  1. Thought the group routine was the best so far. Probably Safe - Tanisha/Rudy had an energetic/good routine, got the pimp spot, performed well and played up the Jacque angle. But it wasn't a SO because there were technique issues. Zack/Jacque had a cute routine but it was too simplistic for these dancers. She's playing up Rudy and Zack is just good. Ricky/Valerie were not good. I liked the routine but if another couple had performed it like they did, Nigel'em would've been way harsh. But they ended the comments by letting everyone know how great they are. Probably B3 - Marcquet wasn't as bad as Nigel tried to make him out to be. Afterall, he isn't contemporary and he had a Dee routine. His routines need a strong accomplished contemporary dancer like Ade. But Nigel went to great lengths to ensure he'd be in the bottom next week. Brooklyn did her best. Her partner really didn't try to bring her into his world. But Nigel's "lack of maturity" comment should place her in the bottom. Casey was good. He looked like he was doing a solo. I liked the routine. They just didn't perform it well. Plus he's been in the B3 before. Jessica should be there because they spent loads of time on her expressions. But the WCS didn't put her in the bottom??? IFFY - Anya and Pasha choreographed a pleasing/easy routine for Emilio/Bridget. Bridget was good. The judges tried to convince us to ignore Emilio's lack of technique. He even brought FikShun up. They've both been in the bottom. Surprised about Emilio. I thought he would've had a stronger fanbase. Emily/Teddy were good. I guess Emily should've been since it's her genre. But someone has to be in the B3 and she's been there before. OTOH, Teddy must have a strong fanbase and he was surprisingly competent. He must have a tremendous amount of training. Carly/Serge had the "makeup" routine for the night. It was a good routine. Carly was getting into it but Serge just couldn't get it. Misty reminded everyone how hard it is to go to different genres (they didn't use this for anyone else though). Mary tried to convince us that she thought it was performed well. I think they're afraid that Serge will hit bottom. So they're trying to save him.
  2. Exactly. I agree. TBH, if an audience likes you, it doesn't matter. Everything you do will be great. They'll see chemistry where there is none because they've already created an image. But if they need time to warm up to you, it does. You'll have to jump through hoops before they'll give in. And then it may be too late. There are a lot of people who would use it to a dancer's detriment. This is where I was talking about chemistry as well. You can have chemistry with your partner but the viewer's perception may be skewed because they are looking side-eyed. I can see if you don't like their personalities but using their sexual orientation against them is unfair. And unlike people on the boards, people vote more on performance/personality than they do technical excellence. I remember the Rock Hudson's story as the audience thinking he was straight until his later years. By that time, you were either a Rock Hudson fan or not.
  3. I've always thought the show plays down the sexuality so that the routines/couplings can be romanticized. The more this happens, the more votes and viewers they get. The more votes and viewers, the better for the dancers and show. They kinda let Sasha's out especially with the paso. She danced her heart out but people claimed they didn't see the chemistry she had with her partners, except tWitch. They excused it because she wasn't into men anyway. I know she ended up second but I believe she was nowhere near Melanie in votes.
  4. Canadians may like "real" hip hop as a whole. But most times, didn't Canada sytycd contestants end up B3 after their hip hop routines; kinda like our contestants after a ballroom routine? Maybe he waters it down in hopes of helping the contestants. For instance, Benji shouldn't have been so ambitious for the WCS. With the dancers size and ability, they didn't have a chance to make the WCS appealing. Maybe Luther is trying to avoid this from happening with one of his routines.
  5. Per Lacey's tweet - "Lacey Schwimmer @LaceySchwimmer · 5h I am SO excited to announce I will be choreographing for @DANCEonFOX #SYTYCD for the first time! So thankful for this opportunity!" Lacey has stated that jive is her favorite ballroom dance. I think she'll get Serge. Praised for the cha cha, emotional contemp then a lively jive should firm up his fanbase. At least, TPTB probably hope so. Marcquet seem to be a Nigel favorite and Mary said he didn't do well in the auditions. So I don't think he'll get her. Anyone else and they're trying to land them in the B3. Marcquet has said he wants hip hop. But with Jourdan as a partner, I think his main role will be to help her look good--kinda like Ade and Melissa. Really can't see Jourdan looking good in hip hop. But then, neither did Emily or Bridget but they praised them. People always say they want less of the emotional contemp. But when everything is over, the emotional contemp is either the favorite routine of the night or close to the top. So I can see why the choreographers fall back on it so much. They're trying to help save their dancers.
  6. I didn't think that Jourdan/Marcquet had the best routine. But, I disagree that he wasn't sharp or didn't complete his movements. His sharp movements vs her fluid style is what I didn't like about the routine. I think the goal of this routine was to highlight Jourdan in a positive light because of her disaster in her own style. After seeing the B3 girls, they probably had decided to cut Malene. Thus, the sexy broadway where the female really needs flexibility to sell the routine. But, they also had to make Jourdan and Brooklyn look good as well so that the cut wouldn't be so bad. Thus, Sean focusing on her legs and using Marcquet's partnering ability to enhance them. And, giving Brooklyn the M&L tango which is hard for a ballroom dancer to make look bad. I THINK Misty was talking about in the beginning of the routine when Marquet was sitting in the chair and Jourdan had him around the head. He rolled his eyes back then. I guess he was going for someone losing conscientiousness. I guess Misty thought he went too far with it. Didn't she say something like he took it too seriously?
  7. I agree that Malene wouldn't have been voted off if there was still the second night because she was so much better in her first routine than Brooklyn or Jourdan. They probably never wanted Malene in the bottom 3 especially after all the praise they gave her. But if she hits bottom with a stellar performance and they know she's not the most flexible dancer nor performed well in hip hop during auditions, they probably felt it's best to cut her now. Nigel shouldn't have used the words that he did but I understood he was basing the decision on her dancing ability that they had seen. They were just hoping the voters would like her enough to keep her. An earlier poster mentioned Allison and Ivan's WCS because it didn't have the lifts and tricks. Personally, I didn't like that routine. It was too bland.
  8. Agree. I love WCS but it has to be longer than 90 seconds to "wow" someone without the lifts and tricks. I was hoping that Nick could pull it off since he's so use to partnering but he's so small. Maybe a Marcquet and Jessica coupling would've been better for WCS? Pasha had the size over Sara to pull off the lifts and tricks effortlessly. So they could perform/enjoy the grooving style in between. Nick and Jessica were just happy to get through the routine.
  9. Enjoyed this episode. I don't expect every show to have outstanding choreography or enjoyable music. So I won't down the show because I want it back next season, warts and all. But because there were no standout routines, I focused more on the dancers and none of the couples elevated the routines. The only couplings that looks interesting (physically and chemistry wise) are Zack/Jacque and Serge/Carly. Maybe the shorter girls are still bigger than the shorter boys? In either case, I would prefer to see Ricky with Tanisha since he can't have Jessica. She's really a contemporary girl anyway. Ricky's going to be around a while. So at least make his a pleasing coupling. Jourdan and Marcquet dance interpretations are too different to look good together. Couldn't really tell about the hip hop boys because the girls were awful in hip hop. So I couldn't get past that. Rudy will be Rudy whoever he gets. You either like him or not. Casey doesn't grab me. So it doesn't matter about his partner. And Stanley lost his partner but I love his style of dance. So far, my top 6 hopes are--Ricky (assured) and Stanley for contemp; Marcquet (almost assured) and Serge for ballroom; Zack for tap and Emilio for hip hop. Jacque for ballet; Valerie for tap; Tanisha (almost assured) for ballroom; Jessica (assured) for jazz; Carly and Emily for contemp.
  10. I hope Brooklyn has a strong fanbase. Both Mary and Nigel had negatives for her. Mary also pointed out Marcquet's jive during the auditions (that no one saw). I guess she had to use something because he was really good tonight. Then Nigel made sure to butt in during Mary's time to praise only Malena. So Marcquet needs a fanbase as well. Rudy's technique was not good but then it wasn't good during auditions. Mary and Nigel know this. That's why he got the gentle negative comments. They want him to stay awhile but they can't ignore technique. They were very disappointed in the ballet girls. I don't know why because they didn't audition as classical ballet? They are really pulling for Serge, Malena, Tanisha and Nick. They LOVE Ricky and Jessica. Mary quietly loves Stanley and Emily. I guess because Nigel hasn't really been definitive about them yet. The tappers appear to be picks as well. I thought Zack was the better of the two. They were meh on the rest--Casey, Carly, Bridget, Emilio and Teddy. They probably want Emilio for the hip hop guy but they couldn't stress that after the routine tonight because he had mostly tricks. My favorite routines (choreography, execution and performance) were Stanley/Bridget, Ricky/Jessica, Marcquet/Malena and Zack/Valerie. Second group were Casey/Emily, Nick/Tanisha, Emilio/Teddy and Rudy/Carly. Last group was Serge/Brooklyn and Jacque and Jourdan. So they probably want Brooklyn and Marquet in the bottom. Rudy should be safe because they used the lovable tone with him. Jacque and Bridget for the other girls. Casey and Teddy for the other boys.
  11. After seeing their (Malene&Marcquet) interviews, I'm sorry they can only partner for the one week. Their personalities are great together and the impromptu went really well.
  12. Must be auditioned-out. No one moved me. Was hoping for more hip hop. Wonder if they suggested that FikShun's friend try out? Surely, he didn't do it on his own because if it is one thing sytycd has pushed, it's the strength of the male contestants. I know a lot of people don't agree with this but I do. This is a TV show. I like the image of the strong tall man (Team Tall all the way). That's one reason that I don't like soft short male dancers, for this show. I loved Stanley's routine last week but I wanted him to go to choreo to see if he could lift safely since he's so skinny. If it were a "true" dance competition, I wouldn't care because I'd be mainly looking at things like technique, lines, transitions. Most times the short guy does have better technique, shorter limbs to control. Ready for the competition. I just hope the judges don't push their agenda down our throats. And I hope there's not a contestant with too big of a fanbase right off the bat.
  13. I'm enjoying most of the auditions but I'm ready for the competition. I loved Stanley's performance. He was so into it and took me with him. It does look like they are trying for a ballroom winner or at least a strong ballroom season. I've really enjoyed the ballroom auditions but how will they do without their partners in other styles? Will they be able to connect with the audience? That's been the problem with ballroom dancers. And, romantic, it's funny how people see dance. I didn't see it as Witney ruining Paul's ballroom routine. I saw it as Paul missing a connection, letting Witney hit the floor hard, etc. I thought she made the most out of the situation and tried to let him shine.
