shapeshifter Saturday at 11:03 AM Share Saturday at 11:03 AM (edited) I assume our login emails will not be visible on the forum, since that would worse than negate the reason for the change. Right? Followup: I just logged out and logged back in using my email instead of my username. My username still displays. Does this means I'm all set now? Or might I have to repeat on my other devices or browsers? Stay tuned to find out? CM-BlueButterfly Saturday at 02:02 PM Author Share Saturday at 02:02 PM There's no date yet for the switch-over. We have a developer's site ready to go to see how everything works and, hopefully, make the transition as smooth as possible. It's awaiting activation by the site owner (who's been away for the holidays). As many shows are on hiatus and some community members may not visit the forum as frequently at this time of year, I wanted to give you enough time so that everyone gets a chance to check their email if need be. 3 Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/151313-log-in-changes/#findComment-8546308
CM-BlueButterfly Saturday at 02:12 PM Author Share Saturday at 02:12 PM I'll let you know when we have a date for the switch-over and I'll also send a reminder about the email log-in a few days before it happens. My username still displays. Does this means I'm all set now? Or might I have to repeat on my other devices or browsers? Stay tuned to find out? @CM-BlueButterfly I just did the same - logged in with my email - and got logged in with no problems. BUT... I had some forums with unread posts on my homepage. I opened one and read all the unread posts. It stayed displayed in bold on my home page. Did the same with two others - they stayed bold. Tried "mark all as read" in one of the forums. Stayed bold. Does this mean the email login process is not ready for prime time? Should I go back and log in with my username until you give us the all-clear? EDITED - after I posted the above (which happened on my Win11 desktop, Firefox), I went to my phone (iPhone, Safari) where I'm still logged in with my username. Forums were appropriately shown as read there. I opened a couple more and they behaved as expected. Then I went back to my desktop (still logged in with email) and it's now behaving as expected. I'll leave things as they are for now (logged in with email on desktop, username on phone) and see what happens... SweePea59 Saturday at 04:45 PM Share Saturday at 04:45 PM This is a nightmare for me. I have an old password written down, but it has less characters than the amount of asterisks showing as my password here. I tried to log in to the email I used when I set up my acct here, but since I haven't used it in so long it is no longer useable, since I never used it during some two step verification mandatory set up. So I can't reset my mystery password since I can no longer access that email address. If I change my email address, so that I can change my mystery password, it says here that I have to re-activate my acct. I can't find the instructions here for re-activating an acct. I would really prefer not to have to start new here since I've been here since March 2014. What does re-activating an acct mean? Will my acct and any of my stored info and stats change? And how do I reactivate my acct, once I change the email and the password? And can I change the email and the password at the same time? If I change my email and then have to log in again, I won't be able to since I don't know my password. I am hesitant to make any of these changes since I may never be able to sign in again, as myself. But apparently that seems to be on the horizon anyway. I know that in the big scheme of things, nothing really matters, especially logging in here. But it's the little things in life that really get you. The big things, you accept. But the little things that should not be a problem can push you over the edge. Can you please help me? Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/151313-log-in-changes/#findComment-8546365

AllAstronauts Saturday at 09:13 PM Share Saturday at 09:13 PM Chiming in here. Staff know there are going to be edge cases where people have not only forgotten emails but have actually lost email accounts and have been just logging in with usernames for eons. You'll be able to ping staff to get stuff resolved (some of you have already begun so...) . No one will need to create new accounts and lose the old ones. Yes, the change is basic net security these days. People can see your usernames and spam login tries with common passwords using your username - not only can they maybe guess your crappy password he says looking at the people needing to be seen but they can also lock you out of your account for x-minutes with bad login tries. This applies to just about most sites these days so if you have not encountered similar email-to-login requirements elsewhere expect to along with mandatory two-factor logins and all that. This site ain't that far into security yet but I could turn two-factor on and just not make it mandatory...hmmm.... No, no one than than staff can see your email addresses so no problemo there. People are just returning from holiday breaks so these changes are not any time in the immediate future. I just turned on the new dev site the other day so that should give you a pointer to where things are. It's no great shakes to convert the old app to the new standards, and minimal work really to do the look and feel stuff. But, as mentioned in other threads, major software version means it's a great time to clear the decks, look at the landscape, clean the kitchen, and look at upgrades and new features for you guys. I'm 99.999% sure some fun API stuff (think: show data and media) I was hesitant to bring over to the front-end due to cost might actually be financially viable and I've got notes from staff and my own notes on changes/maybes and I've actually started puttering with <gestures broadly> the last two days. Mobile users will be pleased as the software more mobile friendly. You'll want to create a home screen link to the website on your mobile device and just treat it as an app that way. No previews yet, just started all this yesterday. Yes, some of you will get an early gander to dogfood this stuff and yell at me and the usual. Dark mode is a native feature, there is a new post editor, and so on, but it's still the same forums you know. 1 Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/151313-log-in-changes/#findComment-8546521

paulvdb Sunday at 09:12 PM Share Sunday at 09:12 PM (edited) If you're not sure if you remembered your password correctly you could always open an incognito window for your browser and try to log in. Or try to log in using a different browser than you normally use (if you have more than one browser installed). Or try to log in on a different device than the one you normally use. That way you will know for sure if you remembered your password correctly without having to log out and potentially not being able to log in again.
