Also sorry for your loss, Anela.

I don't want to post this after these sad notices but there's nowhere else to put it, so.

Remember on TWoP when you had little achievement titles after reaching a certain number of posts?  I wish we had that here.  I remember I was inordinately proud to achieve "Couch Potato" level.

I know, I know.

Oh, I remember those last days "over there" and mourning the inevitable loss of my Status (I think I was a Stalker or something) and my Reputation Points.  I know, it seems like such a silly thing, but those thousands of "Likes" gave me some strange sense of validation.  Sally Field voice : "You like me, you really like me!"    What a silly dork I was.  :~)

But I tested the waters here, and immediately knew I'd found a new home (learning that "Glark" was at the helm sealed the deal for me).  The very first interaction I had was on the Deadwood forums, with a Mod, no less!  I was so stoked to be conversing normally with a Mod who was also a fan, and who acted like a friendly human being.  Then I started "seeing" a lot of familiar faces from TWoP showing up, and the transition wasn't the least bit traumatic.

This really does feel like a kinder, gentler place, where you can get to know your fellow posters and make some great friends in the process.  No matter what forum I'm in, I can always find fellow animal lovers to "bond" with in the Small Talk threads.  :-)

Hi guys, apologies for the low profile recently. I returned from vacation to learn that a good friend was downsized from his job after 25 years. He did not see it coming because, although his department was restructuring, he had picked up extra responsibilities from the departure of colleagues. He was let go, escorted out of the building and that was it after working there for most of his adult life. He's in his mid-fifties now and hasn't had a job interview since he was 32. The business world has changed a lot in that time so his former company offered him career counselling. He has vacation pay accrued and a generous severance but he's feeling lousy, and I'm doing some hand holding and worrying. I'll give you all the highlights of Barcelona soon, whether you're interested or not!

Until something is done about the corporate tax rate, this will continue unabated. My company just axed 80% of my department. My job was said to be safe, but my miserable boss (who is being laid off) caused one client to not renew and our work is shrinking. Add to the fact that unless you're over 55, female, and in the inner circle of hags, you cannot be promoted unless it's a "lateral" (i.e., more work and responsibility with no pay increases) move.

From what I've seen, the baby boomers are refusing to retire. Gen X (me) has been waiting for our turn, but it's not happening. Its one thing to have some management over 65, but when they're the majority, it just kills a company. We have zero people under 35.

Yes, Hubby and I love the show! It has all the camp. humour, and gore that we expected. And Ash is still his arrogant, selfish, yet somehow stupidly charismatic self.

I am looking forward to seeing what the character Lucy Lawless is going to be like. (That's the only downside to the half our run time, you can't see everyone in every episode...)

Well I feel bad.  I realize I had done some hate-watching/posting of the other show in this franchise.  But the amount of hate-posting I see here in these episode topics has made me really want to stop coming to this one.  I don't mean something constructive like "I found the actions of _______ in the episode to be out of character and I wish the writers had done a better job."  More like "I hate this fucking show and it blows dead goats and this beloved character is a pile of pig shit and that female actor is ugly and too old to be on TV and it grosses me out to see her because there should only be supermodels in the ZA."

I'm all for free speech but it would be nice to see something that didn't make me embarrassed for the person who posted it. It seems to be only this show forum.  Other fora I frequent seem to be much more polite and thoughtful, even if they are criticizing a given episode.  I realize fully it would be excessive to have two threads for each ep - one for regular discussion, one for hate watchers.  I just wish some folks would show a bit more...civility.  I guess that's a silly thing to ask for in a forum about a show set in the Zombie Apocalypse. I can dream, right?

Anyone else feeling that?  And I just realized that this very post may be a violation of the rules here - if so, please accept my apology.  I know ignorance of the law is not an excuse for breaking it but I really didn't see a prohibition on this subject.

You can whine here. We plug our eyes if you come here and start babbling last night's spoilers in case somebody hasn't caught it yet but aside from attacking other poster's you can say pretty much anything. It's a catch-all. I'm thoroughly annoyed with the manipulation the show is doing to long time fans, i.e. not giving us what we want, stringing us along. But I'm not totally disgruntled yet, just gruntled.

I wonder if Vegas survived Kj? And what presents we might be receiving. :D

I don't remember if I got to couch potato on TWoP.

It survived...and I did too, even if it didn't feel like it all the time.  Damn I am to old to act that way, well at least for like a week straight....lol

Good news is even though I had spend my vacation money trying to fix/help my dog I hit pretty good when I first got there and left with the same money I brought.  It was a great time and much needed.

  • Love 5

Very nice! Vegas is good like that, I came back with pretty much the same as what I arrived with. I was more shocked when I went to the Mohegan Sun and they suck all your money immediately. I had to read a book to kill time til my friend was off work. My $20 in Vegas occupied me longer. Hell, on a cruise ship $20 went further.

Don't know if you caught it,  but even NPR did a story about this yesterday- along the lines of "is the show just jerking fans around at this point?"  I'm a die hard fan of TWD but it still made me laugh.  (I would post a link here but it does contain spoilers so I think I should refrain).

But basically, if even NPR accuses you of messing with fans, it may be time to examine your actions and amend them as necessary.  Yes, I'm looking at you, show.

OK, ya'll. Can anyone suggest a TV show for me to binge or get caught-up on? Here's my CV:

Shows I LOVE: Slings and Arrows, AD, Parks and Rec, Nu-Who, BB, IT Crowd, 24, It's Always Sunny, and WD :)

Shows I later found and really liked: Better Off Ted, Jericho, Psych

Shows I've considered: Flash, Lost (never watched, scared of how disappointed people seemed to be with it near the end and the actual end), Gotham, Buffy

Shows I tried but didn't finish: Z Nation (only the pilot, but it didn't work for me), OITNB (I like it well enough, but I never really feel like watching it), Black Books

Any suggestions?

Edited by morgankobi

I just have to say this because Deanna made me realize something as she beat on the fence last episode.  There is a good chance that in a ZA that I wouldn't be able to resist the impulse to run a bottle along the fence doing my best Warriors impersonation "Walkers, come pout to play-I-ay!".  On reflection,  I would also likely be that person that listens to the speechifying only to throw my hand up in the air at the end and exclaim "Acting!" ala Jon Lovitz's Master Thespian.  Someone would definitely take me out early.  That is if I could survive that long without TV because I found that without TV/internet for prolonged periods (stupid Comcast) my ability to cope with stress (talking to Comcast) is non existent.

So @morgankobi,  I'll throw a few out,  We only cross on Nu-Who, WD, 24 and Jericho in terms of what you have watched and like.  But the ones you like, I didn't hate just never watched them.

This is always tough because I never know how far back to go...

Drunk History.  BSG.   Fringe. Chuck.  If you are ok with the hokier aspects of Nu-Who you might be able to deal with Babylon 5 and Farscape (the effects and puppets, respectively put some people off.).

You could catch up on X Files or Twin Peaks before the reboots/continuations.

I'd put these in a category of you should watch and then bail when you start getting frustrated with the show (because they start good for a few seasons and then get worse and don't really rebound): Community, Buffy, West Wing, Eureka, and Lost

If you are looking for something to watch but don't want t worry about watching every single episode: Psych, Monk, The Closer, 3rd Rock from the Sun

The one season or less and cancelled too soon that you may or not be able to find somewhere for free:  The Tick, Space Above and Beyond, and Keen Eddie

Edited by ParadoxLost

I'd second the the Battlestar Galactica recommendation. I'd add Sherlock and Brooklyn99.  I can't think of anything like Sldings and Arrows out there.

Babylon 5 is pretty rough sledding in the beginning, with some pretty terrible acting to go with the poor effects but it gets better (maybe skip the first season) though I never more than liked it.

I'm not sure what AD or BB are ...

  • Love 1

Thanks, you guys! I keep forgetting about Battlestar Galactica (don't tell Dwight), but I loved the Portlandia skit about binge-watching it. I also never watched Fringe, so those two or a X-Files re-watch are great ideas. I have never even heard of Space Above and Beyond-how intriguing.

I would like to watch Sherlock, but I am trying to wait until they're done before I start. Very few episodes and long waits between seasons is stressful.

The rumblings of what happened at the end of Dexter has kept me away from that one so far.

If anyone ever creates anything like Slings and Arrows, they can have all of my money!

Space Above and Beyond came from some of the non Chris Carter X-Files production./ writing team. Basically, rookie space fighter pilots battling aliens attacking Earth Colony's with some previous enemy AIs hanging around all menacing and genetically engineered humans being treated as lesser humans but my favorite characters.  I'm not sure its streaming anywhere.  I had to buy DVDs.  But if you find it and watch it, when you get to the pre-cancellation cliffhanger, go check the wiki page because the showrunners explained how it would have ended.

Sherlock isn't a serial -- each episode is a 90-minute movie and they may never stop making them at irregular intervals whenever their conflicting schedules align so it may never "end".

Personally, I wasn't a big fan of Space Above and Beyond but I got hung up on some story choices that probably wouldn't bother anyone else.

I just had a weird thought given the BBC, comedy and genre shows on your list -- did you ever try Red Dwarf? It had a long run so some of it is utter crap and all of it is low budget but I thought on the whole it was very funny.

Haven't the "seasons" of Sherlock ended with a cliff-hanger, though? (I am so over those, and even before "Thank You").

Since I have the books, I did try Red Dwarf once upon a time.

British zombies sound fun!

!

I had heard grumblings too, before we watched. Knowing that it wouldn't end wrapped up with a little bow, I was prepared. I didn't mind it so much, and the rest of the series made it worth it.

Sorry about the formatting. On my phone, and it is a pain to fix things.

I echo most mentioned here. I will admit I was dragged to each and every one of my favorite favorite things. I poo poo'ed Buffy for a long time, didn't start watching until Season 4, my very first Buffy episode was "the Body" I had heard rumblings that Buffy's mom had died but I thought it was past tense. My mother died when I was in high school and seriously without me being the chosen one, I could be Buffy, it hit very close to home so I rewound and watched from the beginning. And I told myself the other day I need to do a complete re-watch binge.

Firefly is a fave, and I watch anything containing any Firefly cast members. It's how I ended up watching Chuck. I adore me some Jayne.  I'll be in my bunk.

I've met very few people who have ever heard of Keen Eddie! Holy crap I loved that show!

  • Love 1

I loved Firefly, too, and I still get a little angry that they never gave the show a chance. Of course, I loved Mal and Jayne.  I have the series on DVD and the 'closure' movie Serenity on DVD and Bluray.

I STILL haven't started watching Jericho but it's definitely on my next binge watch list.  I've recently been catching random episodes of Friday Night Lights, which I've discovered was a pretty decent show and would like to see it in order.  Instead I just get confused because I'll see an episode from 2006, then one from 2011, and the last one I saw was 2009.  I would like to stream it but it's not offered on Netflix or Amazon Prime.

I've only watched Season 1 and most of Season 2 so I don't know if they have a cliffhanger for every season. There is however, perfect closure after every episode except those cliffhangers so I'd say just don't watch any season finale episode until you're ready to start watching the next season.

I watched Friday Night Lights on Netflix twice through. I just checked and still see it there…

Well I feel bad.  I realize I had done some hate-watching/posting of the other show in this franchise.  But the amount of hate-posting I see here in these episode topics has made me really want to stop coming to this one.

Honestly, I can't even fully grasp the point of hate-watching. Life is far too short to watch shows I don't like, much less actively hate.

I also never watched Fringe [clip]

Fringe is worth its weight in gold! I did a full-series marathon last year during the zombie winter hiatus, and loved every second of it.

I STILL haven't started watching Jericho but it's definitely on my next binge watch list.

Another seriously cool show; I'm still sulking over its cancellation. There are flaws in the early episodes, but once it hits its stride...definitely a keeper.

  • Love 1

I need to start a list of the shows I want to watch because I want to watch Fringe, too.

I've watched a couple seasons of Orphan Black but never finished catching up on it but I really liked the shows I did see.

I don't get hate watching, either.  If I don't like it I just stop watching.  Two examples:  'Under the Dome' and 'Falling Skies'.

Yeah it has been a tad excessive lately.  But I'm an old school TWoP snarker anyway, and I don't blame them entirely.  We need to vent.  I'm still watching the show, not hate-watching; I'm just gruntled right now like nachomama.  Maybe I expect too much from a zombie show but it's hit some high peaks in the past and I'm always looking for a return to those times.

The first season of Falling Skies was good and showed promise.  The second season I didn't like nearly as much and the third season was just stupid and I stopped watching after the first few episodes.  I think they kept changing show runners or something like that.

Oh, oh oh! I'm going to see Serenity in a theater tomorrow! It's a weird Joss Whedon weekend and raising funds for a kidney transplant. Technically I don't gotta pay anything but they're looking for donations. Yes I've seen it several times, never in a theater and never with Firefly nerds. :D

I loved Freaks and Geeks back in the day too, so many great people in that show!

Whoa that sounds kinda familiar....  kidding, I think Gimple's been good, aside from his weird ideas about show momentum, pacing and what-have-you.  And I want him to stop trying to make me give a damn about the ASZhats.
