IIt may not be realistic, but it is reality, that in the beginning an ex would feel that way. I thought is was completely normal that she would say that. She's seeing her entire world being compromised and disappearing. So yeah, she's going to try to hang on to what she can of "normal." Whether or not it's reasonable, well, she's not thinking reasonably. At some point, the kids will have to accept the new woman into their lives, and to be healthy about it, the ex-wife will have to accommodate that. But in the beginning, yeah, she might make that demand...eventually, depending on how long the new relationship lasts, she'll have to accept it or make her kids choose between a relationship with their father and his new wife, or a relationship with her, and that's not a great thing to do to the kids.

I loved the first episode, thanks to whoever said it was available. I think Maura Tierney did an excellent job with her POV. And it did seem to represent what I felt when my husband left, and what many of my friends felt when they went through the experience. I loved the scene at the ballet school where the women were talking about the breakup and also the woman asking her afterwards if she suspected. The line about "rainbows shooting out of his dick" was pretty great. In my experience (of knowing many many people who have gone through this) the husband/wife is usually completely surprised by their spouses having affairs. So Helen is in the grieving process, and it's a long process...she and Noah were married a long time AND have 4 kids so I expect to see her spiral a bit more. I thought the dinner table scene with the kids was great. Divorce is not fun, and when Dad runs away to be with somebody else, it's usually Mom who's left to try and mend the pieces and also try to give the kids some stability. In Noah's perspective the kids are being kept from him, in Helen's perspective, Noah has no time for them. Like most dads, he's willing to spend time taking them to ball games, etc, but he's not interested in 'parenting.' At least, they haven't shown him trying to do that, yet. I guess what I really enjoy about the show is that it portrays very well what people experience when an affair happens. Looking forward to Cole's POV next week.

maybe it's in sign language? That's why the Tardis can't translate it? Not spoken. I liked this episode a lot. I enjoyed the scene with Clara and the notecards and wasn't offended one whit by it. The "ghosts" are properly scary (unlike the Daleks) and my attention was kept through the entire show. Looking forward to next week. However, there is a HUGE difference in the way we are being shown the Doctor and Clara this season. I just rewatched Listen, and I loved the dialogue between Clara and the Doctor, and the whole story. Of course, we'll never get an explanation for Orson (or will we?) because it seems that yet again there is tinkering with Clara's arc. And I am totally agreed on Clara's wardrobe so far this season. Last season, she was adorable in everything she wore. People were searching for her clothes online to buy them. Doubt they will this season. Count me out as someone who would ever want to see Donna back. Too much screeching for my taste.

Here's one answer: http://www.blastr.com/2014-8-13/theres-story-behind-ring-peter-capaldi-will-wear-doctor-who and another http://www.express.co.uk/celebrity-news/502153/Peter-Capaldi-Doctor-Who-ring-is-packed-with-meaning or this one: About the New Costume: Asked by fans about the inclusion of a wedding ring to the Doctor’s gear, Capaldi teased us saying “you don’t even know if Time Lords wear their wedding ring on the human ring finger”! He continued to explain that the ring was made up of both his own wedding ring and a jeweled band specially made for his costume, stating that the “Main reason is that he really hates taking it off, especially filming in Cardiff for 8 months straight as the risk of it getting lost is far too high.” He stressed that “It would very literally break my heart if it got lost. I worked with the costume designer quite intently to seek a disguising ring to almost cover for it to go over my original ring with a jewel, so my actual wedding ring can’t be seen. Interestingly enough when Mark Gatiss invited me to the set of An Adventure in Space and Time I went on the same day as William Hartnell’s granddaughter, who had shown me the ring he wore in the early episodes -- and while I was tempted I thought it might be to up front to ask for the actual prop to wear in my series.” from http://www.doctorwhotv.co.uk/review-an-audience-with-peter-capaldi-jenna-coleman-65393.htm

I dunno, sounds to me like he regrets them getting together as a couple. -

Agreed. One of the things I liked most about the original series is that the CC claimed that he never wanted a romantic relationship between the two leads, that their relationship was something deeper than that. So I was pretty unhappy when the show went there because I felt like he was caving in to the fans, instead of telling the story he had wanted to tell and had originally set up. So this news is pretty interesting to me. -
Watch A New Trailer For The Reboot Of The X-Files

Um, didn't Smoking Man die? This looks pretty good...yay! -
He totally sold it and totally believed it. It's along the line of when he says he's going to google search something (like how to attract kids with candy) that he has no idea about one of it's meanings. Most people would think about it the way the audience does, but the comedy comes from the character not realizing what he's saying. I did enjoy this episode. I felt rather sad that Amy was not shown having any fun, just as a morose person. Next week looks like she'll get to lighten up a little. And a determined Sheldon was pretty interesting to me. Loved him trying to make her jealous. I hope it's leading to some more character development for him to where he better understands putting someone else's needs ahead of his own, but I hope they don't change him too much. I don't think Sheldon is aware that it's a sexual reference, at least the right-hand thing.

I was unimpressed with this episode. Sigh. As has been said before, the sound editing is awful and you have to rewatch several times to get all of the dialogue. Which really ruins the viewing experience. I like Clara, and I thought she did a good job of realizing, again, that she couldn't really trust Missy's intentions. I, too, hoped for a callback to the Oswin episode. Not sure how that would have worked, in the timeline and all, but would have been interesting. The daleks rather bore me (never have scared me) and all the back and forth conversation between the Doctor and Davros was hard to listen to. I hope they are on a proper adventure next week. Count me in as not a fan of the sonic sunglasses. I want the screwdriver back. So, in summation, there were bits and pieces of the each episode that I enjoyed but never did I feel that it was cohesively a good story. Maybe my opinion will change over time (and the course of this series) but for now, not one of the good ones.

I dunno, I don't think Andy gaining weight was supposed to be funny, per se, but just a way of showing that he was not happy in his current relationship. Sometimes people do gain weight because they are unhappy. It was supposed to be a sign that maybe she should have stopped him from proposing. I rarely get offended by comedy shows. I find it surprising how often that seems to happen, especially with a show like Modern Family that is so popular. I think the writers for network comedy shows write for pretty broad audiences. Cable comedy is a different matter.

I really enjoy the Haley and Andy story, I think the show has done a really good job of showing Haley realizing she's attracted to a guy who is quite different from the usual guys she's been attracted to. They did an episode where she had to take over for her dad's master of ceremonies at a real estate convention, and she was great. I love it when the show does a slight twist on a character and you see more than the 2-dimensions they had been given previously. I do like Dylan, but I definitely want to see the Andy-Haley story play out. One of my favorite shows, and I really did enjoy this first episode, although, I felt bad for the chicken.

Well, I never thought of him as successful, wasn't he always struggling and poor, even though he owned the store? Like, it really didn't bring in the money for him. He's always played pitiful pretty well. I still like him. Thought it was pretty funny he would try to move in on either Amy or Penny, like he stood a chance. The actor really got the right tone for me. Haha. Not sure about Sheldon actually being ready to propose, as they really haven't shown him moving that direction, except for the blanket fort episode and Amy spending the night. Amy's always been the one wanting more, seeing him in a different light from the others. So I thought his sudden desire to propose was out of character. Still like the show, love the characters, and hope we aren't going for another Penny and Leonard breakup.

I swear it's Jessica's voice on the radio ad for Uber that I hear all the time. Sounds exactly like her.

Well, I've felt that way about a number of episodes, but usually on a rewatch, my opinion changes. Some that I didn't like at all on first view, I find I enjoy so much more on the second and third rewatch.

I guess it's a matter of taste, because I found much of the Davies era to be too noisy and non-compelling and rather gimmicky. There were exceptions to the rule (Human Nature, Family of Blood) but many of those episodes are just unwatchable for me. My personal most favorite episode, Blink, was written by Moffat and filmed during Davies' run. And while I liked Vincent and the Doctor, I loved Amy's Choice, The Lodger, The Doctor's Wife, and think they are excellent examples of telling a great story. I rather like having an arc in the story-telling that runs through the season. I have enjoyed many of the episodes from Capaldi's turn as the doctor, Listen was my favorite from last year, and a close second was Flatline. Also enjoyed the Caretaker. What I find to be true with ALL of the episodes, though, is that I have to rewatch them multiple times, to get the most enjoyment out of them.

I think she was using that as a joke, or for emphasis, because the Doctor sounds Scottish. Like overemphasizing the sounds?

Okay, thanks for clarifying the policy on this show's discussion thread. I'll try to stay outta here til I've watched the show.

Not certain, but i think your post belongs in spoilers until the episode airs in U.S.? Maybe not. I'll try to resist reading it til after 10pm tonight here.

I think Lenny had chipped the dog because he's purebred and because most vets suggest doing it when you get a puppy. He alerted the vets in the area after Elliot took the dog, because he wanted to track Elliot down. He could still do all of this and not be a great dog owner.
