Getting to Genoa You All Over Again: Y&R Daily Chat

Not really. The Real Housewives shows are fairly cookie-cutter, thanks to the proven formula. BTG will have some specific cultural and historical references, right down to the set decoration, character names, and the location.

I don't think BTG intended to appeal to the type of audience Y&R has. In fact, I'd surmise a key part of Y&R's audience is offended by the very concept of a predominantly Black daytime soap.

Well, The Real Housewives are all about yelling, screaming, hitting & throwing things at each other & women generally acting like toddlers.  That’s what I saw in the commercials — the little I paid attention to ‘em.  The show might be different, but the commercials def present a Real Housewives vibe.

Other than Phyllis, nobody on Y&R behaves like the Real Housewives.  Will Y&R viewers be attracted by those commercials or turned off?  Idk, but they sure turned me off.

Btw, was Vic not as concerned about Summer being involved with Kyle cuz she’s “strong & fierce” or cuz she’s Phyllis’ daughter?  Hmmm.

You know what? I'd have an issue, a BIG ISSUE, with my grandparents being okay with their new granddaughter fucking my ex. Yeah, I'd have alot of issues with that right there. IMO, that family ought to be telling Claire that no, it is NOT okay to sleep with Summer's ex husband, and no, it is not okay to expect everyone to be good with that. There are plenty of other off screen men she can go after. These people.

Um isn't Summer is/was sleeping with her aunt's exhubby. Didn't she also sleep with her mom's current obsession.

And I know it has been years but neither Nick or Victor still don't know about Billy and Summer?

"I'll decide when the Abbotts have suffered enough!" Yeah, that sounded like the ravings of a lunatic. Looking at you, Victor. Come at me.

There's nothing charming left about Victor, not that I've seen, in a long time.  His family continue to show reverence towards this petulant, unpleasant, unkind man, mostly because his family fear his vindictiveness and even more likely, fear he'll turn off the money spigot.  But none that excuses Michael putting up with the disrespect Victor shows him.  He surely doesn't need the money but seems to need Victor treating him like crap.  It's tedious to watch.

I might be sitting at a table for one, but I really enjoyed the teasing Diane and Kyle put Jack through, along with his good-natured response to it.  There was a lot of affection and lightness in those scenes which I much appreciated.

As for Beyond the Gates, I haven't seen any commercials for it but I have been watching the pre-launch segments on the show, done, I think by Entertainment Tonight and available to watch on Paramount Plus.  I like what I see so far.  And I'd watch Tamara Tunie and Clifton Davis read their grocery lists!

It sure looks like the network has put some money into the show.  The segment I watched today said they have 27 different sets.  I'm definitely going to give it a shot.

Do the show runners know that Victor comes off as a straight up psychopath? Stop trying to gild the cow flop with the frequent lie that he took a bullet for his family. We all saw what happened. The Lord of the Underworld will decide when the Abbotts have suffered enough? Is that so? Maybe Traci should decide that and repossess her daughter’s property.

Remember, like, when Michael had dignity and self-respect? Pepperidge Farm remembers. He immediately gets dressed down by Victor upon entering the raunch, but still keeps his ass seated and decides to be complicit in the next legally dubious round of bullshit. That’s the well-earned reward for being so loyal to one narcissist that you agree to risk being murdered by another one. As if Michael couldn’t easily ply his trade elsewhere instead of toiling in Satan’s suck factory.

Summer was certainly looking at Kyle like he was a tasty morsel as he stood at the bar. Somebody was starving for tall glass of newly expired milk, amirite? Wonder if Kyle will catch a clue that Victor is up to something, or will the clue get stuck in his pompadour as it sails over his head? See, Claire, a leopard can’t change its spots. But you could have and should have.

Daniel and Summer could have benefited from a clue that not everyone uses their mother as shorthand for petty, jealous and obsessive. Good luck at your new job, Daniel, and keep that sense of humor intact for when Phyllis torches the whole thing trying to get in Billy’s pants.

This whole Victor going after the Abbotts is getting beyond ridiculous.  I just can’t tolerate this any longer.  What did Jack ever do to him to warrant this insanity?  All Jack has ever done is care for Nikki.  And doesn’t Vic understand that it takes two to divorce?  Summer is one screw short of a slut, and she had as much to do with her failed marriage as Kyle.

So, now Vic has turned clairvoyant and sees into the future, all knowing what will happen with Kyle’s relationship with Claire?  I think Vic needs to take a walk by Rex Rugs where he’ll be sideswiped by Phyllis.

Nikki, the oily look is dead.  Your hair looks like crap.  Stop with the Brylcream where a little dab won’t do ya.

Not a fan of Claire's dress with its giant polka dots. I thought it was too loud of a print for her and she didn't look thrilled to be wearing it.

I like the dress, not necessarily for Claire, but it's the most adult she's been styled in a long time. Ever since the "Claire is Eve" reveal, she's been styled like she just graduated from high school.

Victor needs a hobby. Watching him go after "those dahmned Ahbbotts" for the 1837th time cannot be the best the writers could come up with.

Summer❄️x6😾 has picked up a few of Manic Phyllis🕷️’s mannerisms. Especially in trying to snoop, head jerks, and hand gestures as she talks to Daniel.  The only difference is that Summer❄️X6😾’s hands are much smaller than her mom’s hands.

I know I’m beating a dead horse but can the monkeys with a keyboard make a little sense in their writing?  Michael and Lauren needed a reservation to eat at the GCAC but Summer❄️x6 😾 and Daniel didn’t?  Jack and Diane had a room at the GCAC but they came to Society to eat.  Did they get turned away also?

Whee, I loved how Daniel was telling Summer about herself and wouldn't let up. He's a good big brother.

Lauren's dress. Oy. What was that print, tiger stripes on PCP?

I also had to appreciate how Kyle wasn't backing down from Victor's verbal onslaught. Meanwhile, Victor seems to have gotten stuck in neutral, repeating his petty taunts to Kyle over and over and over.

Right there with you, Lauren. I too was amazed to learn Michael hadn't told you what happened when Ian shot Victor. Michael acting more loyal to his boss than to his wife is not a good look AFAIC.

Geez, Daniel, maybe you could put a GPS tracker on Phyllis' phone (like the one you have on Lucy's). Or, you could accept that Phyllis is a grown@$$ woman who doesn't need to share her every movement with her grown@$$ kids. (Grrr, got me out here defending Red of all people. 😡)

Sigh, Diane and Jack, gloating in Victor's face about Glissade is 100% not the way you want to go. Just sayin'.

But stop acting brand new, Lauren. You knew Michael was ethically-, legally-, and morally-challenged when you married him.

Summer! How are you still trying to be wishy-washy about Chance? Is something wrong with your eyes? Or your cooch? Giiiirrrrllll.

Aw, Victor. It looks so sad in your endlessly bitter and vengeful world.

And again, I don't think the producers are aiming at the average Y&R viewers with those ads. They probably figure the people put off by the commercials were unlikely to watch the show anyway.

Yeah, and she should do it like the heart sacrifice ceremony in the movie Apocalypto. (The scene is on YouTube and it's not for weak stomachs.)

yep/  I remember seeing a way back episode wherein Michael came across as a major sleezebag.

I have to laugh at Jack's decorating anxiety--Mr. Cookie gets antsy when I move the garbage can from one side of the room to the other and he almost passed out when I mentioned removing the wallpaper and painting.

I realize Lauren had facial work, but I am not distracted by it the way I am with Sharon.  Sharon is tough to look at with the bug eyes and lack of facial movement.  Lauren, at least can move her face , sort of.

Yeah Diane, rose scented powder is just what we women want to put on our faces--mine would get blotchy, my eyes would water and my nose will run. Fabulous idea--70 years too late.

1. After today's episode, I'm wondering if the show is setting us up for Victor becoming a recurring character.

2. It was in the 79th episode of the season, which aired on 1/29, where Ian Ward opened his eyes in the ambulance after being shot by Victor, and he has yet to reappear - just out of curiosity, did I just imagine Ian opening his eyes, or did the writers forget about him - also, if that was 21 days ago in Earth time, how long ago was it in Y&R time?

OMG i forgot about that line! When she said it, all I could think was ‘AYFKM?’ No one, and I mean NO ONE wants to wear rose-scented anything anymore! And if I walked past a woman wearing it, I’d be in allergy hell instantly. I do kind of like the idea of a compact for both lipstick and powder (for those who wear it) but definitely not rose scented

I'm not Black. I'm looking forward to BTG mainly because of Michele Val Jean. I like soaps but the writing on the existing shows is so crappy most of the time and the main reason I go from show to show - I watch until I can't take it anymore. Anyway, it looks like there are quite a few white characters, including soap vets Jon Lindstrom and Cady McClain. JL said in a clip that it was a different pov, being a minority character.  (But hey, that's what actors of color deal with, fair is fair.)

If it ends up being a Housewives or Dynasty kind of show after it settles in, it might be a little disappointing. I guess we'll see.

Well, ScoobieDoobs, I have to disagree with the "strong & fierce" part, maybe because I could never see the character, as played by AL, as heading a big deal international fashion company - she's much too shrill - now HK as Summer was "strong & fierce" and I could see her heading a big deal international fashion company.

As I remember, Billy was PO'd with Phyllis for her one-night stand with Nick, so, to get back at Phyllis and because he knew Summer had kind of a crush on him, he snookered her into bed and then skedaddled off to Myanmar (formerly Burma) in the morning because he thought that would be a good place to find himself.

Really?  Hmmm.  It's the opposite for me.  All I could ever see Hunter King heading would have been an Afrin Nasal Spray commercial or a Looney Toons bio on the life and times of Daisy Duck.

The Road Not Taken and all that, you know......

Remember that Summer also had a bet with Kyle that she could get Billy into bed?  The only ones who got snookered were we unfortunate viewers who had to see that train wreck.

Not Super Girl's finest hour, or Billy's finest three minutes.

Is Show gearing up to make Vic recurring?  I get the opposite vibe.  He still seems front & center, particularly with this new bit of him trying some corporate espionage with Jabot.  The prob for me is the justification for his continuing the Abbott feud seems so weak.  More than that, it seems foolish, deluded & makes Vic look like a befuddled old man.  Is this what the writers are going for?  Really?

When he was going on to Mikey about 'that Jordan woman" & how he should've been able to keep her locked up, he sounded like a Dementia patient.  Cuz none of that rant made any sense.  Unless they're heading in that direction with this character, but I doubt it . . .

Ah, Lauren loves her tiger stripes, eh?  But it wasn't one of usual one-shoulder cave-lady get-ups, so she is trying to be a tiny bit diff.  I kinda like the Lauren/Mikey scenes & Tracey is an OK actress, in spite of not being able to make expressions of any kind.

Uh yeah, we are in Bizarro World GC if Summer (or anyone) would prefer Pomp to Chance.  Btw, why does Daniel look like such a slob?  Wardrobe peeps, what's with this?  And some crazy stylist put poor Nikki thru a hair-goop wind-tunnel -- and the result was today's troll-doll look.  Eek, NO!

The fact that he went three minutes would make it Billy’s finest hour, so to speak.

Summer sort of has Chance, but you have to understand that she sees Claire and Kyle sharing that smoking hot sibling chemistry while also dating and… well, it makes her yearn for how things used to be with Kyle back in the day.

If I may correct Victor, Summer’s marriage imploded because she chose being an accessory to her mother’s crimes over her husband. Poor Victor, all alone in his shadowy raunch, plotting revenge and unable to get his lackey on the phone. Imagine if he devoted his golden (platinum? titanium?) years to not being a dick. Maybe his raunch would be filled with light and love and all that Hallmark bullshit instead of dour faced visitors lining up to kiss the ring and GTFO.

Speaking of undeserved ass kissing, Michael’s at it again. He has no rhyme or reason for his loyalty to Victor and can’t explain it in any way that makes sense. I guess there’s the father figure thing, but Michael’s seen what Victor does to his own kids. If Michael hates the Jabot plan so much, he shouldn’t do it. Warn Jack. Sabotage it. It’s not like Victor won’t turn on him for some made up reason eventually.

Well, it has only been a couple of days since the shooting according to the TimewarpLine that the writers are using.  Very happy that Michael chose his wife over Viktor.  I would have reached through my tv and beat the stupid out of him with his phone if he'd answered it.

But, but, that's exactly what he is.  I stand by my recent suggestion that he should have a full Welcome to Medicare workup with emphasis on dementia and Alzheimers.  Maybe a brain scan, or two.  Then maybe the rest of the family that enables his shit could get their noggins examined, as well.

The make-up people aren't her friends, either.  It looks so harsh and with her hair slicked back makes her look older.  Maybe she should try some rose-scented powder.  That should soften things up.

So has something happened to The Red Beast?  Do we care?  Uh, no!  Do we care why she’s gone?  Uh, no!  Maybe Ian & Jordie broke outta the GC morgue & kidnapped her?  Eh, whatevs, as long as she stays gone, all is good.

Today was Amy day.  Meh.  And Show trying to make Lils & Damian as a couple happen.  Meh.  Lils looks a head taller than him.  And Audra as a sweetie pie continues to irritate me.  She’s pretending to be cold to Holden, but actually looks like she’s ready to jump in the sack with him & ditch Natey.

Oh and Chance was back.  Did he have any dialogue?  Who noticed?  Oh Summer, you really wanna to toss that away, to spend your time endlessly eye-f*cking Pomp?  Really?  Now I remember why we used to call ya Dumber.  Still applies to ya, hun!

Damian said he'd checked into who Lily Winters is, and he learned they don't share any DNA. Play ball!

Lol, Damian offered his hand for Lily to shake and she basically went, "Ew."

Look at Sally being all hip to the Paris fashion lingo. "Embroidery atelier"?Okay, writers, stop showing off. 🙄

TMW your boyfriend's ex's kids ruin the romantic mood via long distance. Sally, Phyllis and her family will bring a whole 'nother level of chaos. Get ready.

Overconfident much, Audra? You almost outed yourself to Nate about how well you actually know Holden. Nate's spidey senses have started tingling.

TMW your girlfriend sashays out to meet with her hot male friend and all you get is a peck on the cheek. Poor Nate.

I thought Damian's flirt game reeked of desperation. He probably needs to dial it down at least 10 notches with Lily.

Hey, it's Chance.

Oh of course Summer guilted GCPD employee Chance into finding out where Phyllis is. Summer, hon, you and Daniel are rich. Hire a private investigator to track your silly mommy.

Lily, AFAIC you need to mind your own business, which is not Damian and Amy's fraught relationship. You don't know Damian like that. Or Amy.

Amy agreed to let Nate send her medical records to his friend who's an oncology specialist. What are the odds those records will be faked or heavily edited? I'll take Sure Things for $500, Alex.

Damian must be down bad for Lily if a possible date with her was what finally compelled him to go see Amy. Hmm.

Did I mention that I think that a storyline that includes a man seducing his girlfriend's barely post-adolescent daughter to get back at her and then continues on like there's nothing reprehensible about an adult male doing something like that is, at the very least, questionable?

Actually, boes, I forgot all about that - but I still say that Billy exploited Summer's screwed up emotional make-up to further his own petty ends - and I still say that HK brought an edge to the character that would make her believable as someone ready to take on the challenge of running a big deal international fashion company, while AL's Summer seems much too fragile to be able to fight the battles that come with being the CEO of a big deal international fashion company.
