  1. So I've been on a soul music kick all week. Every time Sam Cooke's "Yeah, Man" comes on my playlist it reminds me how Arthur Conley lifted the beat and background singers from Sam's song but didn't even bother to give him a shout out when listing the soul greats in his version! I love both songs, but its kind of sad that Cooke's estate had to sue for Sam to get a songwriting credit when its the exact same beat.
  2. I read somewhere (long before Aretha's death) that Queen Elizabeth always wanted Aretha to come to Buckingham Palace but Aretha was afraid to fly. It tickles me to imagine a younger Queen Elizabeth blasting Aretha records and singing at the top of her lungs when Philip got on her last gotdamn nerve LOL.
  3. I'm sure all of this was pre-planned by Aretha, just to remind us all that she is a true diva and intends to go out as such. I bet Mariah Carey is revising her funeral plans right now, saying "I must have at least 5 wardrobe changes, dahling". Gotta love that old-school diva attitude.
  4. I love that her funeral was just as extra as she was in real life. She is music royalty and deserved every minute of it. We will not see accomplishments like hers again in our lifetime--the music industry isn't designed that way anymore. That being said, this was one of the days where I really miss Prince, because his reactions to some of the stuff going on would have been top-level shade.
  5. Are you ok with staying part-time? Tell her you aren't interested because you prefer to stay part-time. If you are interested in obtaining a full-time position within the company but not THAT position, let her know that you don't feel you are a good fit for the position and try to explain why without bringing your personal feelings about your boss into it.
  6. Yikes. That Faith Hill performance was painful. Bless her heart. I about fell over when I saw Arianas lackluster performance and Bill practically drooling over her. Oh,Bill. I just want to sit next to Whoopi and gossip about folks. Fantasia's performance was awesome though.
  7. Starbucks is a great company to work for for part-time work, while you get back on your feet. I'd highly recommend it.
  8. I think I speak for everyone born between 1980-1984 when I say that it is extremely annoying for us to be categorized in the Millennial group. Most of us went to high school with X'ers and grew up watching the same shows, listening to the same music, wearing the same fashion. Notice how the other generations span over a course of 20 years, but X ends after only 15 years, almost purposely to keep us out . Yes, I HATE being called a Millennial as I don't feel like people born in the early '80s have similar experiences to anyone born in the '90s due to the increase in technology during that time. I mean, Google wasn't even a thing until I was a junior in high school. Anyone who had do research using the Dewey Decimal System deserves a little X'er cred, don't ya think?
  9. I was a barista at Starbucks and their reps would come in and hound me every morning, saying my personality would thrive at their company. My personality is plain at best, bitchy at worst. I finally took an interview, thinking "Why not?". I understood nothing they said except that the most important thing was to recruit more PrimeAmerica employees into the fold. Afterwards, it made me chuckle when I realized that most of their reps were my age at the time (18-20) and in no way were capable of having the education needed to be a true financial adviser and made me wonder what kind of idiots fell for their schemes.
  10. And so was my previous receptionist and retail experience prior to my current job. SMH. @bilgistic what about taking on a part-time job just to get your feet wet? Also, is there any local government jobs you are qualified for? I know for me that I was at my most unhealthiest mentally when I worked for small companies due to the pressure and lack of HR/ethical standards.
  11. https://www.cnn.com/2018/08/28/entertainment/hearse-aretha-franklin/index.html At least she is riding around in style. That hearse is gorgeous. From the article, the hearse is the same one that was used for her Dad's funeral, as well as Rosa Parks and David Ruffin.
  12. Switch that up from "FML" to "Oh, well". Remember, that they are losing out on meeting you just as much as you are meeting them. Start thinking of yourself as someone people should want to get to know, and your whole outlook will change.
  13. Please, please come to realize it isn't about you. A woman has her reasons for uploading or deleting her online profile or for not pursing a 2nd date. It is her right to do so and it is not healthy to take it as an insult. No one even owes anyone else a response or a stated reason for not pursing a 2nd date. It is a courtesy, not a requirement.
  14. So the neighbor who had the overly bright light just poured about a gallon of Pine Sol out on his patio and went inside. The wind is blowing the smell over onto my patio, and its so strong that my eyes are burning. He was sitting outside and I politely asked him if he could dilute the smell as it was unbearable. He said "First it was my light, now its this. I pay rent here too". I said "So do I, but the difference is I do nothing to affect your quality of life". He said whatever, and went inside his house without diluting the smell at all. I texted my landlord after another neighbor agreed that the smell was overbearing and haven't gotten a response so far. I hate this. I shouldn't lose access to the front patio I am also "paying rent" for because this guy is a jerk. I can't understand why she keeps him on a lease and me month-to-month. I hate complaining to her about this stuff. I just want to live in peace.
  15. So sorry @Bastet. I've never been able to fully shake that accident because it was so preventable. Just unload the cargo, dammit. So unfair that those 9 folks on-board lost their lives in such a fashion.
  16. Former President Obama's statement:
  17. Today marks 17 years since Aaliyah died in that awful plane crash. Hard to believe it was that long ago. She would've been 40 this upcoming January. I think its safe to say there would be no Rihanna or Ciara as household names, had she lived. https://people.com/music/missy-elliott-aaliyah-death-17th-anniversary-tribute-video/
  18. I didn't agree with much of his politics but was always grateful for and admired his service to this country as POW. Also, loved that he and Biden did not let politics get in the way of their friendship. Thank you for your service, Mr. McCain. RIP Maverick.
  19. In case you needed a pick-me-up....Have you ever seen a look of such joy?! It was a mutual love at first sight between us, but I can't have dogs and she's been claimed by another. Tomorrow she gets spayed and then I assume she will be picked up by her new owner sometime over my weekend. (Nope, my attack by a Rottweiler did not deter my love of the breed one bit. They are my breed of choice.)
  20. Take that part to heart. And this. A woman not being interested is just her choice and not a reflection of anything you did or didn't do.
  21. Yuck. Prime example of what NOT to write in your profile.
  22. Can we get Nicole Beharie as Samantha and Tom Mison as Darren or is it still too soon? Perhaps ABC could treasure what Fox could not.
  23. Yeah, I get that, but there was no need for those two to show such outward signs of exasperation. Charley wouldn't have done that if Nova had been the one to grab the mic. Nova is a real asshole sometimes.
  24. Dear Showrunner for Season 4:Please, please ensure that the pacing for this show is fixed next season. Tonight was awful....everything including the kitchen sink was thrown in the mix. Again, the land stuff is occurring mostly off-screen which is annoying as hell. I could have used less of Charley and Romero and more of Charley and the Landry siblings. I'm glad Propser got his land and home back though. Vi and Hollywood's wedding also deserved more than 10 minutes worth of screentime also. Hollywood is just a little bit too perfect though. I'd like to see his character more fleshed out in Season 4. Looks like drama is set up with Nova vs her family next season. I cringed when I saw RA's paternity test on her idea board. He is going to explode if she indeed included that in her book. I don't know what is with Kofi's acting choice of RA talking out of one side of his mouth, but is really starting to bug me. I actually had to google an interview to make sure it wasn't due to a medical condition of some sort. Micah's rally was great but I wanted to punch Nova when she rolled her eyes when Charley spoke up at the auditorium. Micah was mumbling and was too scared to speak up for himself. Did he want people to show up or nah? At least he found his voice at the rally, hopefully that's the last we will see of the Woke crew. Ah well, until next year folks. I already can't wait to see how much bigger the actor who plays Blue will be next year. That kid is growing like a weed.
  25. Sometimes it is up to the cat. Diamond does not like to go outside unless it is about 70 degrees and breezy. Living in FL that's 3-4 months a year and that is if we have a nice season. She's a diva and thinks the world should revolve around her so if I let her out onto my patio at this time of year, she goes out for a minute, looks at me as if to say "You already know it is way too hot for my liking. What were you thinking?" and runs back in. Ella likes to go out but I can't trust her not to run off and my apartment building is located on a fairly busy street corner and it isn't fenced in. So she goes out very rarely but I will open the windows often so they can get the smell of the outdoors.
