for this leg of the race'. Did they just not show the teams reading the entire clue, or is money no longer a factor on the race?
  11. Yeah, I'm burning out on this show with the DaVinci Code sidetrips and lack of progress.
  12. Can someone provide a link to some of the post-race interviews? I'm having trouble finding them.
  13. Do you have a link for this site? Just typing in 'Alaska gold' brings back a lot of stuff.
  14. Maybe I'm just having a senior moment, but I don't recall any memory task done by a team together. It's always been a roadblock done by a single team member.(Of course, I bailed on last season's finale because I didn't want any of the final3 teams to win.) What Brooke said at the airport wasn't that it was 'unfair' that Amy and Maya were still in the race, she said it was 'disgusting'. Just when I thought I couldn't dislike her any more, she set the bar even lower.
  15. Instead of an All-Stars season, I'd like to see what I call a 'Second Chance' season. It would have only teams that were eliminated early in their season. What can I say? I'm a sucker for an underdog.
  16. I've been thinking about how the Express Pass and now the Save end up going to strong teams that really don't need them. I think it would be interesting if every team got an Express Pass right out of the gate, one get out jail free card to use when they wished. That would bring in some of the strategy that used to be involved with the Fast Forwards back in the olden days.
  17. I wonder if the elimination of a team in the midst of the last leg was the real ramification of the unused Save. And speaking of the Save..... Last September: Phil: And in Season 25, we introduce the Save! Us: Ughh! The Save is the worst thing ever! Last night: Phil: And in Season 26, TAR will be all dating couples including 5 teams meeting for the first time! Us: ???!!?? WTF? Can we just have the Save instead? It wasn't SO bad.
  18. That was a nice, unpredictable finish. Way to go, Amy and Maya! You won the leg that mattered.
  19. I thought that the threat was that if Mac didn't have ACN report the story then the source was going to dump all the documents onto the internet anyway. It doesn't look like that happened, and it doesn't look like AP published a story, either. Since this has been the main story arc of the entire season, it would have been nice if that was addressed.
  20. So once again we see Dave running everything to get the new wash plant into operation and Todd doing.......nothing. If it wasn't for Tony Beets (who I don't even particularly like) I would stop watching this show. It's really past it's expiration date.
  21. I was just reading about Super Typhoon Hagupit, which is expected to make landfall in the Phillipines on Saturday, and it occurred to me that the Amazing Race Disaster Curse is still in operation.
  22. She may be annoying to be with 24/7, but I have to say that I can't think of anyone who has enjoyed the race more. Certainly more than anyone the last few seasons, and more than any other super-fans who have competed. And that enjoyment is a pleasure to watch. It's clear that she's won by just being on the race. Although I think the episode title should be: "God doesn't care which tuk-tuk we pick." ETA: Just like the Morocco leg with the goat milking should have been titled: "She's doing her dissertation on butterfat!" Amy comes up with some good quotes.
  23. Right. And three spin-off series.
  24. I agree with you about Mac and Maggie but not Sloan. In this episode I thought (again) that Sloan's hair looked fabulous. It was absolutely perfectly cut (although it's a little longer than the first 2 seasons) and framed her face to perfection. If that isn't Olivia Munn's off-camera hairstyle she really needs to consider it. IIRC, Mac's father was either the British ambassador to the U.S. or the U.N., and that's how she came to be born in America. So whatever her mother was, her father was definitely British. She can be Catholic if that's what Sorkin wants her to be, but after 2 1/2 seasons without a single reference to her (or Will's) religion, for him to throw in that she's a 'devout Catholic' just seems odd. Similarly, Mac suddenly seems to be using the fact that Will has an Irish heritage to explain his stubbornness. I would more likely attribute it to the fact that he's a Nebraska farm boy. It's much more in line with his backstory up until this point.
