Joy and Austin: This One Time At Family Camp
Temperance replied to frenchtoast's topic in Counting On
I'd congratulate the kid and not the parents on the graduation. Also I lost quite a few people before 90 or 100 through no fault of their own. There's a lot of luck involved in long life and I would be careful a lot of people will be easily offended on that. I think a lot of times congratulations is used as synonym for happy. Congrats on your birthday versus Happy birthday! -

I have several people I know who can have the exact same look on their face, including one person who reminds of both Michelle and Kelly Bates. -

But Jill is a girl. They were supposed to be marrying men who could support them. Jill, Jinger, and Joy all married men who at least have some potential (Austin's house flipping) to support a wife and family. Plus I think there's a double standard in terms of it's okay for the man to be more worldly, but the woman has to be very sheltered young girl. -
I've known other Christian families who also believed this about themselves.

That's basically what the Bates were doing before they became a family on tv tm. It makes me think he's a full-on Gothardite, since one of Bill Gothard's biggest principles was a "man should work for himself". Gothard encouraged his followers to be entrepenuers and most of them went into fields like lawn services. The point of this was to make the man "king of his domain" etc., give him more time for his family, and keep the husband/family from evil outside influences at work. Josiah seems to have found the in-laws, who are most like his parents so far. -

Exactly! I had read this about Dwain before. He sounds exactly like a grown-up Ben or Jeremy. Note though he's connected to/likes ATI (Bill Gothard's homeschooling program). -
He built it on the city dump, so he certainly didn't expect to sell that house. No idea if he wanted to clutter the property with little houses, but yes I think the idea was there would family members living on the property into long perpetuity possibly forever. It would take only one married kid with at least five or six little ones to ensure the family would remain there for several generations.

19 kids minus the 6 marrieds and JD is 12. Michelle and JB are two more making 14. Tyler would be 15. So .....16 ..... would be Lauren?

That makes more sense if a) someone in their senior years, or b)a woman is young and widowed with a ton of kids. So far all three married parent Duggars get lots of help with their kids. i.e. leaving them at TTH with Aunt Jana. Imagine anyone of them being left with their brood to manage. Or someone with more kids, since they're quiverfull. or c) the Duggar kids seem pretty equally to have skills and education, but a lot of fundie families probably train and spend more training their boys to have skills since they need to support the family but the girls are given less formal education to be housewives. -

Thanks! I should have known. Kendra's sister looks like just like Kendra, and that must be Lauren Swanson above. I agreed a courtship with Kendra's sister seemed possible. I wonder if the Duggars would have the same qualms about family members with the same name as the Maxwells. @Yukibear good to know, I find it hard to believe having more kids will help you live longer. Maybe in terms of keeping your DNA on the planet. One of my friends is convinced Michelle must have serious medical problems from having so many kids (she brings it up any time I mention the Duggars). Anyway JB and Michelle are in their early 50s. Start making that claim a few years into your 80s. -

Isn't Kendra's sister Lauren? Is this her or a different Lauren? Edited to add: It could easily be a different Lauren as it was a very popular name in '80s, '90s and '00s. I've knowns tons of Laurens, and one season of The Bachelor had four Laurens. -
Bill Gothard was accused of many women of molesting them. According to Wikipedia, it's as high as 34 different women have made allegations of Gothard harrassing them. The women seem to have filed allegations in smaller groups, but there are quite a lot of them. Considering Gothard's beliefs of "eye traps" and being "defrauded", the culture seems to spread the blame towards women. Its' possible that more women who've had bad experiences with Gothard and don't feel they can come forward.

It'll be harder to have the whole family from AR to Texas in 30 minutes. Gregorian chants are way too Catholic for Jeremy or the Duggars. And I rather she was in a hospital. I agree I hope Michelle isn't there.

No, I think that's Gabby as this was labeled Gabby and Drew's baby shower. It doesn't look like Jessa to me. -

I don't see Jessa. -
Gabby Giffords owns a gun and has gone back to the shooting range. She would have no problem with Jin's photo. Although obviously they need to keep their guns in a safe, secure place. Especially since they are now having small humans.

Most of the donations I saw were diapers and baby themed items. yes someone gave her that pegboard key/purse rack. She got a vest and two of the bedding items she registered for. As for the people who donated things, it's hard to say why they donated. Some may have felt sorry for her. Some may have wanted to go somewhere and an excuse to buy baby things. Some may just have had things lying around the house and wanted to get rid of them. For example somebody may been gifted the white vest, decided they never wear it, and gave it to Jill.

It would be more impressive if the song was Italian instead of a British/American pop song translated into Italian. It's what the Italian guy sang. Ed Sheeran sings "well I found a woman", but the Italian singer sings "Sie la mia donna". So that is correct.
-
Could he only write out the first line in Italian or did he think his fans wouldn't able to recognize Ed Sheeran's Perfect without the hint?

and all those pregnancy announcements... Maybe Anna will bring out Mason?

That was from before Jill and Derick were married. He was working for Walmart. Obviously things have changed in almost four years. -
That was the Bates family. I was reading up about them at FJ.
-
I seem to remember Gothard was on their old show.
-
I could any number of Duggars picking Selah for a girl (including Kendra or Joy) It's seems to be really popular among fundies. It was Jill's pick for Israel if he was a girl, but she could either repeat or pick something else.

I wanted to wish everyone a Happy Epiphany/Three Kings' Day/Twelth Night. Sorry if it's a little late, but it is today (1/6). I also want to wish those for whom this isn't part of your religion or tradition. Happy Saturday!
