  1. It wasn't just JayJay and Jensen. Everyone had flaws that could've been brought out, including my favorites--Darius/Magda. I can understand them being lax this week but did they really have to do the SOs? Except for Chelsea, they haven't pointed out much of anything. It's almost like they don't have a preferred F4 and are trying to see where the votes are. Last season, they knew from the start. Looking at how the judges reacted to the couples, I'd say Slavik/Genessy and JayJay/Jenson got the early votes. But I don't think they want Slavik or Genessy in the F4. They just want to get the ratings up as much as possible.
  2. Of course, this week's performances weren't going to be as good as last week. Last week, one of them was in his/her style. This week, I think they were trying to have at least one routine that was foreign to both. I like this format. Dancer should dazzle the first week and survive-in-style the second. Hannahlei & Cole got the shaft with dance styles. Neither of their styles are vote-getters. Maybe JayJay could've done a better job with the step routine but I thought they did a decent job. I felt like they had the disco when I saw Doriana would appear. Hannahlei is so small and Cole is ballroom. You'd think Doriana would've gone crazy. But it was kind of slow and timid. Think they'll be in the B4--the style god got them. Magda & Darius are my favorites this season. Think they maybe B4 b/c of bollywood. Was this the slowest, less athlectic Nakul piece? It seem like it is. They performed it well but it pales to other bollywood routines. The smooth jazz was made for them. It was my 3rd favorite routine. Genessy & Slavik may have bought themselves a couple weeks b/c of their chemistry and surprisingly good performances on last week. They also must've gotten good fan support b/c it was love all around. I enjoyed their routines, especially Slavik in the jive. But not as much as the judges. Taking everything into account, they s/b safe. Genessy may be the trained dancer but Slavik is driving the partnership. Jensen & Jay Jay were the stars this week for me. They performed my two favorite routines. I really don't think either of them were out of their comfort zone. With her training, Jensen s/b comfortable in jazz and contemporary. Of course JayJay is. I think that's why Nigel emphasized how unusual Sean's routine was. But it's still jazz. They got the favored treatment this week but they took advantage as well. They s/b safe.
  3. Mia was hated for her mean-spiritness. She really let her bias show.
  4. I THINK what you are saying is, she should've won because she got the votes. What I am saying is the show (starting with auditions) did a lot of manipulation with her partner shouldering the outside styles or choreographers creating an enormous amount of the routines to hide her, etc. Then followed it up with OTT praise for Mel and needless criticism for her close rivals. All was to convince the voters that she WAS super versatile. That's how she became a sytycd fan favorite. Granted, the show always has preferred winners like Lex on last season. He wasn't everyone's choice but they knew he was versatile. Look how they manipulated for Kiki last season. He wasn't versatile but the show made sure Lex got an equal amount of praise to keep Kiki from winning. Had they thrown Lex and the others under the bus enough times but constantly praised Kiki, he probably would've won. Because of the requirement to be versatile, a lot of us feel Mel didn't reach this criterion. But she was a great contemporary dancer.
  5. Disagree. The fans may vote on popularity but the show is based on versatility. The judges/show bent over backwards to make people think Mel was versatile. Even GaGa got in on the act. Normally, the most versatile dancer doesn't win. But most times, the winner was versatile. This is where favorite/popular comes in. Mel was just good at contemporary and average in jazz.
  6. It should not have been. The main sytycd requirement is versatility.
  7. Oh I see what you meant. I wasn't looking at the world. I was just talking about the average US DWTSs viewer. You may be right of course. I just don't agree.
  8. I thought she was runner-up a couple seasons ago? I really didn't mean a win is guaranteed but maybe he wouldn't end toward the bottom all the time.
  9. Maybe you're right. But I've always heard them say stuff like, they can only do ballroom. Most people know sytycd is suppose to be based on versatility. I think that's why people preferred Marcquet over Kiki. They saw how the show tilted routines for Kiki. And while they enjoyed Kiki's routines, they could tell he wasn't as versatile as Marcquet. Casual viewers can usually see who's the best ballroom, jazz, etc dancer. For some reason, the average sytycd fan doesn't value ballroom like they do hip hop or contemp/jazz? And we sometime forget it's a TV show and not a true competition. People vote their "favorite", especially when we had couples for a while. In the past, viewers didn't warm to ballroom dancers--age/maturity or what? I think that's why there's been so many Utah kids chosen--young and versatile. They don't care if they win. They just want to keep a variety as long as they can. That being said, I'm rooting for Darius and Magda. Neither of them fit the type of contestant sytycd fans vote for but I can hope.
  10. I think the GOP-hatred escalated after she was instrumental in keeping the democrats together to pass the ACA. GOP didn't want to budget to help the average citizen, even if it's healthcare. They drool everytime it looks like they can lessen the social programs or remove regulations that safeguard the average citizen. Afterall, they have to save their policies for the wealthy.
  11. No wonder he's so good. I just noticed he used his body and emoted like a contemporary dancer and not like a ballroom dancer who can do contemporary.
  12. So agree. He should stay overseas if he wants to be competitive. A lot of DWTSs viewers see ballroom as a non-Black dance style.
  13. I thought about Paul. He was good at contemporary but I think Cole's on another level.
  14. So happy that they paired the dancers off. I thought everyone was good. Of course, Chelsea was the designee for the girls. Guess they haven't quite narrowed it down for the guys or else they would've assigned a waltz or some really technical ballroom routine to him. But I hope Evan is the guy. I liked their routines least of all and I didn't see the chemistry. Genessy & Slavik's - They have the best natural chemistry. Maybe it's because they've admitted to one another that they aren't the best this season. So they've band together to bring out the best in one another. Kinda remind me of how Donyelle and Benji band together because they felt TPTB had them pegged as early exits. As far as dancing coupling, I get Dominic/Sabra vibes. Enjoyed both of their routines--albeit not as much as the judges did the hip hop. Think Nigel'em are just trying to drum up enough support to keep them in a while. Kind of like they did Kiki last season. So neither of them is my pick either. Jensen & Jay Jay - This is a good coupling as well. I get Brandon/Janette vibes from them. I enjoyed the jazz more than the samba. Really don't know what Nigel was seeing?? Would've enjoyed the samba more if it hadn't been for the snake move. Did she get stuck or what? Jensen's probably one of the show's favorites and Jay Jay is just a dancer. That's why I'm glad they don't have that much time to learn routines. Dancers like Jay Jay will always look better. With the time limit, it kind of evens out. But I don't think either of them will win. Hannahlei & Cole - I love watching Cole dance. He doesn't even look like a ballroom dancer. And, Hannahlei is a joy to watch but I found myself looking at Cole more which is not good. I was trying to think of a coupling they remind me of. The only one I could think of was S1 Artem/Melissa and they weren't permanent partners. Cole is just so much better at contemporary than the other sytycd male ballroom dancers. I think all of their routines will be good--kinda like Rudy/Tanisha?. But I'd be surprised if either of them win. Magda & Darius - For me, they were the best in both routines. Just hope Magda doesn't overdo the "I love my partner" routine. During the critique portion, she did look fake but they have dance chemistry. They remind me of Chehon/Witney. I hope one of them wins.
  15. Joe is praying that Trump talks his people into letting him meet with Mueller. Joe keeps baiting him, like Trump's attorneys don't think he's smart enough. I'd like to see it too but Trump should know that he wouldn't get a good ending. Stay away from Mueller.
  16. Jonathan was in S5. Karla was his partner. He lasted 3 weeks. Karla left the next week. I remember Mary telling him that he was better at contemp than his specialty-ballroom. But, his specialty was specific to salsa.
  17. Did they say how long the dancers had to learn the routines? I know they danced with all stars but they performed a lot better than I thought they would, especially the salsa routines. Based on tonight's performance, I agree. However, it was a toss up between Jensen and Steph, for me. But Jensen's jazz routine had more content. The two salsas were better than the cha cha's; the emo contemp was better than the athletic one; Genessy had the better hip hop performance. I thought Emily had the worse performance. She got off toward the beginning. If she were dancing with another contestant, it probably wouldn't have looked so bad. The two cha cha girls (Sydney and Dayna) were next. Not that they were bad but it's too difficult to stand out in a "structured" ballroom dance if you're not ballroom. If it's not the posture, it's the hips, the foot pressure, the attitude, etc. If it were the live show, they might've squeaked by. But the judges had to use some kind of measurement to whittle down. Again Brianna didn't perform badly but it was an athletic/nonemo contemp routine. I would've been surprised if she had hit all the transitions. I liked Stephanie better than Jensen. But once they told Jensen to take a seat, I knew Stephanie was out because Magda had the emo contemp. Right now, I have Hannahlei, Chelsea, Magdalena, Jensen and Genessy.
  18. I thought she was too. But one of our posters basically said she wouldn't make it because the other contemp girls were better.
  19. I was just listing the ones who made it to the end. I enjoyed all of them. I'll never forget Mary telling Donyelle that she didn't belong. But Lacey was my S3 pick. I thought she was more versatile and fun. In fact, I think she's part of the reason why people started supporting Danny. So you think Sasha and Emily are about the same when it comes to technique? I'll have to look at Emily again but I love Sasha. Unlike Melanie, she was so versatile.
  20. I know what you mean because I hate when they pick a favorite during the auditions too. But I feel like a hypocrite because I don't mind with Emily. Contemp/ballet trained black females normally don't do well on the show. So she's going to need all the help she can get to stay a while. There have been black females who have done well but contemp-ballet doesn't come to mind. And, I want her to stay a while so that I can see "what she's got". I hope she doesn't disappoint like the other highly trained ballet/contemp dancers that the show manipulates to make us think they've conquered the other styles. ETA: s2 Donyelle was more jazz, s3 Sabra was a dark horse and not as trained, s6 Ellenore was more jazz, s8 love Sasha but she doesn't bring "dainty" to mind, s10 Jasmine is just as much hip hop.
  21. Now that you feel you have the movement down, pick the one you think did the best or the one you enjoyed the best. Kind of like when you choose who performed the cha cha cha best.
  22. Why didn't they just pair the 10 girls with the 10 boys for the next 2 weeks? They could perform the duos outside their specialties and perform their specialty solo/ballroom partner routine. Then The judges can decide the top 10 and pair them with the assigned AS.
  23. I don't think Charlie is stubborn when it comes to her family. Did Nova ever pay her back?
  24. I'm tired of them saying Hillary ran an awful campaign and that's how we got Trump. They just ignore Russian interference, Comey's declarations, voter complacency, third party candidates, delusional Bernie supporters, sexism (from men and women voters), media's portrayals (Trump was reported on actions but justified; Hillary had conspiracy-type reporting and attacked). It's amazing that she won the popular vote. Well, we have Trump. And he is MAGAing as it pertains to the wealthy and white men era. The "white man" just wants to feel superior again because they'll only get crumbs under Trump. Anyone else who voted for Trump didn't take their voting responsibility seriously. With the Supreme Court being so political instead of impartial, all the gains made from the 60s and 70s are in danger.
  25. Why do Republicans, esp the old ones like Joe, continue to revere Reagan? Reaganomics (like trickle down) and Reagan policies (like breaking up the unions, putting the mentally ill on the street) are nothing to hold up. The media tries to whitewash his policies or bury the indefensible ones. But, during the Reagan's presidency, the national debt almost tripled and the U.S. went from being the world's largest creditor nation to the world's largest debtor in under eight year. Living off "other people's money" is great until the payment is due but people still look at the 80s as a boom. Debt ties your hands. Just ask Trump. But most of the media just wants us to remember the Berlin wall?
