Scandoval breathed some last life back into the show  but even that could only last so long. I like the Valley and was sad to hear that Lala and Sheana are filming season 2. It’s like they got a severance package.

I’ll probably check out the new cast but I feel like I will not relate to a new group of 20 something’s.

Yeah, Scandoval gave this show a lifeline, albeit a temporary one.  I like the concept of people from this show "graduating" to The Valley, but not LaLa!

I'll give the new cast a chance but will probably be like "Oh yeah, Jax did the same thing in season 4"! for the entire time.

Schwartz filmed for the second season of The Valley, as well.

And this why i think Scwartz is worst of all...it's easy to miss that he has a real dark streak. He's just as bad as Sandy or Jax, he just retreats to his little boy persona whenever he gets called on it.

He was not a good boyfriend and husband to Katie (who is not a saint herself), and he played Jo who he even took to his parents' house as it was revealed in one Bravo aftershow episode from the latest season that aired recently, but he pretended he was only friends with in public/on the show.

When they say Lala Scheana and Schwartz have joined The Valley,  do they mean actual cast members or friends of? I am hoping they are in the background of a few group scenes like season 1

The extend of their involvement is not known.

A show I don’t watch and probably won’t pick up now.

Wondering if the reboot will keep the same name, VPR.  I have to admit that I will probably watch the reboot because it was a lot more fun to watch VPR with struggling 20 year olds than it was in recent years.  Do we know if this reboot will go to the Las Vegas location or stay in LA?

I don't think anybody knows except for the producers. Interesting idea about the reboot filming in Las Vegas since this is the city where LVP's most restaurants are. Wolf is also in Nevada (Nevada side of Lake Tahoe).

So close to half the old cast? I understand why Ariana isn't interested, to a degree Katie as wel. Ariana was hurt a lot by not just Sandoval but multiple members of the group, and I think Katie is probably tired of dealing with Schwartz and the likes of Lala too.

I would have guessed Sandoval and James would be interested in The Valley. I know James is killing it as a DJ, but reality TV money is pretty good for the work that's required. It's really a matter of whether your mental health can handle it or not.

As much as Vanderpump Rules was fun and I enjoy Lisa and wished we got more with the same cast, I admit it has been silly to have her name implying she rules them at this point. Even if it's her show, none of them have been servers for her for many years (if they ever truly were in the first place).

Judging by interviews from even a few days ago, but before the Bravo announcement, Sandoval and James hoped the show would continue with the old cast members. I think the other three realized that it wouldn't happen. Lala was trying to join the cast of The Valley since May, just after the VR reunion. There is always a possibility for old cast members to make (guest?) appearances on the reboot according to reports.

I still don't know if scraping it altogether was a good idea. The ratings were still really good, and recasting and getting the same magic is probably tricky. It might be round two of RHONY. I do agree it's funner to see messy 20-somethings living "the best days of their lives" in Los Angeles than 30- and 40-somethings adulting in The Valley (or Vanderpump Rules). I don't think this is a Jersey Shore situation where the cast is now boring older though. Most of them could still really bring storylines. We could have gotten updates on how their restaurants were doing and navigating business failures. We could have gotten to see the Toms' girlfriends. We could have seen Katie date. James' life seems the most calm despite being the youngest, DJing and still with his lovely girlfriend Ally. He brings the funny though.

I just remembered James and Sandoval may not be welcome on The Valley due to their sordid history with Kristen.

It sounds mean to say, but aside from being too old the other problem with this group is most of them are sober now.  Which is great for them as human beings and parents, but not so great for reality tv 😄. I'm sure Lisa can't wait to start swanning back into Sur, demanding that everyone "shut up" and get her "hoff a gloss of rose" but I think she'll be the only one who enjoys that.  The problem with the new cast will be the same as on other reality shows - they've gone on for too long so everyone knows the game.  When this show started they were all ignorant and just doing their stupid drunken things.

Yes! That was part of the charm. None of them knew the show would become huge, expect maybe Lisa Vanderpump. I remember Brandi being all smug about Scheana getting her bread at Sur and acted so above her because she was a Housewife and Scheana was a server. Scheana was already starring in a reality show on Bravo when she said that, but then the show exploded.

I found this on Facebook. I have no idea how reliable it is.

Word’s getting around that the cast is furious and blaming Ariana for the reboot.
Apparently Ariana demanded over a $1 million salary to return to #PumpRules with CONDITIONS: NO filming with Sandoval or Lala, and a limited schedule to take on outside projects as well.
Bravo said absolutely not and without Ariana agreeing to join, producers decided to bring in totally new, younger, cheaper talent that they could still use with the Vanderpump brand.

Eh, IMHO the move was entirely financial. The combined salaries of the original cast is likely 10-20x what they'll pay the newbies, not just Ariana. Katie, Scheana & Sandoval are all OGs earning >$500k/season. It's likely none of them would've agreed to a huge pay cut.

Bravo/Evolution knows they can easily find wannabe reality stars and pay them pennies on the dollar. The fact they're keeping the name of the show the same is them hoping to retain their audience and advertisers while slashing their production costs.

Agree and I'm a fan of Ariana's, don't blame her for being done with the toxicity no matter the $$$, and I will miss watching her on TV. However, it was an ensemble show. Love them or hate them as people, the OG cast made great TV.

Oh I know Schwartz is no saint. I wish Katie never married him. I've definitely hated his actions throughout various seasons of the show, but some of the others almost seemed to get a kick out of being cruel. I'm not comparing Schwartz to just Sandoval or Jax either. James was a real piece of work most of his years on the show. I like him now, but he could be pretty nasty, and not just when he was 21 or 22 either. Lala isn't as bad as when she first started on the show, but she is still really aggressive about stuff that's not her business. If I had to pick a friend out of this bunch, I would still pick Schwartz over a lot of them.

I think production having Tom literally chase her all over an event to get his "redemption arc" and then screeching at her for not playing along may have been the final nail in the coffin for her on this.   People forget that this filming was done only months later, and I imagine it was still raw for her.  Her breaking of the fourth wall to ream out production was pure gold.

And knowing Lala, I'm sure she's still nursing a grudge that her whole Randall cheated on me storyline was dismissed and relegated to practically ONE conversation in a restaurant.  This was supposed to be HER season.  Instead all the editing focused around to the inevitable reveal of the affair.  Then, when she realized Ariana was getting all these opportunities and she was offered NOTHING except podcast appearances, she did what she always does - turned into a ***********.

I wish everyone well re The Valley.  Wasn't interested when it had Jax and the Cornpone and won't be interested when it has Lala and Scheana.

I have to wonder, though I don’t care that much, whether it will be Jax or his ex that retains the spot on the show.  I rather liked her and her name escapes me just now, but Jax should be relegated to the most backwater competition shows on streaming networks.

I concur, but I don't know if LaLa has improved or not. She'll act like she's matured, only to revert to form by the end of the season.

Honestly, as sad as I am to lose one of my comfort shows, this could actually get really epic. With old VPR on The Valley, the new visiting SAH and maybe TomTom...VPR could truly become something like never before, really. Well, I can hope :) Still going to miss the familiarity of the old though. But I do think it was probably a wise decision on Bravo's end.

They should blame themselves for not being interesting enough to carry a show without her.

Ariana hoped she would get a spinoff featuring her sandwich shop. I don't think this would be interesting.

I'm not sure the VR reboot would be interesting either. It was tried by adding several new cast members a few years ago, and it didn't work.

One does have to wonder if they believe the are far more interesting than they actually are.   Yes indeed - life in a sandwich shop.  How did Subway ever fail to pitch this?

  • LOL 5

I don't think she wanted a spin off, I think she was just saying if you want to film a few scenes at our sandwich shop, we're open to it. Smart business move to make that suggestion, imo

I will give the new VPR a try but it really needs to be it's own thing.  I tried Vanderpump Villa and there were two cast members literally saying they were the new Stassi and Jax.  If I want Stassi and Jax, I'll rewatch VPR.  I only watched one episode of VV

I think a lot of Bravo cast members believe that they have many loyal fans, based on how many social media followers they have. I think when viewers see them in real life and yell, “I love you!” they believe it, and believe that the fans condone all of the behavior, when in fact, some of us just find it shocking or appalling (and somewhat entertaining). I watched Jax in Season One, because his arrogance and stupidity stunned me, not because I liked him.

I was not talking about the article posted above. She mentioned before that she would like to have a spinoff based on her sandwich shop.

I don’t think this will be successful. People are used to the cast that’s been around forever, and I’m afraid they’ll accept no substitutes. Off the top of my head, I can’t think of a single addition (outside of Rachel, ‘nuff said) in the later years who had any staying power.

This is what happens when a show outgrows its premise, too. Were we still to believe these people were struggling  in LA? Perhaps at first, but the restaurant angle was ridiculous after awhile. It should have been retooled when they started to move on and got older, or had their own plotlines outside of SUR.

The way Bravo likes to beat dead horses, this didn’t surprise me.

On the outside here but I think the reboot is a good idea if they aren't going to cancel the show. The current cast is played out, and none of them work at the restaurant anymore, nor do they need to. So the premise of the show and title makes little sense if they are going to stick to the restaurant theme.
