Great episode. I like the way the relationships have developed, where now they can call on each other so easily and deliberately. Loved the group speech about defining who we are and Capheus' comment about having the courage to see the beauty in the world despite the problems. Totally excited at the end with them finding Whispers and saying they're coming after him/them. He's so vile. Don't even want to call him an animal name; don't want to insult the animal.

So glad this is finally back.

That was better than the Christmas episode. Seeing the fear in Whispers'  eyes was glorious.

While I'm sure that someone in Lito's position would have to face a lot of prejudices now that he's out, the behaviour of that reporter at the red carpet felt too forced. I'm not saying it can't happen, but you know, it was the red carpet. How do you go from "what are you wearing tonight" to "you lied to us, you dirty monster!"? Also, I know dozens of Mexican women online and they're the kind of people who would love and support out-of-the-closet Lito. He's not alone! *hugs him*

Anyway,  I loved Lito/Capheus's answer, it was beautiful.

I loved that Nomi and Amanita went to Chicago to see a lecture on Homo Sensoriums. Is that what they are?

Did anyone notice that Will's Mom strongly favored (IMO) Riley's looks (save the different hair color)?

I loved when Riley saw her Dad he was playing Secret Agent Man on his ukulele and he brought her all those foods that couldn't be exported (to fool Whispers)

A great beginning.

I got the feeling, however, that he (Whispers) was part of a cluster that included Daryll Hannah's character and all of the other people who went to see the little girls Mom (same little girl that Will saw as a child). We know that they both went but it seemed to me that the mother indicated that there were others. Are we going to come to know two clusters? Why would clusters try to destroy each other?

Any guesses what the black pills were that Whispers was taking (that spilled all over Mr Krums desk?)?

Nice antidote after Handmaid's Tale, which had me in a pretty dark mood.

Edited to add: That was really good. Good pacing, not too many long digressions with a single character, and the thrill of watching the sensates team up in a scene never seems to get old.

It was also nice seeing the tables turned on Whispers.

I don't remember much about the Sara storyline; I guess that must have been in the Christmas episode.

If I have one nitpick, it's that I'm suddenly finding the Nomi actress a little bit wooden--that said, she's often given clunky and/or tech-heavy exposition to deliver, and those are the lines where I can kind of hear her "reading" them.

So happy to have this show back again!

Great seeing Whispers getting the tables turned on him for once. The guy is just so smugly evil, its great to see him look freaked out. Will is really in his element screwing with Whispers.

I hope this season we get lots of the gang handing out all together, now that they're all connected more.

The Sara storyline was cover in S1. Many flashbacks of young Will. The long scene where he is talking with the psychiatrist, where the doctor tells him that "saying you are seeing Sara" is hurting people and then he asked Will if he still see's her, where he responds "No" while looking at Sara out the window. Young Will following Sara to the place where Whispers had her and Sara warning Will not to look him in eyes. When Will meets up with his dad at the cop bar and WIll brings up Sara his dad is distraught that Will is still fixated on her...

From what I gathered from last season and these first 2 episodes of this season, it seems like Whispers was part of Angelica's cluster, but was also experimenting on Sense8's (he controls the one guy in the flash back to kill the tech in hazmat suit). So I think Sara was Sense8 and why Will (and others) are so connected to her.

Seems to be a case of getting it wrong with episode numbers and titles. Can be a bit confusing, because the first new episode just out counts as the second episode of season 2 because the Christmas extra treat is counted in. So the forum here does it correctly and numbers the first new episode of the new batch as 2x02, but some people might get that wrong and write about a different episode here  ;-) .

I think you've hit the nail on the head - this is the root of the problem. I had to pay attention to the episode titles in order to make sure I was in the right spot.

I got the impression that Jonas & Angelica were part of the same cluster, but that Whispers was not. In the pilot, Jonas and Whispers were both visiting Angelica in the abandoned church, but they could not see/talk to each other - Jonas says something to the effect of "is here here?" so I assumed Jonas couldn't see him. I'm thinking Angelica and Whispers just worked together to study sensates?

Okay, now I've seen the proper first episode, I liked that.

I had forgotten about the whole Sarah mystery, so nice to see more on that and also nice was having both Nomi and Amanita in investigative mode looking into things.

The cat and mouse with Will and Milton was great and I loved the last moment where Will finally managed to outsmart him as well.

Nice scene with Riley and her father, could've done with more of Sun, Kala and Wolfgang though.

The journalist scenes with Lito and Capheus were a bit on the nose but truly effective and I do like the journalist who was interviewing Capheus, even if it's obvious that she's going to be a love interest for him.

Overall, great start to the season, 8/10

This show has always been a bit on the nose and a little on the preachy side but just so.   I actually did enjoy the Lito and Capheus speech because it included all the members in the cluster.

I like that the mystery is really starting to take shape now and the cluster is starting to go after Whispers and the BPO.  They made their first big move.

Awww...I was hoping that was a misdirect and that she would turn out to be his sister that was left behind.

I found the reporter interrogating Lito on his 'betrayal' of his fans to be a bit too strong. She's just some entertainment, red carpet reporter, and she thinks it's time to register a hot take on the star who appears to be gay? I did love what Lito and Capheus had to say, though. It's obviously something that's incredibly important to the Wachowskis, and it's really something everyone should bear in mind when they consider judging other people. It's a hell of a hook to draw people into the season, and it feels like the most important message of the show.

I think Capheus' reporter liked the answer a bit more, though. Already clearly a love interest for him.

Seeing Will on drugs and struggling is tough to watch, but I did like Kala mothering him. Tina Desai is one of my favourite performers in this show. She's and Miguel Andre Silvestre definitely have the best comedic timing of all the cast. I'm always touched by how much the Sensates care about one another. Especially when they have so little in common. Wolfgang, the gangster, telling Riley not to give up on Will, the cop, because "he wouldn't give up on any of us."

I don't know how much I care for the homo sensorium idea. Them being a different species, which is either an evolution of homo sapiens or a different species, whose abilities are just dormant until triggered, is a bit tropey. I kind of prefer this just being a weird, unexplained science fiction thing. But I do like that they're using the history of competing species of human beings, back at the dawn of man. I'll see how the idea develops, though.

Riley and Will playing Whispers was great. An excellent climax to the episode. Seeing Riley's dad again was nice. And again, whenever Tuppence Middleton smiles... really smiles... it's like the whole world lights up. It's one of the most amazing smiles I've ever seen.

It took me a while to figure this out, but Angelica bugs the shit out of me. I just hate her tweaky, weird, 'bad druggie mother' vibe, and I resent the fact that she checked out as soon as she birthed her cluster.

Isn't Nomi a fugitive? How did she (presumably) fly across the county to visit the prof at U of C without being caught? I guess you could argue she made herself a fake ID or something but it seemed kind of sloppy continuity.

I loved everyone chiming in to answer the two reporters. I was also rolling my eyes at the one at the movie premiere. Look, lady, you got assigned red carpet duty so quit trying to act like you're a high school student doing investigative journalism on the mystery meat in the cafeteria. As for her accusations that Lito lied to his fans, give me a break. What a betrayal that he has a personal life!

I didn't like Fuchs giving the night club to Felix. He is going to expect something in return so I have a feeling this will not end well.

Heh, loved that Neets went back to her Nancy Drew theme when they were in Chicago. Her Ms. Keene pseudonym cracked me up!

I was freaking out when Whispers shot down Will's London theory and then started talking about how he knew Will and Riley were still in Iceland, so I wanted to high five them when I saw Riley turn off the bird sounds and the big Amsterdam sign. Bonus points for having her dad bring yogurt and other Icelandic goodies to keep fooling Whispers!

One nitpick I have is that Whispers clearly has access to a lot of money and he already found Will's dad. He knows Riley's name and that she's from Iceland, so does he know her last name and who her dad is? Why wouldn't he have someone watching Will's dad and Riley's dad just in case they are contacted by their kids?

Sara's mom was so kind to Nomi and all the others who have visited her over the years. Somehow the fact that Whispers was Sara's tutor makes the whole situation seem even worse.

I'm 99% sure we didn't see Will's mom in this episode. Do you mean Wolfgang's mom? We saw her when he told Sun why he was at the zoo.

We also saw Jonas and another guy visit Sara's mother. I didn't recognize the other guy but we saw him at least twice and once he was definitely with Jonas so I'm assuming the two of them were in the same cluster. Whispers wasn't a part of their cluster, but now we know he was hooking up with Angelica which, ugh.

Jonas explained the pills to Will in the previous episode:

Will: What are the pills?
Jonas: We call them blockers. Cuts you off from the psycellium. Temporarily turns us into them. Keeps hunters like him protected and prisoners like me isolated.

I figured out what the black pills were after I posted that. I've tried so hard to get others to join me in watching this. Them for the first time, me for the second or third depending on where we're at. I don't understand ppls resistance to this show (either that or I need some new friends lol).  I don't discuss the sexual aspects (most of my friends are pretty open minded) but the empathic connections. I will rewatch regardless but it would be so much more fun with someone to discuss it with as these boards are rather devoid of new watchers or others with my enthusiasm. Who's going to pass the popcorn?

I love your quotes because it brings me back to scenes and of all the awesomeness that this show is. It's almost like not watching alone. (Another thing that gets me is I do have friends that when I'm thinking of them...they call. Lots of other spooky coincidences as well. Where is my cluster?)

P.S. Thx for the answers!
