I don't get that poll? It's in 5th place but it's been up voted 455 times and down voted like over 600 times. Unless they are only ranking on up votes which if the case why have down votes to begin with?

3. Stephen Amell
. . .
Where we know him from: Stephen Amell pulls double duty on Arrow, playing billionaire Oliver Queen by day and vigilante superhero, the Green Arrow, at night. Oliver was kidnapped, dumped on an island, and when he made his escape and returned five years later… he was not happy. Arrow kicked off in 2012 and is still going strong, heading into its sixth season in 2017. The Green Arrow gets around, also appearing in other DC Comics series like The Flash (2014-2016) and Legends of Tomorrow (206).

Where he got his start: Stephen was born in Toronto. One of his first roles was on the Canadian teen drama Degrassi: The Next Generation in 2004.

Where to find him next: Arrow makes its return at the end of the month, with the sixth season premiering on January 25. You can check out seasons one through four over at Netflix.

1. Tatiana Maslany
2. Kiefer Sutherland
3. Stephen Amell
4. Michael Cera
5. William Shatner
6. Nathan Fillion
7. Cobie Smulders
8. Sandra Oh
9. Kim Cattrall
10. Matthew Perry

What are they basing the rankings on? Or is it just a random list? Because I think all seven people behind Steve have more name recognition.

I'm curious as well. The one thing could be that Arrow is currently still on TV. Whereas the other 7 below are not necessarily acting on current TV projects any more. They have a better overall resume & name recognition but if you look at TV 2016-17, I can't attach their names to TV projects.

Has The Odd Couple with Perry been cancelled? And while Cobie Smulders may not be on TV, she's part of the Marvel universe, which seems like a fairly big deal.

I think The Odd Couple it has been or is on the shortlist of cancellations. I recently read an interview with Matthew Perry that he is focusing on his life outside of TV acting. I know he has taken up writing. And I think that he is in a recent stage play.

Agents of SHIELDS is barely making it and I think she only had a guest bit on that show in 1 episode many seasons ago. She's not part of any other Marvel TV show. So Cobie is not known for Marvel TV.

Can Americans and Canadians tell their accents apart? Would Emily and Stephen have changed their accents?

I know a lot of Canadians get pissy if you mistake them for Americans, but I usually can't tell the difference in the accents.

As an American I can definitely hear Stephen's Canadian accent when he says certain words...not so much with Emily.  I don't know if that's because of where they both grew up (i.e. Toronto vs. Vancouver).  Western Canadians sound more like people from the Western U.S. than their equivalents in the East, IMO.

It also doesn't help that if you know other languages. Apparently I have an accent people say even though I can't tell.

I speak Greek and English.

Years later I was told by the mother of my then best friend that in seventh grade I walked around using an English accent the whole time.  I know I watched a lot of British comedies that year, but have no memory of doing an accent.

I'm impressed by people who can do accents and who have an ear to tell the differences.  I've just been watching Ryan Robbins do low German on Pure after his southern Conklin on Arrow last season.

I learned English in nursery school where my  teacher was from English so I spoke with an English accent through till my teens.  When I learned French, I reverted to my first tongue and spoke French with a Hungarian accent.  By that time my first language was so bad that In Hungary, I was asked what obscure village I came from.

I do not believe Oliver's instant facility with languages one little bit.

My Australian accent took on New Zealand notes from living there, and they stuck. But when I lived in America, I didn't pick up on their accent at all, I think because I just can't say A, R or H the same way they tend to.

I didn't even realise how strong my accent was until I lived in America, I eventually got by enough by making my accent almost British, but it was hard to stop all the slang. But when I visited Sth Carolina on holiday it was hilarious I would ask a question about a hamburger and a waitress would bring me a glass of Apple juice. They had no idea what I was saying and just guessed.

Do Emily and Stephen need a certain type of visa to work on Arrow, or because it's filmed in Canada is it considered a Canadian show?

My dad was in the Navy, so I lived in a lot of different places in my first five years.  In high school, I worked at Pizza Hut, and got a guy that called and quizzed me on all the toppings, plus some weird ones, so I was forced to say the words:  pineapple, capers, pimentos, etc.  At the end of the call he told me he didn't want to order a pizza, but instead he was a linguist who always called the local pizza place when he traveled to get the dialect, and he said I had no discernible accent--he couldn't figure out where I grew up.I think living in all those placed on the east and west coasts made me lose regional inflection.

That said, my Mom is from Canada, and her east coast New Brunswick and Newfoundland family have a super-heavy Canadian accent--they even end sentences with  "eh"--but the ones in British Columbia have no discernible accent. I do hear it more from Stephen than Emily.

You might be surprised how much you might have picked up not while not even noticing.  I mean you might have kept the more overt accents but flattened some of the sounds over all, but it would take probably someone that really knew your voice well from before to even know it.

I'm from Toronto and when I was in university, a housemate from Alberta once told me that I had an accent. To him, I sounded more American.

Spanish woman living in the West of Scotland here (where locals speak with quite an strong accent - think Glaswegian). My accent while speaking in English is weird as my teachers during school and high school mostly had an American accent but I have been living in Scotland for several years now.  Natives know that I am a foreigner with some Scottish sounds. Scots are unable to guess where I am from - I have been asked if I am Bulgarian or Dutch.

No, I don't believe Oliver's proficiency in Russian or Chinese either. I started learning English at six and I will never have a perfect pronunciation and my choice of words can be unusual for a native speaker.

That's funny.  I'm sure it varies but to me the East vs. West thing seems to hold from what I've generally observed.  In addition to listening to how Canadian actors speak, I have family in Toronto and my brother was at one time engaged to a woman from Cardston, AB.  I do find the Eastern Canadian accent to be more pronounced than the Western but I'm sure there are always exceptions.

Arrow: Felicity Smoak, computer scientist
Felicity worked her way up from IT girl in the first season to CEO of Palmer Technologies, Star City's premiere research and development lab. She's been building computers since the age of seven and regularly hacked government databases in her college years at MIT where she eventually earned her master's degree in Cyber Security and Computer Science. While she could use her knowledge for evil--she once used her advanced understanding of probability theory to count cards at an underground casino--she prefers doing good. Her primary function is serving as Overwatch, the central tech hub that helps Team Arrow keep the city safe from petty thieves, super soldiers, and extinction-level events.

NERD ALERT: THE RISE OF THE FEMALE NERD
INKOO KANG   February 2, 2017
http://www.mtv.com/news/2978386/nerd-alert-the-rise-of-the-female-nerd/

Quote

With the premiere of the otherwise unexceptional Powerless, Emily joins a sisterhood of nerdy females who dot the TV landscape — a sorority of women who’d never pledge a sorority. Their numbers have increased so gradually that their rise hasn’t garnered much attention, even though the recent narrative about the (mostly male) geeks inheriting the Earth has become a guiding principle in film development and TV programming. But the mainstreaming of female nerds in television — a process that began in the ‘90s — is a phenomenon worth exploring, as it marks a change in how we regard women’s intelligence, independence, and ambition.
*  *  *
Living well is the best revenge, the poet George Herbert wrote — and by that metric, nerdy girls and women should star in their own Tarantino flick. Theirs has been a quiet but steady vengeance, as smart female protagonists and fan favorites have vanquished their previous invisibility or two-dimensionality to claim their place in pop culture, though mostly on TV. The gradual fusion between the nerdy and the normal has heralded a greater acceptance of women who tend to prize their own bright minds as people worth humanizing and getting to know....
*  *  *
So is the concept that nerds always have their noses buried in a book. Halt and Catch Fire’s engineer Donna and programmer Cam, who found a tech start-up in the early days of the personal computer and follow its entrepreneurial potential to Silicon Valley, are just two of the female nerds toiling (and mostly thriving) in the STEM fields. Other science- and tech-minded women who’ve connected with audiences include The Big Bang Theory’s Amy Farrah Fowler, Arrow’s Felicity Smoak, Orphan Black’s Cosima Niehaus, and NCIS’s Abby Sciuto. Flipping through channels — or, more likely in 2017, scrolling through Google image search results — girls can now imagine themselves in a rainbow of nerd types.

Of course, we're talking about our annual tournament to find TV's top couple, and not about any actual warring. It's all peace and love here, with emphasis on the love. Now is your chance to nominate your favorite couple of the current TV landscape to make sure they make it into the list of 64 couples who will fight it out in the first round.

The round starts on Wednesday, so you only have until tomorrow (Tuesday, Feb. 7) at 5 p.m. PT to submit your nominations. You can do so by commenting below, or tweeting @eonlineTV with the hashtag #TopTVCouple. You know you want to.
*  *  *
Your nomination must be from a show that is currently on the air or wrapped in 2016 or 2017.

Your couple must have been a couple of some kind at some point on the air in 2016 or 2017. A kiss, a date, an admission of love (or even like)—all of that counts. (If we could count your hopes and dreams, we would, but we gotta stay realistic here.)
Otherwise, go nuts! (But please, be nice!)

Check back here at noon PT on Wednesday to vote in the first round!

Let’s face it, Felicity Smoak is the best character on television right now.

She’s hot, smart, and puts Team Arrow on the right path every time, in every episode of Arrow.

She’s not afraid to defend herself, doesn’t wait around for someone to see her value, she’s nerdy, she’s sassy, she’s even feistier than we first thought she was…all in all, Arrow would not be anything without Felicity Smoak.
*  *  *
When she was as real as you can get

When she flaunted her brain

When she got sassy

When she questioned her badass-ery

When she proved her badass-ery

Our 18 Favorite Ship Moments, In Honor Of Valentine’s Day
February 12, 2017  Caralynn Lippo

1. Olicity’s faux-wedding (Arrow)
.  .  .
Let’s be real: neither 2016 or 2017 have been good years for Oliver Queen and Felicity Smoak’s romantic relationship on Arrow. They’re particularly bad when compared to 2015, which was arguably their banner year – 2015 gave us the couple’s first time having sex, numerous “OMFG our hearts are exploding” declarations of love, and, of course, their eventual proposal.

But then, tragedy struck. First, Felicity was (briefly) paralyzed thanks to Damien Darhk. Then, there was the entire nonsensical “Oliver’s secret son” debacle. In the end, Olicity broke up and haven’t reunited since. To make things even worse, Oliver accidentally killed Felicity’s boyfriend Billy in the midseason finale. So… things are bad, to put it lightly.

But Season 4’s fake Olicity wedding – arranged to lure Cupid, who had been targeting high-profile couples, so they could take her down – is our light at the end of a dark, dismal tunnel. The wedding may have been a sham, but there was nothing insincere about Oliver’s vows to the woman he loves.

There was nothing forced about what Felicity said to Cupid about her own love for Oliver. And there was definitely nothing fake about Oliver’s face when he saw Olicity walk into the room in that gorgeous gown.

Wow, I realized that I don't have a lot of couples that I watch on TV. I used to always have a few couples in the running, not this year. The one couple I'm really rooting for will probably get killed in this round. It's only at 15% and up against an aggressive fanbase since it's a show I've never even heard of and yet made this list.

Their side a little too romantic has annoyed some fans but it must be admitted that the Olicity couple really loved and were very much in favor. She helped him back into the light as he taught her to trust her. A couple too exposed but no less devoid of deep feelings .

In the comment section Canadagraphs says he thinks it was the best written episode of Arrow.  And I'm pretty sure he was being sincere.  And dismisses any hate as pro Trump supporters.  I can understand how someone might have not hated the episode, but I am surprised at any of the "best" episode comments.

Canadagraphs has a tendency to think his personal opinion represents the majority or that he speaks on behalf of most critics and that anyone disagreeing with him has a secret agenda ,is a teen tumblr fangirl etc. He is your typical entitled reddit fanboy.

The comments section was interesting place. As of this post 20% ranked it the highest level and 60% as awful. I understand 80% of the voters (some parts of the show might have been good enough or not bad enough for people) - even if I only agree with 60% of them. I think the 20% that loved it may just be diehard fans who are going to love it no matter what. Or perhaps people who have never seen a well-written & well-acted "very special episode" that addresses political/social issues. Honestly, maybe this was some of the audience's first exposure to a gun violence/gun control conversation. So for them, it probably seemed better than "awful".

I also don't think whether you liked the episode or not falls on political lines. The topic was political, but the show was an awful mess regardless of people's personal politics & opinions on gun violence/control. And any more conversation of the political messages of the show would violate this forum's policy. I will say though that I disagree with Canadagraph's assessment of the episode.

I guess I can imagine when "very special episodes" first started in the 80's they got praised too.

Agreed that dislike for the episode doesn't need any political explanation.
