This might sound ridiculous, but I'm wondering if Damar is wearing something under his jersey, say, like a shock absorber type of padding, to help with those tackles he makes.   Why would he chance another incident in this violent sport? I also wonder if there's a certain hesitancy in how he plays since his cardiac arrest.

My son plays non contact roller hockey and wears all the gear we can comfortably put him in including an extra chest protector. He has a heart condition and has had two heart surgeries with multiple stents placed in his aorta. Hockey was his life before we discovered his condition a few years ago. He was devastated when the cardiologist told him he couldn’t play anymore. We finally got the all clear when we explained it was a non contact league (accidents do happen) and that we would quadruple pad him.

I didn’t watch the game last night and wasn’t even sure if Damar was still playing. I’m glad he is and I assume he has an all clear from his dr. When his incident happened I remember being so frightened for my son and asking the cardiologist about it. I don’t think Damar had to have any stents or surgical interventions it was just a fluke. A terribly scary fluke.

No shocker from me if he played for Miami while calling games for FOX coupled with Vegas ownership

I would be shocked if this scenario plays out, but stranger things have happened in this league!!

It was Tua who lowered his head into Damar and thus caused the injury.  It looked like Damar kind of let up at that moment.  The link I posted earlier with Coach Saban talking about Tua helps to understand the kind of player he is and why he probably didn't just slide in that instance.  He said that Tua wants to see a play followed through.  It's important to him to show the team that he can be counted on to make the play (something along those lines).

Roller hockey sounds like fun!  Best wishes to your son!

It was a fluke.   Damar does not have a heart condition.   He just happened to get hit at right the exact moment in the heart pumping cycle that disrupts it.   The chances of it happening again, even in pro football are infinitesmally small.   Maybe higher than the general population because we aren't getting tackled all the time, but it has to be a hit in just the right way at just the right time.   But it could happen to anyone.

I hope your son continues to enjoy hockey.

Maybe someone smarter than me knows this.  Once someone has a concussion does it make it more likely if he is hit that he will get another concussion? Did he have concussions in college?

Yes, like any injury; if it happens once, it is more likely to happen again.  It may be in part due to Tua's particular anatomy/metabolism but it is also because tissue that has been injured and repaired is going to be more sensitive than tissue that has never been damaged.

Didn’t the Niners say on Monday if it were a playoff game Christian would have played?  That can’t have been true if now he’s going on the IR?

Do not underestimate what some NFL players are willing to play through in a playoff game.  Same for management, who would happily sacrifice the health of most players if it won them a game.

The case was closed when he won his second ring along with his second SB MVP.  Only five other players have multiple MVPs - Brady, Montana, Mahomes, Starr, and Bradshaw.  They're all (or will be) first balloters.  Eli might have to wait a year or two, but maybe the voters will be interested in trolling the fans and induct him right away.

Eli Manning was voted the eighth greatest Giant of all time, and the other nine in the Top Ten are Hall of Famers.  So there, case closed, Eli is going to Canton.

Yeah so he can join his Dad* and Peyton.

(yes I know Arch Manning is not in the HOF, but at this point that's the joke here)

I wonder how much Tom Brady is going to suck commentating the Saints - Cowboys today? Its bad enough that the Cowboys are at home & we're going to see a lot of that scumbag Jerry Jones on FOX today.

The Titans suck & their ownership are absolute buffoons. I might show a little bit of positivity about these losers for a change today if they can bring some more shame to the Jets today.

Is Taylor going to be a the Bengals - Chiefs game today? This game could be fun. But, its going to be a lot of inducing eye-rolling & stomach-turning in this game.

Ian Rappaport is reporting that Tua has no plans to retire at this time, but will seek a specialist.

For advice, for better treatment, I don't know.

He's guaranteed $165M so I don't think it has anything to do with money.  It's probably because he worked so hard to get where he is, and that's gotta be hard for a 26 yr old to give up.  It's also hard for that age to fathom middle age and how the body changes anyways and how these injuries can affect his body aging.

I think it's easy for us in the peanut gallery to say retire and go live on a beach somewhere with your multi-generational wealth because we'd all happily retire tomorrow.  Anyone who's happy reading a book, watching TV, or playing video games all day, every day isn't going to be able to make it to the pros in the first place, no matter how physically gifted they are.

Saints have scored 40+ in each of the first two games - wow.  Carr has been great.  That's not something I expected.

And somewhere Davante Adams quietly weeps.

Deshaun outplayed Trevor?!!!  Now I realize it's the Browns Defense, but still.... it's Deshaun, who doesn't even look like he cares abt playing anymore.

What was that abt his massive $55M contract (not that the Browns don't deserve the same derision)?

The Cravens are 0-2!  😆

Go Buccs!  I really like Dan Campbell, and want the Lions to succeed, but I'm a Baker fan first.

And go Sam Darnold.  He looks so much better than he's ever looked.  Same with Carr.  I don't think I've ever seen Carr this surgical.

The nose tackle for the Colts didn’t really throw up on the ball in Green Bay, did he?

The Packers center, Josh Myers, threw up on the ball. He did try to aim it away from the ball. Don't know whether any of the Colts vomited on the field.

But all was good because Anthony Richardson decided to do his best Jay Cutler impression and threw the ball right to Packers' defenders a couple of times.

Davante had a great game today. Looked like his old self.

Davante was nothing but class on and off the field during his time in Green Bay.  When his playing time is done, if he comes back for alumni weekend, he will be very warmly received by Packers' fans.

He was so excited to be reunited with his college QB and then that imploded.  I feel badly that didn't work out for him.  I will always wish him well.  Except if he's going against the Pack, of course!

Go Buccs!

Hello fellow Buc's fan!  We were worried when Vita Vea left the game with a knee injury, but luckily the defense didn't fall apart, and they came away with the win.  I'd like to see the Lions have some success, but not when they're facing the Bucs!  😉

I posted a link earlier about Coach Saban talking about Tua and his work ethic.  He said that Tua & his family need to take their advice from the medical professionals and not everyone else.  He said that Tua is a tough competitor and always wants to see a play followed through.  Coach said that Tua probably should've slid before getting tackled, but it's just the type of competitor that he is.  He spoke about how much he likes Tua & his family, and what a nice person Tua is.

Maybe Tua will need to learn to slide better and can come to terms with doing that rather than extending a play & risking injury (when possible).  Bama nation loves Tua, and we all wish him well!  Same goes for all of our Bama turned NFL players!

The Panthers have benched Bryce Young.  Abt time.

I think it was Rosenthal's show yesterday that suggested sitting him to see what kind of Offense the Panthers have.  They might not win with Andy Dalton, but they have a better idea of their talent, because Andy has good experience.

I saw this on CNN. First off, eww...

And topic related question, wouldn't someone getting sick on the field, qualify as an excepted delay of game. The sick player can get off the field to take care of himself. Meanwhile they can get a new ball. I'm confused why this wasn't done. Or was it? I didn't watch the game just read about it.

He probably thought he could hold it in until he couldn't (imagine if he threw up on a pass rusher) and this is so rare he likely didn't know what the refs would say.

To his credit, he did turn his head, so it's not like he vomited directly on ball with a full load.

Matt LaFleur said that Shawn Hochuli (the lead official) came over to him after this happened and said they saw it and would MLF want them to take Myers out of the game if it happened again.  I guess vomiting is not like an injury where they see someone who is dazed or not able to put weight on one of their legs.  Some of the other Packer o-linemen said they threw up too (it was the second hottest game in Packers' history) but I don't think that happened when they were lined up, but either on the sideline or when walking off the field.  Several of them were very matter of fact about getting sick on the field/sidelines; apparently it's very common in hot weather games.  I also remember Brett Favre throwing up on the field once after being sacked.

This was a 3rd down and could have been a crucial play in the outcome of the game, since they didn't get the first down and had to punt.  But the Packers are playing with a backup QB who has been with the team only for a couple of weeks, so putting a new center in might have been a problem too.  I'm not sure how many snaps in practice Willis has taken from Jacob Monk, the backup center.  MLF told Hochuli that yes, if it happened again, please take Myers out.

Malik decided to take one for the team and not hand off that ball or attempt a pass.  Player of the game honors right there!

How in the hell did the Eagles throw that game away tonight?!

Falcons 22 - Eagles 21

BTW, Kirk Cousins led them to that upset victory with that game winning drive. Yuck. 😒

I am outright cackling at what just transpired.  I don't give a shit about the Falcons, but as a Giants fan I am generally pleased by the Eagles losing, and that absolute implosion in the final two minutes was hilarious.  I'll always love me some Saquon, but put him in an Eagles jersey and that idiotic drop pleases me.

Saquon what are you...?!  Dammit!

Now the Falcons got a win.  I want everyone who picked the Falcons over the Buccs (and now possibly the Saints) to win the division, to eat crow.  Nothing against Kirk, Raheem and the gang, I just want Baker to his due.
