Wait ... can we back up?  There are adult versions of Sweet Valley High???  What's it called?

Sweet Valley Confidential. Then there are 6 books after that and they are all awful. I think I will reread them.

I tried to read Sweet Valley Confidential. I read about halfway, put it down completely livid and sold it to a Half Price Books the next day.  I couldn't handle it.

OK, fine.  Even though he's not British, I'll comfort myself with some Daniel Gillies :)

He's a Kiwi though and one can argue that that is pretty equal.

Nathaniel Buzolic! Aussie but hot damn, Kol. Especially when he's doing devious Kol things. ?

@Ante, did you watch Vampire Diaries, The Originals, or both?  I am (I guess now was) a Vampire Diaries watcher.  I tried The Originals but never got past season 2.  The weird thing is, I couldn't stand the Originals on Vampire Diaries (I only sort of tolerated Klaus because JM is hot lol), but I liked them all once they got their own show.

I watched Vampire Diaries up until they turned Elena. She became so annoying as a vampire I couldn't deal and stopped watching. I wish the writers would have made her less whiny and more bad ass like Caroline became when Damon turned her.

I have always loved the Originals. When the storyline started with them on VD, I was fascinated. I loved how they introduced Nik and made him the most evil yet Joseph managed to portray him with such heart. I've always appreciated the mythology that the writers came up with for the family as well and I do love Claire Holt.

The Originals was brilliant up until the third season and then they skewed off into pretty crap territory. This current season is a bit better but it's still not at the level of the first two seasons.  I continue to watch because of my support for Joseph and Claire.

I was always stuck between who I liked more, Stelena or Delena. I really liked Forwood though.

Guys, have you seen this weird Katy Perry performance from SNL? I might be really behind here, but my mom just showed it to me and I'm just speechless. I legitimately feel like Katy Perry might have trolled the entire world with this one because she cannot be serious. And this is coming from a former raver kid who used to do glow stick light shows that are only cool when you're on ecstasy. I mean, come on, WHAT IS THIS?

If the tacky stage performance of Miley Cyrus with Robin Thicke wearing the Beetlejuice suit at the VMAs that year had produced a really bad looking baby, said offspring would be Katy Perry in this performance and outfit. Yuck.

I tried to re-read the Heaven series by VC Andrews. I couldn't make it through the first chapter. It was SO bad.

I did something similar years ago, picked up Catcher in the Rye to read again bc I loved it in HS, yeah halfway through the book I wanted to pull Holden out and beat the crap out of him. Maybe it's being a middle school teacher but he annoyed the hell out of me, then again the first time I read HP Order of the Phoenix Harry annoyed me with his whining at the beginning of the book, since then when I reread it's Ron and Hermione not understanding where he's coming from that gets on my nerves.

Um not sure what to say about Katy. ETA: I can't stop watching just trying to see if I can identify any of the drag queens.

Anyone see this? My mom showed it to me today

My initial thought, too, was OMG Miley Cyrus and Beetlejuice run a drag show now! That was a dead boring song, and I don't get the kid with the backpack who had some really weird dance moves. That was really boring.

Is she pregnant? I don't follow celebrities particularly but I thought she looked like she was in this. Also yeah this song is pretty terrible, as is the outfit and the choreography - it all looked very bizarre.

Holden was a whiny twit who thought that sitting around and plotting the demise of others made you deep. I can't STAND him.

I saw mommie dead and dearest. Proves that truth is stranger than fiction. I won't give out spoilers but I highly recommend it. The documentary reminded me that not all Psychopaths are killers and all killers are not psychopaths. They walk amongst us, ladies...

For some reason (and I know it isn't even remotely the same people), I thought the guy front and center was Kit Harrington from Game of Thrones and he had two guys from the cast with him.  I know it ain't true but now that I saw it, I can't unsee it.

Me too!  I am 41 and loved the Sweet Valley high books growing up.  The new books are absolutely awful- they ruined the series for me and forever changed my feelings about the series I really enjoyed when I was younger.

Ha! Reminds me of how obsessed I was with The Vampire Diaries in high school. Read them again when the show came out and OMG they were awful.

Some series age better than others for sure. Plus, kids today have awesome, long novels to read. If Harry Potter had existed when I was 12, I might not have gotten into my mom's smutty trash so quickly.

I look at them the same way I look at Harry Potter and the Cursed Child. Bad fanfic and not part of the actual story.

OMG same here I was reading Danielle Steele in 6th grade lol but that was in the 80s.

I don't mind HPCC as much as others do. I don't love it that's for sure but I don't hate it either, it was interesting and honestly I have read better fanfics but I think part of the problem is that it's a script it's not prose and that makes a big difference. Course I'm also one who thinks Al and Scorp seemed like they were headed for a relationship in that story which doesn't bother me except I'm a Harry/Draco fan, I know I know I'm crazy LOL

Seriously summer at home was much more fun b4 my kid hit middle school, the attitude is driving me crazy and this is only the first full week home, he may not last the summer at this rate, TG he has orchestra camp in July too bad it's not more than a week.

Oh god I can't even with the cursed child - I read the screenplay and it's awful - I do not accept it as canon.

I can't believe that the cursed child is actually a PLAY. I don't hate it, but it seems so odd to make a play.

None of the characters were themselves. It was so forced and when would Voldy have gotten it on with anyone. Dude was half dead for most of the series and then scary beyond all reason for the rest. I doubt he was like... tortured Harry plenty today, now time for some loving.

Is it bad that I imagined it was some sort of magical insemination a la Annakin being a result of the Force impregnating his mother in SW? Otherwise if it were a matter of actual insemination I could see Bellatrix offering up her womb nevermind the fact that she was married. And ok this may have now gone too far but that's the way my brain works when it comes to HP stuff, probably why I write and read HP fanfic

Link to comment

Ha Bellatrix was bat crap crazy. I could see her bouncing up and down "Pick me. Pick me" Buuuttttt. She was a prominent figure through the books. We saw her every year. When would she have had time to be pregnant before she was viciously killed by Mrs. Weasley?

Side note. Helena Bonham Carter is one of my favorite people ever. I want to be her when I grow up.

The whole thing about Voldemort in the books was about how he had abandoned his humanity and didn't want, understand or feel love. That, to me, is not conducive with producing a child. Also none of the characters we'd known from the books felt like themselves.

I loved Danielle Steele!

I did for years, I still love rereading some of my faves. Palomino was the first one I ever read and I still love it though I think Message from Nam is my fave, I also love The Ranch and Jewels (basically her older books lol). Silent Honor was the first I'd ever heard of the Japanese internment camps here in the US. Never once heard it in all of my schooling. I was amazed to learn something like that from a romance book.

I was also a big LaVyrle Spencer reader.

And now I have a huge list of books to reread.

I have been reading Fern Michaels, Sherryl Woods and B. J. Daniels. B. J. Daniels is a writer from Montana, and a majority of her books are situated in Montana. Her books are hard to put down once I start reading them.

And on to a different topic...This morning I had a dream where I won a contest to meet Kelli and Judy. I was helping set up for the cameo photo shoot and with hair and makeup. I asked Judy and Kelli about my picture being taken, and one of them said I need to bleach my upper lip. *lol* I woke up before I got my makeup and hair done plus have my professional picture taken without wearing the uniform.

I love Sherry Woods! Susan Wiggs is another great author. Can't remember the author but the Fool's Gold series is good too and I really need to re-read Jan Karon's Mitford books. Right now I'm on a fantasy kick reading Salvatore's Drizzt books.

Sounds like an awesome dream!

I hope this is in the right thread. On Saturday, I was watching a digital channel that aired old game shows. They were showing Family Feud episodes where Dallas Cowboys players were playing against the Cheerleaders. The 2 older Sholtz sisters were in the team. I chuckled.

Speaking of romance authors--does anyone remember Kathleen Woodiwiss?  She had the most amazing words and innuendos (his member).  I hid those books from my Mom along with the True Romance mags.

She died in 2007.

Wow that brings back memories.  Yes loved reading her work.  Clearly I have not read them in a LONG time as I didn't know she had died.
