  1. A friend’s son, who is studying theology says he interprets that Leviticus quote about a man not lying with a man as he would with a woman as being less about the sexual act, and more about how men were not supposed to be submissive to another man, unless they were slaves. And since these particular cults don’t have equality of the sexes, they have men being headships, to women they are supposed to control, they can’t wrap their heads around a relationship of equals, so if two men are together, they assume one must be in the so-called “womanly” submissive role. Which is wrong in their view.
  2. I'm appalled, as always, that the Rodriguii somehow have fans. I can kind of see how people in those circles might still be enamored of the Duggars, even with the scandals, because they probably all wish they had the big house and the TV show, but looking up to a family that has a ton of emaciated kids all sleeping in one RV together...I don't get how that's something to aspire to. And yet, there's always people in their comments, singing their praises. I guess the best we can hope for poor Nurie is that she gets enough to eat, and isn't as fertile as her crazy mother.
  3. I saw this on tumblr
  4. At least Spurgie gets to have fun, play around and act like a happy little kid.
  5. I’ve known someone who has worked in CPS in my country, and in all honesty, they are so overworked a family like that would probably be put on the back burner, while they deal with the overwhelming number of cases they get with obvious physical injuries and horrific sexual abuse, far surpassing anything we’ve seen with the particular families discussed on these boards. CPS has a huge burnout rate, and never enough staff to cover all the cases that come their way.
  6. The problem with that of course, is that any educated doctor/vet with money isn’t going to be interested in someone of Jana’s limited education and experience unless he’s the same kind of controlling creep many here accuse Jeremy of being.
  7. They'll probably put some carpet in the treehouse and call it a day.
  8. Interesting how all these people who claim money will be useless after an apocalypse keep selling things for large amounts of money.
  9. Are we sure she was sad about losing Joy and not just realizing that in a few years time, she might be forced into becoming a teen bride.
  10. I wonder if he includes provisions like the Royal family, where the children must be raised in the religion of the family, and should the parties separate, the custodial parent is the Duggar, not whoever married in.
  11. Every negative comment probably confirms his belief in how persecuted he is for being one of the "true Christians". He'll never understand it's because he's an insufferable preachy asshat.
  12. The Krispy Kreme near me had a sign for that, and I briefly considered it, then decided it was too much effort. I'm officially too lazy for free donuts. Back on topic: think of all the donuts they could buy if they had proper jobs.
  13. I assumed the dumbbell was to show us that he was already a manly man with no chance of being even a little bit feminine.
  14. Yeah, you couldn't keep shoes on me when I was a kid, so I won't ding them for that. I could walk barefoot on just about any surface, including scorching hot pavement in the middle of an Australian summer and be fine, my feet were so toughened up.
  15. For me the Jana issue isn't that she's 27 and unmarried (I am 40 and unmarried), or even that she lives at home, as many young adults are doing these days out of money concerns, but that she is 27 and still considered a child in the eyes of her parents, because she is not married. Regardless of marital status, a grown woman shouldn't have to share a room with her pre-teen sisters, especially when living in a house that is large enough to afford her private quarters, even if that meant moving into the shed Ben lived in when he was courting Jessa.
  16. Only if they need one for a new season.
  17. And notice how it is all about the sex. The bible also says not to eat shellfish, but you don't see the Dullards out there protesting against lobster trawlers or petitioning to get all the Red Lobster restaurants shut down. It seems with most of the sects that are obsessed with sex and sexuality, they are willing to let everything else slide, but you better not touch yourself, someone of the same sex, or before marriage, and they will do their best to make sure you don't.
  18. Not long ago I read a theory that I found interesting, that the story of Onan wasn't anti-masturbation, but anti-disobedience. That the point was Onan's father had told him to impregnate his late brother's wife, and by 'spilling his seed' he was disobeying his father, and that was the sin. Though, given Duggar family dynamics, I don't want to her Derrick preaching about obeying parents either.
  19. Remember the endless "Slip, slop, slap" campaigns. Slip on a shirt, slop on some sunscreen, and slap on a hat. Izzy looks a lot older than he really is in that first picture.
  20. Grandparenting conference? How long does it take to say "appreciate your grandkids for how many there are, not who they are, and only interact with them if it's for a photo op."
  21. From xkcd. (Not calling anyone here an asshole, just appreciate this comic, as many people out in the world seem to misunderstand 'free speech' as I can say anything I want and everyone has to listen to me.)
  22. They've probably shunted the kids of to someone else's house, and that's why they're calling it a date.
  23. New theory, Jessa has been posting old pictures of her and Jinger, because TLC know that the Dullards are a creepy dead end that no one wants to see, so this is paving the way for a story line where Jessa misses her beloved best friend sister so much, that she and Bin pick up and go to Texas for a while.
  24. Wouldn't it be nice if Jessa was looking at the pictures with just the two of them, and thinking how her boys might benefit from being the only two children she has for a while, so they can all enjoy each other without more kids clamoring for her attention.
  25. In the real world someone who expects to be feared and obeyed without question as well worshipped is considered to be abusive and someone you should stay away from. I wouldn't want to follow a God who ticks the boxes on the 'are you in an abusive relationship?' checklist. Any chance Derrick thought he was complimenting Jill but throwing shade at Jessa with that quote.
