S06.E05: Nandor's Army

Loving Laszlo and Nadja's matching green suits. And loved that they thought a $5 reward for Nandor was too much.

So Nandor's army...is a bunch of mannequins. He crazy crazy. Of course Colin would be the most into Nandor's "training," because it pisses off Laszlo and Nadja, and brown nosing to Nandor. I can't believe Guillermo and Nandor finally talked it out. Poor Gizmo, he really did trade one monster for another. And the army was real?! That was a twist.

God, loved Laslzo and Nadja trying to talk their way out of the cops.

I always love seeing The Baron, and how he says "Ham-shire" and "Wampires."

And Matt Berry of all people singing the theme song.

Nandor actually had an army. I would have lost money betting against that.

I'm hoping Dartmouth as a whole has a sense of humor.

Pretty good episode. I thin the peak was Nandor's indignation that everyone thought his army was just mannequins. Also Colin Robinson, but does he ever count? "The fuck?" indeed.

Minimum, there was the Atlantic City episode.

I liked how they had alternate credits for the episode: similar to how they did one for the Atlantic City one.  Didn't realize that was Matt Berry singing the theme song, which makes it even more awesome!

Enjoyed Nador and Guillermo hashing it out a bit.  Granted, Nandor is definitely underplaying some of the crazy shit he put poor Guillermo through, but I do buy that in his own twisted way, he does care about him and had an odd sort of loyalty towards him.  Because of that, I can buy Guillermo being touched by that.  Well played scene, all around.

Also loved the Lazlo/Nadia scenes.  Honestly, as crazy as they can get, they are truly one of the more loving and, yep, healthy relationships in TV land.

Fulled me with the swerve over Nandor actually having a real army and the mannequins were just replacements while they were away.

Colin naturally would be all over joining Nandor's army and the bootcamp-like stuff.

Always down for an appearance from The Baron/Doug Jones!

It's at least a 4.5 hour drive between Staten Island and NH, so Lazlo and Nadja were strangely confident that they could fit all that into one night, including the drive home, prior to the sun coming up.

The amount of time they had did cross my mind.

I love how they made New Hampshire and the ride up to it so dark and menacing.  I loved the opening credits!

I couldn't tell what was on Lazslo's and Nadja's plates, but I think they were sucking fingers?

I didn't really laugh too much at this episode, but I did enjoy Nadja's telekinetic yell that threw Lazslo into a car and her "oops" afterward.  Even Guillermo's cringe at Nadja's odd come-on to the cop.

I really enjoyed the look at the relationships between Nandor and Guillermo, and between Nadja and Lazslo.  It was nice to have a sincere moment every once in a while.

This was fun. Like others, here and on the show, I was surprised there was a real army. But then I thought, Hey it's New Hampshire, so that tracks. I wonder if they're really going to attack Dartmouth.

Love how the Baron pronounces "New Hampershire." Love the Baron period. Doug Jones is so good.

Nadja re the Baron: Don't tell him about the reward money.

A literal dumpster fire! I love that this was never underscored.

So many great lines.

Nandor: Mind the shirt pins. They're fucking everywhere.

Nandor to Guillermo as the music starts: WAIT! for the chorus.

Colin saying, "Like I mentioned in my email, I don't eat blood, so maybe just a crescent roll or…" cracked me up, as if he were a vegan finding no meatless dishes at a dinner party.

When Nadja was so (rightly) mad at Laszlo, his apology was great. "What I meant to say was something with the identical sentiment that wouldn't piss you off." My god, so many people basically give the same kind of non-apology, or at least this is what they're thinking.

Laszlo: No winky fingers.

One of my favorite parts of the episode.

Pretty obvious references to Apocalypse Now with Nandor as Col. Kurtz.  Am I the only one who remembers that movie?  I'm a little surprised no one brought it up.

Yes. "Finger food." I assume the vampires do not actually eat flesh so they were just sucking blood out of them.

Didn't the Baron get burned up again last season? I forget the details but have a vague recollection of it.

I did notice Lazlo sucking on the end of the fingers.

Colin was a great Martin Sheen character to Nandor's Kurtz.

and Matt singing the theme as a homage to The Doors.   So clever

I expected Nandor to turn himself into a bat to escape the chains. We haven't seen any bat action in a while, and I miss it.

This is not the first time Nandor has spiraled when he had his feelings hurt, and was looking for a community to belong to. I'm especially thinking of when he joined the cult and was trying not to drink blood anymore, was exercising or doing Yoga, or something like that.

I love this show. Every scene is full of hilarious moments, but it's also strangely touching in a serious way.

Also, they noticed nandor was missing pretty quickly, unlike when the other housemate was on a long sleep and they forgot he ever existed. Maybe if nandor realized that, he'd feel like the household was his community and he would stop looking for it elsewhere.

Slumber

I was in the store the other day looking at different teas, and there was a box called "Slumber Tea." I couldn't help but read it in Nandor's voice.

I couldn't stop laughing at the Doors-esque version of the theme music.

I am pretty sure that was Jackie Daytona singing. :)

Not only lines from Apocalypse now, but also TS Eliot  The Hollow Men.  Who knew we'd get an overview of English Lit in a 30 min comedy

I loved all the war movies cliches, especially the use of Fortunate Son and Colin Robinson's soldier character development, it was really funny.

But Nandor and Guillermo finally talking it out and Nandor pointing out how he was always loyal even all the times Guillermo screwed up was just really good.

In one of the last couple of episodes we got the explanation that he was healing his skin by milking the creatures he adopted from Guillermo's experiments. He's looking refreshed and the visual of the "milking" machine was classic.
