AHHHH! That's one of my very favorite stories! It's done by the brilliant Oh-No-She-Di'ent and the title is The Amazingly Different Race! I was just thinking about it earlier this week, while watching TAR. It used to be I had to read the story again before each new TAR season began.

Damn, but I miss Oh-No. I miss BWR, too.

My favorite is still the first one I ever read, "Before It's Set in Stone." Wow, what a revelation! I'd never read a story before that was so funny, so poignant, and so HOT! I think I laughed over some of the lines for at least a week. I was hooked on her stories forever after that.

Other ones that I've read approximately a 100 times each:

"And Then He Smiled"

"Night at the Crapshack"

"Getting It Out of Your System"

"All in the Kiss"

And Eledgy knows how much "Freedom Over the Phone Line" means to me.

And then there are 2 that killed me so badly the first time I can't ever read them again:

"Angels in Blue Baseball Caps"

"Jumbled Protocol"

That doesn't mean they're not good, it means they're so good they cut my heart out and stomped on it the first time I read them.

Oh-No, where are you?

Halloween may be over, but the treats are still coming! Shhh, but I have it on good authority that both Eledgy and Fishbag are posting new chapters this weekend, and I don't know about you, but I'll take that over a peanut butter cup any day. I can't wait!

Hey folks--I've been debating whether to post this here, but since the thread got bumped a few days ago, here goes--

A long time ago I wrote a GG story called Take Whatever You Can Get, which was seemingly well received. Over the next decade I wrote fanfic all over a wide range of fandoms. I've finally completed my first original novel (second is about 60% done), and I'm taking a run at the old-school publishing industry. It's going as well as you would expect (*crickets*) so I suppose I'm going to think up a pen name and stick it on Amazon in a month or two. My problem is I basically fail at social media and networking, so self-promotion isn't going to be a strong suit.

Short version: if you liked Take Whatever You Can Get, or my other old assorted fanfic, and would be interested in a ... Review copy? ... Of my upcoming novel, which is a deconstructed geeky urban fantasy thing, shoot me a PM.

Conversely: if you think this post shouldn't be here, feel free to let me know that too. (Even this amount of self-pimping makes me feel weird.)

If any of you haven't read "Take Whatever You Can Get"  by kieyra, you should do so at once. It's a perfect story. And the fact that she wrote it back in 2003, while the show was still running, makes it even more amazing. So do yourself a favor and find some time over the long weekend to read it - or read for maybe the 20th time, like I have! Seriously, there are lines from this story that I will never forget.

Thank you, you're way too kind. :)

I'm sure I told this story before back on TWOP (or maybe even in my weird author's notes on ff.net), but I didn't watch much television for the first thirty years of my life; I was way too busy dorking out with computers. I didn't start watching scripted shows until 2002 or so. L/L were my first TV 'couple'. I was also very new to fanfic (and writing fiction), but I think writing that story was when I realized I wanted to be a writer. It just took ... a while ... for me to work out my personal crap enough to get there. :) When I go back and look at it now, I can only get through a few chapters because I see how green I was. Anyway, if it hadn't been for the many kind reviews and comments on ff.net and TWOP back in the day, I'm not sure writing would have been more than a passing fancy, so I'm very grateful.

Sorry for the derail, and happy Thanksgiving if you celebrate it. :)

Kieyra, I can't tell you how exciting it is to me that you posted here! I'm another huge fan of your writing and of Take Whatever You Can Get. The opening of that story is one of my favorites in all of ficdom. The prologue sets the bar SO high, and then of course you keep it up all the way through.  I love the last sentences of the prologue:

But he toys with an idea: Maybe twenty-eight is too young to give up one's sense of humor.

And after that, they have an unspoken truce of sorts, and she stops being 'that-woman-with-the-kid', and becomes Lorelai.

And he becomes, finally, Luke.

I love the rhythm of your writing, the easy flow backwards and forwards in time....all of it. If you look back at it now and see it as 'green', then I can't wait to read your more recent work. How awesome is it that you're writing in the 'real' world? Very happy to hear that you've accomplished that, and that you thought to come back here, to your roots (sort of-- I know it's not exactly the same as TWoP), to let us know and to do some promotion.

TWYCG was one of the last stories I came upon after slowly but surely working my way through most of the GG fic on BWR---I forget now if I read it on BWR, or on ff.net, which I was sort of afraid of back then. I came upon it one weekend morning and was immediately absorbed in it, not wanting to stop reading to go to a volunteer gig at the Little League ballfields. I grudgingly got up from the computer, and headed to my assignment, only to find out that the games that day were for make-up only, and as there had been no recent rainouts -- no games, no volunteer shift! I was so excited that I didn't have to wait another 5 hours to get back to your story that I sat down in the empty stands, pulled it up on my phone, and read another 2-3 chapters before somewhat guiltily reporting back home.

Finishing the story, and looking in vain for more gems, led me to finally post at the fic thread at TWoP (having lurked there for months). I asked for guidance to more undiscovered great authors and stories as I attempted to wade into the multitude of stories at ff.net, where you have to do so much sifting, shall we say, to find the good ones. I got a few answers, mostly saying that if I had made my way through BWR I had likely found almost all of the best stories...but one Deepfriedcake answered me as well, suggesting that the solution to the lack of new good stories was to write my own....which led me to confess that I did indeed have a bunch of ideas written down, which led not only to writing and posting my own fic, but to a lovely friendship and writing partnership with her, and to getting so much support and feedback, briefly at TWoP and then here at preTV and at LumpyPotatoes as well.

Forgive this long public ramble full of run-on sentences, but please know that one amazing story from you had a huge impact and ripple effect on my own development as a fic writer.

Thank you!

I couldn't figure out if this belonged in the media or fanfiction topic, but i'm thinking fanfiction.  this is a couple months old so it may have already been posted here:

http://the-toast.net/2015/10/20/all-i-want-for-the-new-gilmore-girls-revival-is-for-emily-gilmore-to-become-a-late-in-life-lesbian/

for some reason, "“It’s called late-in-life lesbianism, Lorelai,” Emily would say sharply, “and I certainly would have thought you of all people had heard of it.”" is a really funny line to me.

Last but not least from me today...

If you're in the mood for Christmas-rleated stories, go back to Page 2 of this thread, scroll down towards the bottom, and you'll find a series of posts as people completed their mini-ficathon stories, as well as sharing their fave Christmas stories from GG fic days of yore...

Also, link us to more of your faves! Part of my post-Christmas routine is to read good stories, old and new.

Personal reasons keep me from posting here as much as I'd like, but in addition to eledgy's wonderful list, I'd like to shout out a crossover fic that doesn't show up on all searches.

Amelia Wolfson has a GG season six crossover with Quantum Leap which presents an entertaining possibility for Lorelai and Luke to work through their issues.

Leap Butch! Is a complete fanfic posted all at once.

Junie, I've only read one chapter of that crossover so far, but I love it! Thanks for suggesting it!

It saddened me to see that the author only had one review so far, (from Junie.) May I suggest a quick and easy Christmas gift? Any author would love a review! You have no idea how much happiness a simple review can bring. Just saying, "Hey, I read your story and really loved it!" can brighten a dark day and unleash the writing muse for further stories. Forget one-click giftcards - reviews are the way to an author's heart! (And don't limit yourself to new stories - authors love to know that their older stories are still being read, too!)

Merry Christmas to all of my fellow GG fanatics out there! Happy holidays and may the force be with you!

Happy New Year to all! Stopping by quickly to tell you about two discoveries I made the other day:

1.  Remember damnmydoohah? 14 of her always fun, often scorchingingly hot stories are on ff dot net. But there’s a famous/infamous one that isn’t there because it is NC-17/explicit, and she was scrupulous enough to follow their rules and not just label it M. Or maybe she did and someone complained and it got kicked off?  Anyway, I found the story somewhere else long ago, I don’t remember how or where, and, because that site had not been updated in a LONG time, I downloaded it as a word doc (and gave it a fake name and buried it in some obscure folder on my computer because it REALLY  is NC-17, and kids live here…). It’s well-written, is a teeny-weeny bit OOC, at least at the beginning… but so damn hot that I forgive its minor flaws and re-read it more than I probably should….

All of which is a preface to this news:  she revised it a bit and posted it at Archive of Our Own (aka AO3) back in December!

Thanks, Nicole.

You’ve been warned –- it truly earns the rating!

2.  Also at AO3, Dollsome is an author whose stories I've only seen there. I liked this recent ‘fixing season 6 before it ends badly’ tale of hers:

what are you afraid of, making it better?

It’s got a similar element to Brittaden’s great WIP Piecing Us Back Together, which Dollsome explains/acknowledges in her author’s note.

Quick question for you guys: Do you prefer fanfiction.net or archiveofourown? Both? Neither?!

I visit both, ASF--- ff more frequently, but AO3 from time to time as well.  Pros and cons to each.

But regardless of all that, I see that you re-posted your story from last year as a one-shot (yay!) to both sites!

at AO3: A Real Yes by JillianStillingfleet

at ff dot net: A Real Yes by FBR617.

I haven't read this new version yet but am looking forward to it, as I enjoyed it when it was in chapters.

Also, you win for most author/screen names! :-)

Thank you so much, eledgy! I swear that I'm not trying to be enigmatic---I actually lost my original names and couldn't figure out how to retrieve them from the dark abyss that is the fanfic.net "tech support" :) That's actually why I asked about A03...I was hoping it's more user friendly for those of us who are technologically challenged!

---Also, if anyone here is on Tumblr, I just started a new blog there today devoted to GG: https://www.tumblr.com/blog/wewouldratherbeinstarshollowYou'll find pictures of pretty much anyone and anything GG-related, fanfics, links to articles, random thoughts, etc. It's a place for positivity (which I keep thinking is a real word even though it apparently isn't) and ALL ship preferences are totally welcome. So far I've posted some pictures of Lorelai/Rory, Rory/Paris, just Rory, just Lorelai, Luke/Lorelai, Rory/Logan and Rory/Jess to kick us off :) I'm probably the oldest person on that site by a solid two decades or so, but it's actually proven a really fun place! And if anyone has fanfics they want me to link there, please let me know!

I can assure you that there are plenty of 'oldies' on Tumblr, if you hang out in the right fandoms :)

Llywela, thank you, my friend!

By the way, I'm determined that "write more...or at least write AT ALL" will be the one 2016 resolution that I keep, so in addition to making some desperately needed revisions to the never-quite-finished Logan/Rory fic and converting it to a one shot, I've challenged myself to...wait for it...write at least one Rory/Jess fic, one Luke/Lorelai fic, one fic that focuses on just family relationships, one fic that focuses on the Paris/Rory friendship, etc., etc., etc. Wish me luck, or at least wish me the sanity that I so clearly need ;)

I am completely new to fan fiction in general, and would like to get my reading started with a GG story. Do you have any recommendations for where I should start? I am overwhelmed! I have read these 5 pages and am almost done Variations in the Key of Luke. I have really enjoyed it, and am looking for something completely different for my next read, to keep it fresh :)

RainbowBrite, Are you mostly into the Luke and Lorelai storyline?

Thought my eyes were playing tricks on me, but no, it's true - our glorious Queen Mags has returned! Back up everybody, let me see if my arthritic  knees will still allow me to bow down to you...

Any chance that all of the revival talk has caused some GG plot bunnies to hop through your delightfully dirty mind? Hmmm? Pretty please?

'Tis I. Hey, do I get a crown with this Queen gig? Is there a raise with this promotion? No? Hmmmph. Just like the day job.

No new bunnies, but I never say never. Busy working on 2017 releases and trying to get publishers to bite on some new proposals. Can't wait for new eps, though. New eps = new what ifs, and you know I love a good what if!
