Anticipation, Speculation, and Discussion: Emerald City
ItCouldBeWorse replied to David T. Cole's topic in Emerald City [V]
West herself wasn't promiscuous that I recall. Regardless, that would have made her transformation all the more meaningful, I think. The "I am not a racist" crowd can always find justification for not casting anyone but whites; that doesn't mean I agree with them. Doesn't the woman here look like a perfect Witch of the West? Based on this picture alone, I wouldn't say that she looks like a perfect Witch of the West (too smiley) but she is undeniably gorgeous. -
Anticipation, Speculation, and Discussion: Emerald City
ItCouldBeWorse replied to David T. Cole's topic in Emerald City [V]
The gun worked because black women are not allowed to have major roles (even when they are billed as such), especially in sf and fantasy. Why couldn't West have been played by a black woman? Possibly because West is sexually promiscuous and a drug addict, so the very pale Glinda's criticisms of her would take on racial overtones (although the visuals would have been fantastic!) Some would liken her to the caricature of crack whores in many films, and would likely complain about the stereotype. I do agree that the actress and her wardrobe were fabulous and I look forward to seeing her in Black Panther. Tip/Ozma's parents appear to be black and I believe her role to have been major. Also, as West said about Ozma, when dealing with Eamon she was stern, while also merciful to his family (better for them to forget him then to bemoan his fate; I would think that Eamon would have actually been grateful for that kindness-I just wonder how they will support themselves since Eamonn has been stripped of his land and title). At least she's still alive. I thought she had bled out in Dorothy's arms and was dead when we heard the sirens. -
Yea hopefully Oliver continues to stand out. Lol, what makes you think Donna is enjoying it? She certainly seems to enjoy the plotting and scheming. It makes her feel involved and important.
-
What do people think would make Donna happy? What kind of vocation would allow the world to recognize how fabulous she is, instead of seeing her as just a legal secretary? (Btw, having a reputation as the best legal secretary in NYC, with recruiters constantly vying for you, would be pretty great in real life for someone with her ego.)

It's hard for us to recognize within the context of this show since we never see it, but Oliver is being written as someone with real ethics who does not want to be part of a questionable deal! Mike kind of understands that and doesn't want to disappoint him, but he is so used to stretching the truth when it is to his benefit to do so that he keeps going back on the promises Oliver extracted from him. I suppose that Oliver will be coming over to PSL and that Harvey and Mike will be constantly hiding shady strategies from him. Oliver should run very far. Jessica, Louis, Rachel, and Katrina have all been befouled by the toxic atmosphere. Donna actually seems to enjoy it.

I've read that the 4 older kid actors get $70,000 per episode (not sure if this is true for Lily and Joe). If 2 of them don't appear in an episode, does the show save their salaries, or do they have a full episode payment guarantee?

Someone knew when to abandon a sinking ship: http://deadline.com/2017/03/gina-torres-deal-star-produce-potential-suits-spinoff-1202031857/ ETA: ahisma posted this in the Media topic last week, but it's relevant to the quote above.

So is Harvey paying Mike a quarter million dollar advance? $5,000 per month for the clinic is $60,000 per year, which Harvey said was half of what he was offering Mike, and then Mike told him to double it. ETA: I miscalculated by a power of 10, as per Joimiaroxeu: "I went back and watched it again because I couldn't believe the numbers I was hearing. Mike gave the clinic $50,000 (they repeated the number several times) and the guy who runs it said "thirty days of rent". Assuming he meant the money would all go to rent and not mostly to salaries, that's $600,000 a year, which would mean Harvey offered Mike $1.2M. Mike then negotiated up to $2.4M. But then I googled "Manhattan office space rent" and $5,000/month seems more like it. Either someone really goofed in the script or the $50K represents all the clinic's monthly overhead and not just rent. So, no-law-degree-having Mike gets rewarded a $2.4M salary for years of illegal behavior. They'll probably make him a partner next and put his name on the wall."

Oh, everyone's getting it all, except Louis ofc. Mike gets to be a lawyer for PSL and the clinic, gives the clinic a bunch of money, bring over Oliver, and gets Harvey's office while he takes Jessica's and heads the firm. Louis got dumped by stupid Tara and her unborn baby. The screen said, "Back this summer," or something to that effect. I wish this show would just end already Oh, and Jessica thinks the Chicago bar (she means Illinois) isn't going to care if she is disbarred in NY for admitting she knew that Mike was a fraud. If any further lawsuits are filed against her or the firm for Mike's unlicensed shenanigans, she's now voided their malpractice insurance, that's for sure. And even though Donna is going to get paid a lot of money for something she didn't even invent, she's not happy about her lack of credit, and made vague noises about needing "more."

"32.5%", "overlap", "exclusion" Ha, ha, ha. Their take on patent law is so completely made up that I can't even discuss it.

If you met the babies, just say that you remember them too, but not on Facebook for the world to see. You are right not to have said anything critical. She wants to know that people remember them. Every dead baby is a tragedy, but she ended her pregnancy years on an unusually bad note. A subsequent living baby does not make up for the dead one, but it does distract you over the years. Even though she still had 2 older children, she was anticipating babies and her arms were empty, and remain empty until today.

Both Emery and Evan have become quite fresh with their parents. First season Jessica would not have stood for it.- 24 replies

The Wishlist: What We'd Like To See & What We Expect
ItCouldBeWorse replied to vb68's topic in Saturday Night Live
I do think it's live. If it weren't, there would certainly have been a great temptation Sunday night to edit it for the West Coast! -
I can't remember, but do Kevin and Kate even know that there was a third baby...or do they think that they were twins and then Randall was adopted? I can't remember if any of the characters mentioned anything to indicate that either way.... This is not direct evidence, but I believe they have seen videos of themselves in the Big 3 knitted onesies right after they were born, which would have been made before their birth, so I believe they know but we have not seen them discuss it. They've also seen pictures of their very pregnant Mom, so I choose to believe that they know. I don't think there will be another reveal where Kate and Kevin are furious at Rebecca for "lying" to them by omission about their dead sibling.
-
Perhaps as to the parents, but I doubt the children really think about a sibling they never knew, and of whom there are no pictures, even though he was Kate and Kevin's triplet. Certainly not Randall. If Kate or Kevin were an only child, perhaps they would muse about the what if, but this seems realistic to me.

The Wishlist: What We'd Like To See & What We Expect
ItCouldBeWorse replied to vb68's topic in Saturday Night Live
And who will be Gary from Chicago? Keenan? He certainly got more interesting with the revelations about his past. I have a question, though. If someone was on a celebrity tour during the Oscars, doesn't it mean they're not that invested in movie celebrities or they'd be in their hotel room actually watching the Oscars? So the tourists who were invited into the theater would be a lot less impressed by the whole thing than your typical tour bus riders? -
Maybe James should interact with her in the course of his business. They would make a stunning couple.

"Trevante" may become more popular thanks to Moonlight.

I certainly wouldn't dwell on the dead baby with the living children. The parents will have told the other kids off screen, I'm sure, but if they mourn every birthday, they should do so privately, I think. Why make the surviving kids feel guilty for surviving, or make Randall feel like a replacement? It would not help the child who died. This does not mean that children shouldn't know about death, or visit family graves. But, this child was not a part of their lives, and being told their birth/adoption story occasionally should be plenty. By the way, I feel the same about younger children who grow up in the shadow of an older child who has died, especially if the death took place before their birth or when they were too young to remember him/her. It's certainly normal for the parents to miss that child, maybe even desperately, but the much younger children should not have to mourn every year or wonder if they would have even been born if only that older child had survived. A picture and an occasional happy story about the missing child should be plenty. With a child who died at birth, there are no happy stories to tell.

I think it's been pretty unusual that since they found out that Jeremiah was alive, they haven't spent every available waking minute trying to locate and rescue him. It's not like when a parent dies, and you eventually come to accept it and move on with your life. How can you spend time angsting about new relationships when your father is out there, held captive by terrorists? At least talk about the steps you've taken to find him. Ask Lena to get involved- set a trap! It would actually have been kind of funny if Kara had said to Lena, once the latter knew the truth about her mother: "You know, I just found out that your (adoptive) mother has been holding my (adoptive) father captive for more than a decade. Do you have any ideas?"

We know that he likes them younger. Why not his first marriage, too? -
And he's got experience with criminal family members.

If it was, he sure made a lot of extra work for Liz.

Life In Pieces - General Discussion
ItCouldBeWorse replied to formerlyfreedom's topic in Life In Pieces
I originally thought they were going to announce a pregnancy, and were asking each other how it felt to "be" pregnant (kind of silly, I know with regard to Tyler), but then it became clear they weren't talking about that. I wonder if that will be a future plot point, thought. His parents had Tyler earlier than planned, and these two definitely aren't any smarter. -
Yes, but him basically calling her a slut during that argument means he isn't over it and never will be, so she's not the one for him. And you know that if they do get back together, he will give his all to raising that baby, and then she'll break up with him over something and he'll have absolutely no right to stay in that baby's life and will be crushed. Better not to get attached in the first place. Oh, and MIKE STILL HASN'T SPENT ANY TIME IN LAW SCHOOL! (sorry for shouting.)
