Anyone go see this and was it as bad as the reviews say? I was going to go the Tuesday before Thanksgiving since I'm off and it's half price ticket day for AMC Stubs but, I wonder if it's even worth it?

I haven't seen it, but fwiw, under an article saying that it did well in the box office this weekend, I scrolled through many of the 90 comments and every one of them used words/phrases like: "fun", "great", "really good", "a little cheesy, but good fun", "entertaining", "enjoyed it", etc.....

I saw it, mainly because I haven't seen Lucy Liu in a movie in a long time. She had a smallish part as the head of MORA, some kind of company in charge of protecting mythological characters like Santa. She investigates Santa's kidnapping and orders The Rock's character to work with Chris Evans to find Santa.

The movie's fine if you don't take it seriously. I wouldn't rank it as a Christmas classic like Miracle on 34th street or anything. It's like a kids's movie but there is some swearing like "shitbag" which surprised me. But mostly it was amusing and fun, with some magic, a witch, and monsters.

I'm not an xmas movie guy for the most part; I like Bad Santa and Elf. But the concept looked cool, and certainly, the cast is top notch. And it came on streaming fast. So why not? I haven't seen Chris Evans since The Gray Man. And Bonnie Hunt! The Waitress! Lucy Liu! Excuse me, but Lucy Liu is not in her late 50s because she was only recently in Kill Bill, Charlie's Angels, and Ally McBeal.

Waaaaay back in the day, I thought I was smart because we had multiple malls and the Santas looked different. Well, I was told, of course they aren't real Santa. How could Santa be in every mall at once? He sends out *agents* to report back to him. So I liked the technical approach to Santa.

I liked all the high tech approach, and that everything wasn't totally explained. The context made sense by just showing. I'm always saying movies and tv are overwritten. I also liked Cal's cynicism. It was real.

Good for JK Simmons if he's that jacked at 69 y/o.

No Rudolph though!

This was a bit scattered with Cal coming back to the fold and the dad reclaiming being a dad, but fun. Needed more Waitress.

Watched this a few nights ago and enjoyed it.  It probably won't be Elf levels of Christmas Classic. I would likely file it with Fred Claus on Christmas movies worth revisiting, but not every year.

Still enjoyed the Lethal Weapon meets The Santa Clause approach (with a splash of Ant Man).  Chris Evans was easily the best part of the movie, he seemed to have a blast with this role. Second place goes to Kristofer Hivju, who ran away with it as Krampus.

I just wish it didn't feel like Dwayne Johnson was in every other film I'm so fatigued of the guy.  I'm glad Lucy Liu got some badass fighting moments wish we'd gotten more of her.

This was enjoyable from start to finish. They seemed to incorporate every bit of “Santa Lore” out there in a very logical way, and by the end of the movie, they pretty much answered every question the nay-sayers pose for the belief in the big guy. Simmons nailed the part and I really enjoy watching DJ’s movies because of the dry wit and sarcasm written into his lines. I can see this becoming a classic must watch, for the humor mostly. It’s not going to give you warm fuzzies like the first viewing of The Santa Clause, but it’s creative and humorous.

I watched it on Prime with subtitles, because I couldn't figure out what word Santa yelled out to the reindeer. It's apparently Kavalame, a made up word.

This website theorizes that it's something to do with a town Kavala in Greece. I guess it's near Myra where St. Nick is from? Weird for them not to explain it in the movie.

I just figured that the super tech/genetic reindeer had been well-trained, and that was their “Dash Away” equivalent. Sadly, I expected them NOT to respond to the witch, and was disappointed when they raced off.

I threw it in Google Translate it detected it as Hindi meaning "Only In"

Then I changed it to Greek as mentioned, kavalame = "We Rode" but Kaval Ame = "Let's Ride" (which was probably what they were going for)

So, I suspect it's probably meant to be an old Greek word and not something entirely made up
