S01.E13: McAllister Auto Loves the Ladies

Not a bad episode. Connor stuff was just dumb but otherwise it was mildly diverting.

One thing though, when we first see the tire store Audrey appears to be working there at least some of the time.  Did I miss a reference to her having done that before Mandy, Georgie and the baby moved in?  Because what I saw made it seem like she was not involved and her changes were ultimately pointless.

Yes, but I think that was all on Young Sheldon. They retconned for GM.

Yep, and it was a totally different store layout, too.  Audrey seemed to be running the office and Jim was manning the counter that was not facing the front door like now but was on the left as you enter, if I remember it right.

So, if Audrey is not involved with the tire store in GMFM, is she retired (at her age?)?  Or is she supposed to have always been a housewife?

No, but I think they’re making her the babysitter. Definitely though they’re hoping no one noticed.

It was a little dumb, but I got a kick out of the song he made from the household noises.

The rest was kind of annoying -- see the problem, sort of address the problem, half-ass a fix to the problem, then ignore all of the above.  A hardware store or mechanic's shop will be more "inviting" to women when we are no longer condescended to or flat out ripped off.  Potted plants won't do it (although a toilet seat helps).  News flash, boys, there are, in fact, some of us helpless little girly-wirlys who have a clue about tools and cars!

Definitely. Been there. Dealt with that. But this is set in the 90s.

Connor wouldn't need to sample sounds for very long (especially the doorbell). He should be able to take one 'cycle' of each sound and then then duplicate them.

Will Connor wind up being a well-paid DJ or noted for music samples or an avante garde musician?

Maybe that's why this episode felt like it could have been written in the 90s, or actually more like the 60s.

Silly woman comes in and tries to beautify a tire store, pause for indulgent laughter, eventually gets tired of this and goes home (where she belongs) to cook and clean and look after the kiddies.  Lesson learned.  Ugh.

So TRUE!  One time I took my car to a mechanic for new brakes.  Once the job was completed I noted that the brakes were making a weird noise.  The mechanic tried to placate me by telling me "they had to break in."  My husband (then boyfriend) went to the mechanic himself and told him that even l didn't believe that nonsense!  The mechanic just knowlingly laughed.  He fixed my brakes again, but I never went back to him again.

Well, besides being WAAAY too many flowers, cleaning up the shop was a good idea and a way of showing how Georgie is always looking for a way to get a leg up on the competition. If they can keep the shop relatively clean and welcoming to female customers, word will get around. Women buy tires too!

And nice to see Ruben have a few lines.

I'm rather bored with every episode being about the various family members arguing with each other.  Maybe have a subplot that actually develops over time?

This was a real strength of both BBT and YS.  It's hard to see what they can do here though except the slow imploding of Georgie and Mandy's marriage?  Connor evolving into an adult male?

He might. What he's doing has been around for a while. It's the art of making music from non-musical noise or "Noise Music". It's a little avante garde for sure but not unheard of. And it has actually found its way into techno. music in the form of ambient and industrial techno. I'm waiting (and hoping) for Connor to become the surprise breakout success of the family sooner or later.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Noise_music#:~:text=Noise music is a genre,musical and non-musical sound.

My husband was a manager in auto. repair shops and new brakes squeaking is actually VERY common and is most often caused by them breaking in, so telling you that was not just to placate you but had a basis in truth. On the other hand if you think they are making a "weird" noise it could be the sign of a real problem and so it's best to have it checked out rather than take the risk. And that's what my husband used to tell customers. He didn't assume it was just the normal noise as customers don't really know how to tell normal from abnormal. So he always told them to bring the car in to have it checked out. And you wouldn't believe how often it happened either. Like I said, it's very common! I even had it happen myself once.

When I was in my early 20s I went car shopping with my boyfriend.  To be fair, he was older than I was, but that doesn't excuse what happened.  We walked in, I said I was looking for a 5 speed manual shift(this was back in the early 80s).  The sales dude turned to BF and said "If you would teach your daughter to drive a stick she's have more options".  Yeah, that didn't end well for sales dude.

I'm torn on Conner.  I don't mind him as a character, but not sure we needed another quirky brother.

Maybe she was doing that until Georgie joined the business, which allowed Jim to move to the office, and Audrey to stay home with her granddaughter.

Maybe he was just looking for the perfect sample to "cycle".  Also, I'm not sure what time this show is set in (the 90s?), but the technology likely wasn't what it is today.  Didn't he play his song for Mandy on a cassette?  I wasn't really impressed with the final product, to be honest.  Maybe this is going somewhere for him, but I don't know where.
