  1. Of course it's a generalization and not specific. But I do believe you are in the minority. SOME people who don't connect with ringers will use stuff like too polished as a reason. Really didn't mean to imply ALL people are the same. Oftentimes when SOME have interest sparked in the non-ringer celeb, for some reason they feel they have to state the reasons why they can't support the ringer? Really never understood why they feel they have to down one celeb to justify their choice in another? That's really what DWTS is counting on--being invested in a favorite. From recent seasons, I think of James and Nyle seasons. The ringer won one and lost one. But the fandoms were tough on the boards. I just hope they'll be able to find a couple of ringers for each season. In that way, the early weeks will have some good performances until the teaching sets in.
  2. Yes. When people don't support ringers, they bring out the no improvement arc, too polished, phony etc. They just really have another favorite. So they try to make the ringer look like an undeserving person. Ringers like Kristi, Shawn, Jennifer, Alfonso, Laurie and Meryl just had the fanbase. I think Nicole was the only ringer to sway voters in a positive direction? But there's been twice as many ringers (if not more) who didn't make it. People always found something to complain about to keep from supporting them. It's a reality show. It's all about getting more people to support your favorite and withdraw from someone else's favorite. But some fans go overboard.
  3. I think that's one of the reasons that he PROBABLY won't win. They let the disney-celebs go far but no wins.
  4. Jordan is the best this season. But I think most people figured him for 2nd or 3rd in the beginning. The best dancer normally doesn't win especially if the celeb is male. Pretty skimpy season compared to last season but Jordan is a joy to watch, hand and all. I didn't like Lindsey in the first week but she has gotten better, or, maybe I just like Mark's choreography? It just looks like she's become better at controlling her limbs. Where's that Paige tango? People rave about Frankie but Nikki is my surprise celeb. Artem is doing such a great job with her. This was not a good week for Frankie. Hopefully, he doesn't have another. Vanessa is very good. She's just not one of my favorites. Also thought TO made people "get their popcorn ready" because he did really well in the jive. Victoria and Drew can go at anytime. My favorites this week: Jordan, Lindsey, Nikki, TO. The others are interchangeable. I know Vanessa is a lot better. I just don't prefer her.
  5. I think Alfonso was the only male to win when he was the best dancer for the season? Probably based more on "favorite" than "best". But, there are also a couple more non-DWTS traits tied to Jordan--male in early 20s and he's part of Disney. I'd be surprised if he won.
  6. Agree. I don't think the lack of lifts took from the dance. In that way, it reminded me of Lacey/Kyle's AT. It was a good dance. If you like Frankie, the performance didn't hurt him. But, had he been able to do a clean spectacular lift, it would've added to the enjoyment of the dance. And not only would the current supporters be pleased, but he probably would've garnered more. The viewers like proper lifts. I THINK that's one of the reasons why DWTS viewers don't mind contemporary on the show. I guess the lifts equal strong. I know there's more than just the male strength but I think that's what it represent to the average viewer.
  7. Mandy didn't even include the Kiki/Koine salsa. I guess she thought it was an accident waiting to happen? Then they included the Logan contemporary that Allison got hurt doing? They should've taken the Dee one. But maybe they changed that arm-pull move. Thanks again.
  8. Thanks mimib101. Quite a list. I'm surprised they don't have a Kiki/Syd routine as well. But they packed in a lot.
  9. After watching the clips, I'm surprised neither of you talked about Aston? It looked like he performed best. Every since I saw Debbie Allen perform at the Obama white house, kicking her leg up and all, I'm not surprised that an older dancer can still do it. I just hope Debbie can hold out. I wonder if Brendan is going to respond one way or another about the rise and fall in his and Charlotte's tango? If he agrees, will he give a public apology, like Maks? SCD cast looks a lot more entertaining than DWTS this time. There are quite a few who are very good. When the judges on a reality dance show talk about sickle feet, you know they have a good cast.
  10. Anyone have a tour setlist? They've performed in about 3 venues already. I saw a little clip of one of the performances. It looked like Logan and someone were doing his African Jazz? Surely he's not doing that many routines. So I'm a little surprised they chose the AJ especially when Marko is part of the tour group. So Marko and Koine have to be doing their AJ. And, Still I Rise has to be there. Just a little curious about which one of the routines were taken.
  11. Didn't Koine also have a little pop&lock duo with Dassy in the Top 9 group routines? It was enough to tell she was comfortable with hip hop..
  12. Thanks Tikichick. I wish him the best as well. I knew he must've been a troubled young man when Denise? (the mother) said Danny wanted to do the show because of how he perceived Travis' journey. Not because he wanted the challenged.
  13. The judges started off knocking Danny about not being able to relate and the like. I guess they felt the audience would still see how good he was and vote for him. After the third performance, they believed them. Nigel just kept saving him and acted like he didn't know what Danny was doing wrong. Then Nigel went overboard the other way. So Danny didn't hit bottom again after T10. He didn't win because Nigel let everyone know about a girl winner. I haven't seen Nigel down a favorite like that since. He uses the OTT praise. I guess they don't want to run the risk of them hitting bottom. That's what I meant when I said they learned their lesson. I was referring to the stage persona.
  14. I agree with most of this. I can't say Kiki stole Logan's place. I believe the judges/TPTB constant pimping helped Kiki but it helped Taylor and Lex too. I also think Kiki had a great fanbase--PROBABLY dwts influence. During F4-voting, Kiki ended in 4th place. The show was still spinning for him. What happened? DWTS started. Let's face it on these reality shows, it's best to have the large fanbase instead of the best talent. But that's what fuels reality TV--the unexpected. MAYBE that's why sytycd ratings keep going down. Since S8, you know the winner by auditions?
  15. People differ. I loved most of Logan's routines. It's a joy to watch him. Whereas I think Allison had her best performance in the Dee number, I don't think she outshone Logan. I think he's a great partner and a great dancer. Since you didn't like any of Logan's routines, I can see you comparing him to Jeanine. I didn't like most of Jeanine's routines even the ones with Brandon, and I love Brandon. I even thought the Travis contemporary was amateurish but they performed it great. I thought that Russian thing was a joke but they took it on tour as a group. I guess Jeanine had to have something since she won. And I remember Jeanine as being the weak link in the trio with Kayla and Melissa. I only liked a couple of her solos. Yet, she won??? So I chalked it up to the fact that I just didn't prefer Jeanine. The only Kaylee routine I liked was the shadow. I loved Kiki's salsa as well and his contemporary with Jenna. I loved both of Lex's bwys, Taylor jazz and the Gaby's hip hop. I guess I like Lex better in jazz than contemporary. I loved Taylor's first contemporary as well and her jazz with Lex.. Koine is different. I think I just prefer her. I think Koine elevated a lot of her routines. Loved her performances. But of her routines, I liked the salsa, AJ, Lex's bwy, and hanger contemporary.
  16. I wasn't annoyed that Logan didn't get a reprisal but I was surprised. Once they gave Robert and Dassy one, I was sure they would give Kaylee/Logan the shadow dance--but was Travis there? Or, let he and Allison redo the hip hop. Two of my favorites. Dee and Brian weren't there. So I knew they wouldn't do those numbers. And I figured they would do the Cheeseman group. So the AJ was out as well. I even tried to figure which one of Sydney's and Mark's were they going to reprise? I loved all of Logan's performances and most of his routines. He's the type of dancer who elevates a routine. In comparison to the F4, I loved most of their routines and some of their performances.
  17. On the AfterBuzz interview, Mary Murphy revealed some of her thoughts to Becky Sattero. Mary said none of them were surprised that Lex won because he was such a high level technical dancer, never hit bottom and could do some things that they hadn't seen before. Then she said something that got me thinking. She said they were worried about his personality. I guess that's why they kept pushing him down our throats. Always "washing over" his faults. They felt he was the best and they wanted to make sure he won. I guess they learned their lesson from Danny, S3. But they went too far. I think Lex would've won without their manipulation because he had such a large fanbase. But we'll never know.
  18. That's fine. Lex is a versatile dancer since he's ballet trained, tap trained, hip hop trained and maybe more. But the only style that should count in the sytycd versatility portion is hip hop. And some other requirements are ballroom and partner work. For me, the winner should be the one who performed/executed best during the competition period, in and out of the comfort zone. People shouldn't have to remember that last year, the dancer won the best so and so, or, during the auditions, he/she had the best solos etc. In football, the Patriots went 18-0 one year but lost the super bowl. That year's team is still considered to be the best that year. But they didn't prove it during the competition period (super bowl). People still respect them. They just didn't get the hardware. If performing best during the competition period is not a requirement, TPTB should just do like WoD and decide who they want to win. In that way, they can stop the audience manipulation. If there are requirements, they should judge accordingly. Some people prefer ballroom training. Others prefer contemporary, jazz or hip hop. None should rank higher than the other when it comes to sytycd competition. But people still weigh ballet/contemporary training higher, even the judges. I could see that for some jobs like bwy but not the sytycd competition.
  19. Nigel s/b proud. His 3 main picks made it. He shouldn't be upset that Taylor didn't make 2nd. He shouldn't get everything that he scripted. At least give us the excitement of trying to select the other placements. Otherwise, there would be no need to watch the show period. Just watch the clips for enjoyment. I had picked Lex for the winner and Kiki to remain in the game even before seeing them perform. The connections were too great to ignore. Not saying they aren't talented; just obvious chosen ones. You knew the show would slant, rationalize, OTT etc to ensure they would remain in the game. The audience did kinda think for themselves because they picked Koine over Taylor and Kiki. Personally, based on her performances during the competition, in and out of her comfort zone, I'd say Koine should've been the winner. But she did good to knock out Taylor and Kiki. Lex was pimped but he had a great fanbase as well because they stayed with him through the ballroom routines. The rationalization from some is so what if he's not good in ballroom, partnering or lifts, he is the best dancer.
  20. She was pimped at first. It's just that Kiki, Taylor and Lex were pimped throughout.
  21. Manipulation paid off!! Lex/Taylor duet got >100K youtube views. 2nd & 3rd duets were Lex routines at >60K. 4th and 5th were Taylor duets (albeit the 5th was with Robert). But only >40K views. Just think about how many tweens followed that up with votes. I THINK everyone knew Lex would win but I think the Mia routine may have helped Taylor come in 2nd.
  22. I loved seasons 1-7 but 4 was different for me. And I'm glad that Mia loved S4 as well. Season 1 had so much randomness/freshness. Season 5 was the versatile contemporary dancers answer to the Season 4 versatile hip hoppers. Season 6 was hampered with the fall schedule. But they tried to elevate the tappers. Season 7 was the use of all stars. Execution was so good. After S7, I just watch because the dancers are so talented. The game isn't played the same--best versatile dancer who performed during the competition period. You know the chosen one by audition. Then I play the game of seeing who else TPTB want in the F4.
  23. Agree. They blamed Jessica for anything going wrong in their (Will/Jessica) performances. Will hated it so that he took up for her during the critique. Mia even made a statement about her core not being strong. Then we found out about the rib. She was so underrated. They tried to down her Olisa & Cicely hip hop. I thought this was one of her better performances. But she got the last laugh since Silence won the Emmy. Olisa & Cicely were also new choreographers during this season. They didn't last. I THINK because Nigel didn't appreciate the beauty of their art. He preferred NappyTabs style and the viewers loved the contemporary-type hip hop as well.
  24. Anothermi answered your question. I remember the season as the "hip hop" season because of the unusual number of hip hop dancers--Josh, tWitch, Comfort, Gev; others were good at hip hop as well Mark, Courtney, Will, Chelsea T. The cast was such a great versatile group with loads of personality. They did latin and ballroom, if they stayed long enough. They all looked like they got along. When they switched partners, there was still chemistry. The choreography was so good. Or, the dancers elevated the routines. This was the 1st season for NappyTabs and Nakul (bollywood). Unfortunately, this was when Doriana became disco-lift heavy. I guess she started salivating when she saw the strength in the guys? This group of males even brought Nigel out to choreograph. Josh won but he wasn't the chosen one. Mark even surprised TPTB by making T6 despite TPTB giving him an awful 2-step in the T10. tWitch was TPTB choice and I think Will was second. So you were invested til the end because voters weren't as gullible. Or, maybe it's because TPTB didn't start pushing their favorite during the audition process until S8 with Melanie? It was just an entertaining and fun season. But there were too many dances per couple, I think (7 before they made T10). It took it's toll physically. So I'm glad they didn't keep this up. But I wish they would go back to requiring ballroom--waltz, QS, foxtrot or something. So what if people don't vote for them. The judges can save the couple, if they think they performed well. Just don't use ballroom to eliminate the non-chosen ones. ETA: I think this was the first season for Dwight & Desmond as well?
