Well, that was fun!  Although, dude, you *just* said not to try to hide under the overpass.  So, maybe don't try to hide under the overpass!  And I hope both Kate and Javi had good therapists.  I'm probably taking that part too seriously, though, for a popcorn flick.

I didn't think it was quite as good as the first one, possibly because it was too similar.  OTOH, how much different can a sequel about storm chasing be?  I did enjoy it, and think it's a worthy sequel.

Very much enjoyed it. Great film. I kept hearing and reading conflicting reports on whether this was a sequel, a remake, or a standalone film, but definitely feel this was more of a remake than anything else. Lots of fun callbacks to the original.

I thought Tyler's team came in WAY too hot when they were first introduced, but nice bait and switch with them ending up being the more altruistic group as opposed to Javi's 'in it for the money' team. I'm glad Javi wised up in the end.

The night tornado at the rodeo was good, but the night twister at the drive-in from the first movie was done better IMO and still gives me chills whenever I watch it.

Yeah but what was their other option? Stay in the car and definitely get blown away or at least try for some shelter even if not a great choice? I'd have opted for the overpass, too, lol.  I actually did not know that hiding under an overpass is apparently not a good option for trying to escape a tornado!

It definitely isn't, no. A lot of people came to believe hiding under an overpass was a good idea after footage from a tornado that hit Kansas in the early '90s made the news - some people hid under a bridge there and the tornado passed them without incident, thankfully.

But it's considered a bad idea because the winds from the storm create a wind tunnel under that overpass, and it's a lot easier for people to get sucked out and into the tornado if it gets close enough. That's what happened with some people who tried to hide under an overpass when the 1999 Moore tornado happened - survivors reported seeing people get sucked out and up into the tornado, and there were quite a few of those people whose bodies were never found.

If you're out in an open area, your actual best bet is to lay flat in a ditch, face down, and cover the back of your head/neck. Still not ideal, no, but it's the outside equivalent of heading to the lowest level of shelter you can find. Or, if you are stuck in your car, get down on the floor if possible and cover your head neck. Anything that involves keeping yourself as low to the ground as possible and shielding your head and neck is the best way to go, basically. Again, still not an ideal option if you're in an open area with no real sturdy buildings or homes nearby to hide in, but that's the recommended advice from weather experts and storm chasers.

This has been your weather nerd ramble :p.

Anywho, yeah, back to the movie itself - I'm kind of curious to check this out. I reemmber seeing Twister in the theater when it came out and have lost count of how many times I've seen the movie over the years, so I'm interested to see what they could do with this sequel/remake/whatever it is.

I saw this earlier this week and it was fun. I can't figure out if it's supposed to be a standalone movie or a sequel. They used things from the first movie (such as the Dorothy technology in the beginning) but other than that, it didn't seem to be connected. I enjoyed it, regardless.

I've been through two tornadoes, though nothing as destructive as was shown in this movie. The only thing that made me a little jumpy was the sound of the tornado sirens.

I enjoyed Glen Powell's character, especially when it was revealed that his tornado wrangler persona was actually the good guy compared to Javi's greedy insurance scammer sponsor. I felt like Kate was fairly one note, she made me miss Helen Hunt's feisty character in the original movie. But it was fun, the storm sequences were really well done, and I laughed a few times. Can't ask for much more from a summer popcorn film.

I would’ve loved for Helen Hunt to have popped up as Kate’s mom.

They should have done that. Hell, having her be the daughter of Helen Hunt and Bill Paxton would have been great.

Speaking of, the asshole customer at the hotel who gets himself and his girlfriend killed is actually Bill Paxton's son, James Paxton. He doesn't look all that much like his dad except the coloring and the eyes- he's very British looking like his mother.

Honestly, I would have loved it if he had been playing David Corenswet's character. David is great, but I don't think he got all that much to do here anyway except be an asshole.

I swear I thought this was reported when they were first talking about making this movie.

Huh.  I hated this.  I have great nostalgia for the first, which I saw with my then-boyfriend (now husband, we got hitched about two months later) in the theater when it first came out, and have probably seen it 500 times since.

It felt to me like in this movie, everyone was just reading lines.  I thought everything about Kate was preposterous.  Glen Powell is normally charming, but this felt to me like he was going through the motions.  All the callbacks grated.  That Kate Mary-Sue’d the tornado to go away was ludicrous.

Only thing I liked was Anthony Ramos.

I saw this with a few friends yesterday and we had the theater to ourselves, this being near the end of the run.  It was ... fine.  It was a popcorn movie to laugh at with a group.

The idea of tornado chasing stunt influencers is too believable.  The physics and weather science, less so.

I have a nostalgic love of the original but except for a few moments this felt a bit flat.  It was missing some of Helen Hunt's charm.

Also, it look about 45 minutes to get a shot of red dirt.

I was expecting kind of a remake, but it was like they took about half the plot points of the original movie, threw the other half away, replaced it with new stuff, and threw it all in a hat and drew them out.

It was kind of funny that "Twisters" had a "twist" in it, with the supposed villain group ending up as the heroes.

This was enjoyable, but I prefer the original version and actors.  I was a little surprised the tornado special effects didn't really appear to be any better than in the old movie, although there were some nice moments.

For some reason, I kept thinking "Where's the Dusty?".
