I hate to break it to Peachy Keenan but 78 is hardly a vast age at which one can start bragging about achieving longevity.  Isn't this usually reserved for those hardy souls who make it to 100?

Although it would also depend on one's parents.  My paternal grandfather died in his early 70s (colon cancer).  My dad is turning 78 this year and his siblings are all in their 70s as well (I think my youngest aunt is 70 or 71).  But then again, my paternal grandmother lived until she was 96 or 97!

With good luck and a fair wind most of us will hit the 80 mark at the least and nowadays many are going on for much longer. In my family my grandmother   died of cancer at 55 but two of her sisters made it past 100 and a third sister made it to 97.   So 78 ain't so great.

I don’t judge him by his looks, but I’ve never thought that he was handsome. His wife is also twenty-three or twenty-four years younger than him, he apparently hasn’t been faithful to any of his spouses.

“Zero minutes feeling depressed ever.” And she knows this, how?

Our dads are the same age. My mum died a few months before her 71st birthday.

I can't speak to depressed but ever since he came down that escalator he's been an angry, incoherent mass of perpetual grievance.  That can't be good for your health.  Well it certainly hasn't helped the health of most of us!

Outdoor sports? Riding in a golf cart is not a sport. The Felon In Chief is also not rich (that's why he's always trolling for dollars from his fans). "Wife still cute"? "Handsome"? Peachy must wear rose colored Coke-bottle glasses. "Enormous self confidence"? 😁 DT is the most thin-skinned president ever. Peachy must be a comedian. Thanks, PK, for the chuckles.

Wife still cute?  WTF does that mean?  That is supposed to make him look better or help him live longer?

Popular?  Not really.

Enormous self confidence? Don't you mean narcissism?

Many children who's mother's raised them.  Time with grandchildren? I bet he can't even remember their names.

He has no sense of humor.

Outdoor sports?  He rides around in a golf cart and swings a club occasionally.

The Trump administrations have made me question my ability to pick up on satire. This is reading like satire because golfing with carts is in no way an outdoor sport**, "enormous self confidence impervious to setbacks" and "zero minutes feeling depressed ever" read more like insults than compliments, and Trump has never had an incredible sense of humor. But then I remember his supports showing up to his rallies wearing maxipads attached to their ears. Is Peachy one of those?

For the past few days,  I have been trying out different phrasings (in my head) to say this as well, politely so as not to get censored.

Thank you, Dimity.

There's no point.

I had to block my brother when he wd not answer simple, direct questions or provide sources for his claims. He resorted to personal insults which was the last straw. Oh, I'll talk to him when I do my semi-annual  visits but politics will be off limits. I have no qualms about walking/driving away if he persists.

I have a family member on ignore (social media and 'real' life) right now because they can't seem to differentiate between supporting Gaza and supporting Hamas and has started to stray into anti-Semitic holocaust denial territory.  I've reached the point with her where I don't know if I will even be able to attend any family gatherings where I know she'll be.  I won't argue with her, that's not the point, I just can't look at her right now 😔.

That is what I do to stay sane. There's over 8000 replies on this thread, I do not have the time, energy, or patience to read all of them. I skim the thread, read the posts I want to read that day, and respond to the ones I feel like responding to. There's no rhyme or reason to this, it really depends on the day and what device I am using. If you quote my post hoping to get a response, I cannot guarantee that I will see let alone want to respond to it. And it's not that I necessarily do not want to have a conversation with you about whatever topic. I just either don't see it or don't have the spoons to answer. Since I spend 40 hours a week in front of a computer, I don't want to be attached to a screen at home. I do try to unplug for at least an hour a day outside of the time I would normally be like sleeping or taking care of housework. This past Saturday, I accidentally left my phone at home for like 5 hours as I went to church, dinner, ran errands, and had drinks. It was bliss.

Here’s her book description. Definitely not satire. 🤯

Quote

Spot-on, often satirical, always insightful, contributing editor of The American Mind and mother of a brood, Peachy Keenan argues that the only way we can save our families, ourselves, and the world—even California!—is by embracing our inner domestic extremists, and sweeping failed notions of third wave feminism and identity politics nonsense into the garbage can of history.

ARE YOU A DOMESTIC EXTREMIST?

You might be if you have common sense.

If you think there are two sexes period—and that “gender” is a grammatical term you learned studying high school French. You might be a domestic extremist.

If you think “fat acceptance” is wrong and unhealthy. You might be a domestic extremist.

If you think Critical Race Theory is itself racist. You might be a domestic extremist.

If you think civilization depends on men and women getting married, staying married, having kids, and raising them to be hard-working, faithful, and, well, sane. You might be a domestic extremist.

If you think your family is more important than your career—then you’re definitely a domestic extremist, and Peachy Keenan is here to be your spokeswoman and guide.

Peachy Keenan contributing editor of the American Mind and mother employs her trademark wit, humor, and insight to show we can save our families, ourselves, and the world—even California!—if we unleash our inner, instinctive domestic extremist. It begins with embracing the Domestic Extremist Manifesto™:

In This House We Believe:

Parents Are the Bosses of Their Kids
Babies Are Good, More Babies Are Better
Dating Is for Suckers
Two Sexes Are Plenty
Your Career Is Overrated
Feminism Is how the Unpopular and Undateable Cope with Life
Mainstream American Culture Destroys Families
We Are Going to Win!

Keenan shows how by becoming “just a little bit more domestic,” putting first things first—the really important things like God, family, and neighborhood—we can win the culture war for real culture, rescue our families and ourselves from the insanity that surrounds us—and—absolutely and no fooling—save humanity itself.

Are you up for it? Sure you are—and the instruction book is right here! Become a domestic extremist. (Warning: you may already be one.)

DOGE Quietly Deletes the 5 Biggest Spending Cuts It Celebrated Last Week

The cuts, highlighted on an earlier version of the “wall of receipts” posted by Elon Musk’s team, contained mistakes that vastly inflated the amount of money saved.

The last of the original top five disappeared from the site in the early hours of Tuesday, even as the group claimed in its latest update that its savings to date had increased to $65 billion. The website offered no explanation for why it removed some items or how it arrived at the higher total. Neither the U.S. DOGE Service nor the White House responded to questions Tuesday morning.

The “wall of receipts” is the only public ledger the organization has produced to document its work. The scale of that ledger’s errors — and the misunderstandings and poor quality control that seemed to underlie them — has raised questions about the effort’s broader work, which has led to mass firings and cutbacks across the federal government.

I actually read her book, trying to get into the mind of MAGA. Her book is just one grievance after another. She thinks everyone not just like her is out to get her. She has nothing but hate for "ugly, undateable feminists", the LGTBQ+ community, childless cat ladies, "pant-suited girl bosses." She thinks everybody is out to get her because she's a SAHM of five children who goes to mass on a weekly basis (she converted to Catholicism as an adult). I can safely say, most of us don't have problems with with SAHMs of large families who go to church. The reason why people probably aren't fond of her is because she's got a sour attitude and is a rude, spoiled, privileged bully.

Anyway, I'll probably write a scathing review of her book sometime in April for my blog.

What really grinds my gears about tradwives is that they always feel like they're being scrutinized and attacked by other feminists.  And while I know there are seats of second wave/third wave who probably do because they reject any patriarchal structure, just live and let live.  If a woman embraces the tradwife life and finds fulfillment in raising children and supporting her husband then good for them.  As long as it's their choice.  What all us feminists are trying to accomplish is teaching future female generations that it's not the ONLY choice.

I was raised Catholic. And thought I don't want to brush people with a wide brush, I have often found people who convert as adults to be quite performative. Their faith is not rooted in empathy and kindness towards others. They are quite arrogant and full of themselves, maybe because they weren't raised with a sense of guilt and shame that cradle Catholics are.

No, she claims her parents weren't religious at all and she never went to church and wasn't exposed to any faith at home.  She says they celebrated Christmas and Easter in completely secular fashion.

Not sure, but I think her husband is Catholic and brought her into the fold.

Just watched last night's (Monday Feb 24) Daily Show and highly recommend it.  John Stewart was on fire (and ended up accidently cutting his hand) talking about the ridiculousness of what Doge is doing - villifying federal employees and indiscriminatingly firing them isn't solving waste, fraud and abuse (unless you think such being a federal employee is a waste).  He talked about if they were really serious about finding waste/fraud/abue they'd be looking at the subsidies the gas companies get ($3 billion - which I think if we fired every federal employee wouldn't be saving anywhere near that), subsidies drug companies get, the carried interest loophole for hedge fund managers, the money the military is spending on planes/subs/carriers when the next war will be fought with drones,  etc.  I'll offer my own pet peeve - farm subsidies.

He showed some of the recent CPAC meeting and how those speakers described federal emploiyees was just sickening.  As I've noted before I'm a retired federal employee (as was my Dad who was also retired military - so yes I grew up as a military brat) so that may color by feelings a bit,

I'm also annoyed at how gleeful Musk, Trump and company describe these firings.

That is something women like her never understand.  Being a true feminist means you want women to have choices. If women want to be SAHWM and that makes them happy good for them.  Problem is when those women think all women should live like that.

Now correct me if I'm wrong but doesn't someone have to bring a case showing there was harm and the law needs repealed? And won't it have to go through lower cases first?

Yes, a case has to be brought before the Supreme Court in order for them to reverse the ruling on same sex marriage.  The House resolution is purely performative and meant to appease the MAGA base.  I am sure the Republicans already have cases in the pipeline to challenge Obergefell v. Hodges and this is meant to allow the Republican members of Congress to brag about how they were on the right side when the Court strikes it down.

Call Fed Ex and have 99 more Jasmine's Crockett's sent overnight to the US Senate.

When speaking to reporters on the steps of the U.S. Capitol, Crockett was asked what she’d say if given the chance to speak directly to the SpaceX CEO.

Without hesitation, Crockett said she’d tell Musk to “fuck off.” Amid several laughs from bystanders, someone in the background can be heard telling Crockett, “Well said.”

Same. I know I was fortunate to be raised in a progressive Catholic church, and that has definitely colored my faith. We had Guitar Masses and cared about the environment and had priests who were human. Still got a big does of the guilt. One thing I think trips up the adult converts is the fact that they rarely deconstruct their old beliefs and end up adding Catholic beliefs to them. This leads them to become a different version of Cafeteria Catholic than us Cradle Catholics. Sadly, they choose the "abortion is murder" no birth control route and ignore the rest of Catholic Social Teaching.

My favorite type of adult convert is the one who chooses to convert after being married to a practicing Catholic for decades and immediately becomes the Christmas and Easter Catholic.

I went to a very progressive all-women's Catholic college. Feminism was greatly appreciated, and we were encouraged to value our education and use it in our daily lives, including the workplace, our homes, and our communities.

How that "choice" is shaped and made is the crux of it for me, and allowing a generation of teenage girls/young women to consume trad wife content & marketing without any pushback is dangerous, imo. Many trad wives are promoting the idea that young women don't need an education, work history (before marriage/children) or financial protection in case of divorce, because if you "pick the right provider" he will never leave or abandon you. I think it's crucial for feminists to dissect such a dangerous fantasy, and present the reality of where that might actually lead. And thank god ex-trad wives  (divorced,   left without any income, work history or means to survive) are getting on social media to explain the reality of thinking "a man is the only plan" a woman needs. It's also very political; Project 2025, served up in an attractive social media package.

My grandparents came through the Depression and World War II and they made sure their daughters could support themselves.  Even though their daughters came of age in that supposedly golden time when you could live well on one income and most women became SAHMs.

Now we're in an economic era when this choice seems out of reach for most people and yet we've got this push for girls to forego higher education and to marry young, pop out babies and be totally dependent on a husband.

This does her no favours, of course, but it's also a tremendous burden to place on a young man.  I will be interested to see how many of these marriages stay so 'traditional' when job losses, illness, and other of life's unexpected twists and turns come their way.

As soon as DOGE fired the people who were overseeing the safety of our nuclear weapons -Congress should have fired everyone involved - starting with Musk.
