He comes and goes just like any of the other Fantastic Four villains.  That's the point of the Fantastic Four.  If anything, it's indicative of the scale and scope of the film and potentially the series.

I don't know, same could be said about Thanos but, it added a lot to the stakes of Infinity War and End Game having a build up to Thanos rather than just popping right into the final 2 Avengers movies.

While the current MCU doesn't need all the word building, I still think it would be better to start with a lesser villain and, build up to Galactus

However, we had the back fo Thanos in Avengers, a Teaser at the end of AoU and a cameo in GotG.  Casting someone who's only claim to fame in MCU was Unanmed Raveger makes me think this might just be a hint of Galactus and not full on Galactus.

That was my thinking, that adding stakes and building up to certain characters isn't particularly necessary, given their comic book origins.  Especially now that the MCU has already been established.  This gives them the opportunity to do large scale stories right out the gate.

The lesser to greater villain model works, but it's not the only direction for filmmakers to choose.  They can do greater to lesser just as well.  Or something else that falls in-between or outside.  There are different possibilities, especially given the overlapping and intersecting nature of the MCU and with how far comic book movies in general have evolved over the years.

Marvel’s Louis D’Esposito Reflects On ‘Rough Time’ At The Studio: ‘We’re Coming Back Strong’ – Exclusive
By Ben Travis   May 7, 2024
https://www.empireonline.com/movies/news/marvel-louis-desposito-rough-time-studio-coming-back-strong-exclusive/

Quote

... “It’s been a rough time,” Louis D’Esposito, Co-President of Marvel Studios, admits to Empire in the world-exclusive Deadpool & Wolverine issue. However, he sees Wade Wilson’s mutant team-up threequel as a sign of things getting back on track. “If we just stayed on top, that would have been the worst thing that could have happened to us. We took a little hit, we’re coming back strong.” That less-is-more ethos looks set to continue in years to come. “Maybe when you do too much, you dilute yourself a little bit,” says D’Esposito. “We’re not going to do that anymore. We learned our lesson. Maybe two to three films a year and one or two shows, as opposed to doing four films and four shows.”

For Marvel boss Kevin Feige, he’s seeing the positive side of the MCU being on the back-foot again – after all, back in Phase 1, that’s exactly where they began. “It’s nice to be able to rally behind one feature project this year,” he tells Empire. “I’m much more comfortable being the underdog. I prefer being able to surprise, and exceed expectations. So it does seem like the last year, which has not been ideal, has set us up well for that.”

Edited by tv echo

I feel like sticking to just two movies a year will be a big start. Although I do feel like there were several things that hurt Marvel that were out of their control. Like the pandemic means they released 4 movies in 2021 and then 3 in 2022 and 2023. If those movies had been spread out over 4 years the bad ones wouldn't be as noticable. There was also Chadwick Bosemen dying (Wakanda Forever would have been way better with him) and the whole James Gunn firing thing that pushed back GotG3.

Going forward though I think there will need to be some cuts. No one wants to wait 7 years for an Eternals or a Thor or a Dr Strange sequel.  A kid who saw one of those movies as a 12 year old would have graduated high school by the time they follow up. So either you cut some of those sequels or cut some other movies in development.

Trying to judge non-auteur screenwriters based on their track record is notoriously dodgy, since you never know for sure how many uncredited rewrites may have been done, what sort of directorial/studio mandates they were dealing with, etc. Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes was a solid adaptation of the source material, for what it's worth.

But by the same token, based on Marvel Studios' past track record, he may well just be the first of many writers to take a pass at this in the development phase.

STAR WARS Creator George Lucas Breaks Silence On Martin Scorsese Saying Marvel Movies Aren't "Cinema"
By Josh Wilding   May 25, 2024

In 2019, filmmaker Martin Scorsese opened a can of worms when he decided to make the declaration that superhero movies are not "cinema."
*  *  *
In a rare interview conducted at Cannes this week, Lucas was asked for his thoughts on Scorsese's scathing take on superhero fare (the topic turns to Marvel around the 8:00 mark in the video below).

"Look. Cinema is the art of a moving image," he responded. "So if the image moves, then it's cinema. I think Marty has kind of changed his mind a little bit." Lucas then shifted gears to talk about how he pioneered digital film and the fact many directors, Scorsese included, were initially adamant that he was doing the wrong thing.

While Lucas stopped short of sharing his thoughts on Marvel fare (saying "if the images movies, then it's cinema" may or may not be telling), he did offer a no-holds-barred assessment of Hollywood's current output elsewhere in this conversation.

"The stories they're telling are just old movies," he said. "'Let's do a sequel, let's do another version of this movie' There's no original thinking. The big studios, they don't have an imagination."

‘You Have a Big Mouth and a Crazy Mind’: Robert Downey Jr. and Jodie Foster Reunite to Discuss TV Triumphs and Being ‘Surprisingly’ Open to Iron Man Return

FOSTER: Would you think of putting the suit back on again for Tony Stark?

DOWNEY: It’s just crazily in my DNA. Probably the most like-me character I’ve ever played, even though he’s way cooler than I am. I’ve become surprisingly open-minded to the idea. Between “Nyad” and [“Night Country”] and, for me, “Oppenheimer” and then “Sympathizer,” it really is crazy because we look pretty good. I was actually looking at the stills we were taking, making sure: “Do we still look kind of OK?” I’m like, “We look pretty good.”

THR: Why ‘Blade’ Can’t Cut Through Development Hell

Quote

That could explain why Blade kept on shifting storylines and time periods. The version that was aiming to shoot last year was set in the 1920s, according to sources, and featured Mia Goth as a vampire villain named Lilith who wanted the blood of Blade’s daughter. (Goth remains attached to star in the project.) For another iteration, under Tariq, Marvel built a massive train set, but it was never used. (It may be passed on to a different Disney production.) The new take on Blade is said to be present day.

Assembling the Lakota | Marvel Studios' The Avengers

The Avengers Assemble to Dub 2012 Film in the Lakota Language
BY DEVAN COGGAN    JULY 5, 2024
https://www.marvel.com/articles/movies/marvel-studios-the-avengers-dubbed-in-lakota

Quote

For the first time in years, the original Avengers have reunited for a celebratory cause. Earth’s Mightiest Heroes joined together to record and dub Marvel Studios’ The Avengers in the native Lakota language, streaming now on Disney+.

As part of the project, Marvel has released a new behind-the-scenes video, giving a peek into the recording process. The video shows how the original Avengers cast — including Mark Ruffalo, Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, and Scarlett Johansson — reunited to rerecord their original lines in Lakota.

The Lakota Project was born out of an effort to help reintroduce and promote the Lakota language. Ruffalo had previously collaborated with the Lakota community on past projects, and he and the other Avengers were eager to get involved with the new dub.

The Lakota Project took over 15 months and involved 62 Lakota-Dakota language speakers, as well as the original Avengers team.

Sounds like the movie version of sacking the Disney Daredevil crew and bringing back the Netflix crew after the recent failures from going their new way.

I will never understand why Phase 4 was built the way it was. Marvel in the first 3 phases had a nice mix of expansion and reinforcement. Sometimes they teased new characters, and sometimes they brought tertiary characters back to keep them fresh in the audience's memory or expand their role. (Biggest example is probably Paul Bettany, who got an upgrade from VO role to onscreen superhero, but also smaller things like Sam Wilson guarding the Avengers compound from Scott Lang.)

Phase 4 was tilted way too far to expansion and the new characters introduced in Phase 4 got no reinforcement. And that lacking was made all the worse by the choice not to cap off phase 4 with an Avengers-style crossover movie or even something officially under the Avengers name.

But also, even if phase 4 had been a total success, the Jonathan Majors debacle would have required some kind of course correction, like at least a recasting. It sounds more like they're pivoting away from Kang altogether though.

That's a big issue for me, especially with so many more movies coming out plus shows it is weird how stuff gets dropped without even a little "remember me" kind of reminder like (Falcon showing up in Ant-Man). Like it has been almost 3 years since the Shang Chi movie and I don't think he has even been mentioned in another live action movie or show. And it will probably be even more years before he shows up again.

Kevin Feige Says Not to Expect Everyone to Come Back for the Next Avengers Films

But not everything that’s happened in the MCU in recent years will play a role. On the occasion of Deadpool & Wolverine, io9 asked Feige about the many, many characters that debuted in Phase 4. Can fans expect to see them in the upcoming Avengers movies or is there a chance we may not see some of them ever again?

“I rarely speak in absolutes like that, right?” Feige said. “The notion of never ever seeing somebody again, we’ve got Tim Blake Nelson in a movie coming up next year, right? So I never talk in absolutes like that. But the truth is, you know, we’re going to tell a story in these Avengers movies, and there won’t be room for 100,000 characters in it. So choices will have to be made, that’s for sure. But that doesn’t mean you won’t ever see anybody ever again.”

Then when it was asked whether this would be in a movie or show format, Feige said, "A show, yeah, yeah." As for when the project is slated to actually hit the small screen, there's still some time on that front, as Feige said, " It's three or four years out."

Wow about 25.6 million shares at what Google tells me is about $90 per share works out to about $2.3 billion dollars.

It still kind of blows my mind that for all of Perlmutter's shitty policies and super dumb cost cutting my favourite Marvel movie is still Winter Soldier which was made on his watch.

He said he sold over a few weeks (from the failed attempt to get Nelson Peltz on the board till May, when he said he finished selling) for an average price of $115/share, so a pretty nice premium over the share price today.

I know, why do good things happen to bad people.

I love RDJ, so I would be happy to have him back in the MCU. Also interesting to have him as Doctor Doom. I would also enjoy seeing him and Pedro Pascal work off each other.

I should also say I trust him as an actor and while I’m sure Marvel basically pulled the money truck up to his house, I don’t see him taking the role unless he saw something of value he could do with it. He has his pick of jobs and can do whatever he wants for stupid amounts of money, so it says a lot he’s stepping back into the MCU.

The Marvel dump truck is bigger than any other role would get him.  Plus he's in a win-win situation.  The movies do well?  All hail RDJ, savior of the MCU.  The movies suck?  Not his fault, Feige and friends have been ruining the MCU for years.
