Current Plots Discussion: Actually Today's Episode

But why did we have to watch an entire freaking year of it becoming over? God. This has dragged on for long enough. Send her off with Sonny or give her a job to occupy her or something. But no more scenes of her and Justin please - they are worse than teenagers!! -

I can't deal with Adrienne either. I adore Judi Evans from the Another World days, but I just can't with this character anymore. I don't know where the story with her marriage is going, I don't know why she missed her son-in-law's funeral, and this breast cancer gene thing does nothing to make her more sympathetic. Cut ties with Justin or shut the hell up! Be mature! Gahhh! I just feel like every scene with her is a total and utter waste, and that's a testament to the writing. Why Sonny - a character with unresolved plot lines and a child to look after - is moving off canvas and we're stuck with boring folks like Adrienne is beyond me. -
Ahhh, okay.

I still hate that Sami essentially walked away from Kate to go back to her creep of a husband, after Kate stepped up to help Sami put him away. With Kate and Sami dismantling the DiMerra empire, it would have been a great way to begin writing out Stefano...if they had seen it through. No, the Basic Black question was why. John has zero interest in fashion so...
-
Why did John Black start a fashion company named after himself?

And yet, Nicole's performance acting-wise was perfect. Did you see her choke up at the end? It was as if Nicole was finally having a happy moment and a little bit of hope for her future after years and years of crap. I couldn't help but choke up a little too. Great actress. Terrible dance choreography. -

I'm liking the effort the show's putting into trying to make Aiden's thought process artistically interesting, but it still feels a little amateurish. Having Murderer Aiden take one moment to look back at Real Aiden would have been more compelling then them constantly exchanging looks the whole time. And did the director forget that they'd already shown Murderer Aiden walking up the stairs? In the next scene he's suddenly outside breaking in and then going up the stairs...is continuity within the same episode too much to ask for? Also: this is the biggest bag of horse poo ever. Way to throw your best new leading man under the bus show! And wouldn't Andre be able to guess that Aiden would kill off Hope by impersonating the strangler? It's not like that wouldn't assist him right? He further dooms Chad while at the same time getting the money to buy himself and his son their safety. -
It's clear that Amy only created her out of necessity - to stall the Luke / Lorelei wedding because she didn't know how many more seasons she would have to write. Hopefully, now that she knows exactly how much screen time she has to write for, there won't be any fat. April was indigestible fat.
-
I absolutely will not tolerate any talk of or appearances by April. I so so hope Amy does not put her fondness for the actress above our distaste for the entire storyline. If I can just watch these films instead of having to watch the second half of season 6 and all of season 7, that would be ideal.

That was totally the best Emily scene ever. Well, she has a lot of really awesome scenes... I think it makes the most sense to spend some time reintroducing all of the main characters and then have the funeral and the loss of Richard play out. I suspect that might be the context of the first film, to bring Lorelai Emily and Rory closer together for the next three. Is anyone else still completely giddy over this news!?!? I am so flipping happy!

WTH??? We suffer through months of this creepy character and don't even get to see him on the receiving end of his long overdue comeuppance?!?

Wait... Do we know for a fact that Clyde isn't reappearing later? That was the only thing that I was really looking forward to with his character - payback! I wanted Sami, Kate, Stefano, JJ and and possibly Jordan to get to see him sentenced formally. -
Paris is my MUST for this revival. I miss her so badly. I want her there the whole time. I want scenes of her and Emily. And Taylor. And Lorelei. And Mrs. Kim. May it never ever end. Also: YAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAYYYYYY!!!

I've only just realized that Victor should definitely have been at the funeral. And by extension, Maggie. -

Abby being quiet in the background was a refreshing change and completely appropriate for those very reasons.I had to laugh today during Ben's big confession to Clyde. The random close ups on his eyes we're so amateurishly edited together that I couldn't really believe this was a professionally done show. Couple that with Ben's college drama class sniffle acting, and I just couldn't bear to watch. This guy can not act. I'm sure he could do swell on a jeans commercial or a perfume ad or maybe even a runway, but appearing natural in a scene is impossible for him, and he fails utterly at anything more complicated than that. Considering how little he was giving them on camera, I'm surprised they didn't just use the close up on the eyes only for the moment where he seemed most like he was crying (even though he wasn't). Instead, it was all randomly intercut. There's just no finesse to this show! Thank goodness Clyde was there to share the scene with him. That guy can act and was creating all of the drama. It's a shame I utterly loathe his character. I am beginning to think Aiden will try to fake Hope's death after the wedding. It's just too hard to believe he will actually seriously kill her or attempt to. -

I thought it was deliciously telling that Andre didn't list Kristin among the deceased DiMerras. I'm betting he only brought up EJ to get a rise out of Sami. Roman's punch was the best thing he's done in years. I hate the "cause I'm a DiMerra!" line. Just more oversimplifying on the writer's part. And how lame was his explanation for being Stefano's son? I skipped the actual funeral but saw the wake...were Brady, Adrienne and Justin seriously not there?! Sami and Kate are gold. Whatever happens with the show, I hope they eventually address Marlena losing Sami to Kate. Steve is gross. I'm sorry but I dislike that Kayla at all seems to have a small soft spot for him. I want him to cut out the macho crap and pet names and just give her time and respect. Stealing kisses doesn't make up for being a deadbeat. -
Oh man, we have weeks left of Chad still being the main suspect??? This is getting old...

I'm sorry, but Paul definitely seemed to be moments away from laying one on Sonny during their scenes last week. I get that the show wants him to appear concerned but the dialogue and the acting really suggest he just wants to bed Sonny again and that turns me off big time. The man is in mourning - stop trying to give him goo goo eyes! No guy ever jogs through that park without the writers trying to create sexual tension (see Brady, etc). -

Sami was right to freeze EJ out of bed. He laughed about her brother's rape. Of course I really don't know whether rape is a laughing matter between them, given their history...but I would venture to guess not. -
I suppose part of the direction of this movie is making them a bit younger so that younger audiences can get on board with her, but it's rather funny to think that the show back in the eighties featured a woman almost in her twenties and nobody doubted that the kids would relate to her...

I didn't know they released a tribute album! What a neat idea! A shame it isn't generating much buzz. Releasing the original songs would be really cool though...

My recommendation would be The Batman Adventures comics, which tie into the Batman: The Animated Series. You should be able to find some collected editions and plenty of back issues at comic shops. The series ran in one form or another for almost 15 years and contains some wonderful stories, some of the best I've ever read, set in Batman's universe. It definitely isn't too violent but it does capture the characters wonderfully and she can also watch the cartoon at the same time.

I just read through A Death in the Family and A Lonely Place of Dying and in spite of how well known they are, I don't think either story is particularly well written or deserving of the attention they seem to get. The first story at least gives us the opportunity to sympathize for Jason Todd before he is killed off. It sent him out like a hero, which I appreciate, but all of the stuff about the Joker just feels a little flat. He isn't gleeful or funny and if the character wasn't drawn as the Joker he could essentially be almost anyone else. The Middle Eastern diplomat angle also strikes me as a bit odd, considering the encounter Jason Todd had with the diplomat's son just before the storyline. It also just seems like too easy of a way to keep the Joker from immediately being killed off by Batman. I also think I just don't like seeing the villains be so completely brutal. It's stuff like that that made comics far less appealing to me. As for Tim's introduction, he really comes off like a fanboy who insists on being included in spite of the very very obvious reasons why he should not. I like what the character eventually became, but his introduction was tremendously forced, just in terms of his characterization. Are there really so few good Batman stories out there that stuff like this which has pacing and characterization problems is considered gold?

I don't mind Rafe suddenly being useful to the show after seemingly years of standing on the sidelines doing nothing, but I deeply resent him suddenly being in the middle of four storylines - the murders, his father returning, falling for Hope, being connected to Eve - and getting large amounts of screen time when so many other fan favorite characters are making brief returns or having interesting material written for them for the first time in a long time. He doesn't need to be everywhere all of a sudden. I agree though that Sonny isn't as compelling as I seemingly convinced myself he was. I guess as one of the few good guys on the show I was rooting for him, but Freddie keeps turning in these really weird performances where he gives goo goo eyes to Paul and doesn't seem to get really angry or really sad. He's very sedate isn't he? This week's crying aside, that is. I guess he just isn't as raw as AS. I'm loving her now more than ever and hoping she doesn't leave even though I know she will. Her work this week has been some of her best. The EJ stuff is stupid but I understand they have to try and wrap up what they previously left dangling. I'm just hoping Sami learns the truth about Clyde's involvement and eventually comes back around to the fact that EJ was scum.
