S08.E04: It's Sabotage

Recommended Posts

I'm just wondering why Jeff feels he has to sell Gramercy.  Season 1 was all about them flipping houses, buying, renovating and then moving in until it sold and then moving on to another one.  Gramercy is the first house that they actually stayed in for a long time.

He's got some eye though.  That catalogue shoot was something else.  Channa was such a bitch thinking she could sabotage him like that.  I wonder if she thought she could get him off the job, not realizing his name means a lot.

Channa deserves whatever she gets for thinking she could just "forget" to bring what Jeff asks for, every time, and somehow that would bite him in the ass with their boss instead of her.  That's not how it works, honey - if you do a poor job, it reflects poorly on YOU.  How is it possible that a company large enough to have these big, expensive catalog shoots didn't already have a checklist in place?  There were hundreds of pieces being trucked in, are we supposed to believe there was no inventory paperwork to accompany it?  Come on.

Zoila has never been funny or interesting to me, I don't see any reason for her to have scenes on this show at all.  In all these years, she hasn't been able to increase her vocabulary even a little, or improve her English?  Calling people a bitch or an idiot is still all she's got, and we are supposed to think it's cute or clever?  No.

I'm sad to see Grammercy go, but I'm looking forward to seeing what he chooses for their next home.  I had forgotten about the amazing city skyline view they had there.

I know it won't happen, but, I wish Jeff would wake up and see Zoila for the leach she is. Free room and board, a paycheck and answering a kid's question about what rag to use so that he can do her job is too much trouble for the bitch? Hate her.

I'll never understand what it is about Zoila that Jeff adores so much.  He takes amazing care of her - remember when he gave her an EFFING CAR???  Mystifying how such a smart, funny, generous man who likes to surround himself with people who make him laugh would decide Zoila is so special.  Blech.

I'll never figure out why Joe is "diva" for asking which rag to use. What an odd word choice. Zoila refuses to give him an answer, basically says "figure it out yourself," then yells at him for choosing a white rag -- one of the two types he suggested. Joe may be a space cadet, but Zoila is a grown lady with decades of work experience, and she looks like a real jerk when she pulls those stunts. I hope her role on the show is decreased. If Jeff wants to keep a toxic person in his life that's his business, but it doesn't make good TV.

I wondered that, too.    a water pitcher, glasses, and some books.   should be easy.

also, does Jenni do any work now?     Or is she there just for the cameras and comments?

it looked like he picked a nice hand towel from closet.      instead of a rag.

Nobody should have expected Joe to know the difference. All Zoila had to do was give him a straight answer the first time instead of immediately calling him names and posturing for the camera. I'm pretty domestically-savvy but I wouldn't assume towels in a utility room were the nice ones; I'd be more likely to assume that at Chez Lewis, even the cleaning rags were nicer than my guest towels.

Why did so many of them have to be at that shoot?  Rediculous.

Jeff sure has changed. There was a time he would have lost his shit, screaming and yelling about Channa's sabotage. Maybe he's on anti-depressents or anti-anxiety meds or something. I'm not used to the calm, logical Jeff.

Zoila will never change because Jeff thinks she's funny. I can not stand the way she treats Gage. her blatant disrespect is not the least bit funny to me.

It could be because he's in a happy, stable relationship.

He was with Gage a while before Gage was ever on the show and he was still manic then. Even last season, when Gage was on the show he was still high strung. What ever the reason for his mellowing out, good for him. I guess he recognized he had a problem with his temper and is working hard to do something about it.

I agree with everyone above about Zoila.  I really don't need her on my TV screen.  But at least God answered my prayers and Andrew is gone.  Zoila is certainly the lesser of two evils.

I am happy that we get to hear Vanina, the mousy assistant, speak this year.

Love the shoot - that was enough house porn for me!

Add me to the group who can't stand Zoila. When the show first started I thought she was funny but now I find her lazy and crude. I hope her treatment of and disrespect for Gage is for the cameras, that she's playing a character role, and she doesn't speak to him like that IRL. I can't imagine putting up with that from a household employee and if I were Gage I would put my foot down and insist to Jeff that she either show some respect or get the hell out. I didn't used to like Gage. He seemed cold and I thought he was using Jeff for his money, but they seem to be a good pairing and he's grown on me. I also didn't think he was very good looking but now I find him very handsome.

I have always liked Gage but I think one of the problems was how they introduced him where he just seemingly suddenly appeared in both Jeff's business and has his boyfriend when in reality he had both those roles off screen for a couple of years before he was on the show.

Zoila is playing a character for the cameras. In earlier years she got a lot of attention for playing the sassy housekeeper, so that's the role they have her play. It is very annoying.

Jeff's design is pleasant enough, but I've seen it a million times. That's true of a lot of design. None of them are geniuses, despite what they and their minions tell themselves.

Speaking of which, I didn't like the Channa bashing.  It wasn't clear to me that she was sabotaging Jeff, especially the way her editing was truncated and clumsy. Maybe she was disorganized or someone else was responsible for the precious accessories; there were better ways to handle it. The Jeff Lewis Sycophant Team taunting her within her hearing was pretty ugly, not to mention Jeff running to her boss and complaining about her on national television.

What was really going on was that Jeff was having to share the job with her, and we know Jeff doesn't play well with others. He just had to passively-aggressively go after her. For all we know he jeopardized her career. She's not a spoiled TV personality, with a Bravo paycheck and a paint line and other offerings to fall back on.

In this episode, Jeff and his gang of sycophants were especially smug and self-congratulatory. I notice that Jenni usually very carefully tries to stay out of it and preserve her reality TV reputation.

Time for Zoila to retire.  I am fortunate to have someone come in once or twice a week to help me out, and I bend over backwards for them.  She was happy about having a helper.  She needs to get over herself.

Also, normally they show the prices that Jeff gets for his homes.  What did he get for Gramercy?  And what did he put into it?

I saw $2.89 million at some point, maybe as the list price. The sale price hasn't been mentioned on the show that I'm aware of.

Jeff mentioned spending something like $1.5 million on the next house (purchase, not renovations), so it's possible they did similar numbers on Gramercy.

2.89 million was the sale price. I will say it makes since to move if they are having children because of all those freaking stairs getting up to the house. Not for fear of the kids but for schlepping all their stuff up and down that hill.

Today's mail brought the Living Spaces catalog that Jeff's team worked on in the most recent episode.  Page 3 has a Styled By Jeff Lewis, Creative Director credit, along with a photo of him.  In fact, the first 25 (out of a total of 60) pages contain a Styled by Jeff Lewis credit.

I have no idea why I got this.  I've never bought anything there.  But still, nice to have, since I watched it being created (so to speak).

It's weird because it looks like he owned Gramercy previously.  I don't watch this show religiously so IDK.

Oh, that's right!  He did own Gramercy twice, I had completely forgotten.  He bought it and flipped it, but had regrets and considered it "the one that got away", so when it came available again, he bought it for himself.

Could also be that he used to be his own boss and now he's working for others.  I also do believe he's calmed down a bit, for whatever reason.  But you can tell he definitely knows his place when he's in charge 100% (aka his flipping)  and when he's not (his customer renovations and styling shoots).

Yep he did own it.  He flipped it and however many years later was told it was back on the market.  He went back the he was horrified at how the owners let it go to crap and felt he needed to save it again.  At that time he felt it was meant to be as the place for him and Gage to settle down in so he essentially renovated it AGAIN especially for what they wanted in a house.

I'm so glad he seems to be building an actual office though.  I bet his employees will be glad as well.  I can't remember but is there a house on that property for them to live in or is it just office suites for everyone? I remember him saying one would be Zoila's but I can't imagine a purpose for her living there if there wasn't an actual house hold for her to clean up after, unless that will be her retirement home and she'll maybe just look after the offices.

There are three houses on the property that he used to rent out, he has owned it for a long time, I think at one time Jenny and Chris lived in one of the units.

One is going to be offices, one for Zoila and Gage and Jeff are going to live in the third until they find their next project.
