  1. I don't think they've ever said why he would be attempting suicide, although Gillian has said he was a heavy drinker. But there must have been a legitimate reason to claim it was a suicide attempt if the police closed the investigation.
  2. It looks like they're going to start off with a stunt Top Chef pulled during it's Texas season: They're going to tell all the newly arrived contestants that they haven't really made the show yet, there's another 'audition' and one of them will be going home immediately. Didn't like it on TC, don't think I'm going to like it here.
  3. Count me in with those who assumed that a log-splitter involved some sort of axe or sharp blade. The pictures I pulled up with a casual search have me very confused. How would you go about committing suicide with one of those - and then not quite finish the job? Why would you think it's the right tool for the job? Is it possible that they have something more old-fashioned on the farm? It's making me think that Gillian may be responsible for Eddie's death and she was going to turn it into an accident, i.e., "Look, Eddie tripped and got his head jammed into the log splitter. While it was on." This is turning into a very dark season. Another thing that bothers me is Raff and his girlfriend's pregnancy. Gillian laid the whole thing on Alan as if he's the only man Raff could talk to, and he wasn't there when Raff needed him. But Raff also has his Uncle Robbie, with whom he was close enough to move in with for a short time. And although you can see he's very close to his grandfather, his uncle might be a better choice to go to with a problem like a pregnant girlfriend.
  4. From the very beginning until the President's final scene I kept wondering if the Chief of Staff was doping him with something to mimic Alzheimers. When he signed the President's name to Jack's rendition order it came so naturally that it was obvious that he'd been forging the President's signature for some time. Maybe it was just to cover up Heller's lapses, but at some point he became a stooge for the Russians, and who knows what else he did for them. I was expecting that either the helicopter would explode, or Belechek would shoot it down, and I'm very unhappy with TPTB's re-edit to have Jack flying off to be tortured by the Russians. It gives no closure. It doesn't help that one of my favorite mystery novels is Polar Star by Martin Cruz Smith wherein the hero has escaped from the KGB and in flashbacks you are told what they did to him. Not pleasant. I was glad to see the Prime Minister show up in the end. I guess once the immediate threat to London was over he decided to kick back for some tea and crumpets and a long nap.
  5. They're doing a variation of Roshomon wrt the events of Eddie's suicide, i.e., little bits and pieces from different people who are sometimes withholding information and some times actively lying. What I'm getting is not that Gillian finished off Eddie after his botched suicide attempt (and for some reason I have no problem with that), it's that Alan is afraid that there was no suicide attempt and Gillian out and out murdered Eddie. And it's not just Celia that knows now. John knows a certain amount, although we don't know what version of events Gillian told John, and we know how well he can keep his tongue.
  6. Well, this question I can answer. He also owns a small cottage somewhere that he rents out to a young couple. At one point last season Celia asked whether they could live there once they got married but Alan was reluctant to give his tenants notice. Asking them if they want to buy the house is one of the few suggestions Celia has made that I agree with. The 'bungalow' (really not what I would consider a bungalow, hence the quotes) they visited had a spectacular view but I thought it was very ugly. This was a pretty grim episode. While Celia shouldn't have told Robbie about Gillian's abortion, Gillian is just flying off the handle at everything Celia does. Celia apologized (very sincerely, I thought) and she can't do more than that. I was waiting for someone to suggest that Kate adopt baby Flossie, 2 problems solved in one fell swoop. Really concerned about who dies in the next episode.
  7. Season 2 DVDs are only available for pre-order in the U.S. Sorry for the double post, I was trying to add this to my earlier one and messed up.
  8. I have such a hard time paying attention to this show anymore, did they ever conclude that the obviously fake video was fake? The one with a guy in a squatch suit running in the woods while the kids in front were doing a s'mores video? I have to say that I prefer watching the 'enhanced' episodes because rather than random viewers' tweets they show comments from the team, and Ranae gives great snark. I swear I heard Cliff say in a recent episode 'It's a scientifically known fact...' ME: 'There are no scientifically known facts about squatches because it's not scientifically known if they exist!'
  9. Yes, when did the position of President's Daughter and Official Hostess become part of the chain of command? I have a real hard time with all the so-called admirals and generals advising the president and none of them appear over 40, if that. Heller and Boudreau are the only 2 guys with any gray hair in the room.
  10. Just an FYI, the above link will contain spoilers if you are watching the U.S. airing of the show on PBS.
  11. At the end of that scene the camera backs up and you can see their car, so they drove up. I like Gillian and her story as well, although I think sleeping with John was a poor choice. Is Paul coming back this season? I hated him at the beginning of S1 but by the end I found him rather endearing, being dragged in his cast from pillar to post by all and sundry.
  12. I think Gillian sleeping with John is a pretty big deal, and I can understand why everyone is shocked. Even if they'd never met before, they're practically family and they know it. Not only has Gillian gotten fairly close to Caroline, she's starting a relationship with Robbie. And IIRC, John didn't even come on to Gillian, she asked him to come to bed with her. I can't wait to see what Robbie does when he finds out.
  13. Nah, when that house is being destroyed they show the aluminum gutters flying away. And how much magnetic material could there be in the sheriff's walkie-talkie that got pulled off her shoulder? This show drives the science nerd in me crazy. (And I didn't even watch last season after the first 2 episodes. I got pulled in by the S1 retrospective last week. Condensed into 1 hour it was pretty interesting.)
  14. I'm a little confused. The new IT guy (Gavin?), the one with the Scottish accent that comes in and out, who is he supposed to be with? CIA, DoD or MI5? Is Chloe's eyeliner just makeup, or is it tattooed on? Because considering she started the day after 2-3 days of CIA 'enhanced' interrogation, and she's been on the go ever since, it looks really fresh, not a single smear.
  15. As a comment and not a criticism or snark, I thought her face looked chubbier, and that wasn't due to a sweater.
  16. I loved it when it ripped off badges and nametags and left belt buckles. And theoretically, anyone wearing lace-up shoes would have metal rivets on them. But the belt buckles were so freaking obvious.
  17. I thought the Jason/Erik sex scene was laughable because damn, next to Eric Jason looks like a pygmy. This show was only good during the first 2-3 seasons when it was trying to stay true to the books. Then it got caught up in it's own celebrity and just went into the toilet. (And it took the last couple of Sookie books with it because they were crap as well. ) Taking this off my DVR list, I can't stand to watch it.
  18. He's supposed to be an expert in primitive living skills, so that attitude seems appropriate. It's a different take from Cody's, but I don't mind it. It's Joe that still drives me away from this show. Can't stand him.
  19. I'm confused as to why this thread has a November '13 date associated with it. Was that the day it was broadcast in the UK? Shouldn't we go by the US airdate which will be tomorrow 6-29-14?
  20. That was like some poorly thought out Hitchcock film. Didn't like it, deleted it off the DVR as soon as it ended.
  21. Someone needs to remind Anna Paquin that Sookie is supposed to have a Southern accent.
  22. Is there any new info about the quality of the S12 DVDs? I've been holding off buying them - waiting for a sale, mostly, but don't want a defective set, either.
  23. I couldn't believe Joe the Jerk was upset at Matt's method of syphoning water. "It's not cool!" Tell me Joe, how would you feel if Matt told you he had found water but didn't bring you any because you were afraid of his spit?
  24. SIA42, I'm sure someone else will pop in with the exact details, but a few years ago, they were in a house and Grant claimed that someone pulled his jacket. That clip went viral as some folks claimed it was demonstrably a lie. Personally, I see no reason why Grant (of all people) would try to fake something like that when he's got a cameraman following a few feet behind him recording everything. As to the haunted bar(somewhere on the West Coast, IIRC), I know they stopped the investigation once they realized they were being punked, and they talked to someone (either the owners or the manager) who really didn't take a lot of responsibility for the set-up (blaming others), but I think they may have done it that night rather than go through a standard reveal.
  25. Watching this show, as much as I love it, I've always been a little scared that something is going to happen to one of the leads, who, after all, are seniors. Turns out I was right: Derek Jacobi had a serious fall as reported in the Daily Mail. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/tvshowbiz/article-2619585/Derek-Jacobi-raced-hospital-speedboat-fall-1-000-night-Maldives-hotel.html
