Having said that, however, I did not know for the longest time that George's version was a cover - I didn't find that out until just within recent years. So thanks, @BlueSkies, for sharing the original - fun to hear that version :). I really like it! Especially the music - lots of horns :D! 3 hours ago, Jaded said: I didn't find out that this was the first version of a music video made for that song until maybe 10 or so years ago. I loved the second one which is the one I think most of us watched and ended up becoming popular... And thanks to you for sharing this version of the video. I'd never seen that one before (hell, I hadn't seen the version I posted until I started watching VH1 Classic back in the early 2000s - up to that point, I'd just known the song). Cute and also VERY of its time with the teens' outfits and everything :p. And was that Jeff Lynne I saw towards the end singing with George? Makes sense he would pop up, though, of course ,given they were in the Traveling Wilburys together. 2 Link to comment

Champagne Supernova is a masterpiece. They were HUGE,HUGE,HUGE in Great Britain in terms of #1 album sales, #1 album charts, #1 song charts, #1 singles sales, and #1 concert takings, They put on the largest concert in English history when they played two nights in Knebworth in 1996. Their debut album, Definitely, Maybe was a freaking masterpiece. Their battles with the band Blur were featured on the nightly news. They never caught on in the U.S., with the exception of a hand-full of songs (Wonderwall, Don't Look Back in Anger, and Champagne Supernova). They got off to a really bad start in the U.S. when they played the Whiskey A Go Go in 1994. They had been up for 3 nights straight after having accidentally taken meth (they thought it was coke). They were absolutely caned, and there were two different playlists given to the brothers. When I watch that concert now, though, it's not as bad as people say. Ultimately they fell off as the Gallagher tensions reached the boiling point. [More than you needed to know. Sorry.] Edited November 24, 2022 by Oosala 1 Link to comment
Jaded November 23, 2022 Share November 23, 2022 Bringing up George Harrison again since this video came to mind when posting about him the other day. It's worth at least one complete viewing. I saw it in a "vintage" episode of SNL on NBC and was surprised they left it in with the way those episodes are edited. 2 Link to comment
One4Sorrow2TooBad November 24, 2022 Share November 24, 2022 (edited) Excellent followup Oosala, you're right, seems like after Standing On The Shoulder Of Giants album hit in the US ,the sales just dropped off and they got less airtime. Those first 3 albums though were HUGE. I think many fans thought the success of those first would continue for another 10 years or more. Edited November 24, 2022 by One4Sorrow2TooBad Link to comment
Jaded November 26, 2022 Share November 26, 2022 (edited) John Taylor from Duran Duran looks really cute in this video in my opinion. I didn't know about this song which came out in 1985 until the early 2000's when I'd use Winamp to listen to online radio stations that were on a site called ShoutCast. Robert Palmer was a unique looking guy. I don't mean that in a negative way just that I can't remember seeing anyone who looked like him. Edited November 27, 2022 by Jaded Link to comment

Jaded November 27, 2022 Share November 27, 2022 YouTube suggested this one not long after it came out years ago it was like they knew how much I love cats. (probably from watching cat related stuff). I prefer them over a lot of humans actually. I've loved this song ever since I first saw the video. I have it saved in one of my lists so I can find it easily if I want to share, listen or both. I can kinda relate to the lyrics too since I've been known to kind of run away from situations to either save people from myself or running so they won't have a chance to hurt me first. Rushmoras November 28, 2022 Share November 28, 2022 Currently, on fourth Taylor Swift album. Got to say that I liked her first albums a lot better. Also, god, so many songs about break-up. Were does she get the inspiration to write differently about the same thing over and over? :D Link to comment

Cobalt Stargazer November 29, 2022 Share November 29, 2022 Heard this recently by accident, though it was recorded in 2016 and not released until 2020. Chris taught the song to his daughter first, decided he liked it so much he should give it a try himself. 1 Link to comment

Bastet December 2, 2022 Share December 2, 2022 I am never not in a Cher mood, but lately I have been specifically in a late '80s comeback Cher mood and popped 1987's Cher and 1989's Heart of Stone in the CD player. Heading to YouTube to share my favorite tracks here, I see her account uploaded a bunch of old videos in HD quality last year. Fantastic. My favorites from Cher: "I Found Someone" "We All Sleep Alone" My favorites from Heart of Stone: "After All" (I also love Chances Are, the movie this was the theme song for) "Just Like Jesse James" "Heart of Stone" "You Wouldn't Know Love" "Still in Love With You" And, of course, "If I Could Turn Back Time" Now onto 1991's Love Hurts, featuring that version of the title song, plus two favorites: "Save Up All Your Tears" "Love and Understanding" And whatever else I may rediscover. 4 Link to comment
Annber03 December 2, 2022 Share December 2, 2022 I definitely remember hearing "I Found Someone" and "Heart of Stone" when I was a kid :). Those are some of my mom's favorite songs of hers, too. And "If I Could Turn Back Time" is just iconic, both the song and video. Mind, I can't hear it anymore without also thinking of "Will & Grace", but still...:p. 1 Link to comment

I'm probably closer to your mom's age than yours, then, and, while I love much of Cher's '60s and '70s music (I'm a '70s kid), and some of her '90s changed sound, I have a particular affection for that Sonny-free comeback in the late '80s. It felt like a continuation of Tina Turner making it big without Ike; a great time for women breaking free and having their own talents properly appreciated after having been previously known as half of a duo. 2 3 Link to comment

Rushmoras December 5, 2022 Share December 5, 2022 (edited) Well, only one album left with Taylor Swift. While on the topic of RED (Taylor's version), less I forget later, I only really liked this song from the new ones she posted. Fearless (Taylor's version) in this regard was so much better. ADDENDUM: wait... not really new, just longer. Yeah, the shorter version was in the original album. Oh, well, never mind then :D Edited December 5, 2022 by Rushmoras Link to comment

I commend you for being able to make it through so many of her albums. I can take her music in small does. I've never been interested in listening to a whole album though. The song isn't really my taste but I did enjoy the nostalgic touch of the video. I had no idea they were still together and make music today 1 Link to comment

Rushmoras December 7, 2022 Share December 7, 2022 (edited) Hooray! 🎉Finally listened through Taylor's discog. Got to say, that personally I liked her earlier works the most perhaps, even though they were just her dealing with various brake-ups through songs. Though, as time moved on, I could see the maturity behind most of her new stuff. Is she my cup of tea? Not really, but I can see why many like her stuff. Also, maybe it's just that I haven't started listening to many a bands discogs that much, but this was the first time that I've encountered an artist having more than an hour worth of songs in, I think all of her albums. True, I listened to Delux and whatnot editions on Spotify, but, yo, seriously, have yet to encounter an artist that does this. So, kudos to her. Maybe, from songs that really stood-out for me... here's a couple of mentions: Mary's Song; Untouchable; You're Not Sorry; Better Than Revenge; Back to December (Acoustic); State of Grace; Holy Ground; Treacherous (Original Demo Recording); Out of the Woods; New Year's Day; Paper Rings; August; Illicit Affairs; Betty; Willow; Evermore; Don't You (From the Vault); All Too Well (From the Vault); Anti-Hero; Vigilante Shit; The Great War and Dear Reader. And, here's a subjective assessment of each album: 1. Taylor Swift (2006) - 6.7/10 2. Fearless (Platinum Edition) (2008) - 6.8/10 vs Fearless (Taylor's Version) (2021) - 6.9/10 [Not really by much, but in terms of new songs, as I've mentioned earlier, this is the best re-released album of hers] 3. Speak Now (Deluxe Package) (2010) - 5/10 4. Red (Deluxe Edition) (2012) - 6.4/10 vs Red (Taylor's Version) (2021) - 6/10 [explanation for the lower score - 30 songs vs 22 songs. From her new songs I only liked 4 and put them in my folder. In general, they are pretty equal, but my assessment metrics are different lol] 5. 1989 (Deluxe) (2014) - 6.9/10 6. Reputation (2017) - 4/10 [I liked this album the least... too club mix musicy for my ears] 7. Lover (2019) - 6.7/10 8. Folklore (Deluxe Version) (2020) - 7.1/10 9. Evermore (Deluxe Version) (2021) - 6.5/10 [even though it's scores lower than the previous one, but I liked this album (in terms of song quality and lyrics) the most of all her repertoire] 10. Midnights (3AM Edition) (2022) - 6.5/10 [side note, at times, I was worried this going to be another 'reputation' incident, but a bunch of ending tracks saved the day] Edited December 7, 2022 by Rushmoras 1 Link to comment

When David Letterman was brought up in the Celeb News thread I googled his name along with asshole and found out she had called him one during her first appearance. I ended up watching most of her interviews on both of his network shows including the one with Sonny. I remembered a few of them from the CBS show. During her first appearance on Late Night after she told him she thought he was an asshole he spent the rest of the interview bothered by it. It would seem like he moved on then he'd bring it up again. I loved Cher's demeanor throughout it all. It might sound mean but I found the fact that it did bother him so much to be kind of funny. For anyone who hasn't seen the interview it's worth the 16 min watch and goes by pretty fast. 2 Link to comment
