  1. You must not like jazz/contemporary/ballet dancing? I see the repetitiveness in the DWTS ballroom discipline and the routines can run together despite costuming or rule breaking. But I watch to see who entertains me most within the discipline or to see who's performing the moves more correctly. There are some rumba, cha cha, waltz etc moves that I don't prefer that everyone uses. But they don't make me stop enjoying ballroom dancing (competitive or just entertainment).
  2. Nope, we'll never know. I liked Riker's personality. But with his looks (really youngish), I knew he was in trouble with the main DWTS viewers. You could tell he and Allison got along. In fact, I think they still keep up with one another. I thought his choreography was really good and fun. Like most things, if you have issues with someone, things become skewed. He did end up second. So a lot of people liked him. But, Rumer, Bruce and Demi's name recognition was a lot to overcome. That's another reason why I don't think Riker would've won even if he had a more popular pro.
  3. The show has been on its dying breath for over 5 years now. I think this is a ploy to try to get people to watch the auditions. If you get invested in the auditions, you're more apt to invest in the competition. There are lots of people who don't bother with auditions. I also doubt that any of these people make the show. They don't fit the "cookie cutter". The show is not as bad, but kind of like how the gay actors back in the day had to fake being straight. Women wanted to dream of being with Rock and the gay guys as well. I get tired of all the angst ridden love stories as well. But those are the ones that get the most votes. People appreciate the non-angst routines but they don't vote for them. When the show gives one of their favorites a non-angst routine, I know they have the win in the bag. Maybe somebody will start a new dance show that will be transparent on sexuality. JLo started her version and I THINK it got better ratings than SYTYCD? But the average SYTYCD viewers don't want a spotlight on race, ethnicity, sexuality, etc. If you look like a man, you should dance the male part in the duet. But a new show can show the two men dancing with one being portrayed as physically weaker, if necessary for the routine. Or, it can show the female as the physically strong one. It can let everyone know who's gay, straight or had an operation. Everything could be in the open.
  4. I don't think Riker would've won. He didn't have the personality. Male winners usually are good at dance technique but someone else during that season was better. It's their personality that gives them the win. Mario wiped the floor during his season but he didn't win. And he had a fun personality. The male winners who were the best was Alfonso (people just liked Carlton) and Jordan (he had a good story). If they really wanted Allison to win, they would've given her Alfonso. Anyone would've won with him.
  5. Agree. TPTB have given Sharna plenty of partners to win with. I'm beginning to think she wouldn't have won even if she had Jordan or Rashad. But even she could've won with Alfonso. This is a shortened season. Name recognition means a lot--even Kareem made it through. Josh seems to be one of the favorites. So again Sharna has a great chance.
  6. How much weight has Lacey gained? TPTB thought she was too plump (for a TV dancer) before she left. If she's gained anymore weight, I doubt if they'll bring her back.
  7. I thought Debbie's a ballet dancer? I can see Aston having a problem in this area but a ballet dancer? I think this comment could apply to any celeb who's made it thru weeks of the competition. Sounds like a company line--true but not decisive.
  8. I guess I fall into the bold group. I could see that Debbie was trained from the beginning and she still looks the same to me. Alex is gifted. The kind of choreography she gets is more flash than substance. So I just get caught up in the fun/wow aspect.
  9. Oh is Mika not qualified as well? I felt like she got breaks because of her father but I thought she was qualified. And those kind of people never stick to the plan. They revert to old habits.
  10. Wasn't President Obama gonna work on the district lines fiasco? He best hurry. No time for lectures. Everyone knows the republicans fixed the lines.
  11. Democrats and Republicans are not truthful. But, Republicans are seen as evil/selfish people. They are the biggest hypocrites. They don't care if you catch them in a lie and neither do their supporters. As long as you're not a democrat, you're good. Todays-republicans try to ruin people personally because they know only the rich can appreciate their policies. CHIP anyone?
  12. You're right. If there's a way Joe can work Bill Clinton into the conversation in a negative way, he goes for it. He's like all republican men especially during that time. They hate Bill and Hillary. I'm also tired of people talking about how great things were under Reagan. We were in denial and running up the family tab. Ask Daddy Bush how great those years were. He became the responsible parent who had to try to right the ship. And wouldn't you know it, he didn't get a second term. But Reagan got rid of deductions the middle class used. Then he came after social security. I guess Ryan said it worked once, let's try it again.
  13. Oh I didn't know he was that bad. TBH, I don't see where Alex.. or Debbie has improved either. But I like most of their routines. So I guess Joe will more than likely be the winner. He's improved more than the ladies.
  14. But usually when the show let's a good celeb go, it's because they have other picks or another direction that they want the show to go. If they didn't think Aston was doing well with the public, why would they low ball him, especially if they weren't going to save him in the dance off? I was thinking there were some rumblings about getting Debbie--the oldest winner. Or maybe it's like you say, they just don't like Janette's ballroom teaching/choreography. Or maybe they just didn't like Aston's style. I never got "hip hop guy" learning ballroom but obviously some did because you did. I've seen "hip hop guys" doing ballroom and Aston isn't close. But I agree that Alex.. will probably not win. Gemma should've been gone. I never saw anything interesting in Joe but a lot of posters do. So I would guess Joe and Debbie for the final two.
  15. Interesting read. I just assumed TPTB had a pick after they got rid of Aston--a 4?
  16. Not me. I hope this never happens. Did he say he had 3 sets of kids about the same age by 3 women?
  17. Totally agree. This was my point all along.
  18. I was looking more at the dance aptitude of the cast during their season. I'm one of those who believe it is best to be good and have the best fanbase (e.g., Donny/Amber) than to be the best and have a good fanbase (e.g., Mya/Corbin). Kristi, Nicole, Jennifer and Alfonso were the best, had huge fanbases and are well-known. They were kind of untouchable. They also didn't have competitors equal to their dance ability during their season. Meryl was in this group once Charlie left. But I do agree with your thinking. And we finally got a disney kid, male in his early 20s to win.
  19. OK. Isn't it still a top rated show on one of the major networks or has it fallen so far down that it's no longer in the "must see" category?
  20. OK. Just stating that I don't believe the current pros are part of the reason for the falling ratings. I guess I thought people interested in well-trained ballroom dancers would keep up with their live and broadcast appearances.
  21. OK. I was addressing the fact that the poster said the earlier pros were more compelling and that "the pros were so much fun to watch because they were all champions and all so well trained in ballroom dancing" as a reason for the falling ratings. I just pointed out the other program that had ballroom-trained dancers and that the ratings were not good.
  22. You're entitled. It just seems like some people are just as likely to vote against someone as they are for someone. So if you really don't like ringers, you'll make sure to support the best person who isn't a ringer.
  23. Kind of like Kristi, Nicole or Alfonso season. At least Meryl had Charlie for a while. He was as accomplished as she was.
  24. Agree. I think they realized they have better audience participation when there are so called ringers. There's a natural conflict of dance talent vs non to go along with old vs young; male vs female etc. Besides, people do like to see some good routines.
  25. You maybe right but the ballroom challenge on PBS never got the viewer support, even in olden days. All the dancers are well trained in ballroom.
