I cringed when I saw those babies standing in open drawers and pulling on the dresser in the living room. Parents sitting there doing absolutely nothing to discourage this. God forbid that dresser were to topple over on one of these small children. I would absolutely lose my mind if I had to be in that house for one hour with that chaos.

I noticed that too.  I also was not a fan of all those babies walking around eating ornaments.

Those ornaments looked like they had little plastic sparkles and the parents talked about needing more hooks, yikes!  I know that looking after 6 toddlers is tough but it seems like these kids are into everything and the parents react instead of proactively taking precautions to baby proof the mobile home.  It's amazing to me that the kids haven't harmed themselves.

She was a first grade teacher! So either she does know how to control a group of young children and is choosing not to apply those techniques to her own brood, or her classrooms were always bedlam.

Birds will eat oats (and apparently they're a healthy food for birds).

I recall Eric saying in the past, all the oats were gone by morning.

When they dumped all that glitter in the oats the babies were handling it and eating it out of their hands..... The glitter I've used when crafting was little flecks of metal and not meant for eating.

I thought they went way overboard with the amount of oatmeal they used, each child nearly had a bowl full.... They were dumping that crap everywhere.

Leaving it like that all over the ground....birds would probably eat it and I doubt metal flecks are healthy for them either.

You are not supposed to put glitter in the magic reindeer food. You use cookie sprinkles or red and green colored decorator sugar. I didnt watch this part did they really put glitter in the food?

I'm sorry but the twin boys are brats.  They are really unlikeable, especially one of them (forget the name). I really feel sorry for the oldest boy. I also cringed seeing those babies standing on drawers. Those parents seem to have very little control.

I guess I am a scrooge, but in their living situation I would have not even bothered with a Christmas tree.  The little ones wouldn't care and the older ones should be able to understand that this is just for one year.

I have never heard of the tradition of feed the reindeer oats. I grew up in a city... But I guess if Santa is eating cookies and milk, the animals need their feed too.

We celebrated both Christmas and Three Kings Day, and on both days left out hay or grass for the reindeer and camels.

Would someone please slap me?   I just saw pictures of them at a ball park.  Okay, the kids look really cute at the play area.  They are all in red play clothes with a baseball on it.   All I could think when I saw the picture was "Rawlings will fit right in."

Are they back on the air with new episodes?  I missed seeing the new gleaming white kitchen that everyone just mentioned.

I guess I missed the first line of your post.  I obviously saw the post since I quoted you.   I tend to scroll pretty fast sometimes.   Anyway, I have set the dvr again for them.   They are an improvement over all the other multiple shows---at least so far.  I hope they quit soon and go to just a yearly follow up type show, but somehow that never happens once these families start airing their private lives.

They said it was "glitter" and it was in the exact same type of container as the glitter I use for crafts and when they dumped it out it looked like crafting glitter.

I'm hoping that maybe they call baking sprinkles "glitter"... It comes in similar containers.

Who is taking the gymnastics class - jumping exercise/skill - the toddler or the adult friend?

Not sure.  It isn't Rawlings, because they were bragging on how she was doing.   The woman jumping asked the girl if she wanted to jump and she indicated she was happy for the woman to jump.  I can't keep up with the children's names, much less the adults.

I was confused about the trip to the McWane center in Birmingham. I thought they said they went on Christmas Eve, but it is usually closed for holidays including Christmas Eve.  Maybe TLC arranged for it to be open just for their group, although I thought they said other people were there.  It is about an hour and a half to Albertville so I bet the sextuplets fell asleep on the ride back which would explain their not being sleepy when they got home.

If I were Courtney, I would just have decorated a tree outdoors with lights.

The upstairs rec room for the older kids is really nice.

It was filmed on pretend Christmas Eve like all of the reality shows film on preten holidays.  Camera crews and production do not work on the holidays.

what I loved was all of the activities made sense, short in time duration and was low/normal budget. When the toddler was tired/uninterested, the parents pivoted or stopped .

Unlike another TLC mega-baby family that would have spent every available dollar and whined they might not be able to go b/c of work:

  • Frosting cupcakes at a small local bakery
  • Feed geese bread and playing on the slide at a park
  • Roller skating on the road and sitting in a field watching animals
  • Shooting basketball at a community center or church.
  • Being a cowboy, riding a miniature horse at a farm/petting zoo {side note - Eric - is scared of horses?? - huh? the self made outdoorsman/farmer}
  • Princess PBJ tea party complete with toenail painting in the backyard

I slept through all but about 5 minutes of this show. But I did wake up when they were talking about doing something special with each baby. Thought about the Gosselins. TLC msut be running out of ideas. Did they ever say why named a child Blu or Tag or Bridge? And I have to say I'm from the south. I have lived in the south all of my life granted not in a rural area. But I have never ever heard anyone speak with an accent like Courtney and her dad.  It's worse than listening to  Paula Dean.

Not sure I'm getting your point...female geese are known as geese the males are called ganders.

JMO but to me it would sound kind of stupid to say "all the female geese are pregnant" since we all know that it's obviously the female geese who are pregnant.

I'm curious what you think he should have said?

RE: the month March & the geese and her eggs

This article, a little dated, was written by the Tuscaloosa news... I can't remember if the family is closer to Tuscaloosa , Birmingham, or ??.  ( source )

"The annual life cycle for resident geese begins in late winter when adult pairs return to nesting areas in late February or March, as soon as the weather conditions moderate in the spring. Egg-laying (one to two weeks) and incubation (about four weeks) generally last through April, with the peak of hatching in late May to early June.
Geese will aggressively defend their nests, and may attack if approached. Nonbreeding geese often remain nearby in feeding flocks during the nesting season. After hatching, goose families may move considerable distances from nesting areas to brood-rearing areas, appearing suddenly at ponds bordered by lawns"

Geese aren't mammals. They don't get pregnant. "Pregnant" refers to the gestation period where the embryo develops in the mammal's uterus. Geese don't have a uterus. They lay eggs that may or may not be fertilized. If the eggs are fertile, the embryo develops entirely outside of the goose's body, which is not the same thing as being pregnant. It is called oviparity, whereas pregnancy is viviparity.

Got it 👍

I didn't think anything of his comments because as a kid raised on a farm when the chickens started brooding we were told to leave the chickens alone, they're pregnant and hatching their babies.... Not scientific but it did the trick, we left the chickens alone and waited for the babies to be born. 😉

Did you realize that the chicks were hatching from eggs, or did you think they were actually being born?

That's a good question

I don't really remember what I thought..  I knew they had eggs and that the chicken has to keep them warm but anything beyond that I can't remember what I thought

I remember my brother finding an egg on the ground one day while we were playing outside and it was cracked, part of the shell was missing and there was this gross lizard looking thing inside and he told me it was a chick that didn't have its feathers yet, I was shocked and kind of scared and I wouldn't eat eggs anymore!

Even after all these years I have a hard time eating eggs, I'll do it but it's kind of like "hold my nose and swallow"  😂

I totally agree with you about not eating eggs. They're gross. I can't even stand the smell of them.

I just thought your comment was interesting because I had always been told that farm kids learn the "Birds & Bees" stuff earlier than city kids, since they see everything first-hand. Maybe some explanation is required, after all.

I was youngest and more importantly female...

I remember my brothers being taught everything about the farm how to operate all the equipment and how to look after all the livestock.. animals giving birth etc.

My sisters and I spent most our time in the house learning from my mother, she taught us to knit, darn, sew, cook, do laundry, keep the house tidy etc. which seems kind of crazy to me now but at the time all the farm family's did the same thing so it felt normal.

I was really impressed with how serious Eric and Courtney were in regard to safety and self-isolating.  I think a lot of it may have been driven by Eric, as he feels the burden of being the only money earner of a family of eleven.  Eric wiping down all the groceries and then disinfecting anyone he came across was cute, but realistic.

They were both concerned about the community in general, and Eric expressed the hope he wouldn’t have to lay off any of his workers. I currently live in the South, and I haven’t seen this attitude in a lot of people.  He also showed concern for the safety of the construction workers when they came back to work on the house.

Now that the positives are out of the way, there is absolutely no reason for the big boys to be inside, especially when they’re jumping on the damn couch, and teaching the babies to do the same.  They live in a child’s paradise of land and nature, and live in one of the hottest states. I was outside season round when I was a kid, and I’m from Chicago!  I’ve heard stories of mothers who kicked the kids out after breakfast, and told not to return until lunch.  These are very active, athletic boys.  Why they inside breaking the furniture?

I would also be taking those babies out a lot during the day. Make use of sunscreen and shade, and have Eric throw up a makeshift fence that would keep the babies within a certain area.

Question:  Why did I think that Eric’s company was construction?  It sounded like the financial adviser said lawn care. Maybe a landscaping business versus the typical lawn care?

Eric built a fence in their yard last season for the 2 yr olds. I caught a glimpse of it last night...

Will update this post later to specially mention the scene.

He knows alot about Construction. I think that is why he is acting like the construction/project manager for the house re-do. His main gig is landscaping. I think they showed a project/scene before. he wears shirts with the name of the company.

What confused me is that the production company closed up shop, packed up and left the farm pretty early on. Then later on they show scenes where someone is filming when they are together on the couch and it looks professionally done. Maybe they filmed the talking heads scenes before they left?

If I had to live in that mobile home with 6 two year olds and the older boys destroying things and dumping food and toys all over the place I would lose my mind. It looks like Courtney lets them have free rein to go wild in the house.

I suspect they are outside when not filming.  I had to be heading for home as soon as the street lights came up, but other than that we just roamed the neighborhood on bikes.   I would love to live on their land.

I thought the beds for the girls were unnecessary and that  the girls could have continued to sleep in the big bed if they put those side things up if they were worried about them rolling onto the floor.   On the other hand, maybe they just wanted to preserve their bed in good condition.  If I had bought the little girl beds and put them in the parents' bedroom, I would also have swapped out one of the sofas for a sleeper bed.  I have known several large families where the children take up all the bedrooms and the parents have a sleeper sofa in the living room or den.

I think Eric was there when the big boys were jumping from the top of the couch onto the cushions. I wonder if they’ve always been permissive with the oldest three, or if they’re just worn out from multiples.

I don’t understand why the toddler beds couldn’t replace the girls’ cribs in the room. Maybe they didn’t fit, but if the three girls are fine on mom and dad’s bed, remove the three cribs and give them a full. It’s ridiculous that they’re sleeping on the couches, and Courtney, presumably, would be on the love seat.

RE: girls sleeping arrangements...since it is supposedly for the short term - I would have put the mattresses on the floor, which are the same length width of the crib. no danger in getting hurt falling.

now I guess they could get stepped on... or the 3 bothers get jealous and want the same.

Eric and courtney always giving up their sleeping arraignments is admirable, but also not exactly fair.  Husband and wife sleeping on separate couches in the living room ? I guess private  adult time is where ??
