Season 19 Spoilers & Speculation

This isn't season 19 stuff, but Julie Martin tweeted that on March 1, they will release the mysterious deleted scene from last season where Rafael received a gift of chocolates, but had to cut it when the episode order was changed up. I guess they are chocolate almonds and they were from Olivia. I'm hoping there is a treasure trove of Barisi scenes out there somewhere, but I'm not holding my breath.

So I'm guessing the S18 MOD DVD won't have extras and those - like this - are being released online.

Huh. I guess that deleted scene has already hit Tumblr. You can tell what episode this was originally in. I can't remember WHY the episodes were mixed up (I think "Know It All" had to do some reshoots or something for some reason), but this is an example of the few times that episodes actually build on a story and aren't interchangeable. Hence why the scene had to be deleted from its original episode.

Had a site come up about Raul Esparza and that musical "Chess" he's starring in. Looks fun. But guess who's in it too? Karen Olivo. "October Surprise". Remember? The wife of Barba's best pal that Barba had obviously had a bangfest with...after she married his best pal? Whaddya know...Barba and Yelena Munoz..together again! Small world. :)

The thought of a deleted Barson scene where Barba gets chocolates from Benson, nauseating. God I hate all things “Barson”, it completely ruined Barba and turned the show into a ridiculous cringeworthy soap.

Why did she give him cheap ass chocolate almonds in the first place? That's what I wanted to know. Because they were so close she knew they were his fave or something? Every woman he ever dated would have known that. Big whoop. Was it cut because it was just stupid ( wait a minute...not this show) or was it a Barson ship and they changed their minds about doing that? I bet if they put all the cut scenes on a reel we we would have a real laugh fest at all the stupid crap we were spared and at all the crap that actually made it on screen. You know, Barba's last scene with Benson...Jack McCoy wanted him to stay ( why not? Jack was dragged through the crap publically for much worse, Schiff gave him crap cases for years after and it took a decade for McCoy to get his rep back enough to even think about running for DA), I think Barba had to resign because if he stayed, he would have to continue working with Big Ole' Bitch and considering she almost ruined his life (career), he knew he had to get away from her or she would finish the job. He said "I have to move on". That's pretty much the fave universal line guys give when they dump a woman. He was "moving on" from her. He had to or....die? IMHO.

The deleted scene was originally from "Genes" which was presumably the original next episode after "Know It All". However, the episode order was mixed up, with "Know it All" airing AFTER "Genes", so this scene wouldn't have worked if they had kept it in "Genes", nor could they put it in the episode that actually aired after "Know it All" ("The Newsroom"), because the discussion was about the genetic rapist. The gift as not a Valentine's present or anything. It was a welcome back from 30 days suspension gift from Olivia. I wouldn't consider it romantic at all, but rather friendly. They are good friends, and she obviously hadn't seen him the 30 days while he was on suspension, which really doesn't point to any sort of romantic connection between the two.

I honestly don't think Rafael and Yelena had an affair after she married Alex. It isn't exactly clear what happened, but my interpretation is that she and Rafael were dating at one point and then she ultimately chose Alex. Or just she and Alex were dating all along, but both knew that Rafael desired Yelena. But just based on the conversations in "October Surprise", I really do think Yelena dumped Rafael for Alex. Which, if so...she chose poorly. :) :) :)

Nope. In "October Surprise" Alex tells a crowd he met Yelena at a shopping mall. He was running for Mayor. He wouldn't point that out if she was already dating his best amigo. State Senators have to work in Albany.  His wife and kids probably stayed at home in the Bronx and he came home on weekends...standard lifestyle for state senators. Probably asked his amigo in NYC to "look after" his wife  while he was away showing his penie to underage girls. PLENTY of space there for a hookup. That's why Yelena blamed all the trouble on Barba wanting to be the only Cubano Grande instead of the truth. If he had taken Yelena away from Barba he would have hit him in the face with that jealousy bit instead of throwing everything in Barba's face BUT that. I feel that's why she came to Barba alone and asked if it was "in any way about us". She couldn't have that conversation in front of her husband. "What us Yelena?"

Barba was a baaad boy Scorpio. With a LOT of secrets. Even from his "best friend". :)

Link to comment

But Alex did throw the jealousy back in Rafael's face, when he sniped at Rafael that he was still upset that Yelena was the only woman for him. If Rafael and Yelena actually had an affair, I don't see how Alex would have remained friends with Rafael. He doesn't seem like the type who would forgive such an indiscretion from his oldest friend.

Alex didn't know. And Yelena wasn't going to bust herself at that stage in the game. Alex just accused Barba of being jealous he married Yelena. Instead of staying single like Barba and remaining besties. Alex went off and married, started a family, left his best amigo. We saw this repeatedly between Benson/Barba. Everytime she got a new hookup Barba got jealous and crappy with her. Like it was some kind of betrayal of her best friend. She was BARBA'S bff...and she's supposed to be his bff ALL the time. How dare she give her time and attention to someone else! Ever known a Scorpio? POSSESSIVE. Even with friends. That's why the "romance" angle was so silly to me. Barba wasn't jealous because he was in love with her....he was jealous because she was HIS best friend, nobody else's...how dare she not spend all her spare time showing attention to Barba! RE played Barba right out of the Scorpio man's playbook....Barba was his creation remember? Jealous, possessive, even with friends. When your best friends with a Scorpio you can't have any other bff's! You belong to them! My mother is one. Oct.25th. watched this play out my whole life. Don't hookup with a Scorpio unless your happy to be theirs and theirs alone! Otherwise you have betrayed them. A Scorpio wouldn't wait six days for a woman if he wanted her much less six years. And walk away (run?) from her? Hay ell no. Jealous possessive full attention needing little shit. Benson got a kid...he tried to be nice to it but...it took attention away from him. BETRAYED! IMO he probably kind of hated her for doing that. "oh, right, responsibilities". That's why he was always asking her for drinks and dinner. In truth, that kid was competition for his bff's attention. He tried but, no use.. she's keeping the kid. "I have to move on (I can't compete with that brat for my best friends attention any more). She probably will never hear from him again. When a Scorpio is done with you, they're done! :)

And it’s without question I’d much prefer to see Munch or Cragen put in an appearance. I think it’s been since S16 for Cragen and S17 for Munch. Noah would be more bearable if we saw Grandpa Cragen or Uncle Munch playing catch or something with him. I wonder if Florek and Belzer are enjoying their retirement and don’t want to occasionally film a show or if the crack monkeys in charge are too busy with the current drivel to consider asking them back.

Richard Belzer has had some health issues as well as some unfortunate events in his personal life that probably have kept him from appearing as often as the producers might like, given that Munch is such a popular character. I don't know anything about what Florek is doing, although I suspect he would be happy to appear more if the producers were interested. I'm willing to bet that we'll see them again before the end of the series, and I would love love love to see Munch a few times a year, but only if we got to see him interacting with Fin and the ADA (since he's working for them now) instead of what we usually get which is another example of using the guest star to tell us how special Benson is while ignoring all of the obvious wonderful story opportunities they provide.

I would love to see Munch and Cragen back, they are sorely missed now. Belzer did look to be in poor health inhis last appearance and yeah his personal life has been difficult, a lot of Munch’s tragic backstory resembles Belzer’s. Don’t know about Florek/Cragen or what he’s up to. I think both actors would make appearances if the writers asked them to, but the writers are too busy kissing Mariska’s ass to focus on anything else, anything that isn’t Benson related doesn’t matter anymore.

Do we need a clarification here when it comes to the story line here? It's the executive producers who make the call on the overall plot and the writers try to figure ways that make it plausible, right? I think we (or definitely me at first) may have put too much blame the writers.

Meeeeeeeeeeh.  We've already had the detective gone vigilante, and we've had the guilty doctor gets whacked once or twice already.

True. But at 19 years in, it's sort of difficult to cover fresh ground.

I don’t think Cassidy will be the killer, I don’t think they would have him go vigilante, especially since it would make Benson look bad having slept with a killer and defending him from people.

But yeah this whole storyline seems reminiscent of Lead from season 10.

OK I read that it's Carisi's niece's classmate that gets sexually assaulted not his niece.

No it’s Carisi niece, the promo showed that. While I’m glad Carisi is getting more focus, I dislike the personal stories and I really hope Carisi behaves like a professional and doesn’t let his emotions get the best of him. He did behave like a professional when his sister’s fiancé was raped by his PO, so hopefully he will remain a professional, him and Fin are the only objective ones on the squad.

This is just great. So now they are screwing Sonny as well. He was taken off the case that involved Tommy so yeah.

I can exclusively reveal that Seinfeld alum Wayne Knight will guest star on SVU as the manager of a seedy motel that becomes a crime scene when an escort is raped. His episode is slated for April.

Sounds interesting, should be a grittier, more real case like what SVU used to do instead of another case about the rich and famous. I feel like this season the writing has been a lot fresher for the most part and is dealing with a lot more than he said-she said rape cases between the rich and powerful, just look at the last 2 episodes, both something very different.

In the sneak peeks for the next episode, we find out Carisi’s niece is a student at none other than the rape capital of the galaxy Hudson University! Hasn’t her uncle warned her about the extreme dangers of going there!

Also interesting is how when Carisi bitches about how Stone doesn’t have experience prosecuting sex crimes, Benson suddenly starts singing Stone’s praises and talking about how he’s a strong lawyer. It’s a funny change from how 2 episodes ago Benson refused to shake his hand when introduced to him and told him “I hope you suck” to now singing his praises, I understand several months have passed in universe, but it’s still a funny change from “I hope you suck” to talking about what a good lawyer he is.

So Churnuchin revealed in an interview that they are going to bring back another big character from the L&O franchise but he wouldn’t say who. Any guesses or hopes for who it might be? If it’s from SVU, I hope it is Munch, Cragen or Huang, if it’s from the other franchises, I would love to see Ed Green return, also Robinette, or any of the prosecutors really, also it would be nice to see Eames again. Any thoughts?

I would love to see Dr. Huang/BD Wong, Cragen/Dann Florek, Judge Donnelly/Judith Light, and Murphy/Donal Logue. Cragen is the most likely of the 4; I can see him being brought back in to guide Benson and straighten the bunch of them out.  I only want to see undercover-type scenes with Murphy; I have a deep-seeded wish that we find out he isn't the baby daddy after all (God know, Rollins has banged quite a few people) and that is why we haven't seen him in over 2 yrs.

Murphy was ruined when they made him Rollins’ baby daddy, I really liked him in season 15 and I wished he had stayed on as SVU’s commanding officer, and it would still be cool to see him again assisting with a case but I think all they will use him for now if he returns is to create more Rollins’ drama, and I don’t think they would go back on him being Rollins’ baby daddy, as that would make Rollins look like even more of a slut and I don’t think they want to do that.

Cragen is who I kind of think it is that’s returning, he’s sorely missed now, he was actually objective and unbiased unlike Benson, and it would be great to see him come back and help out SVU and meet Peter Stone.

Huang would be good as well, since he’s dropped in several times since he left the show I could see him coming back at any time.

This is an unpopular opinion but I always disliked Donnelly, she was extremely bitchy and self righteous and I always kind of thought she had a conflict of interest dealing with SVU cases since she worked so closely with them, and it was rather strange how she went from Bureau Chief to Judge and I don’t recall them explaining it. I just never liked her.

If I had my choice of who would return it would be Ed Green, we never found out what he was doing after he resigned and he was one of my favorite L&O detectives, plus he knows Benson and Fin and it would be interesting to see him interact with them again.

Lupo or Bernard would be interetsing as well, I would assume they are still in Manhattan Homicide, one of them could easily come in and assist SVU in an investigation.

Also seeing Paul Robinette and Peter Stone interact again would be cool, I would like to see them reminisce about Ben Stone.

Interesting, I hadn’t thought of Cabot, it will be interesting to see her return, I wonder if she will still be an ADA or doing something different, and I wonder if we will see her in court. I assume this is who Churnuchin was talking about when he said a major character was returning.

If they don't change the format, it will be. Carisi, Fin, and Rollins making minor appearances concerning the investigation, then Cabot and Benson will initially exchange pleasantries and finally will argue most of the time concerning the investigation or the prosecution. Is it the intention of the producers to bring back former characters for the spring episodes? Considering she was a regular, she will probably just have a little character flaw that Benson will understand or justify and subsequently change back.

If they brought a guest star back, like attorney Claudia Williams (Pam Grier). I wouldn't be surprised if they turned her into a corrupt government lawyer, just to give Benson someone high up to take down. Remember that FBI agent Lewis, I didn't like how they changed her character.

Considering that Donnelly has seen numerous spousal abuse cases over the years, you would think she would be more compassionate to the beaten wives, especially from the episode of "Persona". Donnelly was prosecuting a wife who killed her husband because he was always beating her, but she escaped, changed her name, remarried and started a new life until she was found out (during another spousal abuse investigation). Donnelly sure wanted her "pound of flesh" there.

That was Donnelly’s worst episode by far, but I always found her to be an arrogant self righteous stuck up bitch, and I thought it was strange how she went from being SVU’s Bureau Chief to a judge yet she seemed to have such close contact with SVU after that, it almost seemed like she wasn’t objective, that did come up when she had to recuse herself from the Darius Parker trial because she knew about Stabler’s daughters DUI. I never liked her and was glad when she vanished.

It will be interesting to see what Cabot is up to, although I hope her appearance doesn’t mean we get a whole episode of her and Benson saving the world while Fin and Carisi again get nothing. It’s an unpopular opinion but Cabot isn’t my favorite ADA and I’m not the biggest fan of her character, the best ADA was Barba, that is before he became Bitch Barba who was only there to be Benson’s yes man, Novak was superior to Cabot as well IMO and Stone is going to quickly become SVU’s best ADA I believe, so I would rank Cabot 4th on the list of SVU ADA’s. She was a sharp prosecutor but she didn’t have any personality aside from being cold and bitchy IMO, she reminded me a lot of Tracey Kirby from L&O : TBJ in that regard.

It seemed like all the ADAs suffered from one common flaw that has been consistent through out this series. On many occasions, the SVU has brought cases to the ADAs based on flimsy evidence and the ADAs have been forced to bend over backwards to try and get convictions. Some have bent (and some have broken) the law, just because they get a lip full from Benson (or someone else from SVU) insisting they not let the defendants get away with their crimes.

I agree about this, the ADA’s on SVU have always been weaker than the ones on the mothership, or Carver from CI, or Kibre and Gaffney from TBJ, they seem to bow to the wishes of the detectives much more so than the prosecutors from the other series in the franchise. Barba started off differently and was a strong ADA for a few years and then he became Benson’s puppet. I’m hoping Stone will be the first ADA to consistently stand up to SVU and not bow to Benson or anyone else’s wishes.

Hmmm...a sneak peek for this week's episode.

It seems like the defense will have a cake walk with this one, with Carisi getting involved and Benson letting him investigate the case. I am still trying to figure out if Stone was letting him in on it too. Sounds like Benson may come under some disciplinary action for not telling Carisi to officially stay off the case. Once he gets involved, everything gets tainted. I thought after everything that has happened at Hudson U. with the President of the university getting sacked along with the head of campus police for botching up a rape case, they would have better procedures and no "rape kit", that is almost unbelievable.

Link to comment

The university where the president and head of campus security was sacked was Tompkins Square University- Hudson's SLIGHTLY less rapey brother university.

Knowing that this case was originally handled within the university (and he was expelled) will make for an interesting case, because it's harder to make the argument the university looked the other way. Of course, considering the niece has a SVU detective for an uncle, I'm curious why she didn't just go straight to the police. My personal opinion is that all rape allegations on campus should be investigated by the local police and not campus security, because campus security has no legal jurisdiction. The worst they can do is expel a perpetrator.

At the small, private college where I am employed in Illinois, the "Sexual Misconduct Brochure" states that it's up to the person who was assaulted to choose whether or not to pursue criminal charges—which I think is pretty typical of current policies on campuses, but if there is an actual assault, I don't see how that's not a crime that should be reported. But, IDK, maybe expelling the offender would be a more effective punishment than having the victim deal with the criminal defense team of the person who did the assaulting. I wonder if they're going to focus on that sort of issue, or if it will be all about Carisi going rogue because Benson essentially told him she expects him to go rogue—at least that was my interpretation of the scene. But promos do seem to be selected by monkeys—or cats.

Fin’s son Ken will be returning in episode 17, titled Send In The Clowns, I’m glad he’s returning, I’ve always liked him unlike Stabler’s family or Benson’s boyfriends/brat, I hope we find out if Fin is now a grandfather. Also it says Stone will get a visit from family in this episode, which is interesting since Stone told McCoy he had no family after Ben’s funeral, so I wonder who it will be, I wonder if his sister, Ben Stone’s daughter that he mentioned to Schiff in an episode years earlier, is actually still alive or if the writers have forgotten she existed or if she’s dead, and I wonder who exactly the family member will be, it will probably relate to the issue with his dad’s estate that he said came up.

Are they turning the second half of season 19 into a reunion for old regular cast members and relatives of regular cast members now.? They are having a lot of episodes with these people or characters.

Someone also mentioned in another topics discussion, that they have brought the famous "Hudson University" setting back , where sexual assaults, rapes, and murders don't deter these students from attending.

Someone also mentioned that they have a nuclear reactor on campus now.

So maybe a crazed group of heavily armed sex-offenders have taken over the building (with hostages) the reactor is kept in. They are threatening to set off the reactor if the USA doesn't legalize rape. Olivia Benson and the rest of SVU are called in to alleviate the situation.

Hmm, I thought we already knew that. I could've sworn there was a scene of him showing off baby pictures on his phone, or talking about how Ken had sent him baby pictures, or something like that, a couple seasons ago, but maybe I'm imagining things.

No there never was any of that that I recall. We haven’t heard a word about Ken and Alejandro since the end of season 17. I have to say, I’m glad they are finally remember Fin has a family since we have to see Benson raising the sex traffickers brat every other episode, I’m so sick of Noah, glad we are getting something different. I’m also curious as to who will visit  Peter Stone, since he told McCoy he had no living family but we do know Ben mentioned a daughter to Schiff once so I wonder if any of that will be cleared up.

I’m glad we get to see Fin’s son next week, last night was the first time we’ve been reminded Fin is a parent in ages. Meanwhile we get reminded Benson is raising the sex traffickers brat every week. But yeah I think the writers don’t care that Stone mentioned a daughter to Schiff, even though Churnuchin was around in the Ben Stone years of L&O so he should know, I’m hoping they will explain it next week when it says Stone will get a visit from family, which is interesting since he told Jack he had no living relatives.
