Best wishes, Gram.  I know I'll be nervous when my time comes (probably 2 years or less?)  My friend has had it and her outcome was positive.  Good thoughts coming your way, and do update us.  🙂

Thanks! Will update as soon as I can. Can't wait for it to be over. Right eye scheduled for the 19th, but may put it off a month. Depends on how tomorrow goes.

5113 steps yesterday.

I'm home, it went well. Great drugs! LOL So far no pain. Gauze and clear shield over eye, gauze comes off at 6PM then just shield...and all the drops.

Great drugs can make it tolerable. So glad it went well!

I have a procedure tomorrow I’m getting sedation for (spinal injections). I’ve had torturous experiences from military doctors, so it’s automatic sedation for me because I freak out every time now.

That’s great! Sorry it’s not gone, though.

Hope over time it will get better.

I was told my mother's vision should be clear by two weeks.

My dr never said anything like that but it is good to know!! Makes me even more sure to wait until next month for the other eye.

Gramto6.

I don't know if you ever said that you wear glasses or not.  Do you?  If so, did they tell you if you will be able to no longer wear them once you get the second eye done?  I would love it if I could do away with my glasses.

I have worn glasses for many years. The Opthamologist said I will still have to wear the glasses even after both eyes are done. Doesn't really bother me that much.

4,118 steps yesterday.

My prescription remained the same for both eyes after.  Treated myself to new glasses anyhow, felt I deserved them.  I need spare pair as I am near-sighted and take them off to read, frequently leave them in stores.  Tried bifocals but was constantly tripping.

I was very near- sighted. The surgery corrected that. I have astigmatism  in one eye so I need a very light prescription that I used sometimes to read.

I think you will be quite happy how you feel after the knee surgery.   My mom was 78 when she had hers done a few years ago and all that you describe fit how she was for 5 years putting it off.  At almost 82 she is back to walking outside 2 miles most days.   She also walks 5k steps a day inside her house.

I was nearly 80 when I had my knee replacement done.  In consult with the anesthesiologist just before the surgery, he expressed concerns about putting me right out as I have chronic bronchitis.

I was aware that under a local anesthetic I would be able to hear and smell what was going on; I successfully pleaded my case, based on the premise that I would become nauseous if exposed to what was happening.  Came through with flying colors, home 3 days after surgery, qualified for in-home physiotherapy and have never looked back.  When I think of the agony I suffered for a few years prior, I regret not doing it sooner.

Thanks for the encouragement @MaddyMaeboxerbabe and @Sandy W. I have had bum knees for so long, all the running and gymnastics and hiking didn't help. I had been able to power through most of the pain but after the falls this winter it is so much worse.  I know I have to address the knee sooner than later, I just want to get my eyes done/healed first.

Geeze it is he11 getting old!!

How’s your eye @Gramto6 ?

My eye seems to be doing well. 5 more days of drops and then done. Now the issue is the old rx of my glasses. When I had my post op appointment the dr showed me what my vision would be with my new prescription and it was amazingly clear! He said new glasses won't need to be as strong as these are. Just need to get through second surgery and heal and all will be good with the eyes.

Thanks for asking.
