S43.E10: Sam Rockwell / Halsey

I was really interested in reaction to this one. The "Me, Too" skit, the ATM skit and the Drunk Boyfriend took contradictory positions on knee-jerk issues. I was sure some people would be offended, and looks like that's true. I actually liked the fact that the "Me, Too" skit showed how silly it can get.

Cold Open: What is the fascination with Morning Joe the show, and Morning Joe the guy and his relationship with his cohost (I know they are dating)? The set up is annoying, and takes away from the actual skit. I thought Murray looked kind of lost. He did deliver a couple of lines well.

Monologue: Sam tried hard. It felt like he was embarrassed, though. Maybe he's uncomfortable in the limelight, and that's why he is so good as a character actor.

The Science Room with Mr. Science: A cliched concept, but still some good laughs. In the MTZ we didn't hear the F bomb.

Lil Pump: I had to look up Stanley Tucci to see if he had died. It was nice and all, but why?

Red Carpet Rundown: One of my favorites. Poked fun at the silliness of trying so hard to keep up with what the "woke" crowd condemns and supports, and how will-nilly it all has become. 

My Drunk Boyfriend: I like bourbon, but I've never seen people like this (male of female, robots and humans). They really exist?

WU: Enh.

Captain Hook: Yep, through the ultra-sensitive lenses of today, even classic children's tales look sketchy. That's the world we've created. 

ATM: Heyyyyy, wait a minute. So there *are* black guys who scare you, and some will rob you? So maybe it's OK to be nervous in some situations? Because it's about behavior, and not color? Stop talking sense, SNL!

Boyfriend: Oddly short. At first I thought the wife and husband were partners in watching gay porn. Aidy just kept smiling and nodding. The husband's abrupt "My marriage is over" caught me off guard. This either needed a longer set up to the realization as a close, or a less open acknowledgement of where the husband saw the actor before.

Genetics: Aw, great dog. And oddly, the same sketch essentially as the boyfriend ... once the context was clear, the marriage/funding is over.

Chantix: I actually don't recall this one.

I think the point of the Aidy sketch wasn't to skewer Wahlberg or the pay gap generally, but to comment on the socialization that tends to cause women to "try to be nice" -- like Michelle Williams presumably saying "Oh for sure" when asked to reshoot for minimum union rates -- whereas men are more likely to just be like "Uh, no" -- which is presumably what Wahlberg did.

And just imagine the comments had it been Michelle Williams who said, "Uh, no" and Mark Wahlberg agreeing to work for scale.

Loved the opening sketch with Fred and Bill, great job.  Baby races, bwahaha.  "Is it true? " "Oh, yeah, sure, ok."  Leslie Jones as Oprah was fantastic.  Between Omarosa and Oprah, she's got some great parts lately.

I like Sam Rockwell, he's definitely one of those great "its that guy!" actors.  

The science guy skit was funny and I could so feel the frustration.

OMG totally.  I don't think I can ever watch PP again without thinking this.  Course, knowing a bit more about the writer doesn't help either.

WE - again, very good, loved seeing Steadman and Oprah.  Less so with Ball.

Drunk boyfriend - really?  why? who would ever get that?

Boyfriend - agreed that it ended just a little quicker than I expected.  I wondered if Rockwell kindof jumped the gun there and winged it.

Halsey was ok.  Fine voice, but othewise just didn't get the hype.  Looked a bit like a Miley Cyrus clone tbh.

It's irrelevant, but Morning Joe Scarborough and co-host Mika Brezinski are engaged.

Sam Rockwell is completely forgettable, but gets an A for effort.

I thought this was a great episode, but I've loved Sam since The Green Mile, and Three Billboards was my favorite movie of 2017, so I may be biased. 

I think the lab sketch was my favorite, but I liked all of them. Even the singer, who I've never heard, sounded good. I really liked her first song. She gave me more of a young Pink vibe.

The first thing I think of with Sam Rockwell is Galaxy Quest. Love that movie, and he was great in it. The second is probably Confessions of a Dangerous Mind, where he played Chuck Barris (The Gong Show). I've seen him in other movies, but those are the top two that always come to my mind.

I too was disappointed that the tribute to Stanley Tucci kept repeating a small number of very well-known movies -- I wanted them to start listing everything (with a special shout-out for my favourite, The Impostors).

A lot of the sketches felt very rough and lacking in structure and pacing. For example, why did they start the one with the porn star boyfriend with the parents without giving any insight into their characters? They could have opened with the son and his boyfriend discussing their anxiety about meeting the parents and what the parents did and didn't know. Or if they opened with the parents they could have established that the father was a pastor etc. I assume they thought it was funnier that the pastor thing came out of left field, but to me it felt like 12-year-old boys had created the sketch and didn't have any idea that sketching some type of character before you subvert it is actually funnier. They could have saved the pastor thing until later if they had layered some other personality traits on the father. He just didn't seem to have any -- none of them did.

I liked the premise of the gay porn skit, but the timing was so off it flopped to me. Not sure if someone missed some lines or they just didn't rehearse, but it could've been really good. In fact, it could've been longer in my opinion, assuming the fixed the issues.

I feel like the Captian Hook-is-creepy-hanging-with-small-boys skit has been done before somewhere. It wasn't very fresh to me. Same with the Mr. Wizard spoof. This episode just felt stale for the most part.

I'll go against the grain: I didn't like Aidy's segment at all.  The problem with it was it was inaccurate.  Reports have stated why each actor got paid their amounts and it comes to one person had a better personal talent agent and had stipulations in writing about reshoots.  But people see the headline and are up in arms and target the wrong people in the process. 

Also, Aidy has been in more than one movie. She just had a fairly big part in "The Big Sick" last year.

Regarding Aidy's WU bit, I see her point but it wasn't funny.

Chantix:  Faux commercial with Cecily playing a "real person not an actress" but she's done community theater and Chantix may have the side-effect of causing the over-estimation of one's own talent and in the end she's puffing on a cig. 

A sample of the Gong Show (and yes, it really was horrible) really should include The Unknown Comic.

Just watched this the other night.  I have been a fan of Stanley Tucci's since Murder One, but I have never seen nor have I any desire to see the Devil Wears Prada.  

On a personal note while I personally have never done it and I know one of my male friends had this issue the only people I have ever witnessed being blackout drunk and peeing like that have been women peeing in the wastebasket.  My mother did it countless times, I saw it happen a few times at college parties, and my ex wife did it 2 times.  I imagine it occurs way more by males but based on personal experience, it was only women who did it while I was there and I have been around way more drunk guys than women.  I didn't see it but my friend apparently got home from one of our nights out getting hammed back in our late teens and woke up from being passed out in his parents basement couch and took a picture of his cousin down from the wall and peed all over it and fell back asleep. He has no memory of doing this nor had any animosity towards this cousin. So weird.  His sister found him and the picture in the morning.
