In Memoriam: Entertainment Industry Celebrity Deaths

President Obama's eulogy: I also didn't agree with him, but I did respect him. RIP sir. I guess he didn't want to spend a single Christmas without his lady. I do hope he is reunited with her somewhere. -
Pet Peeves: Aka Things That Make You Go "Gah!"

I can't sleep and am scrolling through FB as a time-waster. I absolutely cannot stand those stupid Will Ferrell/Elf memes that count down the amount of Fridays until Christmas. Give me a break already. It combines a multitude of dislikes of mine: Will Ferrell, Christmas, anyone who says "I have X amount of Fridays before (insert special occasion here), and the movie "Elf". I thought the premise of the movie was beyond stupid when it came out and I absolutely can't stand that it seems to have become a "Christmas classic" of sorts. -
I got my first apartment at 18. I wasted 8 years on and off with a cheating, lying, drug addict and alcoholic first boyfriend. He never proposed and I would have never said yes if he did. My grandmother raised me during my teen years. She lost her my grandfather before I was born, never seriously dated after his death, and instilled in me to be very independent. The thought of marrying anyone or even living with someone in my 20s made me want to run for the hills. My view on men was that they made great company, but I still wanted them to go home after a couple days. The longest a man has ever stayed at my home regularly was a week and I was so grateful when he left. I would like to get married someday but at this point I have been on my own for so long I can't imagine shifting gears when to living with someone and dealing with their shit full-time. I love coming home and having peace and quiet. With things so crazy at work, my cats and you all are all the social interaction I'm comfortable with dealing with right now. I know I'm a recluse and that might not be healthy, but I have no energy to deal with people. And honestly, every time I've gone out anywhere in recent years, everyone is so absorbed in their phones that it's hard to meet people or strike up a conversation anyway. ETA: @hoosier80 I am so sorry that it seems you are suffering from Narcissistic Abuse from your mother: https://www.psychologytoday.com/us/blog/toxic-relationships/201709/how-spot-narcissistic-abuse My last serious boyfriend was a narc, and I know I'm not fully healed from it. I do hope that you are one day able to break that toxic hold that your mother has over you. You deserve better than to be treated like that. I am here if you ever want to talk.

I wonder if this is a generational thing or not. My brother is 26 years old and has proposed/ "gotten engaged" (with no ring) to every girlfriend he's ever had as an adult. My sister is 7 years older than him, and I am 9 years older than him. Neither one of us approached relationships in the same way he does. My friend's grandson is in his early 20s and had a child out of wedlock because "all his friends had one" so he wanted one too. SMH Youth is wasted on the young.

That's why I love having RBF (Resting Bitch Face). Most of the time the cashiers will be chit-chatty and friendly with the people before or after me, but won't say two words to me. It used to bother me, but now I don't care. I've had Trader Joe cashiers carry on with conversation with me as they bag my stuff, and I was exhausted by the end of it. I now try to find the cashier that gives off the most introverted vibe when I go there. I just want to purchase my items and go, not hear why we both happen to like the same product. -

Yes, but they came on the scene already overweight and were accepted as such. SMG absolutely would be fat-shamed if she gained 50, hell even 20 pounds. There would be endless corny jokes about how the only thing Buffy would be slaying is the food table or whatever. That's my peeve with society. People think it is okay to judge someone else's weight, but would hate for the tables to be turned on them. -
I woke up this morning to the sound of a loud, guttural honking that went on for about 20 minutes. I went outside to see what was going on and found 3 peacocks on my building's roof! I threw some blueberries up to them for breakfast, which they seemed to enjoy.

I'm surprised at that. It was a huge hit in Miami at the time. I couldn't get away from it. "Lovefool" came out the summer between middle school and high school for me. Love that song and all the other ones listed here. This was also the best decade for female rap music. Missy's "I Can't Stand The Rain" and "Sock It To Me" , Lil Kim's "No Time", "Crush on You", and "Ladies Night" are all classics. Foxy Brown's "Gotta Get You Home Tonight" is another fav. Lauryn Hills "Doo-Wop (That Thing)" and "Ex-factor" are two of my favorite songs ever.

The SMG thing was really a reach. Its not fat shaming if a woman chooses to watch her weight and posts a skinny photo of herself as inspiration,IMO. She is focused on herself, not bashing a group. I am also tired of stupid things causing a social media meltdown. People get annoyed when celebrities dare to have a private life with minimal social media interaction, but then expect a celeb who is an active on social media to walk a tightrope. Yeah, they are public figures, but they are also human and are going to say and do stuff that people don't agree with. -
I think the actress that plays Geena at times puts an a over-the-top inflection in her lines, and makes her come off as a stereotypical caricature. I don't know if it is just because she is a weak actress or if she's being directed that way (I hope not). I don't dislike the character but some of her scenes can be cringeworthy. No different that Jackie last season. The one thing I do hate is that the writing seems to be going strictly for funny and not too much in-depth with the drama. I keep trying to remember the writing talent we had for those early seasons of the original show, and how these writers can't be expected to compare. (Obviously it wasn't solely R, because we saw what happened in the later seasons when her level of creative control increased). But its hard because you expect more in-depth conversations than just jokey ones that end in punchlines. I am surprised that so many posters are shocked at Jackie learning/knowing Spanish. I think the Mexican restaurant replaced the Lobo because they wanted to reflect the change in the town's demographics. I love that Jackie was progressive enough to get ahead of it and become bilingual. I could see her sitting at her computer, absorbed in her Rosetta Stone classes. Can't you just see her driving everyone crazy by teaching them what things mean in Spanish?
-
Ok, can we get Ed O'Neill to play her husband?!😉 Would love a mini-Bundy/Conners crossover!
-
If Jackie's a life coach, and Lanford's Mexican population has soared in recent decades, I could see her taking classes to keep up with her clientele. I thought she fully understood everything he said, but wanted to spare Becky from what he was saying to avoid drama.
-
Man, I wish Andy existed in this universe. Would have loved a scene with Jackie and Becky bonding over getting pregnant from one night stands later in life. OG!Jackie would be supportive as hell considering how the relationship with Fred turned out. Love Darlene's new boss and maybe love interest. They have a Roseanne/Dan kind of chemistry to them. I wonder if we will see the lesbian couple and Sarah Chalke's character vying for Becky's baby. I could see her being tempted or even possibly giving it up for the right price. I really hope this gets a 2nd season. This show is so great without the toxic, controlling cloud hanging over it.

This was the first time she's shown any interest in bags, that's why I thought it was so cute. Boxes, on the other hand, are instant hits:

Yup, me too. I hate Christmas the most because it is so invasive-music, movies, ads. Its too much. I've seen restaurants with Christmas decorations going up on Nov. 1. All for one lousy day. There shouldn't be annual days that people feel socially obligated to spend together. Bah humbug. -
I placed some excess grocery bags on top of my cabinets. Diamond decided she was going to nest in them to keep her self warm (its below 70 here, so it is cold for her FL-born and raised self). She is so silly.

Sometimes karma hits at just the right moment. I was on the turnpike during rush hour and there was the usual idiot weaving in and out of lanes and they cut my truck short, leaving me to slam on my brakes. I was in the middle lane. Idiot Lane Weaver goes to the right lane, comes back and cuts me off in the middle again, and goes to the left lane. All of a sudden I hear "Pop!" and looked over to see ILW has hit the back of a police vehicle. I don't usually take pleasure in others misfortune but I couldnt help but laugh this time. Both vehicles appeared to have just minor damage so hopefully ILW learned their lesson. -
Jackie was a little annoying in this ep, but I loved her in the mall. When she chased down the guy with the MAGA hat on, I lost it. I also loved her pink church hat too. Yeah, this was so obviously meant to be the 2nd episode that I wish they would have kept the order. Dan's support group is so true to life. I'm with ya, Dan. It just isnt for me.

I feel your pain (probably literally--chances are, we are having the exact same symptoms). Called the gastro, of course he is going out of town for the holidays. Got an appointment next week but was warned the endoscopy would probably not take place until next year. Cool, I love not being able to eat around the holidays. The endoscopy will either show nothing or show that I have something that isn't curable (hoping this isn't the case) because that is my luck. If it shows nothing, I will just be prescribed an endless round of do-nothing PPIs (whichever one the pharm reps are shilling to the doctors this month). It's amazing that this is their profession and yet they really are clueless about the gastro system. Half the time, my internet guesses are more accurate than their diagnosed ones. -

Got "diagnosed" with a stomach ulcer at the emergency room today. I am so tired of doctors assuming that every woman's stomach issues stem from pregnancy. I almost lost my shit today. Me: These are the symptoms and how long they've been occuring. The pain has only gotten worse since my period (sorry to the male readers) started. Nurse: Ok, are you sure you're not pregnant? Me: Absolutely sure, seeing as my uterine lining is shedding and all. Her: Ah, ok! Doctor: Ok, so what's going on? Me: Repeats everything I said to Nurse--all gastro symptoms. Doctor: OK, we are going to take a urine sample to rule out Pregnancy and urinary tract infection. Me: .......Ok, nothing wrong with that part of my body but ok.....by the way, I'm on my cycle 3 hours later, after a ultrasound, bloodwork, and urine test: Doctor: Everything came back fine with your ultrasound and bloodwork, but we are detecting blood in your urine. Me: OMG, could that be due to my period that I've now told you about 3 times? Doc: Oh yeah, that would explain that! Me: Great, so about those gastro symptoms that were the reason for me coming here and all? Doc: Ah well, we don't really know but it sounds like it could possibly be an ulcer but we don't want to say for sure. Take a whole bunch of antacids, and call a gastro to schedule an endoscopy that will likely not take place until next year. Good luck! America's finest in the emergency room, I swear. I'm doubled over in pain, can't walk without assistance, and felt like I was going to pass out at any moment and this is the idiocy I had to deal with. -
Its criminal that Billie Lourd didn't inherit any of her mother or grandparent's talent at all. Tonight was another load of tripe. Its hard to believe that these people actually came up with Murder House and Asylum once upon a time. I just don't think Ryan's heart is in this series anymore. He has too much going on. It's sad. AHS started off with such potential in its early years.

The ages of the gay men confused me too. Both actors looked to be in their late 80s, but the flashbacks showed them being in what looked like their 20s in the late 1970s....wouldn't they just be in their 60s today? Loved their love story anyway. Love Athena and Bobby. And she is absolutely right about the hypocrisy of having to be nice to Micheal's partner just because he's a man.....I'm glad they got along, though. It makes sense that they would think alike, some people just have a type. Maddie and Chimney are cute and JLH is settling in nicely in this series...

I think that David Simon realized that those 3 would be the least likely to live to see 1985 if they existed in real life. Rodney was on his way to dying of a heroin overdose, CC had too much of a violent temper to have survived the changing times. There was no getting Ashley to back down and she was almost bound to getting herself killed. She and CC were the same in that neither would back down for their own good. CC could have took the mob money and started over elsewhere. Ashley could have stayed gone or left again once her friend abandoned her. Both deaths were sort of "suicide by cop" in a way---clearly and deliberately pushing buttons until they got what they were looking for. ETA: When I first saw Lori throwing up in the bathroom, I was so nervous for her that CC left a little gift behind during their last tryst. I am glad that it was just nerves!
-
I'm surprised Vincent was the only one at Ashley's funeral. I thought Abby and the Puerto Rican ex-hooker would at least be there to pay their respects. Poor Ashley. In the end, the only thing that stood between life and death for her was CC. I felt like the right characters died at the right time though. I couldn't see CC, Rodney, or Ashley making it to the '80s anyway. There is just something about Larry that I want to root for him even after watching him strangle a woman. His goodbye to Darlene was strangely sweet. I look forward to seeing where they end up in the future. Paul and his lover were so sweet--I felt the huge AIDS anvil hanging just over their heads. I'm predicting that Paul ends up being the carrier but survives the crisis while his lover doesn't. I can't wait for season 3!

Laurie has been nominated for 3 Tony Awards in the past 5 years and shes won the past two years. She was also a Oscar nominee just last year. Of course, there isn't a huge demand for women over 60 on television, but Laurie's career is steady and she is critically acclaimed. She is starring opposite John Lithgow in a Broadway play in spring of next year. She's currently doing voiceover for Toy Story 4. Laurie's continued role on this show will be if she wants to do it, not that she needs to.
