It wasn't jazz-jazz. It's more funk and rock. That's the kind of vibe I'm talking about! It might appeal to more people. Apparently, what they're doing with the halftime is working, so they've got to go with what works. That doesn't mean that a lot of us will watch it though! I've read a lot of negative comments about the show on other social media. Quote BTW Chit Chat, on a different note, Desmond Howard, who won the Heisman as a member of a Big Ten program, who the Super Bowl MVP half a decade later. Still a small sample size since the beginning. I posted about this last night. The elite group I was referring to all won a Heisman, a college national championship, and a SB. Not to take anything away from Desmond, but I can't find any info on him winning a college national championship (not that he wasn't great!) Therefore I stand corrected. In the annual "Way Too Soon" or SO EARLY favorites for 2025 & 2026, Kansas City is favored to be the 3rd team to win 3 Super Bowls in 4 years. Which, if that happens they would also become the second team to reach 4 consecutive Super Bowls (and the first to win at least one game in that span). Buffalo, Philadelphia, and Baltimore are tied for second best at +700 (the Eagles were previously tied with the Chiefs at +650 followed by the Ravens and Bills for 3rd best immediately after the Super Bowl ended). Detroit is 5th at +900 and San Francisco is next with a 17 to 1 (previous 14/1) chance to finally get what would be a record-tying sixth Lombardi. Lamar Jackson, who several thought would go back to back for the NFL MVP, opens as the 2025 favorite at 4.5 to 1. Josh Allen is right behind to repeat at 5/1, followed by Patrick Mahomes and Joe Burrow, both at 7 to 1. Jayden and CJ are after those two 1 Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/3173-nfl-thread/page/591/#findComment-8577618
DoctorAtomic February 11 Share February 11 What is 'what works?' Besides the people that complain about everything, you're getting 125 million viewers. Ad revenue goes up every year. Even if you're not watching the halftime show, you're leaving the tv on. It's not like you're worried that if the halftime show falls flat, people aren't watching the superbowl next year. 3 Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/3173-nfl-thread/page/591/#findComment-8577619

Yes, that's true, so on the financial side of it, it's still a win-win for the NFL. If they go by public opinion (reading various social media platforms), and there are more people unhappy with a particular aspect of the SB, then TPTB might think about doing something different to appeal to even more people. If it's a small minority of people who don't like a particular aspect of the SB, then they'll continue with what works best for the show. As I said earlier, aside from the halftime show, I enjoyed the pre-game coverage and all of the other singers. I'm just a lone voice stating that the halftime show wasn't my cup of tea. I'm not mad about it. I just 'nothing' it. I went to the kitchen and got some more homemade chocolate chip cookies! Then I came back and watched the rest of the game. I enjoyed this SB more than any in the past few years. 2 Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/3173-nfl-thread/page/591/#findComment-8577638
Raja February 11 Share February 11 I'll say it. A NFL player is about 4 times more likely to be Black than a randomly pulled American. And the NFL doesn't want to present a show where only the players are Black. As R&B is the legacy racial crossover music and hip hop is that for the modern era, with some Black faces now turning up in Bro Country. So R&B and hip hop are increasingly being the show music of choice. Now it is 5 years in a row before we get to the Latin show. Now the decade before that the R&B might come from Justin Timberlake or a multi racial Bruno Mars Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/3173-nfl-thread/page/591/#findComment-8577642

bosawks February 11 Share February 11 If I don't like the halftime show I just get up and get more chips. Mahomes is on a trajectory to be the GOAT but even if he replicates the front half of his great career he would still "only" be 6-4 with 4 blowout losses and 20 TD's and 14 interceptions to Brady's 7-3 with a 4th Quarter lead in all 10 and 18 TD's and 4 interceptions. I thought Brady was almost good in the NFC Championship game but he was back to being bland and boring for the Super Bowl, like someone at FOX told him to stop being informative. Anyway, if he continues to announce at the same time that he is being an active minority owner of a NFL franchise that is some supreme bullshit. 5 Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/3173-nfl-thread/page/591/#findComment-8577804

I actually thought he was good when late in the 4th quarter it didn't matter anymore. We knew the Eagles were going to win. He went on a big long schpiel about losing the SB to the Giants and how he's still not over it, and then seemed rather relieved that Mahomes didn't 3-peat and Brady's GOAT status was still not de-throned. It wasn't exactly nice, but it was refreshingly candid and I thought gave a good window into the kind of fanatical focus that he was famous for. He dropped the genial announcer persona. This is the Brady we saw screaming at his O-line during games. 2 Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/3173-nfl-thread/page/591/#findComment-8577872

It would be interesting to know the breakdown of the fans watching on TV and who they were rooting for. One reporter in the stadium estimated a 60/40 split with more Eagles fans there. The hype was there for this game, so I'm not surprised that a lot of people tuned in to see it. Let's see, we've got our Chiefs fans; then the non-Chiefs fans rooting either for or against them, and ditto with the Eagles. How many football fans were "hate" watching against one team or the other? I've always liked the Fox NFL show (Bradshaw's group). I thought the overall presentation from pre-game to the end was good. I think that Brady did a good job in his first season of broadcasting. He wasn't a dud as some others have been. I've enjoyed listening to him breakdown certain plays from a QBs perspective. Magog February 11 Share February 11 (edited) I don't have an NFL team that I'm a fan of, so hate watching a Super Bowl is never in my vocabulary. Unless, it involves Jerry Jones & Stephen Jones. Thankfully, we will never have to worry about that for a very long time. Speaking of these 2 losers, I hope they're really feeling some type of way about the Eagles winning another championship (their 2nd). Jalen Hurts got more playoff wins in his pretty short career (6) than the Cowboys have in the last 25 years (4). It'll be even more better when that streak of not reaching the NFC Championship Game gets to 30 next season. The only bad thing about the Eagles winning it all is that Kevin Hart will be all over the place bragging about it everywhere (especially on ESPN) & he will never go away. Bernie Mack, Richard Pryor, & Robin Harris (absolute legends in comedy) would flat out despise Kevin Hart today. Here is the logo for next year's Super Bowl. Carey Saturday at 03:59 AM Share Saturday at 03:59 AM I think I've definitely made reference to that for the past several years. One of many reasons why I think the league will add 18 games sooner rather than later. The "excuse" is simple. "Fans want the Super Bowl to fall on Presidents Day Weekend which would give America a 3-day weekend." Which isn't that automatic. Several people still work that day. People that are off include USPS, financial institutions, and K-12. Plus, Presidents Day is scheduled to be observed on 02/15/2027 as it's the 3rd Monday in February. So if the NFL changes nothing between now and then, they'll get their wish for a 3-day weekend, along with a Valentine's Day conflict. I cannot wait for those fireworks! Of course, in addition to Roger, Tom & Jerry not caring about the conflict, I imagine they could test something that'll become permanent. That would be starting the season during Labor Day Weekend (a week early). Then things end on 02/07 (like in 2020). Or they could test a double-bye (2 open dates for the NFL teams), which would put the Super Bowl on 02/21. I hardly think the NFL will suffer here, but it'll be interesting to see what happens. Either way, it's a situation that will not come up again until the 2037 season, concluding with Super Bowl 72 in the calendar year of 2038.
