He was talking to Hannity and Hannity was trying to turn the conversation to the economy and Trump said "I don't care" and went back to talking about Biden.  Trump does not give one fuck about the economy. Egg prices. Or anything that doesn't affect him.

They won't take the blame.  Before all is said and done they will most likely deny voting for him.  Trump?  Never heard of him.

The Antioch school shooter apparently had a manifesto -

"Candance Owens influenced me above all each time she spoke," Henderson wrote.

His writings showed that he had been thinking about violence for a few months. He wrote his final remarks on Nov. 18.

"I was so miserable. I wanted to kill myself. I just couldn't take anymore. I am a worthless subhuman, a living breathing disgrace. All my (in real life) friends outgrew me act like they didn't f—ing know me. Being me was so f—ing humiliating. That's why I spend all day dissociating."

Henderson's writings also showed a photo of The Covenant School shooter who died in 2023 after attacking the private Christian school. Three children and three staff people died that day in addition to the shooter.

This is what happens when you give someone like Candace Owens a platform. There was a reason Australia said we don't want you in our country.

KUER. org -Students in Utah are now prohibited from bringing any books on the banned list to school, even for personal reading.

Update, Jan. 22: A 15th book has been added to the statewide ban list. "Damsel" by Elana K. Arnold was added after being reported by Davis, Park City and Washington Co. school districts. Our original story continues below.

There are already certain things Utah schools prohibit students from bringing to campus — like certain electronics, vaping devices or rollerblades.

Now, according to updated guidance from the Utah State Board of Education, banned books have been added to that list. This change was not due to action by board members. Instead, it is staff members’ interpretation of the law.

There are currently 15 books banned statewide under a 2024 law. Individual school districts and charter schools have also banned additional books at the local level.

image.png.2359c135e266adba6a9bcc9f9feaa5f3.png

If a school or district determines a book is “pornographic or indecent,” as defined in state code, that title is labeled “sensitive material.” The new law breaks that down further into “objective sensitive material” or “subjective sensitive material.”

Schools are not allowed to have any instructional materials in their libraries or classrooms that meet the criteria of “sensitive material.” But since students are still legally allowed to get these books from the public library or bookstores, they were previously allowed to bring a banned book to school if they got it somewhere else.

While the 2024 law focuses on materials that schools own or use, one line in the state code explicitly states, “Sensitive materials are prohibited in the school setting.”

According to the state board’s updated FAQ, any books banned statewide are prohibited on any school property. Similarly, those banned by a local school district for being “sensitive material” are prohibited on any of that district’s school grounds.

“These titles should not be brought to school or used for classroom activities, assignments, or personal reading while on school property,” the FAQ page states.

Given the way our governor is planning to fire university professors who don’t spew MAGA drivel, I wouldn’t be at all shocked if we had a brain drain.

Hubby and I are stuck here until Stepson14 graduates, but we’re already making a list of possible new homes. My 5 nieces all live here, but the oldest one is a senior in high school and her main requirement in choosing a college is “another state.”

This is also why I'm not losing any sleep over the possibility of an alien invasion.  If  we really aren't alone Trump would have blabbed it years ago.  Unless, I guess, he's figured out a way to make  money off it.

Along these lines, my sister & brother-in-law made it a requirement for their $$$ for their three college-aged kids to be sent only to States where the politics align with theirs/ours.  My brother & sister-in-law will be doing the same when their soon-to-be college-aged daughter is off to college.

I have a feeling that the broker did not actually help you with the part I'm talking about.  SSA will only communicate with the actual person.  To do your initial enrollment and get a Medicare number, you have to do it yourself.

That is the preferred method.  Under certain circumstances a person may designate a representative in writing.  Usually that's a child who speaks English for someone with little to no English speaking skills or someone who hires an attorney a charity, or legal aid or similar to represent them.  See form SSA-1696.  Technically though it could be pretty much anyone the person wanted to appoint.

In my case he gave me this magical phone number. The representative actually picked the phone up promptly, with no hold time and I did the whole thing over the phone. No websites, no appointments. I did it from where I'm sitting right now. Maybe I just got lucky.

It was probably the phone number to the local office which is available online if one is willing to do a bit of searching.  A friend of mine did that on January 6 when the toll free number was slammed.

It was a neighboring town's number. But I wasn't sure if that was the case everywhere.

Yes, I'm actually an attorney, and I'm familiar with this form.  I've used it when I represent someone in a Social Security hearing.

Doesn't really help here as a matter of logistics.   My client's son is helping her set up her on-line log in and sitting with her while she waits to talk on the phone.  You can't predict when SSA decides to screw up with error messages.  That happens.   We are in the NY area.  Maybe much busier than other areas.

Don't get sick citizen.

For the first time in its more than 60-year history, the CDC's Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report (MMWR)opens in a new tab or window did not go out as scheduled because of a communications pause at federal health agencies issued by the Trump administration.

Past editors of MMWR and prior leaders of CDC lamented the lack of publication, and its potential impact on the distribution of vital public health information.

"This is a concerning precedent that public health messages won't be left to public health professionals and experts, and instead will be potentially controlled by politicians," Sonja Rasmussen, MD, a former editor of MMWR who worked at the CDC for 20 years, told MedPage Today.

I've used the form when helping relatives and passed a few around.  It really doesn't matter as you say if it's setting up an online account.  I found the letting them call me back option worked very well.  The call back was within 3 minutes of their estimate.

I worked there in the dark ages when we couldn't take claims by phone, didn't make appointments, and almost all business had to be conducted in person.  We'd hand the claimant the forms to sign in front of us.  This really is an improvement even if it doesn't feel like it sometimes.  All I have to provide is my bank account information.  In the past I would have had to have original or certified copies of everything.

If this is on the level I have two comments -

one: I admit I don't know how anyone can support Trump and the Republican party, but I really don't understand how military vets and anyone working in health care can be, not just supporters, but HUGE supporters.  Shaking my head here.  Wow.

and two: what is this guy expecting?  That if you voted for Trump you keep your job and everyone else loses out?  Now I am sure if Trump could do that he probably would but not because he cares that his supporters would lose their job but because he wants to stick it to everyone who didn't vote for him.

Trump, of course, is ramping this up to the nth degree but Conservative govts are notorious for making cuts to education and health care here in Canada and I would  guess this is probably true for the US as well.

You know, the NDP first destreamed Grade 9 in Ontario back in '93 (the year I started high school), so it's not just the right.  They put Grade 9 back on the streaming track (i.e. separating the four year university and the non-four year tracks) when they got rid of Grade 13/OAC.  I was lucky it didn't affect me because there's no choice BUT to take university track courses at my school.  And I don't think they altered the Grade 9 curriculum at my school that much since they didn't change ANY of the textbooks.  They DID the year after...my class was the last to read Julius Caesar - they swapped it for Twelfth Night the following year.  My son is at an IB (international baccalaureate) school so if he stays through Grade 12, he won't be affected either.  But then again, who knows what the curriculum would be like when he gets to high school (he'll be in Grade 9 in 2032)?

Note to non-Canadians:  The NDP or New Democratic Party (orange) is the far-ish left party.

Count your lucky stars he doesn't need spec. ed.  The school board my grandchildren are in are facing making major cuts to vitally needed programs.  Because, why not?  Thank you, Ford, the man who seems to make targeting Special Ed programs a priority.  But hey, at least we can buy beer at the corner store now.

I've heard Democrats praise Pence as an honorable man for what he did on January 6th.  Which was you know just doing his job.  But that doesn't make up for the very real harmful and cruel things he did. Like advocating for conversion "therapy" and allowing the HIV outbreak to get worse.

Yes it's a mixed bag with pence. But ....just doing his job, which is true, caused a literal political riot at the capitol.  And you can be sure in 4 years if the same situation happens, which is a large chance it will , there is no way on hell JD Vance is making the same choice.

It's just more and more baffling every day how people defend the dictator in chief. Is disgusting. Disheartening. Mind blowing.  It's making me depressed the more I think about it

Yeah true, but I suspect there are a lot of non-trump-supporters caught up in the same situation. If I had to choose, I’d prefer that nobody gets the employment rug pulled out from under them, even if it means t-supporters get what should have been a fair deal for everyone.

This is also yet another reason why Trump supporters need to realize the importance of protecting minority groups. Alongside the obvious fact that it's just, y'know, what a decent human being should do, there's also the fact that any party/leader/country that cannot and will not protect the most vulnerable members of society sure as fuck isn't going to be able to take care of the rest of the population who doesn't fit into those groups, either. If they don't care about marginalized communities, why the hell do you (general "you") think they will/should give any more of a shit about you?

Sebastian Stan got an Oscar nomination for  The Apprentice.

That reminds me . . . Tuesday, I spoke with my therapist. Not because of current events . . . I'm a bit of a wreck in sane times. Anyway, there's a movie theater near me. It's small but nice, and matinee pricing is great. My therapist told me that there was a cardboard cutout of Trump in the theater for people to take pictures with. No movie tie-in. It wasn't the Winter Solider in business drag . .  .just Trump. And now I'm wondering if I should ever go back to that theater.

I think sticking to principles is pretty easy if that which pisses you off isn't sewn into the fabric of society, like Amazon and McDonald's ("We Got Ex-Presidents Working The Drive-Thru!") There are two other theaters that I know about. Both have the food-to-seat service, so things are more expensive. Also, this doesn't really affect me because I'm incapable of going to see anything adult-skewed. One year, the only Oscar-winning movie I saw was Suicide Squad. Not the one from James Gunn. The one with Jared Leto.

I don't remember where I was going with this.
