S03.E11: Reunion

Recommended Posts

That Karen/Matt scene was fantastic at the beginning. I am sad that Karen had to tell Matt that killing was wrong and he essentially shouldn't kill Fisk. I truly believe that killing Fisk is the only way to at least halt the control he has on New York and leaving him alive leaves him so many more chances to control the entire city. I'm also disheartened that Foggy still believes that the law can help. For once, I'm fully on Matt's side here.

A lot of this episode is leading up to the final 2 episodes but I didn't mind it much.. We got Matt finally reunited with Karen and Foggy, and we have Ray finally in on who Daredevil really is. His face at the end was priceless.

It's good to see Fisk's plan slowly unraveling. I was so worried for the woman who had the painting in her home and am surprised that Fisk let her live.

I'm not sure that she said killing Fisk was the wrong thing to do.  I think she said killing would change Matt forever from the person he had wanted to be.

I like seeing the three mains back together on decent terms, but I'm glad they didn't rush the reunion.  There was a lot of ground to cover.  I'm glad Matt is starting to come out of it.

I was a bit surprised at a Holocaust tie in for the painting as I did not think it or the owner were old enough.

Fisk's intense, sudden rage always startles me.

I am really caught up in this season.  I binged a lot further and faster than I intended.

I feel like there was supposed to be some deep subtext to the standoff between Fisk and the lady with the painting, but I'm darned sure I don't know what it was. Just felt like a lot of dicking around because they needed Fisk to be offstage instead of managing the sh!% that was going down at the church.

Also, I get that this isn't the "Matt, Karen, Foggy, and Brett" show, but couldn't they have come up with something better for Mahoney to do than go "If ya'll find out something to take Fisk down, give me a call- we'll have your back. But in the meantime, I'm just gonna drop you white folk off at the corner. C-ya!"???

Matt and Karen getting up close and personal in a crypt in order to hide from the FBI and a psychopath is pretty much a normal dating night for them!

While I do appreciate Foggy's believe in the justice system and I certainly understand trying to imprison a bad guy instead of just go straight to killing, I do think Fisk is as the point where I don't know if I see another option.  Even if they get him sent to the super-max of all super-maxes, I still feel like he'd find some way to maintain power.  Hell, they could toss him in Gitmo, and I could see him still finding a way out.  The only other option would be if they find some way to get something on Vanessa (or, hell, capture her), because maybe that might be enough to hold him off.  Even then there would be so many variables (starting with Dex) that I don't know if it would just make things worse.

Glad to see Matt/Karen/Foggy back together.  Avocados at Law!

It is great to see Matt, Karen and Foggy getting along again. I loved all the scenes with Matt and Karen and was glad when Foggy was brought up. I loved him stalling for time. I like that Brett let them go, as he's been friends with them for years (and knows Karen is inocent). Especially with multiple witnesses saying she was the target. I think he has to kill Fisk, he would find his way out of prison. It's nice to see that Foggy still wants to follow the law as he is the one that grounds the other two. However, I don't think it's going to work. At least they have Nedeem who will be a witness. I was worried about his family for a second there.

What a great episode.

First, the scene with Karen and Matt, where they hash out a lot of the secrets they've held, in the space of a few minutes. Excellent chemistry between the actors, and way past time for them to reconcile. I'm glad Matt didn't get hypocritical or judgemental about her confession, because I think her biggest fear was that he would. Not about Wesley so much as about her brother.

Then throw Foggy in as well. Loved him trying to be righteously angry, only for Matt to burst his bubble by agreeing with him. And I do appreciate Foggy's belief in the law, but he's definitely being naive. Fisk definitely is too powerful and too rich to be locked up and forgotten about. Men like him don't see true justice, in the real world or in Marvel's.

Fisk selling the baying crowd on 'fake news' and redirecting their anger felt uncomfortably current, and made me realise - Fisk is the MCU's approximation of Donald Trump. A sleazy, New York real estate mogul, with designs on being more, and unknown depths to his criminal links and activities. 'I'm not your enemy. He's your enemy, and only I can save you.'

Ray redeems himself, or begins to. He definitely saved Karen's life, but without Matt, he and his family would be dead. Loved the moment where Matt shows his trust by revealing his identity. Always a big deal, in vigilante circles.

But Dex is losing it, and Fisk is losing it. Neither can handle failure or disappointment at all, and both react with shocking rage. I feel like Dex's story is just beginning though. If there is a season 4, I want him to be the main villain.

I am still scratching my head as to how Fisk got all charges dropped considered that in Season 1 when he escaped from custody he killed a bunch of law enforcement people. But I just will have to write it off to comics because the rest of the episode was really good. That scene with the Holocaust survivor was really well done.

I am curious to see what happens with Foggy's family but I suspect it will be some sort of immunity deal.

Except Fisk is smart....¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Ben Donovan explained it before Fisk spoke.  His convictions were reversed on appeal, and the government elected not to re-try him.  This does happen sometimes in real life, although the vast majority of criminal convictions are affirmed (upheld) on appeal.  Knowing Fisk, he probably got to at least two appellate judges (appeals are decided by three-judge panels) and the person(s) in the U.S. Attorney's office who were responsible for deciding whether to re-try him.

The racketeering and corruption charges getting overturned make sense. But I don't  see how the breaking out of a prison van and murdering cops possibly could. Even if you are falsely accused of something it is still a crime to shoot the prison guards and break out.

According to Hattley, Fisk was convicted on RICO charges only.  Tower or the  cop or both mentioned he was a cop killer at their meeting in episode 2, but Hattley stated that wasn't proved at his trial.

They really needed to give us some reason as to why that wasn't proven at trial, though. There was literally live video of a private army mowing down dozens of cops as Fisk escaped custody.

Really, that most comically and easily swayed protesters ever.

Dozens of signs, booing, basically burn in hell Fisk.

 "I was framed!"

Oh, really? We didn't know that! That is certainly not something anyone would lie about, tell us more...

Lesley Ann Warren! I knew I recognized her, and then I saw her name in the credits.

I'm trying to decide whether to watch the rest, or leave the last two episode for tomorrow. Glad that Ray is on their side, and that Matt knows he didn't want anyone to be hurt. Nice to see people helping them, because they know they're trustworthy, and good people.

I do love seeing the villains outsmarted, after they've been controlling things for a while. Seeing the smug look wiped off Dex's face was wonderful.

The actress is maybe five years younger than the character, a year younger than my mother would have been this year. She was born at the end of the second world war.

Is this libelous nonsense really necessary?

Yay! The team's back together. What a great episode. SO tense, but ultimately such a relief to see Matt and Foggy and Karen re-team up and Agent Nadeem do something good.

And a big HELL YEAH to Brett for his awesome stare-down of Dex. The man did not even waver. It was fantastic.

After so much darkness and so many episodes where the bad guys kept winning and crushing everyone in their path, it was great to see even the smallest measures of positive, from the woman (hi, Lesley!) standing up to Fisk over her family's painting, to Brett standing up to Dex and all the criminal FBI agents, to Matt's mom and the other nuns lying and hiding Matt & Karen in the church (I half expected a 'They're gone!' a la The Sound of Music, LOL), and of course, the reunion of the core 3. Just all so much good.

The best I got was the Federal government at the press statement still claimed he was a cooperating witness. And came back later with since he was he had FBI protection, with the dirty Feds in close escort, thus we the people shielded him from the State of New York just as is done for other criminal witnesses put into federal protection with new identities.

Witch real world makes me think there may be many in witness protection not to protect them from organized crime but to protect the position of elected Districts Attorney.
