  1. My daughter is a child psychiatrist. During her 3-year general psych residency and 2 year child psych fellowship, she rotated through quite a few departments -- neurology, med wards, inpatient, outpatient, state hospital, etc. Son is now a family practice resident, and starts a new rotation at the beginning of each month (he likes clinics and wards, dislikes OB and surgery -- mostly because he doesn't like surgeons, ha) On topic -- this wasn't my favorite episode, except watching Dr. Fire be freeee! (now run, dude, run!)
  2. I'm completely done with this show. There's no longer anyone I even sort of like among the characters and the violence has just become senseless and cheap (obviously IMO). I asked myself last night if I was actually enjoying that hour of my life, and the answer was no, so ... I would like to see Diego Klattenhoff in a show of his own, though (just not as this character).
  3. Unfortunately, Savetti rang the most true to me. My daughter has had several major health crises. She had an airway injury in a chemistry lab in college that was dismissed as "homesickness" until she had to be placed on a ventilator, and a major stroke at age 30 that never got the tPa injection because they didn't actually believe she was having the symptoms she described. She now has permanent deficits that could possibly have been eliminated. Even in the five years since her stroke, she's gone in to ER several times with problems (like seizures that were initially diagnosed as hysteria) that were totally dismissed by male docs. Now she always asks for a woman doctor if one is available (and both her younger siblings are MDs now - but I've told my son if I ever hear him dismissing a female patient as "all in her head," he will be spanked by his mama in front of all the other doctors and nurses!) She has had some excellent male docs in all the ones she has seen, but her experiences with Savettis have left her skittish. It's going to take me awhile to learn all the new characters, especially since hubs loves these hospital dramas and Code Black, Chicago Med and Night Shift are getting harder for me to distinguish and remember which docs go with which hospital! At least even he bailed on Grey's Anatomy after one season.
  4. As of tonight, I'm out on The Blacklist. Stupid people, senseless violence, and I have no interest in hearing, "Where's mah baybeeeee?" for a whole season. (I spent this whole episode yelling, "Waaaaallllttt! - anyone who endured Lost through the whole series, as I did, will understand). I've bailed on other shows before the end (Bones, Castle, Quantico) but usually from boredom, not so much disgust as with The Blacklist. Or pure rage, as in Sleepy Hollow. So ... yeah, life's too short.
  5. I actually liked the black sheer big bow top and pants set, though I would wear it with a full-length tank underneath (61 years old, size 8/10, not showing this ol' grandma belly out in public). I like sheer tops over tanks, wear a lot of black, and thought the pants were nice. Was it high fashion? Probably not, but the design was supposedly for the everyday woman. I thought the jumpsuit was striking, though I had a military cut olive green jumpsuit in 1977 that really wasn't very different, so not particularly original (and jumpsuits are a nightmare for women who actually have to pee occasionally). Hated the neoprene thing. I liked the denim wrap dress and was surprised it wasn't in the top. I'd have sent Linda (?) home for that wretched kimono/knit thing, so agreed there, but Brik isn't far behind. And Cornelius' design was fine (only fine, unlike his own impression of his skill), but he can go anytime just because I'm tired of the bitchy behind the scenes drama. Other than that -- I'll keep watching, because I just can't seem to quit this show.
  6. As a fan since TOS came out when I was - gulp - 12, I thoroughly enjoyed this new chapter. I liked it much better than Into Darkness (which I didn't hate). I've seen every ST incarnation to the point of memorization (though I can't make myself watch ST 5 again) and I've had no issues with the reboot. Karl Urban was especially wonderful in this one. So, fwiw, I'd say go see it, Chaos Theory. It was just a fun two hours for me with several chuckles, pretty much all I need after watching too much news these days.
  7. I'm more concerned about what part of a chicken is shaped like that magnolia blossom. I find it disturbing (though probably tasty).
  8. For the first time since Season 1, I won't be watching tonight - or any episode this season. Which is okay with them, I'm "old" and not in their target demo. Just wanted to send a shout-out and fond farewell to the show I love, the forums from "the other site" where I spent so many hours chatting (as MsImaginary, I think), playing SYTYCD games, learning so much about dance - even seeking comfort when my mom died (8 years ago, wow). But as fond as my memories are, and as much as I love Cat, I just can't with this new format of precocious little kids and their stage mommies (I barely made it through my own now-grown kids' dance and drama classes with sanity intact). But I will miss the music and dance of some of my all-time favorites from "my" show and I'm grateful for the hours there (and on-line videos to replay!)
  9. So they don't have "real" coffee in 2044 but apparently Jones has an endless supply of cigarettes. I don't know why, of all the wonderful, wacky things that happen in this show, that bugs me and my hubs so much. ha. I can't believe how much I've come to enjoy Jennifer when I found her so annoying at the beginning. And I enjoy Cassie and Jones, but I could watch Time Travelin' Cole and Ramsey as a show all their own.
  10. Here's an interesting article that talks about changing residencies. I'm sure with a little TV magic/handwaving, Reese will be working in the ED next season. http://www.studentdoctor.net/2010/03/switching-specialties/
  11. We get the occasional San Antonio spot in Little Rock, a few for the casinos in Mississippi and Oklahoma, but mostly ours tout Branson, Missouri. "Come home to Branson" is the slogan. On topic, that Infiniti ad with the entitled father and son is making me stabby. Wanna really shake up ol' Dad? Buy a POS beater and give some money to charity!
  12. I actually saw Time After Time with the star, Mary Steenburgen (she just didn't know it, ha). Short version: she's from North Little Rock Arkansas. Hubs and I thought the premise sounded intriguing so went to opening night at an NLR theater, which was almost empty (she wasn't a "name" then, and didn't get much little local attention). A group of people sat behind us in the theater and I noted they were really into the film - which we enjoyed. Stood up to leave after credits rolled, turned around and there was the face I'd just seen on screen. She was there with her family, sitting right behind me. I was so startled all I could say was, "Uh, good movie." She smiled and we left. She and Ted Danson hang out in Little Rock quite a bit now, and I've seen them from a distance, but haven't enjoyed any more premieres with the star. :) And while I'm smiling at that memory, I'm still pissed about Sleepy Hollow.
  13. So, they've killed Abbie, Lizzie from Blacklist, Beckett (I bailed on that show a while ago), and a woman character from the 100 (I don't watch that one, but read about it). Are there any more? Will there be any women left on TV next fall? Oh, yeah -- two broke girls. Because they're such strong, powerful role models. smh. then smh again.
  14. To make it clear, I loved the community at TWoP! I made a lot of friends there that are now my facebook friends and I feel like I know them all well. In the early days, back when I had dial-up and one phone line, my mother used to fuss at me because my phone line was always busy (pre-voice mail, lol), because I was on-line reading hilarious recaps of Roswell and Star Trek: Enterpriise (T'Pol the crack-ho, still makes me fall out laughing). And the early American Idol recaps, with the monster-beneath-the-seal (can't spell the name right) making comments about the singers. I'm sure it was the viciousness among some posters there that led to over-moderation, and I'm glad this seems to be a friendlier, more relaxed atmosphere here, with friendlier moderation.
  15. Another really good thought piece: http://www.denofgeek.us/tv/sleepy-hollow/254450/what-tv-networks-still-dont-understand-about-fandom
  16. I got banned there for comparing Idol's David Archuleta to a young David Cassidy and Donnie Osmond. Apparently, that was "inflammatory." Some eight years later, I'm still trying to figure out why I was banned. And with a vicious note to accompany it, too! smh And, hi, all. I don't post much here, but love reading your responses to my daily dose of snarky judge!
  17. I'm not sure what you're trying to say about Person of Interest, Julia? I think Carter has been sorely missed in that show (which has just been officially cancelled), but there was never any proclamation at the beginning of the series that Reese and Carter were the only two who could defeat the forces of evil, as SH set up with The (Equally Important) Witnesses. If anything, Reese and Harold are the main relationship in that show. I still don't think it ever got back the heart that Carter brought to the series -- which the declining ratings probably testified to. SH was different from any other random-character-killing because it was explicitly stated at the beginning that the two were always destined to be together, that both were needed and that neither could succeed without the other -- and then, "Oh, never mind. Forget what you think you heard, this is what we wanted you to hear ... " Even with POI, there was some shady media going on afterward, with TPTB saying it was always planned and that TH knew from the start that her role was limited, when we found out later that wasn't exactly true (much like Orlando on SH, to stay on topic as much as possible).
  18. phoenics -- I was another sad, struggling Roswell fan. Loved the first season, just shook my head over the increasingly awful seasons afterward. Another show that lost its way entirely. Someone (I can't remember in which thread) mentioned Eureka -- an example of a show that lost its way, listened to its viewers, and rebooted beautifully for season 4 to give the fans exactly what they wanted from the show (including a primary interracial romance and a strong AA couple romance). They also tried to appease TPTB by adding a nerd-boy favorite female who almost ate the show in the last season, but even that was better than season 3. The ratings started to climb, everything looked promising -- and then SyFy chopped it in favor of more wrestling and other (cheaper) crap. They're just now airing good shows again after nearly losing all credibility as a sci-fi channel -- 12 Monkeys is amazing, if you haven't seen it! Several strong female characters, even if one of them is batshit crazy (but still kinda fun). Sort of on-topic with media coverage, the Washington Post has published an examination of how woman in general are still struggling and marginalized by the male dominated Hollywood. Men have the most spoken lines in an astonishing 82 percent of all films (even in the movie Frozen, which is based on two women -- disclaimer, I haven't seen it, but apparently the males have more lines. It's my 3 yo grandson's favorite movie). So, in SH, not only were they shoving aside a WOC, they were following the trend of making the Male the primary focus of the story (and I love a hot guy as much as the next straight, ol' white lady). I don't watch Empire, bailed on Bones a long time ago, so the only Fox show I'm watching at the moment is Lucifer -- which, granted, IS male focused -- and I'm quite sure they'll effitup royally by season 2.
  19. I'm not so sure about this being good news, considering what Fox has done to other shows I used to watch and love (bailed on Bones after the Zach is a serial killer debacle and Sleepy Hollow just broke my heart). I've enjoyed Lucifer so much this season, despite my reservations going in - I just know TPTB will screw it up. For the record, this is probably one of the only shows I've ever watched where I'm NOT shipping the leads. I love the reluctant partner relationship between Lucifer and Chloe but don't want to see them as a couple. I'd rather keep the Elementary dynamic with this one. Anyway -- yay for the renewal ? and hoping for another great season.
  20. So, I've had a couple days to think about it, and I still honestly can't understand the decision making behind this show. It just makes no sense to me whatever. They had a surprise hit on their hands during the first season -- a lightning in a bottle hit that most new series showrunners would sell their souls for (pun intended). Chemistry off the charts with the two leads -- another rare gift to them. And it was a vocal group of fans, telling them exactly what they liked about the show. One would think they'd say, wow, this is working - let's not change anything! So then a new (male) head comes in and says maybe we need more bewbs!! Let's make Katrina a bigger part of the show, put her in a tiny bustier and tight pants and give the (desired young male demographic) something to watch for. The viewers love us so much we can do no wrong! We're bulletproof! They're probably watching for the hot Brit guy and the boobs, anyway, with a side dish of monster-y stuff. They're probably not invested in the equally (if not more) beautiful but darker skinned, intelligent but not-corset-wearing, badass-without-(unreliable)super powers Co-Lead of the first season. Right? The scary headless guy isn't all that important, let's just make him a whiny, scorned boob-coveter -- our young male audience will identify! And look, we can divide the silly 'shipper audience (e.g. females) into teams, like that movie series Twilight did! Team Icabbie v Team Icatrina! They'll love it! Audience leaves in droves. So now, any intelligent (okay, I'm reaching here) showrunner would likely think, oh, crap. We messed up. We should listen to the viewers and go back to the original show they liked so much. The core team of Ichabod, Abbie, Jenny and Irving standing side-by-side or back-to-back as needed to save the world, each willing to die for the greater good (not just Abbie sacrificing herself repeatedly). Abbie and Ichabod, the Witnesses, two totally disparate characters from different times, different worlds, discovering they were meant all along to be united in this great battle, against all obstacles. Two parts of a whole, neither more important than the other, both aware of that fact. But no. Instead, they seemed to say, Damn, there's still too much chemistry between the leads! These two are still too popular, and could bring the show back from near death. We must stop this!! Bring in more white women with boobs! Focus on an evil couple with no coherent plan who sit in a cave and talk a lot! Fine, give that other girl -- Jenny? -- a romance, maybe that'll make the shippers happy while we try everything we can think of to distract them from what they foolishly think they wanted from this show! Why???? Okay, obviously I'm overthinking this, and need more coffee. It still just doesn't make any sense to me. I have to accept that Sleepy Hollow is gone (has been since the end of season 1, really) and won't be coming back whatever these idiots decide to try. Even if they stumble into a new plotline that isn't bad -- which I doubt -- it won't be the same show I tried so hard to love. Not without the heart of the team -- Abbie and Ichabod. Just another TV series disappointment -- but I'll never understand the BTS logic of this one.
  21. Three, you just won the internets for me today. I am so positive that is exactly what was said -- are you sure you weren't there? Really kinda wishing I hadn't started watching Lucifer this season on Fox and absolutely fallen in love with it. God only knows (pun intended) what they'll do to it in season 2.
  22. Reminds me of what they did on Ghost Whisperer (or as I called it, Boob Whisperer) when they killed JLH's husband on the show, then put his soul in another body that everyone else saw but the viewers saw the original as she did (yeah, it was a complicated ridiculous mess. I didn't really watch it, but Mr.Ark liked it -- primarily because of the nickname I gave it). Didn't work in that show, won't work in this one. Not that I plan to be around to see. As if the finale wasn't bad enough, the showrunner comments afterward have just been unforgivably insulting to the upset viewers.
  23. That sound we all just heard was a gang-slap to the face of every viewer, few as we were, who hung in with this crap fest until the end. Abbie Mills deserved better, indeed. Even if this show is back, I won't be.
  24. I really enjoyed the finale. I haven't watched at all for the last three seasons but saw all the seasons before that and it was great seeing so many contestants I got to know back then. Season 7 will always be my favorite of all, and I got a little misty remembering Michael Johns, who was always underrated (even though I wanted David Cook to win that year and still buy his music). Hated JLo's PerformAss, which seemed jarring with the rest of the show, but other than that, I was impressed by how well they managed to fit so many numbers/performers into two hours. Congrats to Trent, who really did work incredibly hard to get to that point (I know how difficult it must have been for him to soldier through the exhaustion and pain of mono). As for the hints to a new, younger AI -- I really hope they aren't going to go the So You Think You Can Dance route and make it all kiddie contestants (the Harry duet being foreshadowing?) This will be the first season of SYTYCD I won't watch at all, and I wouldn't watch AI with that format, either.
  25. I have two offspring who are MDs (one just finishing his first year of residency), which is why I've had more problems with Reese than any other part of this rather standard medical soap. No med student would be allowed to do most of what she's done this season -- and I'd have thrown a shoe at the TV at her drilling into a patient's head if my hubs would have let me (he likes the show better than I do, which is why I'm still sort of watching). That was just flat-out illegal, and though they alluded to the fact that a med student shouldn't have done it, it was a Much bigger deal than that. She seemed to stay in that rotation a longer time than the usual 4th year block. They didn't show her leaving for interviews with the pathology programs she wanted into, did they? My kids were flying around the country for a couple months doing interviews during their 4th year (both got first choice, one in psychiatry, one in family practice). On match day, they and their classmates and families gathered in a local hotel banquet room for the big reveal. Their names were called by the dean of the college of medicine, at which point they went up to open their envelopes in front of everyone and announce their match (you could really tell which of their classmates were thrilled and who was a little disappointed that they didn't get their first choices). And as Starri said, they don't just change their minds after matching. That would require waiting a year to interview again, then opening another match day envelope. One of my kids did have a fellow resident walk out of the hospital mid-shift and just quit medicine -- after 4 years of med school and a year and a half of residency!
