Joe nailed it when he said Biden needs to choose between his own ego and what's good for the country. In 2020 I'd assumed Biden would run for just one term. I was disappointed when he decided to re-run. He could have been a philosopher-king type and voluntarily relinquished power. But no, Scarborough hit the nail on the head when he said it's about ego. I'd been thinking Biden was bigger than that but I was wrong. And I would add that Jill needs to stop feeding that ego, if that's what's been going on.

 I am not sorry I missed show this morning. Joe going after Meeka aggressively? Sadly, I think it is in his DNA, ego, etc. I do think that behind closed doors Mika can be more assertive.  Where have Joe and these now panicked commentators been these last 6 months/year? And this network?

Joe was very rude to Mika today. He interrupted her several times & mocked her support for letting Biden stay in the race.

Adrienne Elrod supports Biden staying in the race. She said Independents were turned off by Trump. She admitted that Biden had a sore throat last night. He went to the Waffle House after the debate and got some food. He felt better.

A Waffle House visit after a rough night is a good cure for performance issues.

Biden will be in NC today. Adrienne said Biden is raising more money.

Go back and watch clips of the 2012 debate between Obama and Romney.   Obama was, I believe 51 years old  that year, so 30 years younger than Biden, and he blew it. Dems were losing their minds.  Guess who got re elected. 

What I don't understand is why Biden campaign agreed to the format. You can't answer questions in 2 minutes, let alone rebut, or refut as Trump calls it, in one minute..  And wtf was Tapper doing telling Trump "you don't have to answer, just do whatever you want".   And why no push back from the moderators on Trump's lies.  "I didn't have sex with a porn star. I never said American troops are losers. I fixed Covid.  My economy was stronger." JFC. 

After the debate, Alex Wagner interviewed Gavin Newsome.  He said for everyone to calm down. And did anyone see Biden at the watch party after the debate?  That Joe looked like he did down a couple cans of Red Bull, or get a B 12 shot. Rachel said "where was this guy during the debate??"  Biden was trying to stick to his talking points which was a mistake. He got flustered when he saw he couldn't get thru it in 2 minutes.  And as far as the look on his face during Trump's lies, I'm pretty sure most people had the same look on their face. They just didn't have cameras pointed at them. 

Does anyone really think Democrats are thinking, well I guess all the independents will vote for the fascist asshole now, the convicted felon. Because the man who actually has helped America, and done a lot of really good things for us, stumbled during a debate.  Is this really the bar we judge candidates by?  Or do we judge them by their records?  Their actions?

This. I was actually in agreement with Mika -as is Michael Steele on Deadline right now. Democrats are so busy doing Republicans' work for them. Biden's long stares and bumbled language weren't anywhere near as terrifying as Trump's lies.

Mika could be rewarded with an exclusive interview with Jill Biden or Karine Jean Pierre. This will help build her KYV brand.

I see Mika's point but she should have chosen different, non-condescending language that didn't make Mike's comment seem too emotional. Not that I'm a big Barnacle fan.

I noticed MSNBC edited out Joe & Mika's spat for the 8 am re broadcast.  No use beating a dead horse when you're wrong, huh Joe? 

Maybe all the know it alls who are calling for Biden to step down and throw the Democratic Party, the convention and the election into utter chaos, basically handing the election to Trump, SHOULD calm down.

BIden's campaign people should have never agreed to that shit show. Tapper and Bash let Trump say whatever he wanted, CNN only fact checked him an hour later.  

Polls are showing that it's 50/50 as far as who won, and a Univision poll gave Biden the win.   

Obviously, the more the media harps on this Biden should step down bullshit, the more Democrats panic and MAGA Republicans are overjoyed.  More clicks, more tuning in to the news outlets to see if anything has changed.  Just what they want. It's the political version of those idiot ads "Former star of Who's The Boss is 70 looks 40!", and you click on it and it's an ad for some shitty face cream or something completely unrelated.  Made you look! 

Funny how the lies Trump told every time he opened his mouth are no big deal. Or that he brought up his golf game instead of answering a question.  

So we won't use the Obama/Romney debate as the comparison. How about Reagan-Mondale. Talk about being called out as old and frail.

It's 2 months to the convention. I don't think folks on the show are off base calling for a new candidate. Biden would have to drop out. Then a few contenders jump in. And after a few weeks Biden and Obama could endorse a candidate and Joe release his delegates to them. The party would rally around.

Joe's on a scheduled vacation today according to Mika. That's convenient.

Mika then goes on a 20 minute editorial rant on the President's history and accomplishments of his presidency thus far.

She makes some good points that the President himself didn't do during the debate which was a major failure on his part. She also says a few whacky things like President Obama supported Hillary instead of his own VP in 2016. Well that interesting since Biden wasn't running in 2016.

We have to have the ever lame Mara Gay defend her employer's editorial which she agrees to convince us she disagrees with while she agrees with. ??

I think she may have meant that Biden did consider running in 2016, and it was reported that he and Obama did talk about it, but Biden decided not to, based on his conversations and that Beau had just died in May 2015 and the family was still grieving.  Sometimes Mika's word soup gets a little confusing.

President Biden hasn't had a press conference in 2023. Is this on purpose?

Rev Al Sharpton supports Biden. He said that Biden & Clyburn attended a National Action Breakfast in South Carolina in 2020. Clyburn endorsed Biden after the breakfast. It helped Biden win the nomination.

Mika put Mara Gay on the spot. Mara defended the NY Times editorial. Mara will vote for Biden even though she wants him to drop out of the race. She is worried that Biden will lose the race to Trump. Mara said everyone ages differently.

Mika wants all the editorial boards to demand that Trump drop out of the race.

I think Sharpton and Scarborough also, and the whole crew there, are kind of gaslighting on the importance of the Clyburn endorsement. They're rewriting history kind of as a favor to Clyburn. Everyone at the time knew SC was going to be the first state Biden could win. He was strongly leading in the polls there before Clyburn, who endorsed a few days before the primary, when Biden was already sure to win big.

Someone from the Atlanta Journal Constitution editorial board should be invited on the show to defend their editorial over the weekend calling for Biden to drop out.

Interesting that they never told Trump to drop out after he asked the Georgia Secretary of State to find 11,780 votes to over turn the election results in their state.

To get a contrary view from Mika's (iow, Joe's viewpoint) was what I was looking forward to today. Instead Joe decides he doesn't want to fight Mika on this and they use the lame excuse of a planned vacation. And then we get a 15 minute often illogical monologue from Mika, uncontested really till Mara comes on later.

I think 5 minutes of Mika's editorial this morning would have been enough. For me, it was way over the top.  I respect her long and close relationship with the Biden family.  And she was somewhat of a voice of reason (tried to be) on Friday. But today? I think she got what she wanted...the floor to herself.  Well played. If this is how Show is going to be up until the election...tres bien is correct.  It is going to be a really long four months.

This isn't the first time that Mika & Joe's relationships with politicians have clouded their judgment.

ITA! I think Joe  can be a real jerk but I do think Mika’s privilege from nepotism is showing .  She is so biased and thinks her opinion is more important than others because of the position her dad had.  She comes across as an entitled rich woman  who wants her way all the time .

Mika’s editorial was cringeworthy at times and way too long .  The crying just made her look like she can’t be objective because of her personal relationship with the Bidens . 

She is comparing tragedies to cognitive decline? You don’t “bounce back” from a progressive illness. 

And Mika talking about the need to accommodate Biden because of his age and basically scolding the staff for a normal presidential schedule is supposed to be helpful ? It only further reinforces the idea that he is not up to  the job right now .

There is also the obvious question as to how Joe said Biden was so great three months ago and many others called him “sharp” , when anyone dared question his cognitive abilities.  They look very much like they were exaggerating when they said how great Biden was behind closed doors , to say the least .

On the morning after an earth-shattering ruling, Scarborough is nowhere to be seen.   I tuned in in sore need of some vicarious catharsis by listening to him rant about the immunity decision ... instead, I get smiling, jolly Mika burying the lede, paired with upbeat Geist.   

A big problem I have with MSNBC -- and this is across almost every program, including my favorites Deadline Whitehouse and Katy Tur -- is that the hosts laugh and joke about the news, between themselves and with guests, in the face of the most dire developments, like none of it's real or concrete.   It's not a gender thing, because Ari Melber and Chris Hayes do it just as much.

Mika opened the show this morning like she was about to announce that pizza had just been added to the school lunch menu.   No gravitas whatsoever, no sobriety or seriousness in light of the grim news confronting every American today.

She may not agree with what guests are saying (especially the regular and semi-regular ones) …. but the sighs, facial expressions and shrillness are egregious.

Apparently Richard Haas has special election predicting powers and has declared the winners of the 2024 elections to be the Republicans. President, Senate and House.

If he can predict the future then what's Biden got to loose by using his new immunity status starting today. By executive order start by packing the SCOTUS

Haas said allies are nervous about Trump winning. Haas confirmed that Biden will be 86 at the end of his term if he is reelected.

Haas has to be urged to step down. Mika was outraged. Mika admitted the debate was a disaster.

Mika said Melanie Trump would not be invited to KYV if Trump was re-elected.

Haas said Biden is putting himself before his country if he stays in the race. Mika disagrees.

Mika said that it would be risky to go with someone younger and less experienced. Does this include Harris? Stein supports Harris as her replacement.

Jim Vandehei said Trump is organized and will use the military to protect the border and deport illegal immigrants.

Trump will have loyalists in the Senate & the House.

Everyone's saying it would be a very messy thing doomed to failure, but it would be so simple. Biden bows out. At the same time, he throws his delegates to Kamala, maybe a ceremony with Obama and Michele on stage too. She's already been vetted. The convention is a breeze. Kamala gains in stature as the campaign goes on. Also, she does seem to have been improving with campaigning as time has gone on. She has a better chance than Biden.

Mika's arguments once again were filled with illogical thinking. Today it's that Biden has done so much good. But Mika, the thing now is it looks like he can't win despite all that, because Joe looks in such bad shape, and also it looks like they've been gaslighting America. And that he (with Jill's encouragement) has been putting his own ego ahead of the nation, ever since he announced for re-election. Many Democrats are angry.
