Maybe it was the hair but she was giving me a Liz Taylor vibe.

I see it.

Finishing the last episode, and it's another heartbreaking one. These women went through hell.

It’s even worse in your 50s. You’re ‘menopausal’ which is the kiss of death. Invisible, no longer sexy or desirable, the butt of ageist jokes. That’s been my experience anyway.

Fortunately, that hasn’t been mine. There is hope! 🙂

I’m very suspicious about Hef and what happened with Pam Anderson. Makes no sense she never made PMOTY unless she turned down the “meeting” with him.

According to the Tommy & Pam Hulu series, she DID turn down a "meeting" with Hef.

I’m reading the Dale Bozzio autobiography.  She was a bunny at the Boston club and then Hef invited her to California supposedly to greet guests at his Valentine’s Day party.  But she says when she got to the mansion he stood at the top of the stairs, wouldn’t come down or speak to her, and was just motioning with his finger for her to come upstairs.  She got annoyed and left.  A lot of the book seems exaggerated (she claims she dated several “movie stars” but only names Henry Winkler, who was more of a tv star) so take it with a grain of salt.

They showed that seen in the TV series. There was also another scene where someone tells Pam that Hef wants a meeting with her, but she made an excuse and just left.

'm also curious how bad the blackmail was. The closest I can think of to Hef doing anything close to revenge porn is publishing the nude pictures of Marilyn Monroe without her consent.

The rumour (which seems to be confirmed in this show) is that cameras and microphones were hidden absolutely everywhere around the mansion. Every imaginable sexual encounter was filmed and archived. The blackmail material wasn't just on the bunnies but all of the famous folk who indulged during their visits there. Hef had dirt on everyone - movie stars, musicians, politicians, and he employed many LAPD for security. Probably why no dirt ever stuck to him while he was alive.

Yeah I saw that in the documentary too. I should have worded my post better. (I post a lot, and post quickly.) I was curious more how bad of a threat, not necessarily how bad the pictures/videos. Holly expressed serious concern over Hef putting out something embarrassing as revenge. As creepy and gross of a guy as he was, to my knowledge he never pulled revenge porn stunts on any of his endless girlfriends throughout the years. That includes the several who spoke out against him and wrote books too.

Do you know what the details were? I've read some of the posts about Pam & Tommy but haven't watched it yet. I wouldn't put it past Hef to come on to a young, new to Hollywood Pamela. I'm just not sure if I think the whole sleeping with Hef to get PMOY was something that happened throughout all the years the title was given. There are some women who got it as a GND fan I know for a fact either married or dated Hef. But there are others I am not certain ever messed with him but were exceptionally beautiful or had more potential for stardom for whatever reason.

When Pamela became Playmate, Hef was newly married to Kimberley. I guess it's possible he could have bringing women in and out of his bedroom, but I do think that would have been more difficult to pull off at the time.

That Pig Night thing was weird.  They had all these women hanging around the mansion  available to them yet they went and picked up streetwalkers (many of whom probably used harder drugs and/or had STDs) from Sunset and the doc would just eyeball them?  And they would feed them a fancy dinner?  It’s like Pretty Woman 15 years earlier.

No, that scene was very vague. It appeared to me she might have given it a fleeting thought (the meeting, not the sex), but then realized what the "meeting" might have entailed, which then led to her making a quick exit.

Yes I saw Star 80. There was a lot of press about it when it came out. Mariel Hemingway got breast implants for the movie and that was a big story back then. Eric Roberts played the psycho husband role and he was excellent. Here’s a photo from the film.

I was thinking the same thing. It also got a lot of press because implants weren’t nearly as common then. It was considered kind of shocking IIRC.

I’ve thought about getting implants for years. With super small implants, I’d almost think, what’s the point. But I do find her look more attractive than the dreaded bolt-on look. I also don’t think surgeons were as skilled back then, to take you from rags to riches. These days they even do fat transfers to breasts.

I’ve known many women who’ve had implants with zero complications or health issues, but quite a few Playmates have said their implants made them sick. Crystal Hefner is another woman who took hers out.

I’ve always liked my breasts and have been afraid to get implants, but as I’ve aged my breasts have dropped. I’d like to get them lifted but I’ve heard most surgeons who do that also want to put in implants. I don’t want to do that so I’ve not done anything.

I’ve heard that some celebs have had smaller implants that are more natural looking, like Jennifer Aniston, but I don’t know if that’s true.

I wonder how many of the Playmates in the 70s had implants compared to the later ones in the 90s and 2000s? On GND I believe they all had them and it was a regular thing.

I’m not sure where else there is to go with this series. They’ve covered pretty much everything haven’t they? The next episode looks to be more specific about the actual photo shoots so maybe that will be interesting.

I wish they’d talk about all the airbrushing/Photoshopping they do to get that perfect, almost other-worldly fantasy look for the centerfolds.

I wonder what Hef’s ex-wife, Kimberly, thinks of this series.

"The Big Playboy Lie" . A roundtable of Playmates recount how decades of women modelled for the magazine because they believed that becoming a Playmate would lead to a lucrative career in a safe environment; instead, many faced a hostile environment.

"Predators' Ball". Even in the earliest parties at the mansion, celebrities like Roman Polanski and Bill Cosby are a big part of the allure of the Playboy brand, but Hugh Hefner keeps some Hollywood A-listers happy at the expense of the women.

I'm fairly young and haven't had kids. I wish I were busty to feel more feminine and proportionate. The good thing is there's less pressure to be stick skinny these days, but everyone's boobs seem to be huge. Still a bit afraid of ruining perky, symmetrical B-C cups on a skinny frame. Breast implant illness is rare, but if you end up with it, you will never get your natural breasts back. There may be surgeons out there with more advanced techniques, but lifts seem to leave scarring below the areola.

The women in the 70s were probably all natural. I always envied their figures so much more than a lot of the 90s and 2000s Playmates with the obvious implants. You ladies with natural curves are so lucky! Appreciate it even as you get older. Natural breasts with a hang look much better than bolt-ons.

I get that they're selling a fctansy, but it's true even the most genetically blessed women sometimes deal with breakouts, cellulite, ingrown hair, etc. Playmates are flawless head to toe at all times. I love when Jenny McCarthy said enjoy the pictures guys, but I'm airbrushed. IRC, she said they took out her stretch marks.

Here's what Kimberly said.

https://www.eonline.com/news/1318421/500-former-playboy-employees-defend-hugh-hefner-amid-misconduct-allegations

Kimberly, Hefner's second ex-wife, said in a personal statement, "All people should be encouraged to share their individual experience in this world, but no one should be emboldened to re-write the truth at the expense of another person's character. What the allegers who speak out now seem to ignore is that there were many of us throughout the years who were there with them as well. I'm saddened mostly that these accounts take light away from true victims of sexual abuse, and hope that in time those selling lies to defame Hef find peace within their own lives."

Small breasted and I love it. Large ones, either natural or surgically enhanced make the person look overweight even if they aren't IRL.  Running and jogging is certainly easier with smaller ones. There seem to be a lot of women who have down-sized - Kendra to name one.

As a very naturally busty woman, I would now give anything to be a B cup. That’s perfectly beautiful as just as “feminine” as any other size.

I've always had big boobs and they do make you look fatter unless you are fit enough to wear super form fitting tops like Holly always did.  (I could never do that when I was thin enough because I had an issue with sweaty armpits and was afraid of pit stains!) I had a friend in college I used to share pants with and wondered why she always looked so much thinner than me until the day she put socks in her bra and said, "Look how fat I look!"  I replied, "Aha!" 😄

If you want a look at how fake boobs have changed women's bodies take a look at "Revenge of the Nerds" - all of the hot sorority girls had natural, irregular boobs that now look weird because we're so used to looking at perfect implants.

I don't think whoever wrote understands the concept of a "roundtable discussion". I guess I wasn't paying much attention to the porno committee at the time, but I do remember it being a hot topic at the time. I feel a bit conflicted about the topic, but taking advantage of those women like that was wrong.

This episode. Damn.

I honestly felt so bad for Sondra when she was crying at the end about how she hoped one day she'd find someone who loves her just for who she is and then also her internalized ageism about how she's too old to be attractive now.

I don’t think it’s her age as much as her seeming mentally unwell. The slurring of her words, due to dentures or whatever the reason is a concern. It really seems as if she is tortured. I hope she was able to be a good mother to her child after all she endured.  Hope she is getting therapy.  One telltale sign of depression is how she is dressed. Old ratty clothes covered in animal hair is not a good look when you are going to be on film. Boy she was really taken advantage of. Her speaking of her time there was heartbreaking. I really wish this series was done years ago when that pig was still alive. These women could have all come out together against  him and ruined his remaining years. He should have been taken down while he was alive.

The interesting thing to me in that article was that PJ was annoyed that the GND wore bunny outfits - "They didn't EARN those bunny ears!"  She's a detractor but still suffers from loyalty to Hef/the brand.  I just see so much confusion in these women - here you have Hef, out to change society's views on sexuality (so that pretty girls will have sex with him and his friends and make him a lot of money); they seem to be coming from small towns/needing money and thinking this is their short-cut ticket to a world of modeling fame.  Fifteen thousand dollars! But of course in the 70s Clairol Herbal Essence wanted actual girl next door types, not ones who had shown their boobs (and pubes) in nudie mags.  So maybe they were making more money than their high school girlfriends, and getting invited to "glamorous parties" at the mansion, but that's pretty much it.  Along with all of the sexual harrassment/assault that went along with it.  The world has changed since then, but it did not change overnight just because Hef willed it.

lol so silly! Most people don't even know the difference between Bunnies and Playmates and all of that. Before Girls Next Door, I considered them and the girlfriends all Playboy girls. 🤷‍♀️

I agree with you. I do feel bad for PJ though. I get if some women had positive experiences with Playboy. They have their right to feel good about their experience, but they can only speak for themselves. They shouldn't harass women who were traumatized.

I feel bad for the Playmates who wound up on porn sites. I mean, I get that posing for Playboy isn't the equivalent of Vogue, but there is still a difference. When I got into GND, I became interested in Playmates. Some of them are the prettiest women I've ever seen, and I loved to look at them for hair and makeup inspiration. They're not the most googable though, if you don't want to deal with porn sites and pop-ups. I'm not offended if I see boobs, but I don't want to see explicit stuff.

I did check out Playboy on reddit. While the new people running the company may not have some of Hef's problematic ways, the photography is not as tasteful.

I can see that, but I do think there's a difference between feeling comfortable posing nude for a magazine and then winding up on very graphic sites many years later. Many of the women posed decades before the Internet too.

I personally discourage doing anything considered "adult." A friend of mine thought about doing an OnlyFans and putting up stuff that's sexy but not nude. I think that could still haunt you.

Are you saying if you pose, you pose? I'm not clear what you're questioning tbh.

That's what the women in the documentary said, wasn't it? Something about being a porn star against their will. I'm not sure how bad it is because I haven't done a deep dive. I just know if you google Playmates, you can get results much more explicit than you'd expect (at least I'd expect). In the documentary they also said other things about being mislead into taking video footage they were uncomfortable with. Sondra said something about thinking video of her would be kept private or blurred but it wasn't. Hell, while I don't think Hef did "revenge porn," according to Holly, one messed up thing that happened is on GND, the girls didn't realize they wouldn't be blurred out for DVD. Not sure who was responsible for that. I'm not saying it's a great idea to take off your clothes in front of a camera. I don't even have stuff like that on my own phone. But I think we all have different boundaries. Maybe you're okay with a still shot of you, but you don't want to be seen walking around with nothing on.

It reminds me of Pamela Anderson. Sure she posed for Playboy and all that, but she was still a victim with her sex tape.

Understood. I just was surprised to see him. But then, I usually look to see who is in the background of some of the early videos that they are using. I know he was originally based in Hollywood before moving to the East Coast so would have gone to events where his peers were congregating. (A little off topic but he had "the Trumpsta" on his show multiple times and acted as if they socialized. I wonder if he was ever invited to the White House when he was still alive."

Thanks for the article. It just goes to show you that each girl had a different experience being a bunny. Some good, some not. It was like any other job, except theirs was about being sexy.

The article also mentions Holly as being the first to tell her negative experience. What a surprise...NOT! Holly's biggest issue is that Hef never had any intention of marrying her, and after 5 years she finally realized the truth and didn't like it one bit. Too bad bitch. Your choice.

I agree re: comfort levels of nudity. But here's what these women should have done, "READ your contract carefully".  Hef is no dummy, and I'm sure he had a clause releasing all photos to his possession with the right to do as he pleased with said photos.

I'm not sure it's true that disease or other trouble from implants is rare. We hear about women in entertainment taking them out for health reasons. My close friend chose not to get implants after her mastectomy because she distrusts the long-term implications for health.

Late last year the FDA updated its guidelines for implants and cites health data:
