You could do something like Trombone Shorty arranging a half time show with various artists like his most recent album. It wasn't jazz-jazz. It's more funk and rock.

That's the kind of vibe I'm talking about!  It might appeal to more people.  Apparently, what they're doing with the halftime is working, so they've got to go with what works.  That doesn't mean that a lot of us will watch it though! I've read a lot of negative comments about the show on other social media.

BTW Chit Chat, on a different note, Desmond Howard, who won the Heisman as a member of a Big Ten program, who the Super Bowl MVP half a decade later.  Still a small sample size since the beginning.

I posted about this last night.  The elite group I was referring to all won a Heisman, a college national championship, and a SB.  Not to take anything away from Desmond, but I can't find any info on him winning a college national championship (not that he wasn't great!) I'm just trying to make sure I'm accurate in what I posted!  All due respect to Desmond, of course.

Oh I see.  I did check twice to see if I missed anything, but my double-check wasn't good enough.  Therefore I stand corrected.

In the annual "Way Too Soon" or SO EARLY favorites for 2025 & 2026, Kansas City is favored to be the 3rd team to win 3 Super Bowls in 4 years.  Which, if that happens they would also become the second team to reach 4 consecutive Super Bowls (and the first to win at least one game in that span).  Buffalo, Philadelphia, and Baltimore are tied for second best at +700 (the Eagles were previously tied with the Chiefs at +650 followed by the Ravens and Bills for 3rd best immediately after the Super Bowl ended).  Detroit is 5th at +900 and San Francisco is next with a 17 to 1 (previous 14/1) chance to finally get what would be a record-tying sixth Lombardi.

Lamar Jackson, who several thought would go back to back for the NFL MVP, opens as the 2025 favorite at 4.5 to 1.  Josh Allen is right behind to repeat at 5/1, followed by Patrick Mahomes and Joe Burrow, both at 7 to 1.  Jayden and CJ are after those two

What is 'what works?'

It's whoever they think the majority of people want to see.

Even if you're not watching the halftime show, you're leaving the tv on.

Yes, that's true, so on the financial side of it, it's still a win-win for the NFL.  If they go by public opinion (reading various social media platforms), and there are more people unhappy with a particular aspect of the SB, then TPTB might think about doing something different to appeal to even more people.  If it's a small minority of people who don't like a particular aspect of the SB, then they'll continue with what works best for the show.

As I said earlier, aside from the halftime show, I enjoyed the pre-game coverage and all of the other singers.  I'm just a lone voice stating that the halftime show wasn't my cup of tea.  I'm not mad about it.  I just 'nothing' it.  I went to the kitchen and got some more homemade chocolate chip cookies!  Then I came back and watched the rest of the game.  I enjoyed this SB more than any in the past few years.

I'll say it. A NFL player is about 4 times more likely to be Black than a randomly pulled American. And the NFL doesn't want to present a show where only the players are Black. As R&B is the legacy racial crossover music and hip hop is that for the modern era, with some Black faces now turning up in Bro Country.

So R&B and hip hop are increasingly being the show music of choice. Now it is 5 years in a row before we get to the Latin show. Now the decade before that the R&B might come from Justin Timberlake or a multi racial Bruno Mars

Sure everything was okay, but as someone that planned to watch Super Bowl 59 the second it was set a couple weeks ago, I have to agree that regardless of whatever, I'm tuning in and leaving my TV on for the game.

We were recording the game.  We let it get ahead, then depending on how it's going, we'll either tune in or not watch it at all.  Had the Chiefs been blowing them out, we would've deleted it and not watched it.  It's so much less stressful to handle games this way.

If I don't like the halftime show I just get up and get more chips.

Mahomes is on a trajectory to be the GOAT but even if he replicates the front half of his great career he would still "only" be 6-4 with 4 blowout losses and 20 TD's and 14 interceptions to Brady's 7-3 with a 4th Quarter lead in all 10 and 18 TD's and 4 interceptions.

I thought Brady was almost good in the NFC Championship game but he was back to being bland and boring for the Super Bowl, like someone at FOX told him to stop being informative.

Anyway, if he continues to announce at the same time that he is being an active minority owner of a NFL franchise that is some supreme bullshit.

I actually thought he was good when late in the 4th quarter it didn't matter anymore. We knew the Eagles were going to win.

He went on a big long schpiel about losing the SB to the Giants and how he's still not over it, and then seemed rather relieved that Mahomes didn't 3-peat and Brady's GOAT status was still not de-throned.

It wasn't exactly nice, but it was refreshingly candid and I thought gave a good window into the kind of fanatical focus that he was famous for. He dropped the genial announcer persona. This is the Brady we saw screaming at his O-line during games.

For those who track the following: It looks like FOX and the Super Bowl are projecting about 126,000,000 viewers.

That's impressive!  It would be interesting to know the breakdown of the fans watching on TV and who they were rooting for.  One reporter in the stadium estimated a 60/40 split with more Eagles fans there.  The hype was there for this game, so I'm not surprised that a lot of people tuned in to see it.

Let's see, we've got our Chiefs fans; then the non-Chiefs fans rooting either for or against them, and ditto with the Eagles.  How many football fans were "hate" watching against one team or the other?

I've always liked the Fox NFL show (Bradshaw's group).  I thought the overall presentation from pre-game to the end was good.  I think that Brady did a good job in his first season of broadcasting.  He wasn't a dud as some others have been.  I've enjoyed listening to him breakdown certain plays from a QBs perspective.  It's good to hear from the guys who've actually played the game.

Let me start by saying I don't dislike the Eagles and I'm happy they won.  However I was going to be rooting for any NFC (minus the Rams) to beat KC. On the other hand if it had been Buffalo instead of KC most people would have been rooting for the Bills. Myself included.

Hopefully you skipped Super Bowl 53

As for the Bills, I couldn't agree more

I don't have an NFL team that I'm a fan of, so hate watching a Super Bowl is never in my vocabulary. Unless, it involves Jerry Jones & Stephen Jones. Thankfully, we will never have to worry about that for a very long time.

Speaking of these 2 losers, I hope they're really feeling some type of way about the Eagles winning another championship (their 2nd). Jalen Hurts got more playoff wins in his pretty short career (6) than the Cowboys have in the last 25 years (4). It'll be even more better when that streak of not reaching the NFC Championship Game gets to 30 next season.

The only bad thing about the Eagles winning it all is that Kevin Hart will be all over the place bragging about it everywhere (especially on ESPN) & he will never go away. Bernie Mack, Richard Pryor, & Robin Harris (absolute legends in comedy) would flat out despise Kevin Hart today.

Here is the logo for next year's Super Bowl.

I don't think Mahomes is able to "pass." Isaiah Hartenstein is able to pass. Mahomes (like Klay Thompson) looks mixed race to me.

Well it seems some do think he passes given the "white versus black quarterback" question. If not both parents being indigenous to Norway than to Mahomes parentage being from somewhere other than West Africa.

Minnesota would be better off with Kenny Pickett than Aaron Rodgers

I keep seeing all these articles, some from actual sports news outlets, saying he is coming to Pittsburgh.  And that makes no sense. We already have and could probably keep an aging QB.  And who wants the baggage that comes with Rodgers?

It's not happening.  Though both Russ and the other guy could be gone.  At least they realize they have a problem there.

While I disagree with Marley about signing Rodgers, I respect it.  Not worth the baggage, but the problem is that people need a QB.  Unless they're just getting by for 2026 and a better draft class

I hope that the NY Giants owner & those 2 losers Jerry & Stephen Jones are crying in the closet in agony right now watching the Eagles Victory Parade. I hope that a few of the Eagles players rub it in on these fools today.

Maybe Jerry Jones can welcome Aaron Rodgers with open arms. They both suck & they love bringing attention to themselves. So, its a match made in heaven. Also, their new coach sucks.

Saquon could but he won't. Everytime he has been asked, he's been nothing but classy towards his former team.

This is awesome. I am so happy for Hurts in particular for having to listen to mediocre back up QBs like Chase Daniel and Dan Orvalsky take shots at him when they have never even stiffed the success he's had .

I'm watching the Eagles victory parade and it is awesome. The crowd are throwing beers and cigars to the players, some of the players got off the bus to interact personally with fans, the cops are dancing and conducting cheer competitions, the obligatory confetti cannons;  it's a festive environment.

That being said, they showed the float with Jeffery Laurie (the owner) and his wife is waving to the crowd...bitch sit down, ain't nobody waving to you -yeah i get it, enjoy the celebration, but still,..

I think I've definitely made reference to that for the past several years.  One of many reasons why I think the league will add 18 games sooner rather than later.

The "excuse" is simple.  "Fans want the Super Bowl to fall on Presidents Day Weekend which would give America a 3-day weekend."  Which isn't that automatic.  Several people still work that day.  People that are off include USPS, financial institutions, and K-12.

Plus, Presidents Day is scheduled to be observed on 02/15/2027 as it's the 3rd Monday in February.  So if the NFL changes nothing between now and then, they'll get their wish for a 3-day weekend, along with a Valentine's Day conflict.  I cannot wait for those fireworks!

Of course, in addition to Roger, Tom & Jerry not caring about the conflict, I imagine they could test something that'll become permanent.  That would be starting the season during Labor Day Weekend (a week early).  Then things end on 02/07 (like in 2020).  Or they could test a double-bye (2 open dates for the NFL teams), which would put the Super Bowl on 02/21.

I hardly think the NFL will suffer here, but it'll be interesting to see what happens.  Either way, it's a situation that will not come up again until the 2037 season, concluding with Super Bowl 72 in the calendar year of 2038.

Speaking of byes I think teams when they have a bye week the next week their opponent would have also have had a bye.

That would be great but that's easier said than done.  So much to go through to make it happen.  I think if they go to 18 games, if it's sooner than later, you'll get that outcome.  Especially if it results in both teams returning to action on Thursday Night Football (10 days off instead of 3).

Correct me if I'm wrong but didn't the NFL regular season used to start on the first Sunday of September?

Only if the month started on a Monday.  Otherwise, it was more common prior to the beginning of the century.

Ryan Quigley was injured in the terrorist attack in New Orleans on New Years Day and his best friend and fellow Eagles fan was killed. The Eagles invited him to the divisional playoff game and the Superbowl. When several players saw him along the parade route they brought him on the bus and then Saquon brought him up to give his speech with him.

This is also awesome.  This young man saved his sister by child vering her body with his when their car was hit after the place crash in Northeast Philly.  AJ Brown went and visited him in the hospital after the Superbowl win.

I’ve been married 20 years and we’ve never celebrated Valentine’s Day. I expect my husband to show he loves me everyday by picking up after himself, helping with the kids, dishes, laundry etc..

I work K-12 and in my area President’s Day is not a school holiday. I wish they’d play the Super Bowl on Saturday. At the end of the day though I was in bed by 10:30 on a school night after watching the game and that’s about normal for me.

Who cares if the Superbowl is on Valentine's Day lol I don't get why that matters.

It doesn't; this is some hideously sexist (not to mention outdated, to the extent the stereotype ever existed) bullshit where men love the Super Bowl and women love Valentine's Day, so having both on the same day will create a nationwide argument among heterosexual couples as to how to spend that afternoon/evening.
