  1. Well, it looks like James will be a good contestant. Plus he's attractive. I think Laurie will win. But, as long as he continues his week 1 performance and he and Sharna get along, he should make the top 3. I felt like if they gave him to Sharna, there must be something there. TPTB are really transparent.
  2. Most of the voters are women. They are harder on the female celebs than the male ones. They want the female celebs to carry the routine (because that's a major part of ballroom) but they don't want them to have any kind of training--ringery. If the male celeb has musicality, stage presence, and a humble personality, they can go far. Execution becomes secondary. So you really need to see how the men perform for a couple of weeks. We can go by the woman's skills.
  3. I'm not saying all her partners were favorites to win, especially the first couple of seasons. TPTB have to work them in first to see if they are worthy of investing with good celebs. Even Derek got celebs who weren't expected to do well. And, I'm not saying that James is good. I was just playing the game of "who will". For the last few seasons, Sharna has had descent partner runs. So I thought she was a good bet to get another one. But, James should have some dance skills, good fanbase, good peronality or just the "it" factor to move on. Maybe you're right and Sharna won't be able to get him past the first 3 or 4 weeks. I think Nick, for this show, was good enough to win during his season. Charlie and Antonio's seasons were tougher but they should've done better. Andy and Noah went further than they should have because of the "favorite" aspect of the game. Tavis and Keyshawn couldn't dance nor were they popular with the DWTS faithful. Chemistry with your partner goes a long ways. We'll see if Sharna has any with James.
  4. If Laurie had Mark or Derek, she'd be the sure winner. To me, she and Val don't look good together. But she's a cutie and an olympian who has dance as part of her training. So I say she's the favorite. I have Marilu as a finalist because of all her dance training. I know Marilu is older now but she looks like she's kept her body up. I saw a vid of Debbie Allen (starred in Fame, dancer...) at a white house event. She can still get that leg up. She and Marilu are about the same age. So I'm sure Marilu can do ballroom. I have to ASSUME James is talented because TPTB put him with Sharna. He must have dancing skills, a great fanbase, a winning personality, or some winning combination because Sharna usually gets celebs with whom she can win. So I have him 3rd. I have Rick Perry as the first out. Rappers don't do well on this show. Not the right demographic. So I think Vanilla Ice will be an early out. I think Amber will have the talent but DWTS isn't her demographic. She'll have Maks but I still put her in the early out group. Some depend on the chemistry with their partner and how they transmit via the screen. For instance, I like Calvin but he seems to have a quiet personality. Plus he and Lindsay will have a height problem. Supposedly Maureen has a lot of dance in her background She may be better than Marilu? Babyface seems to have a quiet personality too. Plus he's paired with Allison who's really not a ballroom dancer. For some reason, I don't see Ryan as being very agile. He'll probably last longer than he should because of his olympic status, Rio problem, and Cheryl as a partner. Really have no clue on how Jake, Terra, or Jana will do. They could be breakout stars, the show's darlings, or dreadful.
  5. Oh OK. I only saw Dance Moms a couple of times. I saw the bickering Moms and AL but what I saw it was mainly about the treatment/portrayal of the girls and their routines.
  6. I've decided to keep up with the KidSYTYCD thru this forum because I am curious. I'm not TPTBs target group anyway. I tried watching Dance Moms but it just didn't work for me. I'm sure KidSYTYCD is a little different from Dance Moms but they both have the main focus--kid dancers. Wonder if anyone knows the viewer ratings? I have a feeling it will get better and better because of the young ones increase in idle time. Kids are really loyal to their own. Hopefully it will be something they can enjoy and root for. I doubt if the "older" viewers will enjoy it. Oftentimes, they didn't enjoy the late teens and early twenties. So I don't see how they can enjoy contestants with less experience, maybe as much as 10 years. But I guess you do have to change your requirement for the show. You'll have to see it as really good for a kid. So maybe they will enjoy it as much. Or maybe being precious will be enough.
  7. You are so right. I really didn't mean to critique. I just wanted positivity instead of negativity since the show was over. Swaying time is over. And I also think 8 years removed from a sport is a lot, especially when you're training in another sport. But now I see that some may not see it that way.
  8. Not bent out of shape about the results. It's a reality show. Just wish people would be positive about voting for a person and not try to bring the other person down in order to elevate the other. But like you say they are allowed to vote for whatever reason even if it is to demean the other celeb.
  9. Did Paige "exaggerate" about ending dance training before high school? You must have other info to show that she took dance training beyond her childhood if you're putting her in the same category as Nicole and Meryl. Dance performance is so subjective. I went on the journey with Paige. And she was so much better in performing within the last month. I was amazed by what Nyle accomplished but he didn't transport me. I just saw Nyle. I felt proud of him and emotional for him. But I didn't feel emotional because of the routine. I know most people have more than one reason why they do things. My point was to just say you voted for Nyle because you admire him or for whatever reasons. Most people will let you know they voted for Nyle but then they will let you know they didn't vote for Paige because of her "massive" dance training. I don't think this is a fair statement unless you've always pinged the celeb for dance training. And like I stated earlier, judging from past winners, this is not the case.
  10. I think Paige is a good athlete. To stop taking classes for 5-6 years (as you stated), channel your muscles to another sport and still appear to be the best dancer is admirable. I can see why it bothers some people if it has always bothered them--and not just with Paige.
  11. Nyle was impressive for a deaf person. You have to admire him. I wish more people would admit that they were just floored by what he did and that's why they voted for him. Most long time DWTS viewers knew that Nyle was running away with the votes for several weeks. They may were hoping that they were wrong but the result was no surprise to them.
  12. If she stopped taking dance classes in middle school, she didn't have massive dance experience. And just because you take classes doesn't mean you have massive performance experience (dance studio recitals and child competitions do not count). I wish people would just admit that they voted for Nyle because they admired him, thought he was cute or whatever. Prior dance experience should not be used for not voting for a person unless that's what you've done since the early seasons. And looking at some of the winners, I don't think that's the case.
  13. I never thought the judges wanted Paige to win. But I've always thought they wanted her in the finals because they know she is the best dancer. I didn't think she was overscored but I didn't think they would low-ball her during this time of the game. They know what kind of votes are being pulled in by each celeb. Paige probably had the lowest of the three. So they probably just wanted to make sure the best dancer made the finale. They've known for several weeks that no one would catch Nyle.
  14. I didn't know anything about Nyles but after the 1st week I knew he would make the finals. He had too good of a story (which also had the deaf-built-in fanbase + ANTM fanbase + the pretty boy fanbase + the heart string fanbase) not to make it. Then when the judges decided to heap on the praise and ignore the faults (kinda like they did for Bindi), I felt he could win. Then when people started to justify his ego statement, I knew he was the winner. He wasn't my choice but a competent celeb with a large fanbase > a great dancer with a suspect fanbase. I stopped watching live a few weeks back. There was no need. The judges had already tipped their hand and the viewers as well. I mean even Wanya couldn't gain support--being in the bottom a couple of times. Then when he messed up, I knew he wouldn't get the "Nyle-treatment" where people would justify/gloss over. And he didn't. So I just watch the clips. Usually Mark and Paige had the routines I would watch several times. TPTB did all they could to make sure Paige made the finals. They knew she wouldn't win but they didn't want another "Sabrina" redo. Without Mark's popularity and creative choreography, I doubt if Paige would've made it to the finals. I don't care how good she is. There was just no significant overlapping between MMA/UFC and DWTS. And people don't feel sorry for the pretty girl. So the bullying angle (which probably was traumatic for her) didn't register. They also walked the company line in keeping Ginger until the end. So TPTB had all check marks for the finals. They had the finals they wanted. Company line was checked. Best dancer was checked. Favorite personality was checked. For those who all of a sudden don't support celebs with dancing experience, take a look at previous seasons. If you voted for Nyles fine but don't use the "Paige came in with dance experience" card. The woman really carries the ballroom routines. TPTB realized that a female celeb with no training or exposure had no chance. I would bet that all the women this season, including Mischa, had some kind of dance training or exposure. Grant it that some might've been years ago but they had it. I think they need it because of being the "picture" and they're not going to gain support just because they look good like the male celebs enjoy.
  15. I thought Paige said she stopped dance classes when she reached high school? I didn't know she had continued taking classes. Was she performing as well? I've really enjoyed her this season and now I know why. I even saw the growth in her performance quality. I admire Nyle for what he accomplished but to me he's not a dancer. He can't convey the nuances through his body because he can't hear the music (as they like to remind us). He can learn the steps but being in tune with the music is another story. I think that's one reason he has so many problems with the quickstep (which didn't deserve 9s). He can't react to the subtle changes in the music. I think Ginger was being "gingerly" because of her injury. I guess I just didn't enjoy Val's choreography this season. The dances must've been good with all the 10s she received. As Len would say, "they just weren't my cup of tea". I always thought she would end up in the finals but I never felt she would win. And I still don't.
  16. This is going to be hard :) I've enjoyed Paige and Mark so much this season. 1. Jive. It was so joyous. I always smile throughout the whole routine. Paige kept the energy up while mastering the steps and gave us the Tina vibe. My favorite jive. 2. VW. This was so unusual. This really showed me how good Paige is because they never took me out of the flow. I loved the theme, costuming and interpretation. 3. AT. She showed that she's a grown woman. Of course she executed it so well but you could tell how close she's gotten to Mark. Chemistry means a lot in dance especially when you're trying to sell sexy. The stripping was cleverly done. I didn't think it was tasteless but you didn't want to blink.
  17. There are no surprises in the F3. Wanya performed well but you could tell he didn't have a large enough DWTS fanbase because they put him in jeopardy a few times. Antonio waited too long to show effort. By the time he got around to it (and he wasn't so great that you had to back him), people already had their favorites. If you go by dance ability, Paige would win hands down. I normally like Mark's choreography anyway but he's been exceptional this season. And Paige was able to convey his vision really well. But I think everyone knew that she would have a small DWTS fanbase. I really think Mark's choreography kept her in. Ginger was in regardless of Val's choreography. Nyle was in as long as he didn't fall down or miss a large portion of the routine (BTW, it was smart of Peta to use the gimmicks on routines she knew Nyle would have problems because people would talk about the gimmick instead of his dancing). Paige had to be very good to great each week or else she would've been gone. I would like for Paige to win. She had abilities when she came to the show but she has grown so much as well. But I can see why people would vote for Nyle. He really hasn't improved throughout the season (to me) but it is remarkable what he was able to achieve. I know his other senses are more heightened but you really need to hear and feel the music to be a good dancer. I can see why people would choose Ginger. She really was juggling a lot of balls. She didn't harp on it. She just did her best. Someone had stated something like the judges don't truly influence the outcome. I kind of agree because lately they've followed the viewers. They use the first couple of weeks to plant their preference. But if the audience falls in love with a celeb who wasn't on their radar, they alter their comments and just work to put their other preferences in the finals. Sometimes, it doesn't work. The only time I think they had a real agenda was during Brooke's season. She was the only one to get perfect marks during her season. I'm not saying that he didn't deserve it, but toward the end of the season they made sure that Warren's scores were low. They wouldn't do that now. And of course Brooke assumed the co-host duties for DWTS. Alphonso did get AFV but he was already doing game shows. Besides, he brought a humongous fanbase with him. It was up to him not to mess it up.
  18. I have to agree with calipiano81. I think it's the style and not Antonio. The VW is more dynamic than the waltz but it's still a waltz. And the dwts pros normally put the style on warp speed. I enjoyed the routine when they were performing. At the end of the episode, I had forgotten about it but I remembered Mark and Paige's. At this stage of the game, they should have everyone doing a waltz if they want one performed. The group routines could've been sprinkled in to break the monotony.
  19. Zendaya was the celeb who brought Val out and I still think she should've won. Then he had Elizabeth and Danica? They were both thought to be one of the better dancers during their seasons. They ended in 6th place during their season. His previous celebs before Zendaya did worse. So it really depends on what kind of fanbase you bring with you and how much it grows during the season. Obviously, "Stephanie Tanner" didn't have the fanbase of "DJ". And the judges (TPTB) weren't invested in getting her to finals because I think she was underscored (comparing to the others) a lot.
  20. I think Jodie finished about where they wanted her to regardless of her partner. She starts filming for her show this week. Mark may not win but he normally goes to the finals when he has a dance-accomplished celeb. They like to keep him around as long as possible. TPTB were always going to give Ginger breaks if she performed reasonably well. And, with GMA behind her, she was going pretty far in the competition. They probably thought the football players would round out the rest of the finals, until they saw Nyle and Wanya in week 1. So they probably had her pegged for 7th place. But Witney did such a poor job with Von that Jodie beat him out. It seems like Witney just didn't know what to choreograph for a big man.
  21. Agree. When Peta was talking about it, I said but they are probably using counts anyway. Didn't understand what was suppose to be so profound about it. Nyle's rear has stuck out all season. They don't mention it. That's when I knew he would be in the finals and maybe even win. If they want the first physically challenged celeb winner, he's the best they've had.
  22. With the celebs they had this season, I think it would've been about the same. MAYBE she would've gotten another week? At least for my preseason predictions, she wasn't part of my final or final 2 girls for that matter. It looks like a lot of viewers were the same.
  23. A lot of dance moves started from observing regular people, things, animals, nature etc. They get inspiration from a wide variety. I think people were just going by its use in choreography. The reality dance shows were the first time for a lot of people to see the dance moves. And the poster was merely pointing out that this particular move was used on SYTYCD from early on. I was surprised to see the move in a ballroom routine. Swing, jitterbug etc, I could see because a lot of the choreography is based on the "wow" factor. I just think of the jive in terms of stamina and precision. But I liked the inclusion. It perked me up.
  24. Agree. There have been better jives. But the Tina T aspect made it so enjoyable. Kinda like the Michael J cha cha with Shawn.
