Lantern7 November 21 Share November 21 I'm still not feeling hopeful. Once again, my mind cycles through unrealistic fantasies, most of them involve 9 to 5-style torture. And yeah, I know Dolly Parton wouldn't condone Donald Trump getting hoe-tied. Well, not that much. I need hope. I need a "dub" from the good guys. Juan Soto could sign with the Mets, and that wouldn't cheer me up that much. Damn, after the Mets lost the NLCS, I was feeling hopeful for their future. If you know about the Mets, you'd understand that's pretty hard to do without imagining any and all potential setbacks. This was back in October, where I was convinced Kamala could win the Presidency. Shows me what I know, right? The others, the ones who voted - or claimed to vote - because "it's the economy" are the ones who may, possibly, wake up and realize they've been taken in by a snake oil salesman. But these aren't the ones who are going to be really hurt, and we all know that - what makes me so angry is that these people -- every single one who voted for Trump or who pulled a Pontius Pilate and didn't vote at all -- don't give a damn about refugees, migrants, immigrants, women or any of the many marginalized groups that now have targets on their backs thanks to the rise of Fascism in your country. That is simply not true. You can't put everyone that voted for Trump in one general box. Without going into a long dissertation, allow me to share this. And yet they still thought he was worth bringing back anyway. Again, the guy literally violently tried to overturn a democratic election. Those 70 million people, ust like the rest of us, all saw it happen. And they still voted for him again anyway. There is no excuse or justification for that. And people can have buyer's remorse once they see the batshit insane picks he's coming up with for his cabinet and realize just how much he is refusing to take his job even remotely seriously. Except, again, even if they're regretting their vote now, no sympathy. They knew exactly what they were getting with him, because he's acting no different than he did before. For me what it comes down to with people who voted for Trump this time around are: (1) Did they vote for him because they believed him when he said he won in 2020? (2) Did they vote for him even though they knew he lost in 2020? Either scenario is appalling to me but the second is even worse because that means they knowingly and intentionally voted for a man who tried to overthrow their government. (3) They held their nose (so they say) and voted for Trump because "he can fix the economy". These people are deluded. The US economy is mirroring the world economy right now and time and good decisions will hopefully bring about improvements but people want simple solutions to complex problems and if you want simple, well I guess Trump is your man. (4) They voted for him because he "hates all the people your relatives hate". And these are the people saying things like the biggest problem facing America are transgender people...I can't even with these people. Beyond contemptible. Avaleigh November 21 Share November 21 5 hours ago, Soapy Goddess said: That is simply not true. You can't put everyone that voted for Trump in one general box. The majority who voted for Trump know perfectly well what he's capable of and they voted for him anyway. It's frustrating and heartbreaking and in some ways it feels like hate won. That being said, @Soapy Goddess is right that there are people who voted for Trump because they had valid concerns and thought he was their best option for having those concerns addressed. They aren't the majority, but they do exist and it is important to reflect on why the democrats lost certain people so that they can start winning elections again. One of my friends just had a baby. Her baby was about two weeks old when she voted for Trump. To be perfectly frank, she doesn't know much about politics. (I'm actually being kind here. She knows next to nothing.) She's the kind of friend you go shopping with and get makeup/workout/ selfcare/cooking tips from. She's a wonderful person she just doesn't really care about non pop culture current events including politics. She's a Black woman who has had two family members be victims of crime this year alone. In addition to that she had to drive by the same two homeless encampments every day for years without any sign that things are going to change or get better. Keep in mind she's also not reading or watching real news. Just TikTok vids. She's the one I mentioned earlier who was watching those scare tactic vids on migrant caravans. I was surprised that she would even look at something like that, but apparently her sister started sharing those sorts of videos with her. In her mind she voted because she thinks it's the best way to keep her baby safe. She also feels that she was better off financially under Trump. She doesn't understand the nuances regarding inflation and the pandemic. She's just going by her lived experience. She wasn't voting because she wanted to punish a bunch of marginalized people. She wasn't voting because she's in favor of racism or because she thinks Trump "won" back in 2020. I explained a few of the reasons I couldn't vote for Trump. I didn't go into a whole tirade about it because I didn't want to make anyone uncomfortable. I just narrowed it down knowing that he's a liar and a terrible person. I doubt very much he's going to make things better and am pretty confident it will only get worse. I should have brought up January 6th, but it didn't seem like the right moment. Anyway, I mention all of this because I feel like there's a 5th category to the ones @Dimity mentioned. 5) People who voted for Trump because they misguidedly think he will make their lives better. They don't know much about Trump or his policies apart from a few soundbites. They probably vaguely heard about him having legal troubles but figured they must not be that serious since he's still running for office. They weren't holding their noses while they voted for him because they really don't know much about him. If this election has taught me anything it's that there are *a lot* of uninformed voters in this country. 5 5 Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/150441-chit-chat-the-feels/page/36/#findComment-8513910

peacheslatour November 21 Share November 21 From CNBC, November 21 2024 Matt Gaetz said Thursday he is withdrawing his name from consideration as President-elect Donald Trump’s pick for U.S. attorney general. “I had excellent meetings with Senators yesterday. I appreciate their thoughtful feedback - and the incredible support of so many,” Gaetz said in a statement posted on his X account. “While the momentum was strong, it is clear that my confirmation was unfairly becoming a distraction to the critical work of the Trump/Vance Transition,” said the former Republican congressman from Florida. “There is no time to waste on a needlessly protracted Washington scuffle, thus I’ll be withdrawing my name from consideration to serve as Attorney General,” he said. 7 3 Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/150441-chit-chat-the-feels/page/36/#findComment-8514017

I do think we need more places like this thread. I don't know if right wingers are better at finding each other or if they have more time on their hands but overall I do think people who are more liberal/progressive have a harder time finding each other. Especially if you live in a red area. I have very few friends. Online and in real life. For two reasons. One I prefer it that way and two I have dealbreakers. And there were times I met someone and thought oh they seem cool I could hang with them and then they say something like Obamacare will be the death of us all. It was an ER nurse that said that. I absolutely believe that. I also think it has to do with how often people are exposed to Fox. They don't just see it in their homes by choice. I have seen it on in doctor's office waiting rooms (which makes me want to change doctors). Restaurant/bars. Nursing home common rooms. Yeah, I have one longtime online friend, who lives thirty minutes from me, and I keep forgetting. After the election, she said that we should meet up, but I'm so used to being alone now, my social anxiety is dialed up to a million. Since my mum died, and she was mostly housebound for a few years before that (2016), not having a relationship with my sister, and her not being here since April 2017, I haven't had other women around me, since she was last here. One of mum's friends invited me to join a group that got her painting again, last year, but I was dealing with vertigo, and I forgot to get back to her. 7 minutes ago, fairffaxx said: Gaetz has withdrawn from consideration as Atty General. Meh, this does seem like Trump nominated him to simply make his other nominations more palatable and as a distraction. It also seems to have helped Gaetz keep the ethics report sealed. 13 4 Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/150441-chit-chat-the-feels/page/36/#findComment-8514031

The expression punchable face is probably a little over used but honestly if it's true of anyone it is very much true of Gaetz. 9 Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/150441-chit-chat-the-feels/page/36/#findComment-8514041

I too have suffered from paralysing anxiety (social, general, whatever) since my husband died in 2013. It took years to right itself & I was able to get out (was even able to get over to Ireland to see some friends/family in both '15 & '18). It improved more and more and then BAM!!! - 45 & C19 in '19 & '20 brought it back. And again, improvement (more trips to Ireland to see family/friends in '22 & '23 & '24) until the election earlier this month (and a bit from some still-undiagnosed health issues earlier this year) has it rearing its ugly head. I've had to force myself to get out*. I've a couple friends who're going thru similar stuff. We all force ourselves to get out. And we forgive ourselves when we just can't. Those undiagnosed health issues sent me to a gym & working w/ a personal trainer. She helps keep me accountable to myself, so that's a help. I hope you (& all of us really) are able to put any/all anxiety squarely where it belongs: your rear-view mirror. *And sometimes, when it's just too much, I'm reminded of the opening lines of the song Sister Golden Hair: Quote Well, I tried to make it Sunday, but I got so damn depressed That I set my sights on Monday and I got myself undressed 3 1 7 Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/150441-chit-chat-the-feels/page/36/#findComment-8514054

PRgal November 21 Share November 21 Dude is SOOOOO guilty. I don't get why he was at a party sounded like it was mostly younger people. I mean, sure, he was still in his 30s when the party involving the assault of the underaged girls happened, but when I was 34 or however old he was at the time, I was already a married adult doing adult things. Wild parties happened a decade ago. That said, 17 year olds shouldn't be at wild parties either (saying this as a mom, of course). But a 30-something at a wild party is way worse - especially when you're taking advantage of people. 9 Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/150441-chit-chat-the-feels/page/36/#findComment-8514061

I partied hard as a teen and if my friends and I had some some old guy like that at one of our partys would have laughed at him. "Eew!
