  1. As much as he annoyed me, now that he is gone and apparently Bridget has replaced him I miss him and the hard-to-please, hard-to-impress sarcastic personality. At least he has a personality. The show will not be the same without him.
  2. Considering it was the same day as the marches I'm guessing it was more likely a nod to the pink hats.
  3. I didn't see the whole show but I noticed in Big Sean's second performance one of his band members, a female violinist, had braids wound into little buns on each side of her head. Looked like cat ears to me.
  4. Oops, never mind. I guess I wasn't paying attention, I didn't realize he walked back in.
  5. I'm leaning with those who think there was no suicide and Randall is mentally unstable. The timeline simply doesn't work--they still had time to go home and celebrate Christmas Eve with family just showing up and the kids still up. If it had really happened they would have been stuck there for hours while Randall was interviewed by police. And his wife would have been at least slightly upset once they got home.
  6. Saw another marathon last night. Two contestants reupholstered a wood bench which had a beautiful finish of two shades of wood. They were planning to clean and restore the wood. Along comes Lara to veto the idea, insisting they paint it because brown doesn't sell well but color does. She walks away and the two contestants ignore her advice, restoring the wood. The piece comes out beautiful and sells right away!
  7. Agreed qtpye. As somebody commented upthread, it seems suspicious so many buyers are willing to pay exorbitantly marked-up prices for these pieces, and maybe the excitement of being filmed is a draw for some of them. After all, most folks go to flea markets to buy the vintage furniture in its original shape either to rehab it on their own, or if it's in decent condition, just to clean up and use. I get that creativity is an important element in the show, but I cringe when I see the contestants covering the natural beauty of a wood piece with a coat of red/white/black or orange paint. Or decoupage using an old map (not creative.) I watched a recent episode where they fixed up an old Singer sewing table, and called my Mom since she has one that she inherited from her grandmother. She DVR'd the show when it was on later that night and gave her seal of approval on the rehab of that piece because they stayed close to the original look and colors. She thought the top coat of lacquered pennies was a little odd, but still said it was not as weird as some of the other things she saw that night (I got her hooked too!)
  8. So glad I found this board! I recently discovered this show which is on near-constant marathons on GAC channel--if you have this on your cable and you missed any seasons, you can catch up anytime here. Glad it's not just me making all these observations--I'm so on the same page as many of the posters here. RE: the exchange above. Here's what I see in the first round of buying: Contestant: Will you take $80? Seller: Can't go less than $90 Contestant: How about $85? Seller: Deal! Always those exact increments. Best scene was where a kid about 12 was doing the bargaining from behind the table while his father looked on proudly. Very cute! I didn't get the memo we are all supposed to have bar carts. These people, no matter what age, are so fixated on this item. Are the producers steering them towards it? The obligatory throwing shade at the other contestants scenes--ugh so scripted.
  9. Maybe Jessa is looking to adopt an older girl so she can pass off the care and feeding of current and future babies? It's the Duggar way and she kind of lost out on that for at least the next 7 or 8 years by having a boy first. I think the producers are trying for a Kardashians for Christian girls angle. There are many parallels, including the men being shoved into the background while the sisters hang out doing nothing and having dumb conversations using poor grammar. And the limitations on the girls' life choices are parallel to the controlling momager Kris Jenner.
  10. I'd love to know what these mysterious "Projects" are that keep Jessa so busy. Not cooking, they made that clear. Is she writing rap lyrics for Ben? Making more of those diamond shaped dangle earrings all the girls wear? I have hope for J&J because their husbands seem modernized and laid back. Maybe they'll have some options in life outside of having 20 kids. And they speak like normal people, not in the syrupy little girl voice that Michelle favors, although Anna does seem to be following in Michelle's footsteps. Poor thing, Jim Bob is no prize but he's certainly not the troubled, cruel mess that Josh is. Anna's oldest daughter resembles Tori spellings oldest daughter.
  11. Besides women, I think it's props people for TV and film sets. Pretty much every show or movie, when there is a romantic scene, has candles everywhere, whether it's the bedroom or around the bathtub. I can't imagine that's realistic, total fire hazard plus what pain to put them all out. I really liked the dripped candles, but just for show, I would imagine they would like messy when they burned down.
  12. I saw the first half of this at my gym, and was sad that my workout was over because I wanted to see the part where Sheldon revealed why he was going to that room every day!
  13. Do we know for sure that D has Marfan syndrome because I just looked it up and it looks all kinds of awful. Do they have medical insurance and if so is he even covered in the rural Central American location they are going to? I'm worried about him. Of all the girls I like Jill the best because she has a spark of wit and intelligence in her eyes even while she is towing the party line and speaking in Duggar-speak. Meanwhile Jessa has a spaced-out look in her eyes. Anna is graceful and her kids are beautiful, too bad her options are so limited. The minute she entered the Duggar compound she was committing to a future with more kids with Mr. Ashley-Madison. She should have found her own angle for a reality show of her own.
  14. Hope this is the right board for commenting on "The Homecoming." One long, meandering movie with about two weeks worth of events taking place on one day. I've been watching it on DVR while wrapping gifts but I don't think I will make it to the end. Maybe it's because I'm used to Michael Learned but that actress who played Olivia was hard to watch, she seemed to belong in another movie. I looked her up on imdb and she was once quite beautiful. Meanwhile I didn't mind the Grandpa so much, but I like Will Geer better. It was fun seeing all the kids so young.
  15. That was one dumb scene. "This smells like cow..." Then they all drank hot chocolate with a plate of fresh fruit, what a weird combo, I never thought of serving those together.
  16. - I can't get a read on Ben -- maybe he didn't appear in the clips as much -- but I wonder if some of what comes off as boredom or detachment to us, might stem from his efforts to be seen as Mr. Strict and Serious. ETA: Above quote from JenCarroll, sorry, didn't use the quote feature correctly Maybe he's just dumb? He seems slow as molasses. I appreciate the younger Duggar brothers' honesty. Hope they can learn from their older brother's mistakes. Oh, and male pattern baldness really seems to run in that family. Jessa's comment that people expect them to be perfect and have no problems? Weird, because for years they presented themselves as a pristine family with madly-in-love parents and perfectly-behaved kids and all sinful behavior was hidden from the cameras. They put forth that image, so why so surprised that people expected them to back it up with decent behavior when the cameras were off? When one of the girls commented that people "avoided" them after the Josh publicity, I didn't realize they meant "shunned." If so, shame on those so-called Christians. Those silver chandelier earrings shared by Jill and Jessa were a distraction. Do they both own the same pair? Or do they have a line of jewelry they are trying to product-place? I know my own grammar isn't perfect but boy does it bug me when the Duggars use "whenever" when they mean to say "when." They all clearly knew Jessa was having a boy. In all the shopping scenes everyone gravitated towards boy colors and clothing. Either that or those scenes were filmed after she had the baby.
  17. UP has been airing those missing episodes. Highlights (or lowlights, if you prefer:) Amy is living in a dingy, dumpy apartment with Lauren The vandal who hit the Gray house may have followed them there Maxine callously tried to empty out Lauren's room and put everything in the basement, which hurt Lauren's feelings Lauren is miserable and her dad is using that as leverage to gain back custody Bruce only got probation for the fight he got in (still haven't seen that episode maybe I missed it). He was sentenced to probation, then he was fired. As usual he was grumpy with Amy. But then he stopped by her apartment late at night while she was drinking wine, and she sat on his lap so they could watch bad movies together, then they started making out. Ended there but the implication is they hooked up.
  18. I love both of those episodes also! The ER Scene in the adhesive duck deficiency where Sheldon fills out the forms for Penny is hilarious. I also love the one with Leonard's mom's first visit, and the Penny Blossom episode where all the guys help her out with her business, although what ever happened to that?
  19. Wow, six episodes missing? I wasn't aware of that. What's UP with that, what are they censoring that's supposedly so offensive? We miss out on what sounds like some pretty meaty stuff but we're still subject to the episode where Donna has her baby in a pool in the Gray's living room. During Amy's custody battle Amy's ex had a private detective following her, and there were pictures of her kissing Bruce that were passed on from the ex' attorney to Amy's attorney. There was a funny Maxine line in an ep I watched this week, a neighbor that Maxine didn't like but was once friends with stopped by and Maxine wouldn't talk to her. Amy asked "Aren't you ashamed of yourself?" and Maxine replied, "Not for this."
  20. I did see the episode where Amy's brother Peter testifies on UP, it's called "The Best Interests of the Child." I'm convinced UP in not showing them all, because I've never seen the one where Vincent gets bombed, only the aftermath episodes where he's recovering. I looked it up in an episode guide, it's called "Blast from the Past." And apparently there's one where Amy and Bruce kiss, where is that one? Again, I've only see the episodes where Amy deals with the consequences in her custody battle. I'm disturbed by the way the Gray family wantonly opens the front door every time the bell rings. Considering Amy and Maxine's stalking and vandalism experiences you'd think they'd all be a little more careful.
  21. I noticed a 1 hour special called "Tori & Deans Family Thanksgiving" is on the Cooking channel at midnight, I have my DVR set to record. There's no year on my cables description so I'm not sure if this is new or a repeat from a previous year. Will report back on all the staged phoniness and ridiculousness when I watch later this week.Highlights according to the description include Dean making vanilla bean cranberry and orange gelatina (yes, it says "gelatina" I guess that's a foodie term for jell-o?) Meanwhile Tori will create a "produce-inspired tablescape." Oh FFS Tori just get some autumn-themed placemats at Pier 1.
  22. My DVR is full of this show and I've been binge-watching. Maxine is the whole show and Amy's best scenes are with her. Vincent was whiny, but Mad Men guy Cousin Kyle is worse! Why is he stopping by the Gray house for coffee in the morning on his way to work, it makes no sense logistically. He lives in Vincent's old apartment which is in the city and works at a hospital in the city, but he makes a detour through the suburbs just to add some comic relief to the scene by making a sarcastic comment. I'm also annoyed that once he starts working at that hospital which was the only place that would take him, only because it was the worst and most underfunded hospital in Hartford. Suddenly every Gray family member and anyone connected to them is always going to that crappy hospital so they can have heroic Kyle The Doctor scenes. I'm up to Maxine's heart attack episode where all her kids are fighting at her bedside, hopefully she'll survive, the show's not worth watching without her. I liked the scene where Amy tried to call Stu to apologize for jilting him at the altar, not realizing Maxine was in the other room, and Maxine said you can leave a man at the altar or you can be his friend, but you can't have both, or something to that effect. There is another good scene where Amy's brother testifies on her behalf at her custody hearing and gives a nice speech about the support system Lauren has by being surrounded by her extended family.
  23. I'm running out of reasons to watch, except to see if April survives, although it's not looking good. I've stuck with the show despite its weird, sporadic schedule. But I'm not really invested in any character, let's wrap it up so I can get some closure!
  24. Agree on Holly and Margaret, they were both pretty likeable and laid back. I get the narrative for Margaret was partly to bring some attention to the "forgotten" child, but I find it hard to believe her parents don't give her much attention because she prefers art and studying to sports. The kid looks to be about 17 and her parents are just now realizing she's been overlooked and ignored all these years? Unlikely, although with her father being a former pro athlete I can see how he would find it easier to bond with his sports-playing sons.
  25. Interesting episode, the lanolin lip products made me think of my Nana and her Avon lip balms--full of lanolin. That smell! I thought Marcus was way off the mark with his comment about zebra stripes being a 1985 throwback. I guess he doesn't have kids, little girls or tween girls specifically. Animal prints are big for this demographic and have been for years. When they go to buy their first lipgloss at about age 12 they are likely to gravitate towards packaging or displays with zebra stripes.
