I tried to find where to spend a few bucks to name the calf something funny and failed. If there's a baby being tortured with this I could probably toss up some money to name it Dave, Ann or whatever seems most neutral and least awful.

no need. When Amanda gets home she will name the baby whatever she wants.

@Whack-a-mole, I have no idea what your last post means.

There's luggage that's sentient and best described as "half suitcase, half homicidal maniac". Blame Terry Pratchett.

Well, having read what coverage there has been of the wedding and its aftermath, I nearly vomited up in my mouth. I don't know if there's anything left to say but these people are disgusting and it's really not much fun.

I only read AllUtopia, but from the photos, I thought the wedding was pretty nice.    Jess was lovely in her dress, the ceremony was nice and the little cafe' tables with the tablecloths, votive candles and bouquets were sweet.

There was some of your basic idiotic stuff later--Mike and Dede had to sneak in to bang in the honeymoon suite during the reception, a few people got drunk and Cal/Taylor/Josh played King of the Mountain with the rental chairs and messed them up.  But there was also music and singing and dancing.  It sounds like Rob and Jess mainly strolled around the compound most of the night, holding hands and enjoying their time with each other.

This is Utopia!  We know what they're capable of.  Maintaining the bad behavior at frat boy level as opposed to outright torture or mayhem is practically white gloves and champs at the Waldorf-Astoria.

This morning, Cal and Nikki were having a long conversation which I didn't hear most of, but I did tune in in time to hear Cal tell Nikki that she's "such a woman, talking all morning." Then a few minutes later she started in on something about soul mates (not about Cal! Talking about how she thinks there are different types, soul mates who are friends, etc.), and Cal just laughed. She stopped and asked why he was laughing and he said "no, go ahead." She said she wasn't going to talk if he was going to laugh about it.

He said, "No, go ahead. I just don't feel like talking, but I'll listen."

Charming!

The more I read here about Cal the more he sounds like he's Aaron's "soul mate" with his disrespectful manner when speaking with or about females.  Another D-bag rounded up and removed from the general public.

For those of you still watching the feeds, has there been any emergency vehicles called to Utopia to deal with the wedding aftermath of Dirty Chef's dirty handiwork in the kitchen?

No, although Bella is currently receiving some sort of medical attention. She left early this morning. I understand she said something about thinking the food made her sick, though I didn't witness that myself.

Bella also told guests at the Utopia Experience yesterday that she'd lost 15 pounds "in the last week alone."

So, you know, it's Bella. Who knows what is really going on.

My first thought when I saw that pic was, "Looks like it's for a bonfire, but nobody would be stupid enough to build a bonfire next to shrubbery and a wooden fence in a drought area."  Then I remembered what show this is.

I think that's the pyre upon which he plans to burn women he suspects of witchcraft.

Now which of the Topes would be able to quote Monty Python?

She turned me into a newt!

I got better.

I'll go with Josh because he does love to whip out that English accent.

So apparently Mike broke up with Dedeker last night. He claims he just can't handle that she was talking with/flirting with Jake the beekeeper when he came out to the Utopia Experience, yet he had no problem making out with a perfect stranger at one of the Utopia Experiences. This just seems like a cop out for Mike to get out of his relationship with Dedeker. I mean she hasn't hidden that she's polyamorous. She didn't do anything more with Jake the Beekeeper than Mike did with that girl Melissa. He's made lots of comments about not enjoying being with Dedeker such as the "maintenance sex" comment and their differences in wearing condoms. He simply wanted out and needed an excuse and this was the first excuse that presented itself.

This apparently the "red tent" Nikki had spoken about building earlier. Not to be too graphic but it's supposedly for the women to go bleed into the ground during their time of the month...

Which baffles me no end!  If she's has/had multiple partners I would think he would want to use a condom.  With his attitude about them plus the short time they've known each other (and what she has seen of him during that time - yeesh!), if she is going to go down that road with him a condom is a must!  Good for her on practicing safe sex.

And seriously?  At his age "maintenance sex" is a problem?  I'd seriously be concerned about a guy who felt it was a chore.

15 pounds in one week!   I propose that Utopia be the next camp for the "Biggest Loser"  show.

Serously -  do they have a scale?  bella has obviously lost weight, but not in one week.

the "red tent"  thing -   I don't know, it seems ridiculous to me.  Here they are, creating a new society, and they already have the men doing much of the work.  now they are going to have this:

http://bellaspark.com/articles/entry/red-tent-movement-celebrates-being-female/

the Red Tent — tapped a well-spring of longing among modern women. To have a place away from the chores and responsibilities of daily life would be a welcome relief for most women, especially while menstruating, a time when many feel more sensitive, tired, and in need of solitude.

I don't know.  I guess it's my age, but I am of the generation where men would say women can't hold positions of authority in business or government, because they go through times each month when they are sensitive and tired, and can't handle responsibilities.   I never used "time of the month"  as an excuse to avoid work, school, chores.

I'm not even crazy about the "goddess circle'  thing.  Men have had an "old boy network"  to exclude women, and this was seen as a sexist thing that left women out of exclusive clubs and decision-making.  Have we just turned it on its head?    I get that women want friendships with each other, but can they have that without making it a "No boys allowed" club?

is this show really so boring that the only thing to go on (and on and on and on and on) about was the wedding cake and unsanitary practices used in making it? I had to scan past so many posts because I found the discussion so unsavory (pun intended). Now that the wedding is over, hoping we can move on.

ITA.  Sounds like absolutely ridiculous nonsense and setting the women's movement back 100 years. This show is misogynistic enough without perpetuating more negative stereotypes. Just slap on a feminine hygiene product and keep it moving, ladies.

I just want to add to this.  Mike and Taylor did a lot of whining to each other this morning.  Mike said Rob pointed out the hypocrisy of Mike kissing visitors but being upset about Dedeker giving Jake attention.  Sounds like Mike didn't appreciate it.  Taylor says it's unfair that Jake can come and go as he pleases.  Taylor says he will back up Mike if Mike wants to ban Jake visiting.  Mike gleefully told Taylor that he made Jake pay $100 for admission yesterday.

Taylor revealed that he dreamed he had sex with three porn stars, and thinks this is possibly his future.  He wants to be invited to the Playboy mansion.  Taylor also says that Bri would have sex with any one of them.  Mike says the only reason he hasn't, is because of Chris.

I'm confused about Mike.  He's told Dedeker that he's been having a problem getting an erection, and he hates using condoms.  He's told some other guys, that Dedeker is not worth using a condom - apparently she's not sponge-worthy.  He acts and talks like he's only engaging sexually with her because he's bored and she's convenient.  Yet, he appears to be jealous of Jake.

I don't know a lot about polyamory, but I've watched a Showtime series on it.  They are very careful about using condoms.  There's one exception, and they seem to call it "fluid bonding".  One of the women is having sex with only her husband and her boyfriend.  Her husband has sex with multiple men and women.  The wife's boyfriend is monogamous with her.  This resulted in the wife using a condom with her husband, but not her boyfriend.  Thus, they are "fluid bonding".

Poor Aaron - laboring away in the heat of the midday. Is it 85* today with 0% humidity?

So a black man tilling in the garden is a racial faux pas, even though Chris, Rob, Taylor and Mike have done it, but a black man cooking and serving them is hunky dory?

If only white guys can work in the garden/tilling, isn't that discrimination?

Sounds like I'm glad I had other things that kept me from watching the feeds most of today. I would have wanted to hit something during the Aaron-Mike fest.

All I saw today was the ever-painful Mike and Dedeker accounting session. It always sounds something like: "Okay, so wait, this comes from this. No, not that. That's actually this, I think. Hang on, how much was that? Oh, put that with this."

I also heard a little bit of Amanda's anger management session with Josh. It sounded mostly like trying to get Josh to see how hard things are for Aaron. I can understand that empathizing and that sort of thing would be part of learning to control your temper, but she didn't seem to be validating Josh's perspective much, at least while I was listening.

Actually, I was more disgusted by completely different things.

Most of all, Pastor Jon's obsession with baptising everybody, and preaching creepy end-of-the-world conspiracies. He ominously talked about something bad happening on the outside that could bring about the end-times. Are they really not allowed to hear anything about world events or news in Utopia? That completely opens them up to manipulation by people like Jon, who seemingly can't tell them specifics, but can tell them vague ominous things to let their paranoia run wild.

Also, Rob's father's wedding speech was apparently a lecture in anger management to Rob. Somehow, I don't think that a wedding is really the appropriate occasion  for such personal grievances.

Yes, so far my complaints are about people who aren't actually in Utopia right now, but I think this is very indicative of the people who are in Utopia, if these are the kind of people who have influenced them in their lives. I'm mightily sick of all the "woo-woo" BS, whether it be Christianity, Goddess circles, Tantric sex, soul spirits, conspiracy theories, whatever. The whole damn group seems completely gullible and vulnerable to psychological manipulation.

As for inside the group, Dedeker and Mike trying to "christen" the honeymoon sweet seemed distasteful, but not too bad as far as Utopia goes. Josh got drunk and propositioned Bella for sex. That was pretty gross, but made much worse by what he did on the first night with Hex. Didn't he learn his lesson then? I'm actually proud of Bella for rebuffing him, both in the wedding sex proposition and the earlier "make out in the bushes" request. This goes along with the ongoing misogyny thread - I think Josh does want to have sex with Bella, but because Bella isn't one of the cool people, he tries to act like it's all a joke - because all the other guys are so fucked up about sex and women that it's not OK unless it's with a submissive 20-something.

I dunno, I just had a visceral reaction from the wedding and its aftermath. There are probably a bunch of other things that bothered me at the time I was reading that I can't remember now, and don't care to go back and look for.

ETA:

And of course, while I think the Topes are idiots, it bothers me even more the way Kroll and his cronies set them all up for this. I think that what might be behind my particular distaste with the wedding is seeing all the enablers appear. That this is a fucked-up thing going down, and everybody just goes along with it. For what... a dumb TV show?

We probably won't hear any serious voices of dissent until the show is cancelled, packed up, and done. We may not hear anything at all. But I hope that some of the people involved do say something publicly afterwards about this debacle.

Hi Pog!  Is the "fucked up thing" the wedding or the whole of Utopia itself?

Re Pastor Jon and his baptism stuff, well, you know, that's his deal.  I guess it meant a lot to Dave since he's followed Jon to his hometown, has a place to live and is contemplating getting a job.  Cough, cough.  Kristin went in for it and I had a laugh that Bri did not, even though Jon called to her that he was already wet.

Somewhere I read that one of the other Topes was baptized by Jon, too, in private.  Wow!!!  Someone might have done something personal and meaningful without whoring it out for the cameras.

Until I heard he mentioned "end times," I had forgotten that Jon was from the fundamentalist end of the spectrum, but the Topes knew him well enough to have heard some of that before.  They have enough interaction with outsiders so I don't think they're worried the Four Horsemen have appeared and no one's told them.

***********************

Cal's revealing himself to be one of the worst, and with this group, that's really saying something.  It makes me (even more) mad at Kroll & Co. that Kristin and Cal are so devious, since they were latecomers and the mix could have been improved instead of debased further.  It makes me give Ernesto the side eye--is he going to turn out to be one of those half-man half-goat demons or something?

************************

In spite of everything, I think they ARE starting to form a society with some new rules.  I don't know, I'm still thinking about it--but the red tent talk and the whole thing about four guys tilling except the black one is excused on the basis of racism. . . .it seems like their new society is developing into one in which men and women, black and white, are MORE separate.  What's up with that?  Is it just because these people are psychos and wingnuts?  Would normal people be converging on a point in the opposite direction?  (And sidenote:  is there some reason a woman can't pick up a damn hammer in that place?)

Another pause for regret at what this show could have been. . . .

Yes, Josh probably wouldn't have too much trouble having sex with Bella, but he has to know that that would be a very bad idea.  Bella is mentally unstable.  She'd probably be thrilled with Josh until she realized that he wasn't going to spend the rest of his life dealing with her.  Then the sh*t would hit the fan.  Josh needs to stay away from her, and drinking makes him make bad decisions.

I'm surprised that no one mentioned Cal trying to get Jess to give him her wedding dress.  He wanted to give it to his girlfriend because she has big boobs, too. What a charming guy.

Here's the tweet:  Don't worry, #Utopia fans... your patience will be rewarded... get ready to crap your pants.

Apparently he and Jon Kroll are friends IRL and they've been pretty vocal on Twitter about trying to get him on the compound. I hope it's not ED.  Jon Kroll has also tweeted that he wouldn't have ED visit unless he was teamed up with Russel Hantz.  Survivor fans would know just how awful Russel is, he's one of the many reasons I stopped watching Survivor.

It's too bad that Jon has been heavily influenced by being one of the producers of BB for the first five seasons.  He constantly lies about what's happening between Production and the Utopians, claiming no interference and all that.  The TV show is heavily edited to show some people in a bad light and others as almost saints, regardless of how they're seen on the live streams.  He freely states that an American audience doesn't want to see anything but showmances, fights, and carefully plotted out storylines.  He seems incapable of telling the truth or owning up to his mistakes.

The American version of Utopia would have been better served by being produced by PBS.  Sadly, JK couldn't hack working on PBS, and he has a point about a large number of network viewers liking shallow drama and titillating TV.

I no longer think that Utopia will be able to run for the whole year, but I still log onto the live streams sometimes.  I monitor Jokers Updates and Discussions quite a bit, with occasional checkups on You Tube and a couple of other sites, but it's no longer a 'passion' for me.  It's more of a habit or a thing I do when I'm bored.  (I actually spend more time now comparing Kroll's Utopia to what I'd do if I were able to wipe this show off the planet and run the thing MY way.  Let's just say my version would be vastly different.)

Yet, I'll still check in to see what the big surprise is and hope it's something I'll like.

It does, doesn't it?  Honestly, I could even tolerate Russell Hantz if I had to, but Evel Dick is a nasty human being.  I can't imagine a reason to have him in Utopia except as an attempt to make the others look good in comparison.  This show is already a casting disaster - why bring a new level of hateful into the mix?

he has a point about a large number of network viewers liking shallow drama and titillating TV.

It is unfortunately true, but they didn't seem to be targeting that group when they promoted the show (even though they obviously did when they cast it).  I don't think the people who tuned in expecting to see an effort to build a society expected that society to be an assortment of thieves, stereotypes and mentally unbalanced people.  So I guess it's a marketing disaster as well as a casting one.

He was also asked yesterday if he would prefer his consequence to be yoga or tilling and he selected tilling.

Wait, I think I missed something.  Aaron's punishment for the incident with Josh was that he has to choose either to till the garden or do yoga?   What's the punishment for violating probation - your choice of eating the deathcake or taking an archery lesson?  And of course Mike would be the one to think that's too much punishment.  He must want to be DA in Bizarro world.

^^^This.  I still think this forum is the best - better than the show, feeds, etc.  (This discussion alone has almost as many views as their facebook page has likes.)

The feeds have gotten sort of boring.  Nothing happening when I tune in.

Ok, the casting was horrendous but if they are not going to recast (Aaron, Bri, Rob, Dede, Mike, Cal, etc can leave anytime), maybe they should try to work with what they have.

Just small retooling would be a vast improvement:  No muting when talking about production (or any time).  No staging of situations.  And with all the people working behind the scenes, why can't they adjust the individual mic volume on the Topes?  Ten minutes of two cameras that are on different angles of an empty sleeping bag?  These cameras are also for the people who are paying for the feeds.  Fifteen Topes and that is what they show?

I don't watch BB, so I don't know anything about ED.  I do know about Hantz from Survivor...been there, done that.  JK is trying to generate excitement and anticipation over what will happen next?  LIke the last time with the wedding and Pastor Jon? IDK, the only thing I can see is maybe Red coming back?  He was popular with some.  I have low expectations whatever it is.

I wonder if the Tropes were told by production - nobody's watching!  ratings are down, we need to amp it up - fight! screw! overthrow leaders!   anything to improve ratings - if people aren't watching, you all go home - no more money!

What was the big thing we were promised at the wedding?  turned out to be a lot of nothing, right?   I think they tried to get Red to come back, and he refused.

A business class by Kristen?   Who in their right mind would pay for that?   What exactly is her expertise that makes her more qualified than someone teaching a class at a legit community college or other organization?

The "surprise" is still pending. Supposedly happening in the late afternoon/evening today. Kroll says the Dopes have no idea about it, although I understand Taylor and Rob had a conversation this morning about something they were expecting to go down today, and Rob said he was planning to sleep through it. May be related, may be something else entirely, who knows.

Got a good look at their pond today:

Can't believe Bella jumped in that the other day. Ugh.

Kristen is going on about how she was influenced by Pastor Jon saying there were bad things going on in the world right now and had a dream that "something bad was happening in Turkey," so now she really wants to know if that's true.

Bella talked for a while to Amanda (who has the patience of a saint) about her health and food issues. She is planning to use some of her painting money to buy organic food. She is currently detoxing and has not eaten for 2 days but she feels great. (I don't know how it's possible that she thinks she hasn't eaten for 2 days since I'm pretty sure she was on camera eating within that time frame.) She talked about how when your liver is too full of toxins, it overflows and the toxins go into your muscles and your brain. She also said that she's not going to eat any more of these "toxicating" foods that the others are eating. She's not going to get confrontational with Aaron about his food, because it's just that he doesn't know better; he's not educated about the toxifying effects. She's not going to come from a place of attack, but one of education.

That should go well.
