David Hasselhoff was the star. She was the eye candy who got bigger than the show and got a lot of air time because of that but as shown in the episode it was mostly for eye candy scenes only.  She wasn't allowed a lot of dialogue from what I recall or at least not emotional stuff that showed any acting ability.

I remember seeing music montages of her coming out of the water or being in the pool. It was ridiculous. It was essentially a music video of just close-ups of Pam Anderson’s body. They did them quite frequently IIRC.

When the show was produced for syndication, they had to do it on stricter budget than when it was on NBC. One of the ways to do that was music montages, because it meant the scripts were shorter and they could shoot faster without dialogue.

This is one of the shows you know is bad but you have to keep watching because you want to see how much worse it can get. That being said it is an enjoyable kind of bad.  I had to laugh when one of the porn guys said nobody makes money from a celeb sex tape.

I like the contrast between how the Internet can be very positive like getting an old part for the toilet vs. how it can be very negative invading people’s privacy. Amazing to think there was a time when porn wasn’t all over the Internet.

I tried to find information about Pam’s other sex tape with Bret Michaels by googling. I didn’t want to watch it—just read about the history. Hard to do a search that doesn’t give you porn sites as the top results.

Wi Fi changed that.  I don't think I ever tried to watch a movie when I had dial up.  it was so slow and there was always the chance someone would call and knock you offline.

Watched the first episode. They made Tommy way more of a brute than he actually is. I'm not saying he didn't do all of those high jinks with his house (the writers clearly watched his MTV Cribs episode) BUT he can actually hold a conversation and isn't as dim as presented.

Tommy's main flaw is his addiction problems - I can completely see him doing all the things depicted when on drugs or alcohol. I just don't think they did a good job painting a three dimensional depiction of him - no one is just one way.

Also, and this is just my opinion. Regardless of your thoughts on Tommy overall, in the specific instance where he held the shotgun on Rand and told him to get the fuck out he was completely justified.  A guy who you have caught ogling your wife, is a known porn star and degenerate and has been fired in a bad way, breaks into your house claiming it is to get tools?  I would have pulled on him too and told him to call the cops to get his tools back.

I watched the fourth episode and I think it's been the best one so far. The first three were introducing the audience to all the players and setting up what happened.  This episode we are starting to see the fallout from the tape being stolen.

I do feel bad for Pamela.

Spoiler

I knew she had a miscarriage before she had her two kids but I didn't know it was while this was happening.

And how humiliating that the people you work with are watching your sex tape and nobody had the decency to tell you?

Miltie is about to take all of the money from the sale of the tape and disappear, isn't he? It would serve Rand right (not that Miltie is any better than Rand).

I knew paparazzi were at the height of invasiveness in the 90s, but taking pictures of a clearly distraught Pam in front of the hospital is something else.

How humiliating is it to have coworkers watch a private video of you while at work. I don't know if Pam had enough clout to get them fired, but I hope she at least tried.

ETA: I thought it was interesting that Tommy named Brett Michaels first in the list of people with whom he had beef. Pamela dated Brett before she met Tommy, and also made a sex tape with him. That tape leaked some time after her tape with Tommy, but didn't get nearly as much media attention.

Why would anyone take the risk of making a sex tape?  It's not exactly something you pop in the VCR to watch when you have company.

I know it wasn't meant to be funny because they were clearly distraught but I did get a kick out of Pam and Tommy going incognito to the library to use the computer.

That was terrible, I felt so bad for her.

I laughed at Tommy's list of names and wondered what beef he had with John Stamos.

The tone reminds me a lot of the director's previous film I, Tonya, which I also surprisingly loved. This is good so far, in a very campy kind of good way.

Sebastian Stan and Lily James are very very good.  I still can't believe it's sweet Rose from Downton Abbey (and Cinderella!)

OMG! I did not know that was Rose! Unrecognizable! She looks terrible here.

I made it through two episodes and stopped.

I can't get past vain executive producer Seth Rogen writing himself into so much of the story - half an episode up front would have sufficed, followed by brief updates in following episodes to track his story.

I REALLY can't get past slimy EPs Rogen and Franco exploiting Pam - who objects - by artificially creating a Pam clone and then repeatedly showing her naked and having sex. She's essentially portrayed as an animated sex doll. And not very smart either - all the squeaks and simpering and baby doll voice and batting the eyes. The second episode is essentially a soft core porn tape.

Loathsome.

Well, if the shoe fits…she made millions being a sex object. If she’s so smart, she knew what she was doing. No sympathy

I restarted Hulu specifically for this show, and it’s quite good. I became a Mötley Crüe fan around the Dr. Feelgood era and discovered Pam and Playboy due to them so this is totally in my wheelhouse. I wasn’t really into Baywatch after it left NBC, but I watched VIP every week. It’s weird to see “history” from your high school years.

I think Rand’s background and story is pertinent because the tape really did contribute to the mainstreaming and shift to “big business” of the adult industry and its aesthetic in general. His need for “karma” ended up creating a huge cultural shift.
Watched ep 4 last night- I had no idea “that” Anthony Pellicano was involved.
Lily James is doing great work as Pam, I understood her feeling violated and her view that her reputation would suffer greater harm than Tommy’s, but also Tommy wasn’t exactly “wrong” that the public had already seen her nude and at that time would have a certain perception of her.

I thought this was taking place in 1997 instead of 1995.

He's not wrong but Pam chose to pose for Playboy. She did not consent for people to see her sex tape.  But I'm not surprised Tommy didn't understand the difference.

This episode finally endeared Tommy to me and I could see how Pam fell for him and why they worked together. I actually thought they were quite sweet and if I didn’t know Tommy’s history and what eventually happens to them I’d have been rooting for them to work it out.

For me there's a huge difference between posing for Playboy and having the entire world watch you have sex with your husband. It's not even in the same ballpark.

Of course in the age of the cloud we all know that none of our pictures and videos are 100% secure, but Pam had no way of knowing that when she let Tommy (and Brett before him) tape their sexual encounters. I don't think her feelings about this situation should be dismissed just because she had chosen to make a living as a "sex symbol."

He's a really good actor but in real life he seems like a pretty classy, smart, put-together guy. This is a very good thing generally, but means he's lacking that slimy car-crash quality that Lee had, where you shouldn't look but can't help yourself. Not sure I'm explaining it very well, but basically he doesn't feel dangerous enough to me, more silly.

He also looks a little too… healthy to be Tommy Lee in my opinion. Lee was rock star fueled by drugs and alcohol and adoration rather than a healthy diet and regular work outs, you know? And Stan doesn’t have that wolffish angularity to his face.

I agree about Sebastian. He looks shorter and a little heavier than Tommy Lee and lacking in sex appeal.

I remember hearing about the tape but didn’t realize the guy broke into their house. Yikes.

Just read this article about all the makeup and prosthetics it took to turn Lily James into Pamela Anderson. I didn’t realize she was wearing a fake forehead and chest piece! They did a good job.

https://stylecaster.com/beauty/pam-and-tommy-lily-james/

This article says Pam Anderson is upset about the series.

https://www.etonline.com/pamela-anderson-finds-pam-tommy-series-very-painful-source-says-178144

Sebastian is just too normal bodies and pug-faced to be playing Tommy.

It is like he is doing a bad Tommy Lee Cosplay. The guy was scum but there was a reason that the most beautiful women in Hollywood were attracted to him.

I think Lily is nailing it.

Has anyone else read Bobbie Brown’s book “Dirty Rocker Boys”? Apparently she was dating Tommy at the time he met and married Pam, and had a lot to say about the whole situation.

Also, I totally thought all this was taking place in 1997 instead of 1995 because I associate Tommy’s stomach tatt with “Nu-metal Tommy” and Methods of Mayhem didn’t come out until 1999.

I read it.

Bobbie and Pamela seemed to have been rivals back in the day. I thought both were beautiful...like Barbie dolls come to life.

Supposedly, Bobbie was crushed by the engagement.

I am on Episode 3 and am pleasantly surprised by Tommy preparing that delicious-looking Greek meal. It is so nice to see him doing something besides drumming, drinking, and fucking.

Who is Bobbie Brown? I recognize the name but can’t place her. I’m too lazy to search. Is she the makeup person?

One thing they did really well is the red Baywatch swimsuit. They got the tailored fit just right. I wish they showed more of Pam on the series including someone playing David Hasselhoff, but I guess that would get them off track from the main storyline about the stolen tape.

I think Seth Rogen and Nick Offerman are both doing a great job in the supporting roles as the slimy opportunists. Still not convinced Sebastian Stan was the right choice for Tommy Lee, but I’m coming up short on who would’ve a been better choice. I wasn’t really a Motley Crue fan but do remember how popular they were for a time. I remember Tommy as taller, thinner, more sculpted in the face and generally better-looking and with some raw sex appeal, although he wasn’t my type.

This episode highlighted the affection between Tom and Pam instead of just the sex. Tommy was tender and sweet to her when she was having the miscarriage. I understand why he didn’t feel as violated by the tape getting out, but I agree with Pam. It’s much worse for a woman. There’s a double standard. It doesn’t matter that she posed nude. That was a professional shoot that was technical and planned, not the incredibly intimate and personal act of her having sex with her husband. I can’t begin to imagine how humiliating it must have been for her to walk up and see her coworkers watching that tape.

She’s the other major blonde bombshell of the early 90s hair band world, best known for starring in Warrant’s “Cherry Pie” video and marrying Jani Lane. She started out representing Louisiana in Miss Teen USA and was a Star Search spokesmodel.  She was on an “Ex-Wives of Rock” reality show about 10 years ago and would show up on VH1 quite a bit when they did those “I Love the 80s/90s” shows. She had a podcast recently.

I was surprised Tommy didn’t mention her when he name-checked Carmen Electra and Jenna Jameson in his episode 2 list of women Pam outshined.

She made the tape with Brett *before* she made the one with Tommy, so after the latter was made public, there was not much she could have done about the former.

I do think that Tommy was the love of her life but that could just be due to media perception. She admitted later they kept hooking up for years after they separated and divorced.  Kinda puts the whole Kid Rock and Tommy Lee fight in more perspective as it likely was not just about some new guy with your ex, but an ex you had been secretly still sleeping with off and on for years.  They even tried to reconcile after she broke up with Kid Rock.

Of course she also has a long history of going back to exes so I think she just falls in love easily (she has a lot of trauma in her past which can lead to this type of stuff), overlooks bad behaviors in men until she can no longer, breaks up, then misses the good times with that person and conveniently ignores the bad times for a while. So she gets back with them until the bad behavior comes back.

Rinse repeat.  Pam loves herself a bad boy and the excitement that goes along with it until that bad boy directs their badness at her too much and she runs away. Only to go back later.

UO, but I have no sympathy for Pam either. She wasn't exactly the 'sweet thing' she portrays...and also had a bad temper. Regardless of what was going on in her life, she had no right to take a tire iron (or whatever it was) and smash out someone's windshield.

I think Stamos and Pam were engaged at one point?  Tommy was very jealous of anyone she dated, or even looked at cross-eyed.

if I was mid miscarriage and being stalked by paparazzi on the same week my sex tape had been released against my will.. I’m not sure I would be able to keep my temper in check. Also not sure I’d have smashed a windshield either but given the paparazzi had no respect for her privacy after she exits the hospital looking devastated I don’t think she owes them respect for their property.

One thing that I do not understand is that the creators were insistent that they are not exploiting Pamela but it does feel like they are still exploiting her.

Did Seth Rogan accidentally watch one of Rand's pornos and fall in love with the guy?

The show really should be called Rand instead of Pam and Tommy.

I am really not getting any new insight into either Pam or Tommy. In fact, they are being painted as pretty vapid/stupid.

However, Rand is getting such a sympathetic edit as an "everyman" that deserved better.

It is bizarre.

Yes. I immediately thought of the Britney Spears umbrella incident.

I remember the early photos of Pam, before she got the breast implants. She was at a sports event and captured on the big screen. She was so pretty. I don’t think she needed the bleached hair, implants or the ultra thin eyebrows, but I understand these things made her stand out more. I never liked pencil eyebrows. Yikes! They just don’t look good to me.

I think she looked best on her first Playboy cover, before she changed her look. I had a boyfriend that loved her. He saved all her photos and I remember looking at them with him. I know that sounds weird, but I was young.

My memory could be telling me lies, but I have a distinct memory of her having the implants removed and trying to tone down the image a bit in the aftermath of all the endless public drama, and she looked amazing.

And then she got them put back in. Which is entirely her prerogative, of course, I just remember feeling a little sad!

The whole Rand and Miltie story is cracking me up. I don't remember what ultimately happened but I hope the show gives at least gives them some comeuppance. I feel like the show's gearing up for it by depicting them as so repulsive and hypocritical (I was dying at Rand's fury at how unethical it was to bootleg his stolen tape).

I feel like a lot of people who mostly depend on their looks for a living are pretty insecure.

I wish like Marilyn Monroe, Pam had gotten some acting training to be a better comedic actress.

However, Pam never had the talent or tragedy (thank God) of Marilyn.

I think Tommy might actually be the most accomplished and famous of all her husbands.

I think Pam lost any naivete she might have had pretty quickly.  I don't think Marilyn ever did. She was too trusting. And also as far as we know Pam hasn't had any substance abuse problems.

But they both had horrible track records with men.  Both always looking for love.
