Adam Wainwright is back on the bump tonight against the Snakes, no live BP, no rehab start.  He's one of my favorite - if not the favorite - players of all time, and I just want him to do well.  I honestly care more about that than the final score at this point.  This is a sentiment he would absolutely HATE, and the fact he would hate it is part of the reason I love him, if that makes sense.  LOL

It pisses me off that some "fans" are saying he's selfish and only cares about getting to 200 wins, when:

  1. They would sell their souls for just one win in MLB;
  2. Obviously, 200 is a big deal to him and he's never said otherwise;
  3. The Cards suck this year, we're selling, and Waino getting 200 might be the only thing we have to look forward to for the rest of the season;
  4. We have literally no one else, the bullpen is exhausted, everyone we've called up from AAA has tanked;
  5. It's clear to me that he's taking the mound tonight at considerable risk to his own ego - with no live pitching, there's every chance it will be more of the same from his last few starts - to give the team whatever innings he can give them.

Basically, any Cardinals "fan" who isn't pulling for Uncle Charlie to find some devil magic and finish his last season with dignity and a few more wins can fuck right off and go "support" another team.

Had the lead after 5, then the bullpen gave it up. This is the story of the 2023 Cardinals.

ETA - we got the win, so yay? But Gallegos, the "winning" pitcher is the one who surrendered Waino's lead. That just seems patently unfair (but I realize wins for relievers are basically nonsense). That's baseball for ya!

@Jane Tuesday

I just looked at the box score for last night's game. I see that Wainwright gave up only 2 runs over 5 innings, and he kept the ball in the park. That's got to be encouraging for what was, in essence, a rehab start.

I hope he can continue to pitch well and can get those 2 wins he needs to reach 200 for himself and for his fans.

I smell a double header tomorrow…

As long as it's not Sunday.  Bad enough that they moved the game to Sunday night.  I'd rather not have to deal with traffic leaving the first game.

I'd actually rather not go at all, but the person I gave the tickets to at the start of the season can't do night games because of kids.  Sigh.

The 2023 Yankees' offense: Coming to your town to reduce your team's ERA.

I was actually glad the Os walked it off in the bottom of the 9th. It was inevitable. Extra innings would only have prolonged the agony.

Congrats @ebk57. That was a great play by Santander in right.

SANTANDER IS MY MORTAL ENEMY

Your team will probably get into buying by Monday. My team sent off their primary closer for this year. My heart ain’t bleeding for the Yankees.

Bartolo Colon will be retiring . .  . as a Met. The team will be commemorating that on September 17. First 15,000 fans get a “BIG SEXY” long-sleeved shirt. I am not kidding about this.

I would like both teams to lose. Or maybe a 14 inning game where they both burn through all their pitchers.

Sorry @ebk57!  You have me curious though- what is a skipjack?

The name of the minor league hockey team around here affiliated with the Caps for a while.  Named after the boat.

I honestly missed most of the conversation (because I tend to tune out Smoltz whenever possible) so I'm not sure how they got to the point where he said he didn't know what a skipjack was and why the team would be named that.  That part of the convo caught my ear.

I believe they were talking about one of the players on the team, which team I don't remember.  It came after a couple of pictures of young Kenny and young Ken R was shown.

Jays fans, please look after our boys, especially Pauly D. He may not have lived up to his big contract, but he has an even bigger heart.

It's a pretty good clubhouse I think, and at least he will have some other Cards there. I think most Jays fans are just upset about Bichette, but I for one am glad Jays got someone to fill in. I'm not sure it moves the needle in terms of the team being successful this season, but we need someone regardless if Bo is going to be out.

Jays wore the cursed red unis yesterday, so I pretty much figured the night would be a disaster.

ETA- I am not superstitious in any aspect of my life, but baseball- 100% lol.
