  1. Well how else is the Cheer Captain gonna call out for a Pyramid Formation without saying it? But yeah, I agree on that one. That can be a hard one to do without hand gestures too. Then again Cam Newton was looking, so hand gestures would have been a waste on him anyway.
  2. I wonder if something happened in one the five games that that just made it completely unusable, so they pulled it. But they didn't have a replacement lined up. Maybe they ran out of popcorn last week. Then again at least one of the games last week was truncated too. This better not be the new normal.
  3. I enjoyed this more than others. In the end, I had fun watching it, which I suppose was the point. But the next time a spider goes into someone's mouth, they better gong that shit off right away.
  4. That was my answer too. I too did not think of crack, but that would also be awkward. I think it was something like "Wouldn't you love too?" or something similar. I loved Titus's and Sasheer's bewilderment at who Billie Jean King was.
  5. Was I the only person to watch last night? I actually enjoyed the episode, and the panel, and the questions. Although I don't think anybody matched my answers until the end. Well I did settle on horse for the Putin question. I said Lego Man for the toy question, and Golden Banana Hammock for the stripper one. In the second game, Marshmallow guy was intense. I thought he was gonna storm the judges when he got ruled against on his first question. (I said Buried). The judges did seem harsher than normal this time. I feel sorry for the blond woman in the end, when she clearly had no idea who Willie Nelson or Mick Jagger were. Or if she did, she just had a complete brain fart. Which has happened to all of us.
  6. Can somebody please remind me when the Lucy scene happened in the book? In my mind, it happened when he was in Cairo, but now I am second guessing that. It still seems awfully early in the story last night though. I might need to do a reread this summer after the show is done.
  7. I can't any answer any of your other questions, but bars frequently use ice in urinals as a cheap replacement for a urinal cake, especially if there is no auto flush. And Wednesday brought Mad Sweeney a Southern Comfort and Coke, which I can't imagine tasting good, but I now kinda want to try. Speaking of Mad Sweeney, I am totally in love with him, especially after he was covered in blood. (I think I just learned something about myself) I read, well listened, to the book a few years ago on some long car rides to family events, and loved it. This was after I tried reading it, and had to stop to take a break about half way through. I meant to go back, but never did. I was looking forward to this from the moment I saw news of its pilot. It did not disappoint. Ian McShane is everything I want from Mr Wednesday. I can see be simultaneously being repelled and drawn to him. I loved the opening scene on the beach. I like that we started there. I was worried about Technical Boy, but so far I'm impressed by that. I don't think he can be portrayed the same way he would have been in 2001. I can't wait to see what they have for me the next 7 weeks.
  8. Not to far from where this farm supposedly lies, just down the road a few miles probably, is Scott Air Force Base. About 48 years ago my father was stationed there, met and married my mother, and they had my older brother. Somehow, from what they tell me, the timing of that all kept him from being sent overseas. He and his friends, who also avoided SE Asia, always joked that their job was to protect "Silver Creek" from the communists. And they were apparently successful. Until early1984 when one of the farms was infiltrated by the Russians. I'm almost afraid to tell Dad. It might drive him to start drinking. (Earlier today than he normally does) If they are going to film this show in the fall, why don't they just set it in the fall? Do they think we are too stupid figure it out? This episode begins literally where last week's ends, after they rebury William. It is February. Gabriel says Pasha's dad is going to Illinois on the 29th, presumably that is February 29th. Southern Illinois is not going to be lush and green, with leafy trees in late February/early March. But in October it will be. I don't usually let things like that bother me, but I think my familiarity with the area was a bit too much. Other than that, I enjoyed the episode greatly. Tuan worries me. Paige still annoys me, but that is par the course for teenagers. I kinda hope they spend the entire season saying "Where's Henry." Each time coming up with increasingly ridiculous locations for him to be, with no explanation why he's there.
  9. How much does Misha know abut his father? He knows he is a travel agent in the US. Does he know Phillip is a spy? Or does he think Phillip got out and defected? Does he know where in the US? Or is he just going to start on the east coast and work his way west asking random travel agents if he's his dad? I imagine in 1984 that would take a little more than a few days. Anyone else surprised at Phillip's disgust at Pasha's father's criticism of the Soviet Union? Phillip always seems to have level headed, "hey both have their good points and bad points" attitude. But he seemed to take real offense at that the talk of the food lines. I almost wonder if the William affair made him realize that they may have to go "home" sooner rather than later, and he is steeling himself up for that.
  10. Did anyone else think there was a scene missing when Brodie suddenly started yelling at Francatelli? I figured there must be something missing. I loved the budding bromance between Albert and Peele. I hope we see more of that. Albert needs friends who are no in the palace.
  11. Maybe we need to get someone to report that every last on of those 3 million illegal votes was for Trump, and they were cast in Florida, Wisconsin, Michigan, and Pennsylvania. Therefor he's not really President.
  12. Except that is exactly what happened with their Great Great Grandmother, Queen Victoria. She married Prince Albert of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha, she took his name, and the royal house changed from Hanover to Saxe-Coburg and Gotha. That was then changed to Windsor during WWI to separate the family from its German name. The problem is there are so few precedents for this situation. But it was well within reason for him to expect his name to at least attach to his children. He still could have handled it better though.
  13. One of the things I don't understand about the downstairs staff is why they all came over from Kensington Palace. Presumably Buckingham had a significant staff when His Majesty the King died. Did they all die with him? Were they just buried with him? I get the lady's maids/dressers would have come along, but I imagine the rest would have stayed at Kensington, since they would still be needed there. And clearly most of these people are not ready to play the palace yet. Other than the downstairs drama, I am enjoying this series, and this episode was no exception. I like the relationship between Victoria and Albert, particularly that he is more than willing to challenge her, which is needed. It will be fun to see that continue. Hopefully he will lose sometimes too. I can't help but compare Albert to Phillip in The Crown, and it is interesting that they both face many of the same problems of being a consort to the female sovereign in a male dominated world. Hopefully Albert handles it differently than, well better, than Phillip did.
  14. When I grow up, I wanna be Mrs. Hudson. I love the little layers that are periodically lifted off her.
  15. I've noticed it has gotten particularly bad this season it seems. Every single show has to be extended by a minute across every network. For a second there, I thought we were going to get Eleanore's reveal to Micheal. Alas, all we got was a bulbous dog.
  16. Yes. He forgot about the melon baller. I love Leslie Jordan. He makes everything better. For a second, when he walked in, I thought it was Zelda Rubenstein back from the dead. I do so hope he proclaims "This house is clean" at some point.
  17. Part of me wishes they didn't announce Baldwin as Trump before hand. The best part of Larry David's first appearance as Bernie, for me at least, was the first few seconds when you think "Wait, is that Larry David? That's perfect casting!"
  18. My favorite was something about starting a social media post and then realizing that nobody cares about your thoughts on David Bowie's death. And "telling a woman to smile" losing you points. That made me wonder if they made additions recently based on recent events.
  19. So since we are 2 weeks out now, my on screen guide lists the show as "American Horror Story: The Mist-Chapter 1". There is no episode description though. My theory for a while has been classic Hollywood horror movies. I can't decide if this supports that, or disproves it. Or maybe it will change in the next few weeks.
  20. I wonder if it could be generational. I know what a "Magic Marker" is, but I cannot say I have ever used the term. I know it because teachers and other adults used it when I was a kid, oh so many years ago. I honestly cannot say say when the last time I heard the term magic marker though.
  21. I think one of reasons it took so long to get "Obama" to appear on SNL was that much of the Primary season was lost to the show because of the 2007-08 WGA Strike. They lost probably 3 or 4 months there. The real Obama did appear in a Halloween sketch as himself in an Obama mask. I don't remember there being 500 debates before the Primaries that year, but I may be looking back with rose colored glasses, before the dark times. That of course does not excuse Fred's terrible, horrible, no good, very bad impression.
  22. I wonder if they will do 4 episodes in October, take a week off, and then be on for the weekend before and after the Election. If you time it that way, they would do 3 in November, being off for Thanksgiving. Or they can do 3 and 3, and have 2 weeks off at Thanksgiving. I know they don't like doing 4 eps in a row, but there is some precedence in elections years. I seem to remember them doing it in 2008. Of course they also started on Sept. 13th. Maybe they need time to get the white guy clones just right.
  23. Do we low for certain if Jay was let go, or did he ask to leave?
  24. Actually they could have Beck play both VP Candidates. Just switch out ties. Carvey did it in 1992 when he was both Bush and Perot. I think they filmed and green-screened in Perot for the debate. Another idea, have Trump show up for the VP debate and do all the talking, ala the 60 Minutes interview. Maybe have "Pence cower behind him like a scared puppy. (For some reason I am picturing Jon Hamm and Micheal Buble in the Hamm and Buble sketch)
  25. And here, I thought the easy answer for the Batman question was "Bat Pole." I'll show myself out now.
