  1. I grew up in Miami in the 80s and 90s....it was nice until the South Beach gentrification started in the late '90s. I remember going to the beach with my grandmother on a weekday (who was able to afford a small apartment two blocks away from the beach easily at that time) and only seeing a few older folks gathered around gossiping, but otherwise empty. I remember walking down her block with her and seeing apartment building after apartment building having rows of older folks sitting outside and chatting about the day. It was the Miami I loved, but will never see again, especially in this day and age of Instagram and the social media "influencer" BS. Even though I lived in a poorer section of Miami, I was still able to go out and hang out with my friends until dark with minimal parental supervision. My sister and I walked to the corner store by ourselves as kids while my dad napped. People looked out for other people's kids even as recently as then.
  2. Yup, never watching This Is Us either. It looks too overwrought for my taste. I think I've seen one MCU movie outside of Black Panther and while it was good, I couldn't tell you the name of it to save my life. Never saw Dirty Dancing even though I love Swayze. I felt like the pop culture references were all I needed to know about that movie.Same with Pretty Woman. I don't watch CBS so I've never seen Big Bang Theory and probably never will.
  3. His legal name is Kelvin, stage name Kevin.
  4. Diamond is so rude. She has a whole bed to share with Ella and chooses to purposely sit on Ella's hindquarters. I wish I could be as relaxed as Ella is when my personal space is invaded like that.
  5. This person I'm training is the worst training experience I've ever had. He is not remembering anything shown, makes zero effort to write anything down when directed and is so freaking slow. I hate this. I cannot wait until I am done with him.
  6. I aspire to reach this level of zen.
  7. I have a feeling that she's been married in name only for awhile now. I can't imagine that Kevin was home for meals very often. Probably kept appearances when Little Kev was small, but once he left the nest? I don't think so. Big Kev has been living with the side chick for a few years, I believe.
  8. I am headed to Austin next week for 3 days for a work function. Any good recommendations?
  9. I really don't get why cyclists (I'm talking about the ones that are hobby cyclists, in full gear) choose rush hour and the busiest intersections to go for their hobby riding. I just saw 2 almost get nailed because they were taking up a full lane of traffic and holding everyone up. How obnoxious.
  10. I didn't see him barking at anyone, considering he was passed out or near passing out most of the episode. He was already on a treatment plan, and Cookie came in and disrupted that because she decided she knew better than everyone else. The only time he raised his voice was to stop Cooke and Teri from getting into it. Andre has the right to tell his mother to back off when she's being too pushy. It's his health and his decision. Cookie was letting her guilt (UGH) get the best of her and needed to be put in her place.
  11. I hate Kingsley too. Right now, Empire is doing two soap tropes I really hate: 1) Have the loyal constantly shitted on wife of the misogynist violent cheating male lead just contemplate being with another man and is already twisting herself into knots and feels like she just has to reveal all because how dare she think with her genitals for once? How dare she find herself attracted to anyone else but MVCML? Makes me want to barf! 2)MVCML's earliest tryst with a pass-a-round results in a bastard child out for revenge. Of course, MVCML"s doesn't' even bother to question whether the child is actually his, no matter the circumstances surrounding conception. It's HIS.SON. (never a daughter) and a relationship must be forged at all costs. But if it was a girl child you can be sure 20 DNA tests would have had to be ran before she could even warrant a moment of his time. All Lucious anymore is is a R-rated black version of General Hospital's Sonny Corinthos. You're getting lazy, Lee. I'd really like to know how Lucious would have reacted if Cookie had been the one raped instead of Poundcake and got pregnant with an unwanted biracial girl child.
  12. My blinds look the exact same way! I used to own a cat that knew how to open the door. I remember one time I was really sick with the flu and came home and just passed out on the couch. I woke up hours later to the door wide open and the cats having the time of their lives running in and out of the apartment. I had forgotten to lock the door behind me. I can only imagine that people walking by must've thought I was some passed out drunk or something. Cats.
  13. Well, its official. After dealing with 3 days of his nonstop hacking, my trainee officially got me sick. I'm on the Coldcalm now. Great, perfect timing when I have a million things to do before I fly out next Sunday. I'm hating him and my supervisors so much right now.
  14. Shaderoom is reporting that Wendy filed for divorce from Kevin. Lets see if she has enough sense to go through with it.
  15. Really Cookie?! You just had multiple flashbacks of Luscious disrespecting you time and again with other women, and you are wringing yourself into knots over nothing? Girl, bye. Just because he did nothing with Treasure means nothing--we all know he's the type that will fuck around on you again when and if he feels like it and he won't feel bad about it. Ugh, I hate this kind of soap trope. I didnt mind Andre's girlfriend standing up to Cookie. Cookie was disrespectful bringing in the doctor no one asked for and attempting to disrupt Andre's treatment so she could feel like she is doing something as a mother. If I were Jamal, Kai would got beat the hell down with that pushiness. You left me and now I need space and you are going to insist on a relationship because you decided thats what you want now? Get the hell on with that foolishness. It triggered me because I had an ex like that. Typical narcissist. I always thought Smollett was just an average singer most of the time, but Jamal was always my favorite Lyon. Its annoying that he fucked up a good thing.
  16. My other post got deleted due to the redacted content so I'll circle back around to this. In addition to what @theredhead77 said, this comment is off-putting because 1) you are even including women that possibly have grown children and 2) very few women of a certain age want to hear that a man isn't mature enough to handle "X" situation. Being a joyful child at heart is wonderful, being a overgrown child in certain aspects of a relationship isn't appealing to anyone. Also, deciding the role you play in a child's life comes into play when the relationship is established, casually dating a mother will have very little effect on you because no one is expecting you to become a "parental figure" at that point.
  17. We are government, so yeah, generous sick time. He is on probation but I am 100% sure that he would not be let go for calling in sick if he brought in a doctor's note afterwards.
  18. I have to train a new person at work and the past 2 days he's been hacking away with some version of the flu an refuses to call in sick. I am furious with my bosses that I am stuck training him, especially since I have to fly for a conference on April 21st and it takes forever for me to get over something. This will be my first time flying since I was 12, and I am already super nervous about flying with my other health issues. I do not want to fly with a cold. I am already coming down with a sore throat and I am so pissed off about it. Stay home when you are sick people! You should be able to sue these thoughtless bastards. ETA: @tinkerbell As a Prince fan, I just couldn't resist:
  19. I would love to be able to tell Wendy Williams off, Whitney-style in real life. I think she is a nasty See You Next Tuesday and should be grateful everyday that she was given a talk show platform with her looks, and not be so nasty to her supporters. I only mention her looks because we all know plain-looking folks dont ususally get national platforms in the entertainment field. She was given a once-in-several lifetimes chance and instead of being grateful to the viewers who kept her on air, she's always acted like she's better than regular folks, except when she needs audience support. Someone needs to read her for filth, and I would love to be volunteer #1.
  20. Same. As for TWOP, I initially got drawn in because of their recaps and it took me a few years to get into the forums. The front page of the content portion of this site was visually unappealing to me so I've always just been on the forum side of things here.
  21. Didnt we leave off in '88? So really just a 2 year jump, thats not too crazy. Can't wait! I need my Pray Tell fix. Lawd, please let him make it through the '90s!
  22. Thank goodness for this. I don't have the energy to relearn a new forum section, just weeks after the last update. The name of the new site kind of bugs me, but I am appreciative of all behind-the-scenes who fought to keep everything as "normal" as possible for us.
  23. I know how you feel. All of South Florida is becoming the same way. My apartment isn't worth more than $600/mo in all actuality, but my rent is going up to $910 in June, which way under market for my area. Even the shittiest ratholes in the ghettos are renting at minimum of $1000. The only thing going for $700 is rooms inside someone's house. I don't think I could live like that, so I am extremely nervous as single woman in the coming years as the rich New York boomers continue to flood the area to retire. So many apartments have been demolished and rebuilt as "luxury" high rises. It's scary.
  24. Did she explain why her able- bodied ass was rolling around in a cart meant from the handicapped and elderly?! Of course not.
  25. Meh, even Beyonce and Whitney Houston were cheated on, so the looks part has little to do with it, IMO (although it certainly doesn't help her case). Nothing can force a man to stay or to keep it in his pants, but it's up to her on how she wanted to handle it once she found out what a dog he was. She appears to like the situation she's in, because she refuses to leave.
