Nashville Spoilers and Speculation

Wasn't Layla sleeping when Jeff when she was first introduced? I dont remember.

I haven't watched that episode in quite a while (so memory is hazy) but if remember Julianne saying something like if Layla has gotten to where she is, she must have slept with someone to move her way up the pecking order (and not just because she was on a reality show). But that is going off memory so I'd have to rewatch the episode to confirm.

Though I think Layla told Will that he took her virginity which came as a surprise to him.

I forgot about that. That's also when he had a look of realisation (not only taking her virginity but lying about his sexuality as well).

Link to comment

Layla also had a moment with one of the music guys in the studio, though we don't know his name so he probably wouldn't count.

I would love Layla to become the new nanny. How fun would it be for her to be a psycho nanny to the girls, undermine Rayna, and possibly sleep with Teddy/Deacon/Luke/Colt. She could cause some fun trouble!

My guess is she hooks up with Jeff though that's no surprise, is it?

There are so many spoilers for the next few to think about I don't know what to think. Typical if Rayna wins the big awards. Everyone is going to kiss her butt forever, and every time she takes a dump people will praise it as sculpture.

Stupid new kids. I hope they all disappear, including Juliette's. Hoping she loses the baby but wouldn't expect it until she has married Avery and for about five seconds it looks like they will be happy. THEN she will lose it.

Do we think this "cold" of Deacon's is a prelude to the big bad sickness? What does he have...HIV?

With his alcohol problems, I'd be leaning towards something with his liver. Maybe hepatitis or something like that? Though HIV could be a good guess.

Do any of the liver diseases present as a cold at first? I'm leaning toward something related to his immune system, but I can't imagine it'd be HIV, that'd seem out of left field to me. I'm still hoping for lymphoma/leukemia - something that can be treated - and that would give Chip the opportunity to share his own family's story.

Cardiomyopathy is a heart disease that can be alcohol related, though it usually presents with coughing and shortness of breath.

I did read that flu like symptoms can be present when there is a cardiomyopathy related infection.

Who knows?

They'll probably create some magical cancer that goes away on its own as soon as it fits their storyline.

Link to comment

Maybe we can start a pool for guessing Deacon's disease?

I guess it kinda depends on if it's going to be a really serious life-threatening disease or something acute and severe.

If the former, my guess is leukemia/lymphoma, though that's a good guess re: cardiomyopathy. Or perhaps he has HIV?

If the latter, maybe he turns out to have a serious case of pneumonia that lands him in the ICU, causing Rayna to admit her love for him.

I don't know.

I'm sorry, but why is everyone saying HIV?  I just don't get why that is a guess for Deacon to have b/c let's face it, most people still see it as a death sentence and if he has HIV then Rayna and Deacon couldn't get back together b/c the fan outrage would be immense.

Airwari - I'll go with cardiomyopathy heart disease or a very serious case of pneumonia, flu like symptoms, coughing, shortness of breath, because it can be controlled (cured?) with antibiotics. I can't go with anything else, like a disease with a death sentence. That's not the way I want them to get back together, her running back to him because she thinks he's going to die. Deacon's character deserves better then that. With HIV I would have thought he was smart enough to protect himself in different ways but then again these are the writers of Nashville.

Rayna threw Deacon under the bus big time, but then again she is trying to protect Maddie and as angry as he's going to be he'll agree with her again that she did the right thing. He'll take the hit because of his daughter. Someone mentioned on another forum that the scene between her and LW in her bedroom, after talking to the Rolling Stones writer and telling him her history with Deacon, it was similar to the scene in season 1 with Teddy when after singing the song "No one will ever love you" with Deacon at the Blue Bird, she went home to Teddy and told him she loved him. History repeating itself or is it hopeful wishing on my part.

If you want curable with antibiotics I don't suggest cardiomyopathy. Generally it ends with a heart transplant or death.

It killed the chick on Beaches!!!

I only picked that out because he has cold-like/respiratory symptoms. So either he has a primary respiratory illness like flu, pneumonia, TB, or an underlying something that makes one susceptible to respiratory (and maybe other) illnesses; i.e., something that dampens one's immunity. So, leukemia/lymphoma, HIV, etc. They are not pointing to hepatitis/cirrhosis as far as I can tell.

But per another comment, this show is more than capable of making up something nonsensical! It's probably not worth applying logic/science to.

I am sorry but I just had to share this...

I would like to draw your attention to a post I made in the S&S thread on Fanforum half a month ago:

So in the tradition of Nashville storytelling I will now do my best to spoil the entire S/G storyline for the remainder of the show.

Step 1. Zoey is eliminated via Baby Contrivance #3 in the form of Kiley/Micah. Kiley is then eliminated via Mistaken Case Of Father Identity #2.

Step 2. As a result Scarlett and Gunnar are parked in the Friend Zone for People Who Dated Each Others' Besties but become BFFs and start writing music together again.

Step 3. The show introduces a new romantic interest for Scarlett in the form of Regular Guy With No Background In The Music Industry (hereby referred to as "Gunnar Distraction #3" or "Teddy Wannabe #1".) He may be a male nurse that Scarlett meets during her stay at the hospital taking tests for Deacon's liver transplant, loosely modelled after Peter Petrelli in "Heroes".

Step 4. Scarlett pursues the relationship and confides in Gunnar who is playing the Cyrano character being secretely jealous while insisting everything is fine.

Step 5. Gunnar Distraction #3 turns into Zoey Copycat #1 getting paranoid over Scarlett and Gunnar's songwriting connection and eventually calling her on it. Scarlett, in an angst-filled epiphany, realizes her true feelings do not lie with Teddy Wannabe #1 but with Gunnar, and breaks up.

Step 6. Gunnar and Scarlett marry and the series is cancelled.

I wonder if I called it?

Nashville Adds Hot, Mysterious Doctor in Season 3 — But for Whom?

It would be funny if it wasn't so sad.

One of the early warning signs of Cirrhosis is loss of Sex Drive. Don't think Deacon is suffering with that

Liver disease could play a part in respiratory infections, since one function of the liver, is support of the immune system.

The cold could also be a red herring. It wouldn't be unusual, for someone on the road for an extended period of time, to pick up a virus. Especially, if he was already depressed, probably not taking the best care of himself with diet or rest.

Maybe he doesn't recover from the cold like he should, it gets worse, and that's what lands him in the hospital, and they discover a far more serious problem.

Not looking forward to this. Poor guy!

Hot Doc has a case of the Crazy Eyes. This ain't going to end well.

My guesses for whose love interest he will be:

  • Scarlett, per Telepath's comment above, plus she needs to be someone new so she is NOT free when Zoey breaks up with Gunnar because of the kid
  • Will - they can meet cute when he visits Deacon in the hospital and he can be the true love who inspires Will to come out
  • Layla - because she needs to get some - but they'd have to find a way for them to cross paths since she probably wouldn't be visiting Deacon - maybe he could be a physician who doubles as an ICU specialist and as a doc-in-the-box so Layla can meet him when she goes to a walk-in clinic after cutting herself on glass shards (or maybe she takes an overdose because she's upset over her portrayal in the reality show and gets admitted to the same ICU as Deacon
  • Pam, because why not?

I feel like I'm missing someone. I guess Sage is too young, and Gunnar's faux-baby-mama is out of town.

Areca - I hope it's only pneumonia.

Pattycat - Love your comment "One of the early warning signs of Cirrhosis is loss of Sex Drive." "Don't think Deacon is suffering with that." (No he's not) I'm hoping it's some kind of infection, the guy can't get a break.

Let's face it, loss of Sex Drive in Deacon would be a tragedy.

The show could probably survive Juliette abandoning her musical career to start her own cooking show; Rayna deciding to start her life over, as A Rodeo Clown.

It could not survive Deacon, with no sex drive, selling guitars and leading AA groups, while happily cleaning his gutters and watching game shows!

I've been thinking how the writers of Nashville are (have been) portraying Rayna. Still very confused, in some kind of a fog after the accident (Head trama), not thinking rationally, afraid of making another wrong decision, not going with what her heart wants, turning into a publicity whore, doesn't want to give up being Queen of Country Music, wants the fame and fortune BUT is she heading for a breakdown so the fans will feel sympathy, sorry for what she's gone through. Are the writers going to crash both Deacon and Rayna together or separately is that the drama their looking for. Because their all over the place they can't seem to focus on getting her back to the woman she was in Season 1. Tough, high profile woman taking control of her career against men who control most of the music industry. Where is that Rayna Jaymes?

I'm voting TB, typhoid fever or polio.

My mind keeps going back to that Layla spoiler.  What if the surprising hookup is actually Will?  Stay with me here...... Will, in his 497th attempt to convince himself that he`s not really gay, sleeps with Layla.  Layla, in a sad and misguided attempt to convince herself that she can change him, goes along with it.  Next thing you know she`s going all Pork Blood Peggy and faking a pregnancy to keep him from leaving her.  It`s insane but is it really any crazier than anything else happening on the show right now?

I love that Kimberly PaIsley will forever be known as Pig Blood Peggy.

I bet even her RL hubby calls her that sometimes. Don't follow country music but when I've seen Brad P he strikes me as pretty funny.

But on topic, Will doesn't seem to be struggling too hard to stay in the closet now. Before I got the feeling he was fighting it, but now just needs some damn discretion.

Didn't see this mentioned, from TVLine, confirmation we won't be seeing Brent anytime soon (boooooooooooooooo):

How come we never see Will’s ex-boyfriend and Layla’s manager Brent (played by Derek Krantz) on Nashville anymore? Will we see him on the show again?

Not anytime soon, no.

I came across a writer who wrote a piece about the Rolling Stone reporter and what he wrote in the article about Deacon and Rayna. It said "The Rolling Stone reporter will describe it better than anyone else ever has when he says "There is a pull between them, a mixture of music, and love all tangled up into something so tangible you can feel it when you as much as stand in the same room. It is undeniable." Those words described Season #1, what happened? We saw it everytime, in every episode they were in together, standing in a room apart or talking to each other.  WOW, if the writers on Nashville can come up with something as intense and emotional I'll take back all those bad things I've said about them as writers and apologize.

Thanks for posting this!  I was wondering if it might not be so much what Rayna said as what the reporter picked up from the way she talked about their relationship.  And don't worry, the fact that Rayna's trying to move on doesn't mean those feelings aren't still there.  We just have to be patient and let them tell the story.

And some serious shout-outs to Chip and Connie who make us (or me at least) feel that virtually every time they're on screen together. How two people who never knew each other before the show started make that happen, I don't know, but I'm grateful for it and can't help wanting more of it!

Thanks guys for the comments but that was from a person on a forum writing what she (he) felt should be said about describing these two people. Now if the Nashville writers could come up with something as intense I'll be a happy fan...

FWIW, they just did some filming in Memphis on Beale Street and at the Peabody Hotel.

Also, they filmed another hospital scene and they cast for real nurses who would know what they were doing in a hospital scene.

Sorry I don't know any more than that, but it's something.

Can't find all the terrific posts I read earlier to directly cite/reply to but commenting on but a few things for speculation below:

- not on spoiler tv yet, but hypable.com has some additional photos for the episode 8 coming up Wed. Some of y'all may have seen all of these- I had not.  Good pix to speculate on, but clearly this episode won't do Rayna/Luke in but hopefully keeps sowing seeds of doubt for the Rayna and the wedding.

- LIke some others, my first thought about Layla and her "finding comfort/solace from a surprising source" was Jeff. Unfortunately, since (in my view) this show continues to try to shock the viewers at the expense of the characters, am guessing it might actually be Gunnar or Avery- which would make me sick (especially it it's Avery). What I HOPE is that the surprising source is actually Juliette or Scarlett or another female character. Couldn't care less about Layla- but if they insist on keeping her, the girl needs an actual friend (and seems like none of the stronger female leads actually HAVE friends) since her only friend now appears to be Will, the source of most of her misery.

- Read somewhere that the 11th episode (filming now?) that airs in January  is called "I'm bad at saying Goodbye" or something like that. Still not convinced it's the official end of Ruke (but maybe end of the wedding happening during that time) -- and don't see any character (unfortunately) ACTUALLY leaving the show.. so could it possibly be Gunnar/Zoey that officially breaks up? There's pix on twitter of Gunnar bonding with his 'son' while the two of them play guitar for the episode.

- Based on above and other notes, E11 S3 also appears to have hospital scenes. I am thinking that  that's either Juliette and the baby and/or a Deacon medical issue. Am thinking  E 10 cliffhanger maybe gives 2 medical situations we're supposed to see before the winter break.

- But then again, have no idea.

Now, I'm in the camp that does not believe that Juliette and Avery's baby will survive long. This show has not allowed Juliette any happiness and a baby doesn't fit into the show. I wonder if the baby dies shortly after birth, can his/her organs be used in the transplant that saves Deacon?

Link to comment

They actually filmed two separate hospital scenes, a week or so apart, but that doesn't mean they won't cull them together in one episode.  I'm thinking one might be an emergency situation because instead of just having the nurses stand or walk, they specifically asked for real nurses and I'm thinking they want them to be doing some kind of activity that requires some knowledge of equipment and procedure.  I was also thinking Juliette's baby.

They also cast for doctors, patients, hospital visitors, orderlies, transport guys, hospital maintenance, police officers and detectives.

I still stand by throat cancer for Deacon.  That would be devastating if he couldn't sing, and it is treatable.

Here's something kind of encouraging: they want a hand double for Rayna.  I'm thinking they'll show a close-up of her (her hand double) when she takes her ring off.  We can hope!

Hmmmm ..... they also want hand double for Zoey and Sadie.  Don't know what that's all about.

Here's a BTW ~~ I volunteer for a local cat rescue and one of the cats is named Rayna James.  She's beautiful.  Gray and white long-haired.  If you're interested, contact me privately (end of commercial).
